We got two pies, the Italian beef and the dill pickle. I love the creative toppings. This is tavern style pizza. That means it's baked twice. Once for the dough, once for the toppings. That can lead to a dryer crust which is pretty typical for the style. It's crispy and the topping ratio really matters. This place hit. The dough was super crispy and the toppings mad up about 2/3rds of the bite. The Italian beef was really good, the pickle was alright. The sauce seemed broken and mealy. We will be back each time were in the area.

We were seated immediately. The problem was waiting 15 to 20 minutes after being seated without receiving any service, especially at a nearly empty restaurant. As for value, it's hard to judge since we never had the opportunity to order anything. However, spending nearly 20 minutes waiting for someone to acknowledge us made the experience feel like a waste of time. It's unfortunate because the atmosphere and location were great, but the lack of service completely overshadowed the rest of the experience. At that point I knew the first meal wasn't a fluke. It's not inexpensive, but the portions are generous, and I felt the quality more than justified the price. The staff was excellent, too. The gentleman with the glasses at the meat counter was friendly, funny, and made the experience even more enjoyable. Have been to this little gem now a couple of times. Its right by the Pony where I've been to watch some Hawks games, but after this place opened I found my new gamewatch spot. The atmosphere in there is really cool. TV's everywhere so there's really not a bad seat in the place. I usually sit at the bar, but the tables are good too. The service there is excellent. They usually have a DJ during the games, and play Chelsea Dagger after they score. It's alot of fun. I've had a couple things to eat there but my two favorites are the Cuban burger and popcorn shrimp. I mean who takes a cuban sandwich and puts in on a burger. It's really good. And they're popcorn shrimp isn't your typical super-deep fried greasy shrimp. It's light and addicting. I'd suggest this place to anyone looking for a laid back spot to get some really good food and watch some games. If I had to chose between any of those elite dining establishments, and flagship tavern, I would chose flagship 11/10 times. The haters always say "oh but Griffin, surely Flagship doesn't compare to French laundry?" My bad. I forgot that French Laundry gives you J mo shots on the house, and they have TVs in the bathroom so you can you watch your team make a goal line push while taking a dump. Oh wait. When we got our check, we got charged full price for the first two HH drinks. She never said sorry and just said "oh, let me check...". I'm so glad I found it because it did not disappoint. We ordered a duck grinder with sweet potato tots subbed for fries, along with a cheeseburger from the kids menu. The quality and flavor of everything was excellent, as was the value. The duck grinder and very generous side of tots was enough for two meals (for me, at least). But even if it wasn't, I wouldn't care because it was so unique and delicious. The richness of the tender, well-seasoned duck was complemented beautifully by the chimichurri, and the roll was just the right size and thickness to hold everything together while letting the filling take center stage. The burger was also great - and at a quarter pound vs the half pound burgers on the regular menu, it's a nice choice if you don't want something huge. Whatever is happening in the Avondale Tap kitchen, they've got a great thing going. I'd order again (or check them out in person) in a heartbeat!
