I needed to find a healthy eatery in Del Mar with outdoor seating to see my friends for lunch. We tried Flower Child for the first time and loved it! It's cute, casual and healthy. The price was reasonable, especially for the quality of the food. We can't wait to go back! We found our new favorite place where we would like to get together. The menu has a good variety of healthy options with simple, healthy and flavorful vegetarian (and some meat) ingredients. With my diet and trying to eat healthy, usually I feel limited looking at the restaurants' menus when I go out but the menu here had some great options for me. I had Chopped Vegetable Salad with Salmon ($20) The salad was fresh, and the miso lemon vinaigrette was delicious with the salad and the salmon as well. The salmon was a good cut and cooked perfectly. I was completely happy with the food! The service was nice and friendly at the counter. The food came out quickly. The tables were clean. This place is bigger than it looks from outside. It has a large downstairs seating that leads to a cozy courtyard patio. The parking was easy since I could park in the mall parking lot, but I can imagine it could be tough depending on the time of the day. It seems they have extra garage parking. read more

A reliable spot to get fresh healthy eats! Having gone to the AZ locations pretty regularly, this one seemed bigger and brighter inside. And maybe more options even? Salads were fresh and I loooved sampling my friends' dishes (chicken enchilada bowl and chicken kabob skewers). Really appreciative of the service though! Lines got busyyy once it hit noon on a Sunday and when the server came to drop off our items, he was so lovely to take additional last minute drink requests separately. Mmmm! Got one of the tastiest and best value meals from here that I have gotten. I got the salmon plate which comes with a choice of two sides. Today I picked the maple glazed squash, and the kale salad. The salmon is a nice sized portion of plain grilled salmon. It was nice and moist even if it did not have a sauce. The Maple glazed squash was extremely delicious. There were two kinds, I think butternut cubed, and then half of a mini acorn squash. And I am already full, but I still have this little side kale salad with shredded zucchini, Parmesan, and breadcrumbs, which I'll save for tomorrow. The service was very quick and friendly. The food was fresh and out in 10 minutes. This is a no frills casual dining option with a very peaceful ambience in the Del Mar Flower Hill Promenade. Bagging for delivery is getting sloppy and careless. They didn't close lids on containers, and put "soups" in the bag on their side. Everything leaked and ruined the meal. Also, bag was so soaked it fell apart. Slimy liquid leaked all over the living room floor. read more

Fun fact: Flower Child in in the Flower Promenade in Del Mar. Flower power! - Really enjoy this fast-casual place for healthy but scrumptious eats. It's a nice balance between healthy and unhealthy food well, delectable depending what you might get ( cookie, sangria, max and cheese). The great: the mac and cheese is sooooo gooood and gluten free. It has different cheeses mixed it and the twisty noodles make it fun. So good. The proteins I've tried including steak, chicken, and tofu have been really good. I really like how they periodically release seasonal or new items as well. I've also tried the GLO bowl which had sweet potato noodles and that was DELISH. The could be improved: food tends to be on the colder less warm side. Not sure if it's because food is sitting out for a while vs made to order. Also for being healthy, wish they would cook their Mediterranean bowl and other items in olive oil and not other oils as those are inflammatory. I love Flower Child Del Mar and have been a weekly customer for several years. I love the Kale salad. I love the kids Chicken meal with broccoli because the broccoli isn't grilled. I love to order the side vegetables. The staff is both friendly and efficient. The manager is on top of the operation. I've had a recent concern that makes me wonder if the new owners in 2019 (The Cheesecake Factory) are starting to influence the food here. Lately, the steak on the Kale salad has been tough/chewy with visible fat on the edges that I had to cut off and they seem to have changed the recipe for my favorite cookie on planet earth --the Chocolate Chip Cashew cookie--it tastes more sugary and the shape of the cookie has changed (used to be large and very flat--now smaller and not flat). I ate two cookies per day, so I think I know when something has changed and not for the better. I don't want them to change anything!! It was all perfect!! read more

Flower Child is one of the healthier options out there minus all the cheese they add in almost everything. I love them but a lot of the times they are out of certain sides and sauces. Been here a few times and like to try different things each time I come, the steak is on the tougher chewier side and the Chicken Yakisoba Noodles are very salty. The vegan chocolate pudding is to die for, and the wraps are pretty good, I had the Bird is the Word and sub the cheese for avo which seemed to be no problem other then when I got it I only got a small sliver of avo on top and that's was it. The broccoli is very good even without the cheese and the mashed potatoes are ok but nothing to rave over. They are on the pricer side so be prepared to spend some money. Parking is terrible and your lucky to find one if you can, inside is very nice and plenty of room for families. read more

Tons of parking outside as well as a parking deck too so no need to worry about Del Mar business getting in the way. This place is a casual-fast restaurant meaning you place your order at the cashier at the front, they'll give you a number for your table, and then bring your food out. Employees are super nice and love to talk about their favorite dishes on the menu. Had a Father & daughter night at this place tonight & while we were ordering I greeted a man behind the counter. I didn't really see what he was doing but I believe he was bagging an order. Had a wonderful time with my daughter & as we were leaving I saw the man again & as I shook his hand & introduced myself to say goodbye he asked if we would like any dessert. I replied, "Oh no. We're so full." Well, he asked me to wait, went to the counter, & handed me a handful of desserts. I was thinking, "What did I do to deserve those?" He introduced himself as the night chef & he was being thankful for me asking him how he was doing. I thanked him & told him that he blessed us tonight & left with joy in my heart. My walk with God had taught me to greet everyone with sincerity & a smile because we never know what someone is going through & sometimes our simple greeting or "hi" can change people's heart, attitude, or lives. And tonight, my simple greeting touched the chef's heart & reciprocated with kindness. Great for groups- Large tables and we had children with our group and they were able to play on the turf outside the downstairs area while we were waiting for our food. I ordered the turkey and avocado salad with steak (I like protein) which was absolutely delicious. The protein made it extra filling. A sliced hard boiled egg would have elevated it perfectly so a note to myself to add that next time if it's an option. Lots of healthy options to choose from.
