This place was amazing! I can't believe I've lived in el monte my whole life and have never been here when I have lived down the street forever! I ordered the french toast and had some of their delicious coffee . Needless to say I will be back for sure! Good food. I was surprised that the food in the Mexican Menu was actually authentic, the chilaquiles verdes were good. The sauce was different not spicy but a good flavor. The beans tasted homemade. I like the effort that went into the food. They used sour cream and queso fresco or cotija. Other places use mozzarella or a variation of melted cheese. I liked and appreciated the authenticity. The coffee could use some work, it wasn't really as busy so the coffee might have been sitting in the pot for a while. We got great service though. Place has been open since 1970 I always passed by this place and never knew it existed. First time here and it was very welcoming and had an old school 80s dinner vibe. Food was great and just what I was looking for when I want breakfast fresh and home made. The service was great I was helped by the owners son I believe. I never write reviews because i feel like what i like is not the same as everyone. With that being said .....This place is over rated.. they only were friendly to the regulars. The food was very disappointing ... I got a waffle but when it was brought to me and I took the first bite and realized it was just pancake mix poured in a waffle machine. My eggs were very undercooked. I didn't know the breakfast sausage was maple sausage and it killed the flavor of the rest of my food. My bf is not picky eater at all and he couldn't even eat half his food. He got an omelet and it too was under cooked. I will not be back. read more

I've been coming to this place for years! It's a mom and pops cafe but it isn't what it used to be as far as the food is concerned. Even though they extended the restaurant, the food quality has gone down. It seems to be more prepackaged/ frozen food being served rather than the feeling of having a home cooked meal. Tried Flo's for breakfast today ... it's okay and since El Monte has limited dining options, it's a decent breakfast option. Pros: inexpensive, big potions and very friendly wait staff. Cons: big portions doesn't necessarily mean tasty, in fact my Monterey omelette was rather bland and needed their salsa and pepper. For a Sat morning at 9 am there were empty tables so maybe not a good omen? Try for yourself. read more

Cute little mom and pop coffee shop located in a pretty much abandoned plaza. It has a hometown feel and there is absolutely nothing pizzazz-y about the decor and ambiance. Just a simple place with good simple breakfast. I've been coming here since high school and it never disappoints. I really like their corned beef hash here because it's not overly salty like other places. The customers seem to be quite regular since they joke around with the staffs. The food itself was pretty standard in terms of the style. Great breakfast place around the corner from my parents home. They are clean and serve basic plus yummy breakfast dishes but I love eat the tots the most haha. It really nice to have a homely atmosphere in this place and every time I go it's not to crowded but I have a feeling their going to start getting crowded after all the awesome reviews! Got the French toast combo and it was delicious! The French toast is better than many other diners where I've had it. Service was friendly. Parking is easy as it's in a plaza. I would definitely come here again. Not sure if it gets crowded at peak hours but when I went there were only a few other tables occupied since it was a late weekday brunch. read more

Love this place. I've lived in El Monte almost my entire life, and this is the one place that makes me feel right at home. I come here with my buddies every once in a while when we're all home on the weekend for their amazing breakfast burritos (eggs, ham, bacon, and beans wrapped in a flour tortilla with nacho cheese and salsa on top with a side of your choice of potatoes). We come often enough so that one of the waitresses knows what we come for. The food in general is definitely satisfying, but won't blow your mind. The restaurant is really small, only a few tables and a counter. It's the kind of place where you'll run into old high school friends and get a chance to catch up a bit.
