Flanders installed a Fujitsu ductless mini-split system in our home; they solved some installation challenges that other companies thought were impossible to overcome. They were priced very competitively too, I got 3-4 bids on this project and Flanders was the lowest but also the most responsive to questions, and when it came time to schedule the service, they were very quick to get the job done. Our bathroom flooded. Among other things, it messed up our furnace closet. We were left with little option but to remove the old furnace and replace it with a new one because the old one was 30yo and a hazard. Bret gave us two options for replacement (#1 was sufficient, #2 was nicer) and explained the difference between the two. We went w/ nicer since it was ~1k more but 3 dB quieter. We have a small yard and I'll be working in that space so I thought it was worth it. He also explained what I'd have to do to get tax rebates. tl;dr it wasn't worth it for my tiny townhouse. They were able to install everything in about 8h despite the rain. I like how he walked in with a checklist of what needed to be done and was focused on getting everything done quickly and properly without unnecessary dallying. I've had two different experiences with Flanders Heant & Air. They installed a new central heat system for me. The experience was good. The prices seemed a bit high but they were responsive. The stayed for the city inspector and made repairs immediately to satisfy inspection (just needed to switch an outlet to a GFCI type) The system works great. Recently I called to have some modifications made due to a remodel and I get a very surprising reaction. The owner claimed I wasted his time when he sent a crew of 3 out and I wasn't ready for them. He never sent a 3 person crew out so I think he's confusing me with someone else. He was so upset he even started calling me names. I was so shocked I didn't really respond. So, I would gauge the mood of the company before hiring them. I don't need to pay them for abuse. I was so disappointed since their original service was good. If you want a company who isn't on their game, then this company is for you. From install to follow up city inspections (they scheduled it almost 10 months after the fact, they've been less than impressive. The same day, after the install, my furnace didn't work properly, because the technician didn't know how to make the AC unit and furnace work together off the same thermostat (huh?). I had to call the guy to come back to fix his own work.He didn't even check it before he left! He then ran new thermostat wire (which he didn't even need to) which looked like garbage just strung across my garage. They came back and "attempted" to fix it, but didn't really. I resorted to just doing it myself. What a joke. Don't hire this company. Go for someone more reputable and who actually cares about quality. read more

My home warranty service sent the contract to these folks to fix my air conditioner and thermostat problems. The technician, Matt, arrived within the two-hour window and got right to work. He did about fifteen minutes of troubleshooting and head scratching and decided to go up on the roof to check out the air conditioning unit. It was a simple as flipping a lever. Apparently, some bonehead was up there at some point recently and turned off ALL the units. When he came back down I asked him about my thermostat woes. It turns out my unit has a really weird setup, and I can't have the heat AND the AC work correctly because the wiring doesn't exist between my unit and the roof. (There is no heat pump on the AC unit. There are heating elements in the heater in the closet that are supposed to work in emergency mode which is either on or off and not controlled by a temperature setting. At least that's my understanding of it.) This guy could have fed me a line of BS (like Supreme Air has done for the past two years), installed a new thermostat, and I would have had to call someone back out in the winter. Now I understand the situation because he took the time to explain it to me. After 34 years of faithful service, our upstairs air conditioner died in the middle of the recent hot spell. I called our good friends/neighbors and asked for a recommendation for an air conditioning repair company. They gave me a name that I called immediately, only to be told that they only install new systems - they do not do repairs. I asked if they could recommend someone for repairs, and they gave me Flanders name. Knowing it was high season for air conditioner repair, I asked who I should call if they were not able to come soon. The person I was speaking to said if Flanders could not come immediately, I should wait until they could come. That is about as high a recommendation as you can get, and it turned out to be well deserved. My appointment window was noon to two o'clock, and Matt arrived at 12:01. I know it doesn't always work that way, and when I commented on it when speaking with his office, they said sometimes it just works out that way, but it was a good start. Matt was friendly, professional, knowledgeable, and diagnosed the problem within a few minutes. He explained the possible repair and replacement options, and gave me a rough estimate on both. I was thrilled that repairing the system was even an option after so many years, so Matt said he would have his office order the replacement motor, and call me with the cost and an estimated arrival date. He hadn't been gone for ten minutes when his office called with a much lower cost than I expected, and an estimated date to complete the repair. Matt was here yesterday to install the new motor. The window was again noon to two o'clock, and again he arrived at about 12:01. If that is a coincidence, it's a good one. Matt is a very knowledgeable young man who is a pleasure to talk to. First, he is an Army veteran, which means a great deal to me; second, he is not only an expert at his job, he knows how to explain it so that someone who knows nothing about air conditioning can understand it; third, he was very gracious about letting me look over his shoulder and ask uninformed questions, which he answered in understandable detail as he worked. I have been fortunate to work from home since the Covid virus brought the world to a halt, but I am working in the hottest room in the house, which is the farthest one from the air conditioning unit. My furnace stopped working in a cold night -- I could not stop the heater, nor start it after recycle the power. I called the number from my old furnace and it still rang. The scheduling was simple and easy. Sonny came on time and he started to inspect the furnace right away. He not only checked the furnace but also explain the logic behind his procedure & decision. Flanders has had eight visits to our home to install a new HVAC system. Patience while working through a home warranty company during Covid was a given based on our June 2nd initial meeting. Installation began on 8/7 and since then, we have had six technician visits totaling at least 50 man hours of service. 8/21 the service was complete and within two hours of cold air flowing our ceiling started leaking through the smoke detector, shorting it out, triggering all of the detectors in the house to alarm requiring a call to the fire department to assist and disable. The AC unit was disabled from the main breaker and a huge hole was opened in our ceiling to drain the residual water to verify we were clear of an electrical fire. Nine days of no AC during sixteen days of installation (beyond ridiculous) with Flanders and we still sit without air conditioning. Our home is currently 92 degrees without the option for outside side air flow due to hazardous air conditions from local fires. We recently used Flanders to install a new HVAC system in our home (replace a very old furnace, new ductwork, add AC). They provided the best bid out of two, and their service was excellent. The crew was punctual, professional, and we are very happy with the work that they did. We've been using the system for about two months now (both heat and AC) and it works extremely well. My experience was also different from the reviewers that had issue with follow-up, Brett showed up early to start the project and do the initial walk through and was excellent about following up through all stages of the project. The bid they provided included handling the city permit, and their technician was there in person to accompany the inspector. Flanders was contracted by my home warranty company to inspect my previously working AC system. I was told the person doing the work (local contractor) would take my payment ($75 charged by the home insurance company), he didn't. I'm not sure how the estimate was written, or what information was provided to the insurance company since Flanders didn't return my calls for info. I contacted the tech directly and was only told I needed a new controller board due to improper wiring. The only contact I received was from my home insurance company saying based on the info they received from Flanders, my claim would be denied and that I'd still be responsible for getting them the $75 fee that was not taken while the tech was at my home. Since Flanders is not local to me and didn't respond to my phone messages, I had a local HVAC person come take another look. Turns out the board was in fact fine, and only needed a new fuse. He was able to replace the fuse and do some additional wiring for a smart thermostat in the same amount of time it took for Flanders to misdiagnose my problem and cause a denied home warranty claim. read more

We had a great experience with Matt from Flanders Heat & Air Systems. Our AC/furnace blower motor seized on a Friday PM at the beginning of a big heat wave, then we filed a claim with our home warranty company and it was dispatched to them. The following Monday AM we called to schedule an appointment and the soonest available was the next day PM, which I feel was reasonably fast given the workload they must have had after the worst heat wave of the summer. On Monday luckily I was able to find an equivalent motor from a local supplier and I managed to replace it myself to get us some relief after the hot weekend, but I wasn't able to fully inspect the system on my own. So on Tuesday Matt arrived early in the appointment window and double-checked my work, inspected the condenser and condenser line insulation, and checked refrigerant levels. Matt was very friendly and knowledgeable, I'd definitely go back to them for any follow up AC or furnace issues we have. Highly recommended! read more

UPDATE: Just received a call from the owner. Was hoping he would listen and take responsibility for their lack of service. Instead he deflected blame, told me my AC unit was old and should be replaced, and then tried to place blame on the insurance company. When I tried to explain that the insurance was willing to to this, he talked over me, and then HUNG UP on me. THE WORST COMPANY EVER! THE ONLY THING THEY CARE ABOUT IS MONEY!! My AC repair was not going to yield a large payout for them so they dumped the job and said they could not help me! This was the WORST company I have dealt with! If there could be negative stars I would give the that! They came out to fix one of our air conditioners and said they needed to order the part. We were left on a 3 day weekend with no air conditioner when it was over 100 degrees. Then they did not want to search for the part and told us they could NOT repair it and left us with a broken air conditioner in a heat wave. They would not have the common decency to come out and put the air conditioner back in a semi working order. I am beyond disgusted with this company and would not use them ever. Be careful! I had these guys come out and they first quoted me $650 when the tech was here. Then an email came from the owner who increased it to $890 for a TXV valve to be replaced. The part is less than $100 and it is typically a 1-2 hour job. You can do the math. I had another company come out that would do it for $230. While this company was out, they said the valve was installed incorrectly and was most likely the issue. (Appears the junior tech from flanders didn't even care to check that). read more

Have to say, I am not that exciting about the job that Flanders's did. He seems to be a victim of his own success as he conducts no follow-up. I even had to remind him and his staff 4 times that permits are required. (Which are supposed to be onsite BEFORE the start of the job but were not taken out until more than a week after the job was completed and only after I insisted) The actual carrier unit is performing on the high end of average. It is at least 1/3rd nosier than the unit removed (15 years old - I have a dB meter and did check). The installation was incredibly average with several issues which required the city to come out twice for an inspection. I see a major issue as Flanders's relies too much on his staff which does not appear to be at the journeyman level. One of them wanted to cut into a load bearing wall (until I stopped the technician). They also tried to hook the power into an obviously overloaded sub panel (something that would have never passed city inspection). I am still regretting not calling Bret's crew on their installation of the vent flue. They send up a 2 inch vent pipe through an existing 5" roof jack. Looks ugly. They also did not put a vent cap in the flue. Rain is now coming down the vent which will probably eventually cause rust. All in all - an A for initial presentation. A B- for installation. A D for follow-up (and instruction on how to use the new unit). I am having a central heater put into my rental properly and have contracted another HVAC company. read more

I used this company to install an A/C unit. The installation was below standarts. I had problems with leakage . It took them 6 visits to find out that the panel was broken last year. This year when i tried to use the A/C it did not work. They came 2 times . Charged me for 2 visits $580. 00 ,replaced the "freon" and the very next day there was no A/C . They told me it will be another 450.00 to diagnose the problem . They came after several days and tried to diagnose the problem which takes a day. They disconnected my heater in the meantime . I called the owner,Brat Flanders, who was rather rude and told me he will call me when he comes back since he was out of towm . I was left with no alternative but to use a different company. They were very prompt,,polite and professional They hooked up back my disconnected heater and installed properly my A/C with a new coil that was broken when the Flanders technicians were removing and replacing the panel that colects the moisture.I definitely will not recommend this company . Our AC upstairs stopped cooling last week and I called Flander's based on a neighbor's recommendation and Yelp reviews. Matt, their technician, came out and initially said our capacitor needed to be replaced and would be a few hundred dollars. He came back a few minutes later and said it was actually the compressor and that it's cheaper to replace the entire AC unit rather than take it apart to replace the compressor. Matt went on and on about how he was hoping it was just the capacitor and how, being Christian, he couldn't work for his previous company because of the lack of ethics. He said he would get the owner to email me a quote (ball parked that it would be several thousand dollars) and said he would replace the old capacitor in our unit. I wanted a second opinion because of the high ticket price. I called another reference and he came out. Gerold showed me our capacitor was missing. This usually happens when the company doesn't want you to get secondary bids. There was nothing he could do without the part because it had the part numbers on it. Luckily, Gerold of Gerold's Appliance Service called me back today and said he talked to other techs and was able to locate the part. He came in, replaced the capacitor, and what do you know? AC works like a charm again! These guys are crooks! Seriously, trying to upsell me on the entire unit when it was just a capacitor issue? SHAME ON YOU! We called Flanders because we needed a common wire connected to our Nest thermostat. Bret, the owner, came out personally and was able to find the wire in the wall and connect it. He also found that our heating unit had a cracked combustion chamber, which is a safety issue. They gave us a competitive quote on the replacement, arrived on time, and did a high quality job with the heater install. They installed an extra base at no charge so that the heater was easier to access. Took off one star because they were swamped with business and their responsiveness was slower than I expected. Flanders tried to sell me a new ac unit for over $ 2700. I was told that the compressor is busted. I had my uncle ( who fixed the ac from LA ) to diagnose the problem. After reading many Yelp reviews and interviewing almost a dozen of HVAC contractors for installing a new furnace and air conditioner for my home, I came in contact with Bret from Flanders Heat & Air. Within a few minutes, I was impressed with his knowledge, professionalism, politeness, and genuine recommendations unlike other contractors who lacked something or the other. In his first visit, he went into my attic and not only inspected everything very thoroughly, but also fixed a couple of ducts that were leaking. Within a few hours of his visit, he sent me a detailed quote. He quoted very reasonable price and spelled out every single detail of the job including exact model numbers of the equipment. Bret happily made some additional changes to the quote on my request and we agreed to start the work. On the day of the installation, he arrived on time with his crew and made sure that his crew understood exactly what was promised to me. The installers were very professional, accommodating and curtsies at all times and completed the work on time. I didn't have to pay them a dime until the installation was fully complete to my satisfaction. Bret also looked at my water heater and replaced a pipe that was not up to the code at no cost to me. A few days after the installation, Bret scheduled an inspection with the City of San Jose and everything checked out and I was given a copy of the permit.
