I joined some friends here for a special occasion dinner on a Saturday evening. We were greeted by a huge bar near the front entrance with the most engaging bartender. He made great drinks as well. We were then escorted to the wine cellar for a private dinner. What a gorgeous space! It was moody with well stocked shelves of wine. Made for a great backdrop. Friends: It has been quite a while since I treated myself to a great steak while sitting at a restaurant bar. If you want the best steak in the County, the only choice is Flames Bar & Grill in Briarcliff Manor. Still an enclave of high end dining with that plush steakhouse feel. Started with a cold poured Peroni beer bottle ($9), with nice warm complementary rolls and cold restaurant style butter pats. Then the $20 baked clams Oreganata - 6 delicious clams with perfectly browned breadcrumb tops with lemon butter for dipping the bread - very good. Yummy. The main course was a hot sizzling plate of a large T bone steak for one ($74) cooked a perfect medium (for my liking) sliced off the bone with plenty of juice. The sliced long steak fries came and they were crispy and had a great color - $16. The bartender gave me lots of ketchup for the fries. The best part of the steak is the T bone itself. You must dine with understanding friends since gnawing on the bone is a delicious messy prerequisite - but you can't gnaw on it without having a napkin nearby. Good teeth required. You must also have a glass of bold red wine at this point, since a Flames steak deserves it. Excellent tender steak slices. The bartender poured me a nice house bold Pinot Noir - in a beautiful tall glass (a nice pour) ($18) There was no way I could finish the steak and fries, but that's OK they packed them in a nice paper bag folded just right. I'm eating the leftovers as I write this review. Sorry about the greasy fingers on the keyboard -lol. So how can Flames Bar & Grill improve to an excellent 5th star? While the staff are very professional, a smile and small talk might be nice. They offer high quality wines by the glass and will let you taste them, but never tell you the brand or the vintage. The selection is limited to one wine per type - Cabernet, Tuscan, Pinot etc. Draft beer would be a nice addition. Lastly, while steakhouses are expensive- my meal was $137 before tax and tip. I wish it was less, but no such luck. Slight discount for cash. Flames Bar & Grill - an excellent choice for perfect steak. I will return. read more

This was our first time at Flames & the ambiance was lovely, & service was excellent. We started with the Flames salad (shared) which at $32.00 should have been plentiful but it was a tiny portion chock full of onions & a few soggy shrimp! The filet with bone-in was perfect, however my rack of lamb was chewy (medium temp). I'll admit I was disappointed in my meal especially for the price paid. read more

Flames used to be my favorite restaurant but Of late I find the quality of steak has become Inconsistent. We went last week. My wife and I ordered the Bone In Ribeye. Hers was Medium well and mine was medium. The steaks came out done less than medium and were not sizzling like they are supposed to be. We sent them back and they were better but Not great. My son ordered Filet Minion and also sent it back to be cooked. He is a big steak lover and lives in NYC so he knows what He likes. I did call the restaurant 2 days later To let the owner know my disappointment. Bottom line--I am guessing you have be lucky and catch the right crew. read more

The eggplant rollintini here is the best I've had. The sauce is amazing. (Kind of reminds me of the macaroni and cheese balls from Cheesecake Factory sauce). They have a nice crunch to them as well. Highly recommend. Cheapest bottle of wine we could find was $65 and it was very good. Ambiance is fancy, very quiet. Would not be able to bring my rowdy family here lol Calamari was also good, sauce had a little spicy kick to it. Servers were able to accommodate us by making our steak for two half medium and half medium rare. Our waiter was kind and personable. Steak was delicious. Broccoli rabe was also good. The mashed potatoes and Caesar salad were just okay. Wish it was better for the price we are paying. Disappointed by the crime brûlée, as it did not have a crunchy shell on top. My family did not have a good experience here at all. We ordered a tomahawk steak, which had a few things wrong with it. It was somehow both extremely overcooked and gray, yet completely gummy and raw in the center. It had very little meat on it, despite costing $185, and it was nearly submerged in oil. When my mother tried to speak up about it, the waiter simply just walked away. They also casually just refilled my father's ginger ale with water, and walked away. This is the same place that flat out refused to honor a $200 gift card my parents were gifted. I expected much more out of what is supposed to be a nice steakhouse. Will not be returning. read more

We were trying to find a place midway between Danbury and Haverstraw for a dinner with friends and Flames popped up on the radar. Based on the reviews, we thought it was worth a shot. We arrived, dropped our cars with the valet and were promptly seated. We ordered drinks and then bread arrived. We started with a shrimp cocktail, which was pricey but good. We could have probably had two. I ordered the rib eye, which was great. The portion was generous and I took half of it home for the next day! Other sides for the table included brussels sprouts and onion rings, both good. The cheesecake I had for dessert was the lightest and creamiest I'd ever had! Review was hidden on google but I'll put it here AWFUL OWNER! Ruined a birthday, got served rancid beef and not at all worth the price. The bread didn't taste good to start off the night before even ordering. Waters were brought out and tasted like pool water. Ordered the t-bone and it tasted completely rancid, told the waiter and when he picked up the plate his noise completely turned up and he made a face from the smell alone. We were told it was just the dry age. The other member of the party ordered the filet medium rare and medium, the filets came out still completely raw in the center. The salmon was completely dry. Everyone in the party felt sick following. Responding to the owners lying comments that he has now deleted. The dining room was nearly empty on a Saturday night at dinner hour. We did not try a free meal and still tipped well after everything. The meal was mostly eaten because of the high prices and not wanting to be disrespectful to the couple paying but the steak was so egregiously bad that something had to be said eventually. Learn how to spell and to take criticism. Also the stuffed clams had a few hard grainy pieces in them. And there are several other comments about the quality of steak and bread. He also has not responded to other reviews claiming him to be an alcoholic who destroyed his family but chose to respond to this and then delete it. I guess this review was more impactful. Had the surf & turf lobster & a fillet. I'm not sure how long they left it in the microwave- & if they were trying to make my steak knife ineffective - total success! Absolutely amazing! Came here with my boyfriend for his birthday on a Friday night, and we could not stop praising the good and the service. Every waiter in the restaurant was incredibly attentive and personable. The busboy was great, and also helped us out so much. We got the salad with bacon which was a great starter. My boyfriend got the T-Bone and it was a great size and delicious. I got the Surf and Turf, and was blown away by how phenomenal it was. For dessert, we got the cheesecake and the apple tart, both were great! Again, service was phenomenal, we talked everyone's ear off and the food was amazing. First time here, even though I've lived 10 minutes away for 15 years. The food, especially the steak and crab, was excellent, and I've been fortunate to eat at some of the best steakhouses in the world. The service, up until the food was served, was very good. At that point, we were abandoned. No one came to ask how the food was, or to refill our drinks. When I finally flagged down our waiter 30 minutes later to order another drink, it took 15 minutes to arrive. Desert menus were delivered, but no one returned to take our order. Prices are Manhattan-level, yet they had the audacity to add a credit card surcharge. They need more staff, better training, and/or an attitude adjustment. We won't be coming back, and I'll be telling my friends and neighbors to avoid it. read more

Location & service was OK but the food was awful steak was cold, side so cold. Or the steak medium rare and it didn't look rare it had a funny look to it and a funny smell to the steak. They give us a bread basket of three small pieces of bread but enough butter for 15 people! The saddest by the window maybe that was a funny smell the fact that they don't clean their windows or the boats they hang in front of the windows. I told him I wanted to take everything to go they only packed the steaks and throw out the sides. We didn't finish our dinner and it was the worst 250 bucks I ever spent. The bar and dining room have been redecorated and are both classic and comfortable. The bar has a solid selection of scotches, and other fine liquors. BTG wine selections are ample. Service has been attentive without being intrusive during two visits, one weekday and one Friday. Both visits had our group start with the seafood "tower" - a mix of crab, 1/2 lobster, clams and oysters. This can be had for two, three or more. Served on either a platter or a standing tower depending on your table size. Cocktail sauce, mignonette and tiny tabasco bottles are snuggled into the ice. The crab is truly outstanding, lobster fresh, and shellfish brings up the rear. We also shared medium rare aged Porterhouse both times - done perfectly and a terrific piece of beef. Sides are either mushrooms, onion rings or spinach - the usual steakhouse fare - along with potatoes three ways (fries, baked, home fries). I found the onion rings among the best ever anywhere, the spinach uninspiring, and still need to try the taters. The wine list offers lots of sub-$100 choices along with the cult cabs for those who want to splurge. As with most steakhouses, it's a bit pricey, but the food is truly good. So if you don't want to drive down to NYC or White Plains, you should be happy here. read more

Yesterday my wife and i attempted to have dinner at Flames Bar and Grill. We made our reservations and then came into the restaurant, then some Caucasian guy yells out OH MY GOD! then things really got bad. The restaurant was at 30% capacity, We were the only people of color there. The waiter brought us water and the complimentary bread. But that was it. We waited almost 20 minutes, Only to observe the waiters tend to all the other customers. We were completely ignored simply because of the color of our skin. it felt like 1965 or better yet 1865. When we got up to leave ,they didn't care. If you care about people of color or care about yourself. I dined here tonight while attending a continuing education presentation, and please don't crucify me - but I did not have steak. The restaurant is decorated nicely - dark colors mainly with big comfy chairs in a variety of upholstered patterns. We were seated in a room which kind of represented the inside of a boat - I'm not sure if that's what they were going for but that's what I got from it. Apps were served family style - stuffed clams, eggplant rollatini, fried calamari, and a cold antipasto platter. For my main I had the chicken francese and for dessert they served platters of Italian cheesecake, chocolate cake, apple-almond tart and what looked like puff pastry layered with custard (I didn't try it). Food was just okay. The fried calamari was quite good, but the other stuff was just average. The antipasto lacked flavor and I wasn't a fan of the sauce the eggplant was sitting in. My main was tasty but wasn't a standout. As far as dessert, the cheesecake was definitely the best - rich but not heavy. I sampled the chocolate cake which was kinda dry. Service was pretty good, no real complaints. Overall just an okay experience, I wouldn't rule it out but I'm not running back read more

I've been to steak houses near and far and I am a pretty honest critic. There's not much not to like about flames bar and grill. In fact, my only 2 complaints are extremely random and not something you would even consider when choosing a steakhouse. My first complaint is that the menus were very cheap looking for an expensive steakhouse. If I'm spending this kind of money, I want to hold a nice leather back menu, not some shiny plastic diner menu. My other complaint was I was not fond of the bathroom cleanliness. But enough negative, here are the positives. We started off with a more than generous size portion of the Canadian thick cut bacon that is to die for, followed by the wasabi tuna. They were both delicious. Our main courses was a bone in rib eye that literally melted in your mouth with garlic mash and creamed spinach as sides. It was all so incredibly prepared and the taste was to die for. My biggest take away from Flames was how friendly the staff is, and in my opinion that is one of the most important aspects in critiquing a restaurant. I will absolutely be returning to this restaurant and I HIGHLY recommend it to all who want a high quality steak and an incredible evening. read more

I don't know if these reviews are fake or something, but there is no way in hell this is deserves a 4 star rating. With tip, I paid $400 for a family dinner here for a steak for three and some appetizers, and this is the worst steak I've ever eaten. Yes, that includes steaks that I've cooked myself when I was still learning how to cook 15 years ago. I see they rebranded from "Flames Steakhouse" to Flames Bar and Grill, and there's definitely a reason for that. They fundamentally do not know how to cook steak. Let me explain: - We ordered medium rare, but the steak was still mooing. I'm fine with rare too, but there are certain cuts of meat where rare is fine and others where it simply doesn't work. A porterhouse is part filet mignon and part NY strip. In my opinion, unless you have a good cut of meat, strip is horrible rare or beyond because there are too many tough sinews and connective tissues (the white bits) that make it extremely tough to chew. Furthermore, much of the fat was still white while the outside was burnt. This signals to me that they did not follow one of the fundamental rules of cooking steak. COOK ONLY WHEN THE MEAT HAS REACHED ROOM TEMPERATURE - I guarantee you they do not use Prime beef. Their meat is Choice at best, but likely Select. I've had Prime beef, and it's absolutely nothing like that. This was the toughest porterhouse steak I've ever eaten. Might even be the toughest steak I've ever eaten. Nobody at the table could swallow the steak because it simply wouldn't break down so we ended up regurgitating it on a napkin or elsewhere. - Appetizers are an absolute joke. No exaggeration, their "mozzarella salad" is a slice of tomato with a slice of hard store mozzarella on top. That's it. No, I'm not exaggerating, that's literally it. No seasoning, nothing making the ingredients work together cohesively, no oil, no garnish, no lettuce, NOTHING. A SLICE OF TOMATO AND A SLICE OF STORE MOZZARELLA ON TOP. $17. Gtfo. - Their cheapest wine is close to $60. Really? Their service was okay, but that doesn't mean jack unless your food is AT LEAST decent. No, the food was not even decent. I mean the quality was worse than any home cooked meal I've ever had. Hope none of you waste money on this overpriced garbage restaurant. I felt scammed after the experience. read more
