Fix checks off what I want in a coffeeshop: good coffee and good ambiance. No eclectic music playing in the background, just ambient noise of chatter and machines. As it's much smaller and quieter than most other coffeeshops around town, the vibe is perfect for studying or catching up with a friend - I wouldn't bring the squad here to gossip, though. I rate this place low, despite reasonably good espresso. Parking is pretty much non- existent, which is a strong negative. But the real killer is the owners, non-U.S citizens, I might add, who are arrogant, unfriendly and uptight (they're British... what do u expect). For folks who appreciate good coffee with reasonably good parking and baristas and other employees who are friendly and have great attitudes, I highly recommend Blacksmith, right down the street, and Siphon, also just a few blocks away on Alabama. The coffee is decent but unfortunately I have to second (rather fourth or fifth at least) the rude staff complaint. Got very condescendingly scolded in front of everyone for plugging in my laptop with the wire crossing a walkway (had to since I had just gotten my order, my battery was almost dead and they only have outlets along the walls). The place was full but someone sitting against a wall begrudgingly agreed to switch tables with me.... then not 30 minutes later I see another customer with her wire across the path and the same employee who scolded me saw it and didn't tell her anything. Go to campesino's, siphon or mercantile, which are in the same area, if you want to be treated with respect. Passing through Houston on a roadtrip, needing some coffee. Couldn't pass up the opportunity to try a Zagat rated coffee shop. Did not disappoint. Delicious & smooth espresso, very calming atmosphere. Easy parking lot is a big plus. Owner was so friendly and really enjoyed talking with him about his coffee and local roasters. Such a great place to sit and read or study. Wifi is great, nice large tables, and the staff are friendly. I have had the honey lavender latte and the French press. Both were great. The French press is always so smooth and rich and they give you a heated mug with it. They also have a great pastry selection and other snacks. Fix Coffeebar has been a great addition to Montrose--they aren't knew and in fact recently celebrated their anniversary (1 yr?). I have been to this location several times and can say that their service and tasty goodness of the drinks are consistent. I am very pleased with the service and the few times that I have gone in the morning to get my coffee as 'take away', they have been speedy even when no one else was in the queue. Each time, the husband orders a flat white and I order a chai and to this day, the taste of my chai is consistently good and husband has said each time that the flat white does not disappoint here. Also want to point out that this is one of the few places, while in Montrose area, doesn't feel pretentious. Ordered pastries one day and they were just as good. If I had a dollar for every coffeeshop in Montrose, I could probably afford to buy a house here. You might be familiar with all of the neighbors, but Fix is relatively new as of August 2016. One thing that stood out to me was the decor and open concept of the locale. Prices are comparable to other local shops. The coffee is really good! I had an americano, and typically drink it black, so trust me, the beans they use are great. I really love their menus, which take the time to explain what each type of drink is in case you didn't know before. A couple more things that I fancy: $3 mimosas ($11 carafes), nitro poured coffee on tap, and a good selection of craft beer (all $5 each). I took one star off because this place was waaaaaaay too quite for me to work. My job requires me to call people when working on my laptop/iPad, and I simply felt bad ruining everyone's silence. I don't know where to start with this one. I never prioritized service (though as long as the food/drink is good, I'll like it!) until I experienced the awful service here. I had brought in a tumbler of my own with a few sips of coffee left over inside it. I bring tumblers everywhere I go because I always get drip coffee and they're able to fill my tumbler so it stays hot the whole time I'm there. I had been there less than five minutes when the owner (older, British man) comes over and loudly remarks how rude it is for me to bring outside drink to his establishment. I told him what was up and that I intended on buying drip coffee to fill my tumbler. He just stared back at me and kept saying "how rude, how rude," at which point I was like.. "would you like me to hide my tumbler?" And he said "yes." I felt extremely alienated and "called out" in front of other customers. I was going to leave at that point, but the atmosphere of everyone studying, including other people from my medical school class that I knew kept me there. After receiving several looks from him, I decided to go up to the counter get coffee to make the rude glances stop. He made no remarks and didn't really smile but brought out my coffee. He left shortly after I ordered, and the feeling of alienation was gone as the other younger lady working at the counter was extremely nice and positive. Overall: Would maybe return to try the honey lavender lattes and other menu items people speak so well about. The atmosphere was nice for studying, but there are like two plugs in the whole place, and the music got extremely loud at one point and stayed that way. Yet another coffee shop has joined the Montrose squad! The owners are very kind, and the menu even includes Aeropress-brewed coffee and house-made syrups as well. I had a mocha with coconut milk (no soy milk here, only almond + coconut), and the flavor, although rich, emphasized a savory butteriness that I did not personally prefer. The 20% off on the first visit coupon (when you check in!) is absolutely worth it though. The mocha with nondairy milk would have been 5.25 otherwise. So a bit pricey. Vibes are woodsy and chestnut, with not a lot of outlets available and already this place is getting packed. The parking situation involves only a couple of spots, so depending on the time of day (and rising popularity) there might be a need to street park nearby. read more

Been coming here since they opened when we used to live in midtown and still come back after moving out of the area over 2 years ago. Their flavored iced lattes are the perfect balance of sweet and a rich espresso flavor. Most importantly, they are CONSISTENT, no matter who the barista is. They are always so pleasant too. Only place I could find oat milk. I can't drink milk so I was going to the usual coconut milk in my latte but this place had an oat milk flown in from another country according to them. My third visit to Fix Coffeebar. Fantastic chemex pour overs. High quality beans. Wish I was staying closer to fix - but worth the drive.

In search of a new coffee shop venue near my house, my friend and I decided to give Fix a try. Admittedly, while parking I initially had reservations that the shop would be a bit too crowded (size) for my liking, but I was pleasantly surprised when we entered and saw two long 8' tables adorned with benches. At first gaze, there were a handful of individuals lining the walls at the individual tables either reading the daily paper or browsing online, while one of the large tables had a group of students studying. The atmosphere itself was a nice change from the plentiful "trendy" coffee shops which adorn the Montrose area. (Side note: great natural lighting from the front windows) I ordered a cold brew coffee, and my friend got a ginger tumeric hot tea. My cold brew was nice and strong, just to my liking. My friend is sick, so not entirely sure how her drink of choice was, but she sipped away at it while studying without any qualms--though she noted that a dash of honey would be nice. Unfortunately, I didn't see many pastries in the display (there was only one left!) so I didn't get a chance to try that though I was hoping to grab a croissant when I walked in the shop. Hopefully next time, I'll be in a bit earlier to view their selection. Definitely will be returning should I be in the area. Edit: Oh! The one star is solely for whoever the barista was working today 1/30/18 at around 12:30pm. I'm from out of state and visiting Houston for a quick trip. Whenever I travel I love visiting coffee shops and wanted to try out the honey lavender latte I saw reviews on. This place has great reviews so I thought I would come check it out. Walked in with my boyfriend and immediately got the vibe the chick was irritated that we came in. Looks like she didn't want to work. I'm sorry, if you don't want to work then go somewhere else instead of giving off negative energy and bad attitude to everyone else. To customers, paying money for this place to stay open and for you to get your hourly minimum wage. I'm sorry if that comes off rude but that's EXACTLY the kind of attitude presented to me when I came for my visit. She took my order, never asked how I was doing. No suggestions made. Blank face. Hood on (very professional). Like I was talking to a robot pretty much. I could just sense her negativity. Made me feel super uncomfortable. Never said thank you. Nothing. She did bring my latte to my seat. So that was nice I guess. And the latte wasn't bad. But just being there left a bad taste in my mouth. My experience at coffee shops are usually pretty pleasant. Great study spot for those who can only take a mild level of noise before the noise canceling headphones come on. As a student who studies 20-40 hours a week, I'm always looking for places with: 1. comfortable seating with decent table sizes 2. low noise level 3. great drinks 4. fast wifi 5. comfortable room temperature Fix comes with all of these perks as well as having the sweetest owners. My only gripe is that the parking situation could be better. The coffee shop is in a small shopping center with few parking spots so bike/skate/walk/uber if you can. I was hesitant to review this place because, as a new coffee shop, it is still fairly quiet and peaceful -- perfect for those with exams coming up, but great places like these should be shared! read more

It is a nice place to study. There are a couple outlets on either side of the restaurant but there weren't any in the middle. The tables are a bit low so if you are picky about the height of your table it may be a problem for you. There is music but it isn't very loud so you can hold a conversation or play your own music without having to blast it. I got the chai latte which was light and the spices were a nice blend which gave it a good kick. The barista was very nice and talked with a customer about how they made their coffee and even gave them samples of a different brew so they could tell the difference between the different preparations. read more

Great place to study. Coffee is dependent on who is the barista that day. I use to come here a lot to study but have decided not to anymore. Last time I visited, I was finishing up eating a muffin that I had brought from home while standing in line getting ready to order when the owner insisted that I leave because outside pastries are prohibited at the coffee shop. Fix Coffeebar is a great coffeeshop, depending on who's working when you go. Many of the baristas are delightful, knowledgeable, talented, and kind. The owner, though, is in a class of his own. And not in a good way. Today, I went into Fix to do some light reading while one of my friends did some work on her thesis. I ordered a drink immediately upon arrival (because if you don't order a drink IMMEDIATELY, you will be yelled at by the owner), and sat down to start my work. After a couple hours had passed, it was dinnertime, and my girlfriend brought me some take-out. I went outside to eat the food, because if you even TRY to eat food inside Fix that hasn't been purchased in Fix, you will be reprimanded. However, I had forgotten a fork - my girlfriend went inside to ask for a utensil from the barista and was very reluctantly given one. Not even five minutes later, the owner came out to inform us that it was incredibly rude of us to eat food outside and to ask for a fork!! What absolutely unforgivable behavior! Let it be known, by the way, that Fix does have pastries and snacks, but nothing that is accommodating for my dietary restrictions, nor anything that is filling enough to count as a dinner. After this interaction, my girlfriend and I were very uncomfortable, and I quickly gathered my things and left. I'm not quite sure where the owner gets off criticizing his customers, and it seems like he is making more and more enemies by the minute. No one wants to feel like they're stepping on egg-shells in a coffeeshop, constantly afraid of doing something to provoke the owner. Fix has a lot of good reviews, because, honestly, its coffee is good. However, there is other good coffee in Houston, which you can get without having to deal with the sort of behavior that is commonplace in Fix. If you plan on being anything other than Garry's (the owner's) definition of a "perfect customer," do not go to the coffeeshop. Otherwise, you will be made to feel unwelcome in his shop because he will "call you out" for behavior that he deems "unacceptable." It's frustrating to me that people continue to go to Fix, even when the owner's behavior is so unacceptable. We should all decide, together, that we deserve more courteous behavior from someone's whose business is funded BY us. I am going to stop going to Fix Coffeebar, and I urge you all to do the same read more

Oh, my this place is wonderful! It's secret now... I'll be sad when this place explodes with customers! The coffee is great, I got a cold brew to start off with just to try. It's smooth and not too acidic which is hard to do with a cold brew. They're planning on having kegerators (cold brew on tap) and nitro cold brew soon! So excited. Tried their drip coffee as well - is unique and VERY good. Again, not too acidic with a rich flavor without being overpowering to the palate. Their tables are large and solid - quite comfortable for being solid wood. They're all moveable so this space could be transformed into multiple configurations - thinking party or event... Their music played over their stereo system is all LPs that are stashed over by the beer/wine cooler. Pretty cool concept. The music stopped and I had to question what happened... then the owners when and flipped the LP... old school and classy. :) The wifi is fast and easily attainable. Happy Hour is 4-8 everyday ($1 off beer and wine). Looks like they have about 20-30 beers to choose from and a couple different wines (including Champagne). Woot! They currently just have fresh pastries to eat which looked delicious. The owners were awesome and in-house, available to answer questions. I noticed the pop up of the coffee bar in the shopping plaza that I frequent and lucky for me I hadn't had my coffee fix that day. Can you say yummmm I had a latte with 2% milk and the holiday pecan syrup. Needless to say I devoured the latte quicker than I wanted but it was necessary. I will definitely visit this quaint coffee bar again. They have great coffee, The staff was super friendly, they have free wi-fi ( well according to the signage it's not free for them so buy something), they have coffee to purchase in which they will grind the beans to your liking and they have an alcohol (beer and wine) happy hour. I visited this place the day after they opened, and stayed for a good 3-4 hours. The coffee is great! Karee and Garry know their coffee, and are super friendly!! They make great recommendations, and take a lot of care into making the drink. We even got free tastings of few other coffees they were making that day - I particularly liked the chemex Garry made for us. Baked stuff is from weights+measures - and you can't go wrong with that! Garry was really nice to us, and offered us (also for free...) more baked goods than we could/should eat :) I learned that Karee and Garry are bikers, and have a big collection in their garage. The artwork on display complements their interests! Overall, great vibe, really fast internet, very friendly owners. I'll definitely visit again! read more

DO NOT GO HERE! TERRIBLE customer service. Would not recommend if you want to do work or anything other than to-go orders as the staff informed me as I was ordering my drink that they do not make money on people like me who waste time on the computer (I came in and ordered my drink right away) but instead make money on the to-go orders. The staff is extremely rude and coffee is mediocre * the three of us planned on ordering drinks but he was so extremely rude before the other two of us had a chance to order we decided we would rather spend our money somewhere more friendly and welcoming. The owner felt the need to comment on my review that we "only ordered 1 drink between the 3 of us," but we initially all planned to buy drinks before he was so rude to us as soon as we got here. read more
