A place that could have a lot of potential for fine dining, but fell short. First, we were disappointed because we didn't realize that we couldn't get the bar menu because we were sitting in the dining room, not just at the bar. We made reservations because we knew it was going to be a busy night (Light Up Night) and it wasn't clear to us making that reservation that we'd have to order from the dinner menu. The dinner menu did not live up to its pricing. The food quality was subpar, and it was full of experimental flavors that didn't mesh too well. The saving grace of the evening were the cocktails. We really enjoyed the two we got. Though we may return if invited by friends, we won't choose to return ourselves. read more

I have been here a few times, and I only write good reviews. I am not from Pittsburgh I am from Chicago. I am also in The industry and have run plenty of my own stores and businesses. I will never write a bad review, I only spend my time to write good ones. I do enjoy the ambience, and the atmosphere. I have only enjoyed one or two things off the menu so I can't vouch for everything that is offered. I did in fact enjoy a few glasses of wine at the bar and it was during happy hour and what seemed to be during a time when a few conferences had let out. I opted for a glass of wine just to keep it simple for the bartender because I could see that they were a few people that were not as simple.. she did the best that she could and was polite during a busy trying time being the only bartender. Another time that I have sat at a table alongside the windows, it was still very busy and it seem to be short staffed. This is not a bad thing but my waiter was very accommodating and explain things on the menu and was quick to suggest and give his input to help make decisions easier. I did enjoy a few memo says in the early afternoon on a Sunday along with a breakfast menu, and my friend enjoyed the lobster roll. We both were delighted with our service and the food that we were unsure what to expect with as far as portions etc. I would definitely come here again, as I felt comfortable and accommodated. I did feel although the prices were a bit more than I expected... I now know for the next time. I hope to try more on this smaller menu, but I would definitely come back as far as I know right now. We mentioned on the reservation that it was a birthday and nothing was addressed, we had to ask at the end... food was also pretty subpar. Hated the short rib sandwich, meat was somehow heavy but flavorless? Smash burger was pretty good, but very simple. The bahn mi sandwich was ok but weird that it had bologna in it? Coffee and latte tasted pretty burnt and low quality. Only thing that was well liked across the board were the thin fries and matcha latte Panna cotta. Really enjoyed the meringue and Panna cotta. We lunched here before the symphony because of its great location. The view is fun, and the facility is lovely. I had the lobster roll, which had a disappointing amount of delicious lobster salad, on a plain, stale, brioche bun. It was not buttered or grilled. The shoestring fries were overcooked and unsalted...with no salt on the table. My young granddaughter had the hamburger, which she said did not have enough of the secret sauce. Ok, so my expectations may have been set a little too high. The space is lovely, yes. However, my food was just "ok" I ordered the lobster bisque, and it was delivered cold. I also had the Brussels sprouts - and there was nothing great about them. They were totally saturated in balsamic, oil, and salt. Thankful I didn't decide to order an entree, based on the experience I had with my soup and appetizer. In addition, our service was lacking. We sat at the bar, and the gentleman who was unloading the glasses was much more helpful than the bartender. Based on photos, I would stop for brunch. I was finally able to stop in here recently for lunch after having heard some great things. From the moment you walk in the place has a really cool feel to it. The bar area is very modern and different looking. It would be a great spot for a happy hour. For my meal I went went with the French dip. This was one of the best French dips I have ever had. The meat was tender,l and the horseradish sauce complimented it perfectly. The bun was also one of the best parts of the sandwich. Sometimes places will use cheap bread with a French dip which can cause the sandwich to become soggy or fall apart. The bread here however was fresh, crisp, and stayed together when dipped in the au jus. On the side they give you a mound of fries that no one person could finish. They were also delicious. UPDATE (2/27): I sent a copy of this review to management. I had back immediately apologizing and taking comments into consideration and improvement for the future. First off I would give a 4.5 star rating for the food but since there is no differentiation between and food service this is why it's low The experience of service I had was awful. I came with my friend prior to seeing Hamilton on a Friday night. We had a 6pm reservation. Our server didn't ask if we were seeing a show and in hindsight maybe we should have mentioned but we were wearing fancy dresses. My friend is vegan and had been here recently so she knew modifications could be made. It took 25 mins for our cocktails to arrive. Which came after our first appetizer - the squash which was great - fyi it's cold. Our dinner - my friend got a vegan version of the pasta and I got the short rib arrived at 7:15pm. Our server at this point knew we were going to Hamilton and on a time crunch. We basically had to inhale our food. He brought us bread but it had butter on it after my friend had some. What was worse the table behind us was seated after us and were served before us. Someone messed up big time but there was NO ownership - he comped my friend a coffee. Really. I get maybe not drinks but at least apps. I suffer from eosinophilic esophagitis and have had multiple emergency endoscopies with food being stuck. I was starving and trying to take care of myself but when we got to the theatre I was suffering from pretty bad acid reflux and barely slept. Food was decent, and while the servers were kind, the overall service was disorganized and fragmented. Took multiple people to seat us even though we had a reservation and the place was nearly empty. Even with multiple servers helping us, they forgot my espresso, but when they finally brought it it was in a very hot glass (not a coffee or espresso mug) without a handle. Salt was brought to the table without salt in it. As for the food, we had the lobster roll which was mediocre at best (bread was subpar and sauce was coleslaw like). I came to FL.2 for brunch. There is a parking garage so you don't have to worry about finding parking downtown. I made reservations and was seated immediately. The waiter did not come to serve me and my party for while. Our waiter appeared burnt out and wasn't attentive and this was seen by other parties. One guest got up and serve his table their own water. Once we did order, our food came out quickly but our drinks took forever. The food was delicious . That 48oz What did I get A friend and I shared the 48Oz ribeye steak that came with fingerling potatoes and broccolini. The steak was amazing! We got it done medium and it was good. The potatoes though tasted a bit under done... the broccolini was good! Not enough of it but it was good. Because the Brussels sprouts sounded really good we got them too, surprisingly they were as good for us.... it was very under cooked that it was very bitter. Should've been cooked a bit more... I don't remember the rum based drink that they have. But it as nice and fruity! Oh yes! And there is complimentary bread! That's always good Environment The restaurant is inside a hotel on the second floor (ha.. hence the name). Very fancy. Great place for a date or nice and quite. Came here last night with some friends. We parked over on the blvd of the allies in a parking garage and walked straight through market square. I wasn't sure what parking would be like but I'm glad I opted for $6 instead of the valet parking. We ordered a few things to share off the menu...the cheese tray, simple green salad, french fries, and a few appetizers. Overall I thought the food was just okay. Maybe the entrees would have been more flavorful? The menu was quite pricey but I expect that downtown in a hotel. I tried two different drinks...the sangria and the cuvee brut champagne. The sangria tasted a bit watered down but man that champagne was tasty!!! The restaurant/ hotel is in a great location within walking distance to many great places. I have visited Fl 2 a number of times and it is always good. My coworkers and I would go for happy hour, when the prices are much more reasonable ($5 for wine, discounted well drinks and some apps). I have gotten a coffee cocktail that was really good! I also enjoy their shoestring french fries. The ambiance is the main draw for me. I love the feel of the bar area and the large windows looking out at the city. The service is okay, it never stood out as particularly good or bad to me. By far one of the most aesthetic brunches in Pittsburgh. The bar itself is a photo op. The gold accents are stunning as well. Table tops are always set nicely. I have been for brunch a few times. Most recently I ordered pancakes with a side of potatoes. The potatoes were great, well seasoned, and definitely crispy. The pancakes were good too but not as good as I had hoped. I've been here quite a few times with my boyfriend for a date night. We even came here when his family came from out of town. The decor and vibe of the whole place is worth going alone. However, the food is absolutely to die for. Everything we have had there is delicious. Some of my favorites are: arugula salad, free bird wings, burrata, and the Atlantic salmon. A few of my friends got a juice off their great juice menu. I got the "Lunch with Joe": prosecco, lemon juice, elderflower, smoked rosemary. I don't think I'd ever had a drink like that before. It was definitely very, very smokey, and overall pretty good. For my entree, I had the lamb gyro, which I thought was disappointing. It has been two years since my last visit here and was glad for the opportunity to see the latest updates. Since my last visit they have expanded the dining area and created an "open kitchen" for guests to watch meals prepared. I had a reservation and was seated promptly. I had a friendly and helpful waitress who went over the menu with me. I was glad to learn that you can swap out your side for either French fries or a salad if chips aren't your favorite. I wanted to get the lobster sandwich but after learning the lobster is served chilled I went with the lamb French dip and side salad. The salad was good and I got my sandwich on a large hoagie style bun. I found the sandwich tasted bland and the dipping sauce watered down. My waitress sensed my disappointment and asked if I wanted something else. I went with the breaded cod sandwich. This sandwich was indeed an improvement over the first one but wasn't a large portion. I was glad anyway since I had already eaten part of the lamb French dip and wanted to finish my sandwich. Overall it was very good. I need to note that there are no restrooms in the restaurant nor the entrance that houses the bar. You literally have to go out of FL 2 and head halfway down the hall of the Fairmont hotel to find them. Also please note that this is the primary restaurant of the Fairmont so expect to pay hotel prices when dining here. Dining options can be hit or miss but having a server who was more attentive to my needs and me not having to pay an up charge to replace something I wasn't fond of made my visit worthwhile. The FL2 is located on the 2nd floor of the Fairmont hotel near Market Square. If you are not able to access the stairs there is an elevator in the lobby that will take you up there. Service started out at a decent pace but by the end was nonexistent. Almost all of our food came out cold unfortunately-eggs, potatoes, fries, omelettes. We watched it sit for a long time under a heat lamp before a manager finally brought it. My sister said her burger was good, and my sausage was somewhat warm. Exceptional. I went as a group to fl 2, and I just had a great time all the way through. The restaurant is located on the second floor (yeah you guessed it) of a hotel, and the hotel+restaurant aesthetic is just amazing. Fl 2 is super modern, clean, and so open. The bar has one of the most beautiful displays I've ever seen, and overall, the space is just overwhelming in polish. My waiter was super cool, and was very attentive with our table. As for the food, wow for the selection. They have all the favorites, from salad to steak, and even vegetarian favorites (ratatouille!) and fun seafood options like mussel. If you come with a group, you'll definitely be able to experience the amazing array of food options. I had a table full of food, but some highlights were the chickpeas, which if you like a tangy, sour feel, is very fun. The ratatouille was amazing, which coming from a meat lover, means a lot. The veggies weren't sliced thin like they do in the movie, but they were baked well and the sauce was just so wholesome and comforting to eat. As for the other entrees I chose, I wasn't too impressed by them. The 28 oz ribeye had high expectations, and I thought that the meat just wasn't seasoned fully and seared well enough. The meat quality was good, but the texture was a bit tight and it wasn't too savory chewing through the meat. The sea bass was alright, but the jumbalaya choice for the soup was a mistake in my opinion. Mixing in calamari, mussles, and even potatos (???) into a tomato soup was quite a weird combination with the bass, and I wasn't too happy with that. Stayed at the Fairmont for a couple of nights. I ordered room service the first. I ordered a half rotisserie chicken with whipped mash, and broccoli rabe. Chicken was rubbery and over salted. The broccoli rabe was over-salted to the point where it was in edible. Went for breakfast the next morning at the restaurant and ordered the all American breakfast, two eggs over medium, toast, and potatoes. Plate came out with eggs overcooked hard. Waiter put in a second order which came out correct but the potatoes were OLD like they'd been made HOURS ago and the oil they were cooked in tasted like fish. What can I say other than to avoid this overpriced bad diner food. read more

My partner and I came here to celebrate my Birthday. We loved the vibe the restaurant had. The gold light fixtures with woods and metals. Like a hardware restoration store feeling. We started off with the mussels. Huge portion of delicious mussels, and broth that was so flavorful. We also wanted to try the kampachi which was pretty good. We loved the soy sauce it came in. For the main course, we saw some one get the cast iron ribeye (28oz). Best decision all night. Ask for more of the Au Jus sauce (BORDELAISE). That was incredible with the onion jam. Me and my partner are still talking about how amazing the sauce and the onion jam were with that perfectly cooked meat. Loved it here, cant wait to come back for dessert. We were way to full. Delicious food and revamped concept here! I had the striploin steak, which was prepared exactly to temperature. However, it was a little more broiled than grilled and I would've preferred more of a grilled taste. I also had the rice pudding dessert, which was great. It had a granola and brûléed citrus topping that really enhanced the taste and flavor. They were also running a $5 wine special and the wines were delicious! We did have an issue with our service. We had a 6pm reservation in advance of a 7:30 show, which we communicated at the beginning. We were one of only a couple tables in the restaurant so it shouldn't have been an issue. Lovely! I stopped in on a chilly morning a few days before Christmas and had a simply delightful breakfast experience. The space is bright and airy with big windows that look out toward Market Square and downtown (especially cool with all of the holiday lights that are up right now). The staff -- from the hostess, to the lady who walked me to my table, to the waitress -- were gregarious and full of smiles (always a good thing when you're not quite ready to "morning"). The coffee was strong and piping hot and my breakfast -- avocado toast with poached eggs and cherry tomatoes -- was just wonderful. The bread that all this was served on was dense and flavorful (not sure its origin, but really good and hearty) and the eggs were *perfectly* poached. The atmosphere and quality of the food are top notch. Our waiter was excellent and he had about ten tables. The only downside other than the prices, which are high, is that the menu is somewhat limited but they may be why the quality is so good. The charcuterie platter is excellent with a nice balance of cheese and meat choices. The steak and brinzino we had were both very tasty. You do get a 15% discount if you are a symphony subscriber. This is the high end of Pittsburgh restaurants and you get what you pay for. read more
