This place is fucking INSANE. First off, we were trying to find a place to get carne asada. We needed an ATM as well, so we saw this place has HUGE letters in the front saying ATM INSIDE. So before we walked in, a rat ran right past the open front door. A huge ass rat. It was carrying some type of green thing in it's mouth. We laughed and continued to walk in. My husband and I went in with our two babies just to ask for an ATM. Before my husband got the chance to ask the entire sentence, the guy behind the counter immediately said "NO" as if he was implying to "get lost". Totally interrupted the question as if he didn't want us in there or something. We went to go look at carne prices and I went to go pay for a drink I grabbed. It was ALREADY 5 dollars, then the guy behind the counter said "if your gonna buy something under 10 bucks, we're charging you 50¢ extra."....we were like what the hell!? How is that even legal?!?!? I said nevermind and put my drink away. As I walked past the isle, there was a bunch of green things spilt in a corner. Then realized that fuckin rat that ran past the front door earlier had the exact same green thing in his mouth!! So this place just has random rats running around inside apparently !?!? And they just keep the front fmdoor wide open! In conclusion, this place is fuckin gross, the guy there is Absolutely rude as shit, I couldn't believe the motherfucker said he was gonna charge us more for literally no reason! I'm very disappointed at the service I received at the market today. I've come and shopped here for years and never have I been treated so poorly. I came to buy beans. They were set on a table .. each category labeled. I bought bagged pinto beans that were simply labeled $1.99 I believed the store owner rang me up, (older male tanned skinned with very thin eyebrows, with an accent) told me the total was $12.92. I like to support small businesses and even for as expensive as they were. I paid. I did very kindly let the man know that his sign said $1.99 but didn't state it was per pound. The sign just said bagged Pinto Beans $1.99. As I walk away thinking everything was ok, he tells me... Manager: Miss! Would you like the beans for free? Me: huh? ... for free? Manager: yes.. would you like them for free Me: I'll take them for free... but you know what.. let me be fair, just give them to me at the adjusted price $1.99 a bag.. Manager: (attitude voice) tell me Miss how are you being fair to me if I give them to you for free? You know what I have enough problems I have to deal with, why don't you just leave Me: I wasn't trying to bring problems, I'm just letting you know your sign is incorrect. All of this because I let him know his sign was I correct. I let him know kindly, I honestly was expecting nothing. I asked for my money back, all in good form. No attitude, not rude.. but he told me all sales were final. Good luck to you in the future 5 Star market. I won't be supporting your small business anymore!! I have been visiting this market for close to 9 years. Until recently it struck me I haven't ever written a review for this wonderful market. The owners are always there and very nice, easy to talk to. They answer any questions you have. They carry so many Goya products!! I am so thankful 5 Star carries Goya discos- to make my yummy Cuban/ Puerto Rican style empanadillas. I can make the dough myself but super convenient to buy the already made ones! They also carry Gandules to make Arroz con Gandules. yummy yummy! The tacos and tamales from the back part of the store are yummy! Everything is served piping hot! Everything is fresh and always served with a smile by Gelacio. He has excellent customer service and always answers my questions. I am a frequent customer at this market. I can't speak highly enough about the employees. They are always friendly, hard working and provide excellent customer service. The shelves are always stocked and they offer a wide variety of meat, produce and of course alcohol! During the Covid-19 pandemic, they have gone above & beyond to make customers feel safe. After going to this market a few more times we learned some things that stopped us from coming back. 1- the fruit is not properly handled resulting in rotting fruit and bugs 2- their refrigeration is not up to par which made us nervous when it came to meat and dairy 3- they DRASTICALLY upcharge common sold items. I am talking a small Daisy brand sour cream being $7.00 vs $1.00 We stopped coming in and likely will not return. read more

On November 30th I called Five Star Market and asked how much a bottle of Goldschalger 750 mil was. I was told $29.99. I could have gone to a big box liquor store to purchase it for $27.99 but didn't. I was super busy that day and my friend said she would pick it up for me. Imagine my surprise when she told me it was $45.99! She called and told them she was charged wrong. They told her the 350 mil was $29.99 and that since it's liquor they could not take it back. I've been a regular here for five or six years now! I love the staff! The meat selection is good and the prices are great! They have all kinds of craft beer and ALL the everyday beer! Their liquor section is vast! They make delicious chips and guacamole, the ceveche is pretty good too. They're very accommodating, if they dont have it, they'll at least try to get it. I love this place so much. It is my go to market for everything I forgot at the store to cook for dinner, Anytime I need liquor, their beer selection may not be cheap but it is wide.
