This is from February 1st, 2024, my very first visit to Flipper's. Me and my fiancé were unsure what to expect from Flipper's as we were just in search of a nice breakfast place. However, after our very first visit to Flipper's, we became obsessed. Im honestly shocked that they have any bad reviews, they have great wait times, absolutely caring and kind staff and service, and lastly, the food comes EXTREMELY quick but lacks no flavor, it's honestly impressive. They use a specific oil to fry their food and it adds a unique flavor to their food that I love coming back for. I cannot wait for this place to re-open. First off, what a cute name for a pancake place! It is home of the original soufflé pancakes. It is a Japanese style of pancakes. This place is cute when you go upstairs that is where all the tables are. If there is a line you wait downstairs. The waitress I had was nice and answered my questions I had. I had the pancakes with fruit and whip cream. There is syrup on the table already, but if you want butter you will have to ask for it. I ate all of it so it was pretty darn good. Ambiance - good, they have 2 floors. 1st floor was a small space for waiting after you checked in from kiosk - yes reserve ahead!!! once our table was ready, we went to 2nd floor. the space was pretty awesome! lots of windows and bright. We were seated next to a corner windows and we get to enjoy the street view. Pretty and relaxing even when the dining area was full of ppl. Service was great and quick! Chicken was seasoned to perfection, the waffles were ok. If you're lactose intolerant, take your pills . Everything has milk/dairy in it. Strawberry sake was delicious, a few of those will have you on your butt! Will come back more prepared next time. read more

For breakfast on a Saturday morning, we set our sights on a well-known place somewhat nearby but of course - there was a long line around the block. In a scramble we walked elsewhere which had a line. While waiting I found this place on a random search and looked good so we hopped an uber and came here. What makes this place great is the ability to join the waitlist on Yelp- which I did. We pulled up and walked in right as our name was being called. Sat upstairs - bright colors, large windows, and a good crowd. We ordered coffee/matcha and a couple orders of their soufflé pancakes, as well as splitting hash browns and sausage for the table. My soufflé pancakes were very good, topped with maple cream and had syrup to add. I will say that the pancakes came out very slow, but that is indicated on the menu. The hash browns were good - spicy Mayo, and the sausage was standard. I really liked this place - and would highly recommend it. read more

I would've ordered the pancakes with fruit but didn't think to until after ordering the pancakes already. Everything came out without too long a wait. Two friends joined me mid-meal and they were able to move me and accommodate us all. One star off for the long and inaccurate wait. I came on Sunday morning, I put my name down and walked around the neighborhood, and was more than 10min away when my time came up 30min early. I ran a little and made it on time though. When we were going to pay, they wanted to give us something else, for the same price, because the manager was not there and they didn't have the code to unlock the machine. Amazing service already upon crossing through the doors. The whole dining area had an open concept. They have tables that can cater to various group sizes. They have a 14 seater dining table in the middle of the room that I'd love to be on one day! Service was very efficient that we were able to have our fill and be out in an hour. We ordered soufflé pancakes and eggs Benedict with lemonade and tea. The eggs Benedict were over pancakes, tomato and greens and can come with either ham, bacon or smoked salmon. The eggs were absolutely divine!! The soufflé pancakes were fluffy and delicious with fruit and sauce. The ice cream was a nice touch. After waiting perpetually for forty-five (45) minutes for a table as party of one, disappointedly it was certainly not "well worth the wait" as my experience was blatantly malevolent. This business uses Yelp platform for waiting list via text message notification. The male waiter Sebasitian G. ASSUMED I was part of my seat neighbor male party of one when clearly my utensils were still wrapped and untouched. Why men who see a single lady dining alone at a restaurant the customer service is malevolent? I feel worse when leaving than upon entering to be debased. Judgment provokes strife roiled. I was clearly invisible to this waiter. I waited, waited and perpetually waited to be greeted and serviced by a waiter. I sat waited, waited, waited and perpetually waited exactly as "Waiting for Godot," a play by Irish writer and playwright Samuel Beckett, but there was no intervention. Then, I had to flag his attention to be provided menus and water. I already had my order in mind as I did not want to stay in his aggravating presence much longer since he was visibly reluctant to serve me with utter disdain. Extreme utter acquiesce. He serviced this party of one male, to my right as I watched and observed who also spent the time, effort and passion servicing a party of two (a couple) to my left. "I thought you were part of that man's party." Oh! By the power of observation this restaurant was not entirely busy on a Saturday afternoon lunch as it was not full capacity where every seat is occupied as Flipper's clearly does not have the staff nor the resources to service a full house. Sebasitian G. was utterly intentional oblivious to my presence as I, obviously do not rank high for importance in priority. I was lured to Flipper's for Yelp reviews praising their signature "soufflé" styled pancakes, but my blatant BAD experience left a bad taste to become dispirited and despondent to eat anything. Sebasitian G. is bereft and devoid of empathy for the smallest measurement of an apology. There was another party who sat far and remote with a 2 year old male child wailing boisterously loud continuously for the entire duration of their meal in a stroller that echoed the restaurant. I saw this same party during my initial perpetual wait for a table and this same 2 year old male child was also wailing boisterously loud. Oh! The male waiter Sebasitian G. continued his indifference with me when I inquired directions for facility direction: "you should go downstairs as there is a line, only one restroom" fending curtness. Oh! To retaliate I choose NOT to issue any gratuity of the suggested intervals 18%, 20% and 22% written on the bottom of the claim check/bill, oh hell no! I paid $25.00 in cash for my $22.86 bill. I ejected a rude scowl look for reaction to his stolid look. Salmon cream cheese sandwich, $21.00 My salmon sandwich was a messy consumption. The sourdough bread was hard for staleness as the edge was hard. I always have a predilection for the classic French baguette bread as a better replacement for substance. I enjoyed the red onions. Came here in the morning on a weekday and there was no wait (weekends here get crazy). We had the matcha souflee pancakes and in my opinion they were alright. They had a heavy taste of egg in the batter and I didn't taste the matcha much at all. Was kinda disappointed since it did cost $19.... Flippers is modern, bright and cute. Those were my first impressions of Flippers when I got upstairs. Their brand is consistent and it shines through from its yellow-themed decorations to the bright yellow cups. It's fun, clean, and it totally reminds me of Miss Little Sunshine. It makes you feel happy the moment you go upstairs. The menu is simple and but not too versatile since it's all about pancakes and waffles. It occurred to me glancing over their menu that their most popular pancake is their Soufflé pancakes, which looks very fluffy. (PS: I personally think that if you add a lot of baking powder, you can make this at home!) On their menu, they also gave you instructions on how to eat it - wait 10 minutes and use a fork to split it. I will end with this since I didn't try their selections of pancakes, I try their waffles eggs, and fries. All taste pretty good and I would recommend coming here for a good brunch. I would caution that you would need to wait at least 30 minutes to get a table on a busy day. When we first arrived a little before noon on Saturday, we were told that our wait time would be 1.5 hours. It is not very accurate. As a family member of ours were there 10 minutes before us and put her name in, we were seated in half an hour. read more

The chicken was seasoned and I thought the waffles were pretty crunchy and fluffy. I really liked the strawberry soufflé pancakes, it wasn't that sweet and it tasted very fresh and light. I do wish the portion size was a little bit more just because it didn't feel worth the price with the amount received. Sunday brunch ~ Assuming you move past the no-reservation but waitlist experience.. Flippers is situated in one of the hotspots of SOHO. Easy to meet, combine w other activities and overall very convenient location. The place offers outdoor seating mostly for 2 but for a couple more at the front of the store. Inside on the first floor is pretty busy looking and tbh I'm not sure if the area is for actual customers. I wish it is not lol. Onto the 2nd floor: AMAZING SPACE. Big, well lit, not so much smelly, beautiful soho views everywhere you look and lots of space for larger and smaller groups. The service was seamless and discreet. We overstated and didn't say a word. The only issue was that they serve whatever is made first. The food was very satisfying. The pancakes were good (maybe not Tops Diner good but still taste on point). Eggs and lox great. The side of fries although very small - had a unique flavor and crunch which almost felt like they use truffle oil to top them off. Give me these fries anytime after a long night . Rightfully their popular dishes are indeed a hit. We will come back for both the ambience and the food. It's not 5 stars for both because they can both get a slight improvement but as a combo it becomes a 5 star experience. Also in that area these prices are very reasonable. Portions are on the generous side for Nyc Standards. There is also 18% tipping still so you get the point. 2 things I would happily see improve: Offer decaf coffees and espresso (damn that was bad) The bathroom needs to catch up with the rest of the ambience of the restaurant. Went for Saturday lunch and had to wait 50 minutes. Yelp texted the table was ready and it took an additional 20 minutes, but the food was well worth the wait. The chicken and waffles are the best item on the menu. Fried and seasoned perfectly and paired with a nice waffle. One of the best chicken and waffles I've had. The chocolate banana soufflé pancakes were also spectacular. It was everything I wanted in a soufflé pancake--rich, decadent, but not too sweet. However, the matcha soufflé pancake was super underwhelming. The flavors just didn't go well together. Keep matcha out of the soufflé please. The pancakes are good- I liked the original Flipper's pancake w maple cream more than the Matcha Soufflé pancake which was the same pancake only with matcha cream instead. Unless you have a major sweet tooth you don't need to order more than one flavor. Also got the avocado toast which was fine. It was great! I want to start by saying that Flippers serves an excellent breakfast. The food alone is absolutely delicious, and the restaurant's aesthetic is beautiful. Every corner--on both the first and second floors, including the outdoor area--is thoughtfully decorated and well-designed. The service was also amazing. We had a waiter named Andrew, and he was fantastic--always attentive and on top of our needs. Thank you, Andrew, for the great experience and for your patience while my husband and I took our time deciding what to order. My husband had the Flippers Burger, which he really enjoyed. However, it was on the pricier side considering it came with only a small portion of fries. I ordered the Strawberry Soufflé Pancakes, and while they were delicious, the portion was small--just two pancakes--and the $19 price felt a bit steep. My husband also ordered a lemonade that oddly tasted more like orange juice, while I had the Passion Green Tea, which was delicious. Both drinks were $7, which felt fairly priced. The restaurant was very clean, though the bathroom could definitely use a makeover. We didn't make a reservation, but we were still able to join the waitlist, which was great. They texted us when we were close to being called, and again when our table was ready--very convenient. Overall, the service was excellent, the atmosphere was beautiful, and the food was great. Best part were the french fries which were very crunchy and well fried, and the truffle sauce was good. The dressing on the tiny salad was also good. I stumbled across Flipper's while visiting Soho and was pleasantly surprised by the restaurant! The soufflé pancakes were so tasty, the restaurant wasn't overly busy and the staff was friendly! I visited Flipper's alone around 12:30 p.m. on a Wednesday. All of the restaurant's seating is upstairs, providing a great view of the neighborhood. I ordered a honey lemonade and order of fruit (strawberry, blueberry and banana) soufflé pancakes. The menu informs you that it could take up to 20 minutes for an order of pancakes since they are made special, but I don't think I waited even 15 minutes for mine. It's worth nothing that the restaurant was a bit slower when I visited though. The honey lemonade was so good and refreshing and I'm going to have to try making something similar back home! The pancakes were light and fluffy and despite a hefty helping, they weren't overbearing! I left feeling full but not like I stuffed myself! The vibe of the restaurant was beautiful! For food, the Souffle Pancakes were a highlight. The Matcha & Red Bean was delicious - fluffy and not to sweet, it also came with syrup on the side - The Fresh Fruit pancakes were good, but the matcha was better. We also had the hash brown (3 pieces) nothing special. Our only disappointment was the Brussels sprouts with bacon, unfortunately, they were far too salty for our liking.
