I had an awesome experience here tonight. I have been wanting to come here for a long time and am so glad to finally try it. I sat at the bar and the whole feel is very intimate. It's a small space with special service. Seating at the bar is great because it's like being right there in the kitchen. It does get a little hot, but I bet winter here is cozy. The bread is literally the best bread I've ever had the pleasure of eating in my life. It MELTS in your mouth. It's fresh made everyday. The gnocchi is also this way-melty. It's so fresh and delicious. The pork meatballs: wonderful, perfect. Squid ink pasta: amazing, hint of spicy, hint of mint. And the burrata was light and airy. Flourshop is a perfect place for a date night or to catch up with a small group. The restaurant doesn't seat more than 40, many being bar seats. However, if you're like me. The open kitchen bar seats are the best ever! The menu can be a little pricy, but they provide high quality food. The fresh pasta are rolled in front of you. Something as simple as the "Coal Roasted Acorn Squash" over their toast will knock your socks off. (And honestly, the free bread is amazing too! Having been a fan of Customshop on Elizabeth Ave in Charlotte for years, I had fully intended on trying its sister restaurant, Flour Shop, since it opened in Charlotte's Park Road Shopping Center in early 2018. Well, suffice it to say, I didn't hop right in and go and, the next thing I knew, it was Covid-19 time and the beginning of my 2+ years at home. Well, we've recently started venturing forth and one of the first places we went was Flour Shop. All I can say is that I wished I had gone there much, much earlier. My wife and I went with to Flour Shop with another couple on May 12th of 2022 and, after tasting the glorious food and savoring the experience, I can only wish I had gone earlier. But, no worries, I will be going back again... and again... and again. After being seated and given some time to peruse the cocktail and wine menus, we ordered four cocktails (two from their specialty cocktail list. Without exception, they were well made and appropriately sized and classically presented. Charles brought out some breads of different varieties, sitting on a plate with just a thin sheen of well flavored and spiced olive oil - not enough to result in soggy bread; but, absolutely perfect for added a bit more flavor for the breads. After a while spent sipping and chatting a bit, we ordered a couple of appetizers to share for the table. When questioned about whether two appetizers would be sufficient for sharing, our waiter, Charles, was forthright in answering that two should be sufficient and described the quantity of items in each appetizer. We ordered fried oysters (6) with fresh horseradish aioli and chorizo, herb, potato croquettes (4) with peppercorn aioli. Both appetizers were presented artistically and were quite magnificent. Once we had almost finished the appetizers, Charles inquired about our main dish selections. I ordered the squid ink linguini, chorizo, Stone Carolina shrimp, tomato and jalapeno. The other dishes tried were the ricotta gnocchi and Cheshire pork meatballs; the rigatoni, Joyce Farms beef & pork Bolognese; and the dry aged duck breast, apple & orange mostarda, golden raisins & demi. We also ordered glasses of wine with dinner, each of which were delightful and Charles' suggestions were spot on. Without question, the squid ink linguini was, by far, the best version of that dish I have ever enjoyed. The pasta was cooked perfectly and the flavor (and a little bit of heat) lingered pleasantly. The shrimp were also cooked to perfecting and were a perfect counterpoint to the pasta. Each of the other three entrees received similar kudos from the other diners. As with everything before, presentation was superb. As for the quantity, each meal was a generous portion, yet easy to finish without being "stuffed" or wanting for a bit more. As we ate, more bread was brought out - perfect for wiping up any sauce left over from our entrees. There was but one dessert offering - a chocolate brownie with vanilla ice cream and a butterscotch sauce. The brownie was well sized, soft and flavorful; but the vanilla ice cream was even better - like tasing a flavored cloud - truly delicious. With dessert, we had French press coffee which was excellent and we were offered refills, which we did not require. Kudos to the owners, the bar staff, the kitchen staff; and, especially to Charles for providing such exquisite food and excellent service. A long, lingering, unrushed dinner with both excellent food and service is a rarity. To say that the evening was a success would be an understatement. Let's talk about the bread. My god the bread. Perfectly baked. Quality olive oil. Just the right amount of spice. And endless. Like Olive Garden breadsticks only nothing at all like Olive Garden breadsticks....ya feel me? The burrata was nicely chilled, soft, and sitting on top of an ever-so-slightly charred piece of bread.... did I mention the bread? The carpaccio is well presented and offset by a - choke choke - pile of shaved horseradish. Buyer beware. Amazing, just be careful. Fresh. Fresh. Fresh. We opted to share the pasta dish. Lemon fettuccine with mussels and ginger sausage. It took a REALLY long time to come out after the apps, and missed the mark. Flavor just wasn't there, at least for us. Excellent service and fantastic food! I love the open kitchen and aromas. The mushrooms were rich Smokey and had a balanced amount of cheese. I visited flourshop when it opened back in 2017. It was good, but not my favorite back then. Let me tell you, my visit last night changed that perspective 100%. Everything at this restaurant was phenomenal. From the staff, to the drinks, to the food, to the ambiance, everything was fantastic. I love that they have an open kitchen and you can see the preparation of the meals. Whenever you come and visit, make sure you try the Burrata. You will regret it if you don't try this. Honestly wanted to get another order cause one wasn't enough lol. They bring out fresh focaccia which is to die for. I then ordered the lemon ricotta ravioli and those were an excellent choice. I was gonna do the rigatoni at first and then the waiter recommended these and definitely the best. We weren't sure if we had room for desert, but boy was it worth making room for that carrot cake. To be honest, I wish I could have tried all the dessert because they all sounded fantastic. Without being exaggerating, this carrot cake was out of this world. The wine I paired my meal with was fantastic. It took me back in time to my trip to Napa, CA. They have a good wine list if you like wine. This restaurant thinks that they are All that but they really are not. The food is inconsistent and it is clear they don't put care into every dish they serve to their paying customers. Definitely in love with the fresh pasta, however there are a few things I wish I could change. For instance, the Bolognese sauce that came with the rigatoni was one of the best I've had, however I wish I could have put that delicious sauce on my squid ink linguine. The squid ink linguine was very good, I thought the sauce was OK and the shrimp was not required but still a good dish overall. For drinks we ordered the rosewater spritz and the Spicy StrawberryPaloma. I wasn't in love with the spritz but the Paloma did not disappoint. Great intimate Italian restaurant in Park Road shopping center. The menu has clearly been thought through as almost everything on it draws in your attentions we started with the Burrata, Dates, and Mushrooms. The burrata is delicious and soft with an herby pesto sauce that's drizzled over the cheese and toast. The plate is beautifully put together! The mushrooms are also delicious and worth getting. The dates are good and creative (wrapped in bacon and stuffed with blue cheese) but if you don't like blue cheese, then I'd pass on these. the bread in the beginning is also warm and covered in olive oil. The rest of the menu is divided into pasta and main courses, all of which look great. The pasta clearly tastes fresh and handmade. I had the spicy meatballs with bucatini and it was the perfect portion to complement the small plates that we started with. Members of my group also had the hangar steak which was perfectly cooked and the linguini with mussels and sausage. Overall, the pasta itself sticks out the most from the pasta plates. The cocktails were also fantastic and they have their own unique IPA brewed by Sycamore. The only reason for the 4 stars as opposed to 5 is that we were very early in the night and our food still took quite a long time. Also, although meant for a special night out, you still might be a little disappointed by the price points on the menu for what you're getting. Compared to other nice charlotte restaurants, the prices should probably be a few dollars lower here. Still a great night out though and lots of great and creative dishes! read more

We tried The Flour Shop for the first time and it was great! We made a reservation and were seated right away. The server was quick and knowledgeable about menu items. I got the squid ink pasta and a cocktail. Both were delicious. We will definitely be back! One thing I would note is that our reservation was at 7pm on a Friday and the parking was not ideal. I had to circle the lot multiple times to find a spot. I would recommend taking an Uber if you're coming at a popular time! read more

I have never written a review but I felt the need to after last nights experience. It was busy and dark in the restaurant so the fact that I saw 3 cockroaches in the dark leads me to believe there were probably even more with the lights on. If you like to sit under a leaky AC pipe then this is the restaurant for YOU. We asked to move. We asked to switch to the empty table next to us and the "manager" Kayla said "then that table would get wet". Would you like the patio?? Our jaws dropped with the stupidity of that comment. We said no thank you. Asked again why can't we move. Got the same response and gave her the same response of No thank you firmly. We don't want to sit out in the muggy weather. (And low and behold it down poured with torrential rain haha) Our server comes by and we said hi and we aren't doing great we are getting dripped on. He walks off and passes us off to another server . She was pleasant. So we decided to move our table out of the drip on our own. We scooted inch by inch just to get out of the drip zone. Next table comes in later on and they apologize to them that we were so close and gives them free food..LOL. Fast forward a few days later I call to ask for the manager and she says we were disrespectful and that I'm being disrespectful now. This girl has zero clue what disrespectful is. Wake up Kayla. Get a life you aint all that girl. Your restaurant was rude and didn't give a crap my friend was getting wet nor did anything to fix it but offer us the patio that was about to be drenched on. Np Kayla I no longer need to ever visit Flourshop. Nor will I ever send anyone I know there. I'll spend my money at Ever Andalo. Which is 5 million times better . DELICIOUS! The pasta is soo fresh and yummy. Portions are just right so you feel satisfied, but not stuffed. I was seeing so many people talk about this place on Instagram so I had to test it out myself and I was not disappointed! I had the ricotta gnocchi with pork meatballs and let me tell you - mouthwatering! I recommend getting a reservation because they do tend to be quite busy, we got lucky and snagged a table outside. Everything is just so fresh. Even their drinks are made with house made syrups. The hibiscus ginger was so light and airy perfectly refreshing for a nice summer day. We walked in and sat at the bar and were immediately brought menus by the host and greeted by the bar staff and drink orders taken. All of the staff we sounded work were nice and focused. Chairs at bar swivel which is helpful. Hooks under the bar for purses. Decor is simple, open kitchen with central bar all around it and tables around the windows. I think there is a patio on the side but it was raining so not sure. Close quarters, you can call it intimate if you like, but it's not romantic...the noise level is through the roof. Not sure why they even have background music.... You only hear the bass once in a while. . Just turn it off and maybe it will be a little quieter... Or add some sound proofing. I got a little bit of a headache. I would think twice about going back just based on how loud it is. The bar seating is ample (1st come) and good spots to watch the kitchen staff bring together all the plates from apps to wood-fired grill to stove to plating and garnish. Great ventilation system and the kitchen itself is quiet. The drink menu is interesting without being annoying. Wine menu is solid but of course bottle pricing is ridiculous. Menu is short which isn't a bad thing. The Butternut Squash app was good and I do like that they allow the flavors to shine... But a little seasoning or extra spritz of additional flavor in that would have been nice. On the pasta choices it seems the first two items after the name are the sauce with the third thing being a feature of the dish... For example; lamb/oxtail is a reduction sauce - no meat, the mushrooms are the feature (after the pasta). And it was delish! Loved the lemon pasta with it, but the lady next to me thought the lemon was a bit much. Shrimp special was good, but again just a little extra seasoning... Shrimp were slightly over but still a good dish. I wanted to get the king crab squid ink but they couldn't leave out the chili peppers which I can't have... so the sauces are pre-made. Portions are perfect. I was just getting full with one or two bites left, but that's also why I think it's fairly pricey for what you get. Speaking of pasta... How can you go wrong with fresh pressed/cut pasta? I do like being able to see it made along with watching the whole kitchen. I wonder how it is for the staff though...I guess they get to watch us too! I saw the cookies at the end of the bar and asked what they were... The bartender said Snicker doodle but that's the only sweet they have. Based on the pricing of the wine/food they should probably just bring you one at the end of the meal as a treat. You know... My partner requested delicious pasta for her birthday meal this year, so after some research I decided to take her to Flourshop! What a super cute restaurant. It was a great date night spot and the open kitchen added to the ambience. I was a little annoyed I couldn't make reservations but we had no problem getting a table on a Wednesday at 9pm- I imagine it's very different during traditional dinner hours. Our server was wonderfully attentive and knew the menu well. We started with two of the signature cocktails- Barrel Aged Black Manhattan and Kirsch and Clove Old Fashioned, both were delicious! For dinner we had Squid Ink Linguine a la Chitarra and Bucatini. Both were tasty! The bread that was served was really tasty too! The portions were perfect, I ate so much bread I had pasta take with me. We were too full for dessert but our server was kind enough to give us one of their oatmeal cookies to-go sense we were celebrating a birthday. It was kind. I don't know that I'd be in a hurry to come back, but I'd come back. read more

There is no shortage of staff or yummy cocktails. Some friends and I were going to DOT DOT DOT and they gave us an hour wait to get in. We headed over to the Flour Shop to pre-game and well, it became our game. We didn't even go to DOT DOT DOT because we had such a great time at the Flour Shop. I had two of their custom cocktails... the Blackberry cocktail was my favorite!! There were a lot of things happening in the kitchen from pasta making to wood burning oven cooking. It was such a spectacular sight to behold. I feel like there were a few guys behind the bar who were not dressed in the same style as everyone else, which indicated to me they were probably owners and were setting them apart from everyone else, or someone dropped the ball and left their staff uniform at home. Ha. Either way, everyone was super nice and it was very easy to get a drink at while standing at the bar. The lighting and decor was simply phenomenal. It really set the mood for a great night. It wasn't too noisy that we couldn't speak to each other but the music playing in the background was a nice touch. We didn't bother with food, we drank our calories. Yum yum! I'd say the extreme majority of patrons at this establishment were dressed to impress, so don't show up in jeans and a ratty t-shirt and expect to fit in. Bathroom was clean and accessible. Parking could be a bit of a challenge, but you can always park in the front of the plaza and walk through the garden cut-through by hardware store. Check it out stat! read more

Sorry to say but my dinner was nothing special. The beef carpaccio was nice, well marbled and the shaved horseradish a good touch. Bacon wrapped figs, good but not juicy, a bit over cooked .... my wife's bib salad was excellent, great flavors, fresh. My main, scallops and pork belly, the scallops were cooked very well but the pork belly was overdone in my opinion, I love pork belly that melts in your mouth not that get a crispy bacon top. And the portion seamed small. The succotash begins were over cooked and greasy. Bread pudding interesting . My main disappointment was that the food at the Custom Shop seems so inspired and this did not. It was not at al a bad dinner, just not special. Today I picked up a wonderful take out dinner, these are indeed strange times and if you can afford it support our local restaurants. We have been dining at Flourshop since they first opened. Big sister resto Customshop was always our favorite but Flourshop was a close second (owner/chef Trey Wilson more recently sold Customshop). I have to say we were underwhelmed by our most recent dining experience. Cocktails and wine were good. Croquettes were good, but the mushroom tartine was not good. The wild mushrooms that topped the toasts were extremely tough and nearly impossible to bite into. The deckle was cooked perfectly and tasty, but the pastas were luke warm. My butternut squash ravioli w/ mushrooms, walnuts and sage was such a disappointment. Too cool in temperature, ravioli were bland and the sauce was a watery pool that didn't cling to the ravioli at all. The same tough mushrooms from the tartine app were atop the ravioli. The cavatelli and short rib was tasty and well-balanced. The gnocchi was average. At over $300 for the meal, we left disappointed. read more

This restaurant should seriously consider a re-name to FOUL SHOP or STANK SHACK. After reading the glowing reviews of Flour Shop, we were excited to try it. When we first walked in the door it was impossible to tell staff from guests and after eating there I think maybe some guests wandered into the kitchen and started cooking because this food was missing the basics like salt and flavor. We were greeted by a cheery young lady who poured us water. Now there's no easy way to say this, and I know everyone is different, but the woman who poored us water and who continued to set tables and walk around smelled so awful, we were about to stand up and leave. If your restaurant employees don't practice basic hygiene, talk to them about it. Because as a customer, I lost my appetite as soon as we sat down. If you don't drink alcohol, this restaurant has nothing for you. We asked for Coke, she said they have soda water and ginger beer. My husband's ginger beer came.he tried it and said it was awful. I tried it and it was the spiciest ginger beer I have ever tasted. I immediately told the waitress and she took it away after arguing with me that that's how ginger beer tastes. As a bartender whose made her fair share of Moscow mules, I can tell you right now, it's not a spicy drink girl. After ordering, we got some focaccia bread topped on a plate of oil and pepper. As soon as I picked a piece up I was doused in oil. Who does this? Put the bread on the side. Come. On. We order an appetizer of the ham croquettes, and honestly they were the highlight. If I came in and ordered just that, I'd have a different opinion. As far as entrees go, I had the duck with brussel sprouts and while the flavor was ok, the cook on the duck wasn't right as the fat wasn't rendered properly. No one wants to eat fatty duck. My husband had the rigatoni. He was so looking forward to some good homemade pasta and while it might have been homemade that doesn't mean it was good. It was beyond al dente, more like double dente. The pasta itself also lacked any discernable flavor, as if the customer cooking the pasta didn't know to salt the water before cooking it. The bolognese lacked flavor and salt. It reminded me of taco Bell meat, except taco Bell meat has flavor. When the bill came, the waitress didn't take off the ginger beer that we didn't drink. So that $3 soda came out of her tip. Our bill was 76$ and after she took our card she gave us a slip to sign for 117$. She ran out credit card on the wrong bill. Worst service I've ever had. Flour shop either has an absent owner, or they don't care that they are serving god awful food with untrained staff. Also if someone doesn't like something and they don't eat or drink it, you take it off the bill. That's restaurant etiquette 101. Flour shop should be ashamed. read more

My ladies all took me here last Wednesday (3/26) for a belated birthday dinner. I had been looking forward to it for a while! I started with the Mendicant which was a wonderful cocktail, but eventually moved on to the Spiced Manhattan which was EXCELLENT (and just the right amount of sweet and spicy and aromatic!!)!! The cocktails are absolutely perfect! As there were six of us we tried and shared SO much food... the butter service is a delight and a wonderful way to eat more bread (if you're into that sort of thing, we are), the smoked trout, fresh dates, and burrata were also gobbled up... I cannot say enough good things about the freshness and quality of the food served here. The presentation is simple and elegant, and every bite is heavenly!! I think we each had a pasta... I got to try the Pappardelle as well as the Orecchiette... both were delicious. The Orecchiette had a much gamier and meatier flavor as the braised lamb completely took over the dish. It was bold and powerful. The Pappardelle was a much softer and lighter dish (flavor-wise), and the pasta was so fresh and airy it melted in my mouth! Beyond the food, which was stellar, the staff was knowledgeable and friendly... as a birthday treat I was given a lovely chocolate mousse with shortbread... It was love at first bite! Have been to the sister store, Customshop, and absolutely loved it! So was excited to try this restaurant. We went on a Thursday night around 6. Was not busy, at all. The menu is small, but the wine list is extensive. We got the fried oysters and I felt they were too salty, and not fried enough. I also got their salad, and if you like bitter lettuce it is definitely for you but I felt the lettuce (bitterness) was overpowering. For dinner I ordered the spinach pasta. The sauce was pretty sweet, and I was surprised - it has sherry but usually that is dry and not sweet. The portion sizes seem small for the price, but it is local food so that might effect the prices. Not really "kid" friendly, so my 3 year old had limited options. What a shame...we have long come to Flourshop for a nice dinner out but this visit will be our last. We arrived a little early for our reservation and we're told we'd have to wait outside until our table became available. Same hostess bounced us to a bar seat which wasn't ideal but fine. Bar staff aren't wait staff and they were slammed. We managed to get one drink, had to flag someone down 15 minutes later to get a menu, another 10 to order our meal. Couldn't even get a refill of our water let alone a second cocktail. We gave up trying to order a bottle of wine and by then we couldn't even be bothered to order dessert. Food was fine, but we can eat elsewhere in this town for the same amount of money with better service. Disappointing. read more

Really really disappointing, particularly for the price. Left hungry and not feeling all that great. Super small portion of pasta for $30; sauce was basically all the leftover grease from cooking out the sausage. Served was pleasant, but drinks took forever in a restaurant that wasn't close to full and had incredibly small pours. Odd ambiance - we had a 7:45 reservation and they literally turned the lights up in the restaurant a little after 9 to chase people out of the place - like a bar at closing time. The food was pretty good especially the appetizers but the service was horrific. We even had the manager waiting on us and it was a mess. The meal took almost 3 hours and was slow and just a mess. The apps were great. The bread and butter we loved along with the croquettes. The burrata was also pretty good. Mains were good but not as good. We tried 3 pastas, the duck and the pork. We also had two desserts, the cookies were the best. Again all in all pretty good food. Would go back and sit at the bar and do wine and apps. But I hope they get their service and flow in order! read more
