At the last minute our plans for 4th of July dinner changed and I needed a couple of pizzas! Flippin Pizza was close to us and had good reviews. But I had no idea what to order. We went in to talk to them and make sure they would still be open at 6:00. A very nice lady helped us (I should have gotten her name) and we had a good time laughing about needing a man's pizza (we chose the Tiboro). And for the ladies pizza (half Whitestone and 1/2 Tomato garlic basil). The pizza was ready at the time we requested. Everyone loved the pizza and the party was saved. The pizza is hand tossed thin crust. They offer gluten free and cauliflower crusts. There are several specialty pizzas or you can create your own. They also sell pizza by the slice and they offer wings with several different types of sauce. We will be back! read more

Initial impression from the outside having never been to flippin, was that it was a chain with the ads in the window. Walking inside it was unremarkable, walls were bare and the dark motif was not really clean. The young man behind the register was nice but didn't say anything after I told him it was my first visit. I ordered a whole pie, pepperoni and jalapeno. Gave a cash tip after paying with cc. The guys working were active, mostly phone orders. One other customer in the store with me. They acknowledged that I was waiting told me about 20 mins. I strolled over to the Albertsons to kill time, came back and they acknowledged that I was waiting again. Got my pie, came home to feed the fam. The pie was maybe a 4/10, sauce ranked high, but was over sauced at point causing the bottom crust to open up in a couple spots. Cheese was extremely sparse, never a stringy bite on any slice. Pep was quality but not crispy on top at all, that extra charred flavor was missing. $30 and change for the pie. $3 cash tip. Came by after a fishing trip to grab a couple slices and a drink, and it ended up being a great stop. Two slices and a drink came out to a really reasonable $11.58, which felt like a solid deal. After eating it, I had to grab one more slice of pizza! The service was fast and friendly, and they even brought the pizza out to the table which was a nice touch. The space itself is pretty roomy with a few tables and two island counters with bar stools, so there's plenty of spots to sit and enjoy your food. Great pizza, quick service, and good prices. Ended up at Flippin Pizza tonight, honestly because Truly apparently ran out of pizza dough so were closed!!! We got a gluten free pizza which used cauliflower crust and it was quite good! My slice of cheese and pepperoni were okay. I think if I had ordered a whole pie it would have been more fresh, but slices get put back in the oven so it was a bit dry. We also got the meatballs and they were yum and cMe with ricotta. The bathroom was very clean and smelled good, and there is parking in a lot. read more

I was looking for a pizza place close to Doheny state beach and found Flippin Pizza. I ordered ahead online and headed to the Albertsons nearby for camping snacks and beverages while I waited for my order. Service was great, and the person I assumed was the manager offered me a free drink while I waited! They have peppers, Parmesan, and napkins to grab on your way out. So I ordered an 18" half Bronx, and half Triboro, with ricotta cheese as an add on since I've been on a ricotta cheese kick lately. I also ordered lemon pepper wings. Everything was amazing! One slice was enough to get me full.. but since I technically ordered two kinds of pizzas, I had a few more bites extra of the other variety. The wings were exceptionally scrumptious. I like that they have small portions available (I ordered a 4 piece). Definitely coming back and looking forward to trying the garlic knotts next time. read more

Best pizza outside of NY. In the 16 years I've lived in CA, I've searched high and low for a good pizza place. It's a miracle; I finally found one! I've only had the pizzas of various sorts, but, damn, they're good. Thin crust, but not too thin, and it has a perfect chewiness with a light crisp on the bottom. Killer sauce, too!!! I had a cheese calzone made fresh for me. It was do delicious and HUGE! It was so large that the cook sliced it up into three pieces for me. Paired with their marinara sauce = chef's kiss. This place reminded me of my trip to New York last year when I had the NY style pizza. I got the Bronx which is like a combo pizza and it was delicious! I got plain wings (no sauce) and those were tasty and also a good size. I hate when there's too much skin and no meat or the wings are too tiny. Flippin's wings were perfect! Their green salad also had a good balance of toppings with cheese, olives, cucumbers, tomatoes and red onions. I was staying at a hotel and they delivered right to my room. When I saw Flippin' Pizza claiming to offer New York quality pizza...I didn't believe it. Pathetic pizza is the average in So. OC, nobody makes a great pie. Of course, before you can accept this truth you have to know real NY pizza made by Italians on the island...otherwise you are clueless. California style pizza is 10% that of an authentic New York pizza. I know, my Italian wife is from The City and we have enjoyed many truly incredible slices there. But locating that quality duplicated here has been comparable to spotting Bigfoot riding a unicorn. I gave Flippin' a shot but as I watched the pie being built, knew instantly disappointment was in my future. Ya see, the key to making a truly genuine NY style pizza lies in the ingredients. You must have the right type of tomatoes, cheese, and other toppings and well...Flippin' just doesn't. It's just another California pie made using local ingredients. I hate to say it cuz I liked the kids working here...but claiming to be an east coast style pizza kitchen is blatantly false. This is west coast pie all the way and an average version of it at that. Those unfamiliar with exceptional NY pizza won't know but for those with educated palates...save yourself the letdown. Flippin' is not even close to the real thing. I tried this place for the first time a few days ago. We ordered a Hawaiian, pepperoni, and cheese pizza. All three were delicious but the pepperoni was probably the best (and they use mini pepperonis that curl up into little bowls). The crust was thin and crispy and folded nicely like a NY style pizza should. The red pepper they provide is different than what I'm used to, it seemed to be all pepper and no seeds, but it added a nice boost to every bite. Pizza was very good if you like thin NY crisp crust & we all do. I am a New Yorker after all. I had the Bronx, kid had plain cheese and hubby had the buffalo chicken pizza. Had to ask for some blue cheese, but they gave it to us for free and that took his pizza up a notch. Small place, but a fair amount of seating and a fancy fountain drink machine. Garlic knots were cold, but we didn't have a ton of time so I didn't even bother to say anything. Cold garlic knots with hardly any garlic on them are not good, they're hard and flavorless. We like the Flippin pizza in San Marcos and would go back there, but probably wouldn't come here again. Pretty pricey for what we got. And I suppose I could cut the new guy some slack because it looked like he was in training, but quality control is definitely necessary. The workers were all very nice. read more
