We had to do a drop off at LAX and were in the city early enough to walk right in and be seated on a Sunday (9:00am). Any later than 9:30, expect a wait at any LA based Black-owned breakfast spot. This place has been on our list for a while! I have been to this place several times. The food is amazing. If I return I'll probably just get my food to go. The last time I ate here, the waiter looked and acted as if he had been drinking. Which I wouldn't have mind, if it wasn't for the shower I received every time he spoke. Not something you look forward to while eating. Add to that we kept having to ask for items we ordered. We also received someone else's order. That was set down in front of me, then quickly taken to a different table. Idk if the person it belonged to saw that. I visited Flavor table yesterday with my sister and neice. We got shrimp and grits, short rib and grits, and loaded potatoes. My sister said the short and grits was good up until it wasn't anymore. She found a piece of hair in her food on the bell pepper. We informed the waiter who called the "manager" unfortunately we did not get her name.we informed her there was a piece of hair in the food she said, "what you want me to do about it." She looked unapologetic, or if we may wanted a free meal. She said I'll go to talk chef and we'll bring a new one out. She came back out and informed us chef said "we are going to comp your food and not bring another one out because we are out." That' wasn't a problem because if the short rib was contaminated the whole pot is. I asked to speak with the owner, she said "he's not coming out. The reason we wanted to speak with the owner was the lack of customer service skills the manager displayed. She didn't apologize until we told her she was not apologetic about the situation and just said "what you want me to do about it." She said we just had an inspection, we got an A, were good. So Because the hours are only brunch hours, many times there will be a short wait. They do have a few chairs outside for the wait. Met up with my girls for breakfast. Didn't have to wait too long. There was only one server when we arrived yet he was very attentive to everyone while he waited for help. The menu has a good mix of all types of yummy offerings. The omelets were swimming in grease--the Texas and Jambalaya varieties--with an overwhelming amount of orange grease pooled from the meats. The pancakes were undercooked, and the smothered potatoes lacked any flavor compared to what they used to be. We paid and left without finishing. My sis got a recommendation for this place and I am so glad she did! We got there at about 11:45 on a Sunday. The restaurant was almost full, but we were seated right away.
