We loved Flowerchild when we had it in Austin and we're so sad they didn't have any locations in the DFW area. A year or so later they came to Dallas and then they finally made their way over to Fort Worth. The atmosphere is SOOO welcoming and it is just a vibe. They have free water outside which I think is really cool. The Mother Earth bowl is DELISH and the avocado toast is a fav too. It's good/healthy food without feeling bad about what you are eating. Healthy eating? Unequivocally yes! A few years ago I was admiring posts of healthier food establishments. Mostly out of California. I kept wondering why these types of places are rare in North Texas. I was thinking,I would probably eat at a place a time or two per month thereby offsetting my meat-centric diet! If I could just find one. Then as if by magic, Bam! They are everywhere, even in the former meat capital of Texas! Not far from here are the famous stockyards, where for a century, cattle were driven to market. Someone told me to check out this place and I really liked it. The decor in the restaurant is really nice and the staff are very friendly. You order in line and then they bring the food to you. You get drinks yourself and they have water out which is nice if you're someone who drinks a lot like me. I like that this place has different options you wouldn't be able to find anywhere else. So this was my first time eating at this place. I would give this place 3 stars if it was based on the prices because it is super pricey. I do understand that of food is pricey, y po ue getting good quality ingredients. Walking in to order was kind of confusing. They dont have a sign saying order here or anything like that. I got a grilled salmon with there gluten free mac and cheese and there sweet potato fries. The salmon was a smaller piece of salmon thank expected for the price I paid for it. Tasty but not small. The gluten free mac and cheese wasn't that bad. More flavor than thought it was going to have. Then there sweet potato fries. Mmm. I loved there sweet potato fries. Best part of my meal. We also got a chili queso with vegan chorizo and it was super good. I would definitely get it again. I got there black berry black tea. It comes unsweet and adding sugar doesnt do much because of it's already cold tea and it won't dissolve. The tea was good without the sugar though. The ambiance in the place was also super chill. You really will feel like a flower child here... it's all so bright with fresh greenery and blooms, high ceilings, big windows, a ton of natural light, and a beautiful health-conscious menu with a plethora of delicious options that'll speak to you even if you're not into the whole healthy eating, gluten free, vegan, vegetarian, sugar free, paleo, whatever-else scene. The food here is GOOD and gorgeous, and they have beer and wine on the menu. Today they even had 2 flavors of sangria.. Obviously I went with a glass of sauvignon blanc (they also have chardonnay, a couple reds, and a rose right now) to go with my crushed avocado toast which was $7.50 (on the "small plates" menu), and topped with a soft egg, black sesame, and white cheddar. Um.... extremely yummy. I love a soft boiled egg!! There was also plenty of seasoning on this dish. The black sesame not only looked cool but added needed texture and a whisper of umami to this simple little meal. In order to make my order gluten free, I was given a soft gf pita all folded up instead of typical toast. It was a little unusual since the dough was really soft and thin (like what you would use for a wrap), so the plate overall was a bit too soft for my taste; I really missed that crunch you look forward to when biting into avocado toast. BUT the flavors were stellar and I honestly wouldn't hesitate to order it again. It's that good! I guess my penchant for avocado toast is the #1 reason I'll never make as much money as my dad... I'm such a millennial! If you haven't been to Flower Child, you've read this far into my review, and you're not a fan of things like avocado toast... WAIT. Don't worry. The menu here is so much more, like legit "meat and potatoes" kind of options, which I absolutely love. You've got starters like soup and hummus and street corn, you've got big beautiful salads, you've got wraps, you've got bowls from "chicken enchilada" to "shrimp pozole" to "forbidden black rice" to asian style noodle bowls. You can add a protein to any bowl or salad and they're so well priced: chicken for $4.25; tofu for $3.25; steak for $5.50 (served medium and its perfect); shrimp for $6.25; or salmon for $6.75. If you want to order an "entree" you simply choose your protein and then pair it with 2 sides, which are all incredible: smashed gold potatoes, gluten free mac and cheese, roasted broccoli, yuzu grilled asparagus, red chile glazed sweet potato, cauliflower risotto, organic brown rice, sweet corn and quinoa, heirloom tomatoes and watermelon (with mint and honey goat cheese, yep), or clementine + watermelon. Doesn't every single side sound so delicious or are you absolutely crazy? One time I ordered steak with yuzu asparagus and smashed potatoes and I was like, "this is a dinner I would make at home for a holiday celebration..." Comforting, familiar but elevated, entirely delicious food. The concept here is pretty much fast casual; you're gonna order and pay at the register upfront (sometimes there's a line, but it does move quickly); you'll be given a number, you find a table, and then they'll bring out your fare. Lunchtime can be pretty busy and hectic near the register, but it's a well-oiled machine; don't let a line deter you from enjoying this fantastic restaurant! read more

I had a great meal last time I was there. This time I had the salmon with the side asparagus w/white beans. The salmon was dry and flavorless, the asparagus w/ white beans was mostly lettuce with a few pieces of asparagus. There was also overcooked yellow squash in it. The flavor was not tasty at all, I couldn't eat it. Fruit was my other side. It was almost all pineapple, a few pieces of oranges and one half of a grape. Some people might like a bowl of pineapple but I can only take a little of it. read more

I eat at Flower Child at least twice a week and it's probably my favorite restaurant in Fort worth. Every dish is delicious. The reason I am not giving 5/5 is because lately dishes have not been consistent with expectations. My past few avocado toasts have been burned - toast is all the way black! See photo. Flower Child - on University a little North of TCU. I go here a lot - 2 or 3 times a week. Tonight, I ordered the steak (it's a 3.5 oz. sliced-up serving), sweet potato fries, and cauliflower risotto. It took a long time to get my food. Finally, a guy came out of the kitchen area and explained that the fries were causing a back-up or something. I said okay, figured they were just busy. A few minutes later, my dinner was brought to the table with the fries on a separate plate like usual. I put a finger on the fries and they were hot. Great! I put a finger on the steak and it was cold. Didn't even feel luke-warm or room temperature. I assumed that it sat waiting for the fries to be ready. I immediately carried my plate to the kitchen and before I could ask for a manager, an employee approached. She seemed like she was the manager. I asked her if she could warm up my steak. She took my plate and I was back at my seat for about 30 seconds when another employee arrived with a new plate. All seemed okay - it was a new plate with a new serving of steak and risotto, The steak didn't seem like it was as much quantity as the previous and she explained that it was 3.5 ounces, their normal serving. She asked me if I want a little more and I declined. I started eating and noticed that the fries were over cooked, had a stale and rubbery texture, and a lot were burned badly. I ate the steak, most of the risotto and about a third of the fries before I gave up. I usually clean my plate and am known for someone that will eat anything. When I got up to leave, I went back toward the kitchen and asked for the manager. I was told she was in a back room and it would be a minute. At that very moment, a lady walked up. I asked if she was the manager and she said she was "one of them." I explained that I was a frequent customer and didn't have a good experience and gave her feedback about my meal and the service. I told her that I didn't want anything, just wanted to let her know about the experience. I realized that she was the one that brought my dinner out the second time. She offered me a serving of steak to-go and I declined and again told her I didn't want anything but to report my experience. She apologized and said they've been having issues with their sweet potato fries and I told her I get them every time I come in and have never had an issue. Somehow, she seemed like she was debating with me and she didn't sound sincere or really care about what I had to say. I told her that I may have to start going to another restaurant close by called HD Supply because they have similar food. And she said she "loved that place!" I thought it was odd that she would say that. Seems like an experienced and seasoned manager wouldn't say that. Anyway. That's my review - I left dissatisfied and still hungry (but that's my fault). I'll go back sometime but I'll take a break from this restaurant for a little while. read more

There are so many things I could say about Flower Child.. Wow! So, I waited a really long time to visit this restaurant. I was so excited for opening day. So much so, that even though I knew what day they were going to open, Hubbs and I kept driving to the restaurant to watch the progress of it before opening day. Well, I am sad to report that, overall, I did not have a pleasant experience. So, initially walking in was great. We visited Flower Child right around the time that they opened-11am, 2nd day of their opening. There were so many people coming in to try out this new and trendy spot. The employees were so nice and sweet. They greeted us, talked with us about meal options, dietary restrictions and all. They were so friendly. I think before we ordered about three different employees asked us if we have ever visited a Flower Child before, welcomed us in, and asked if we had questions. I told each person that we had been waiting for this restaurant to open for awhile an we had never eaten at a Flower Child but had eaten at restaurant with a similar concept and vibe. We ordered at the register. I ordered a shrimp entree with cauliflower "riosotto" and the red chili glazed sweet potatoes as my side. Hubbs ordered the steak entree with yuzu grilled Asparagus and gluten free mac & cheese. We were given an order number and we sat down. Oh and because yall know I love my dessert before my meal, I ordered the lemon pound cake as well. As we waited for our meals, a couple of employees asked if we needed anything and ensured that our meal would be out shortly. The Food: the gluten free lemon pound cake was tasty. It was moist, freshly baked, flavorful, lemony, and not too overwhelmingly sugary or lemony. Hubbs steak was cooked medium well (he usually asks for medium, but I think that they prepare it medium well, because noone asked how he wanted it prepared and cooked). His Asparagus was overcooked, but flavorful. Also, I think that it is important for me to mention that after I found hair in my food ( I will talk about that in a sec), Hubbs said when he started to mix his food around that he also saw hair in his food and did not want to tell me or ruin my experience. So, he just kept on eating, trying to be optimistic an assuming that there was a slight chance that the hair came from his beard ( his beard hair is very course and curly and the only time he sheds is the day of a haircut. Now as you see, in the pictures brotherman is out here looking like he hasn't gotten a haircut since a week and a half ago-so I highly doubt that he was shedding. Plus, the hair in his food looked like the hair in my food. It was not curly). Anywho, my shrimp was cooked perfectly. It had good flavor. The sweet potatoes were really good. The glaze on the sweet potatoes tasted like toasted sesame oil and soy with a hint of brown sugar of some sort of sugar, which added to the flavor. The potatoes were cooked to perfection. The were firm enough to enjoy and soft enough to savor. Also, there was not to many sesame seeds. So, I was able to really enjoy it. Now the "riosotto". It was tasty. It was creamy with a slight hint of coconut flavor. The texture was on point. NOW I SAY ALL OF THIS TO SAY, MY MEAL WAS RUINED THE MINUTE THAT I DISCOVERED A HAIR THAT WAS NOT MINE BURRIED IN MY FOOD (take a look at my pics). I was just eating away, enjoying my meal, then as soon as I continued to eat more I saw hair right in the middle of the food. HOW FREAKING DISGUSTING!!! At this point, Hubbs called the manager over and she made some excuse about the cooks not brushing their apron off and she asked them to brush their apron off a lil more to get rid of hair. The manager asked if I would like them to replace my meal. My stomach was so turned and I was trying not to puke on the table. I said no. So, she took care of my shrimp entree. As she was doing her thing, at this very moment, HUBBS THEN DECIDED TO TELL ME THAT AS HE DUG THROUGH HIS MEAL HE ALSO SAW HAIR IN HIS FOOD, that looked like the same type of hair in my food, BUT HE DECIDED TO BRUSH IT TO THE SIDE AND KEEP EATING BECAUSE HE WANTED TO BE OPTIMISTIC AND NOT RUIN MY EXPERIENCE. What the what. He knows how I feel about hair in food and unsanitary restaurants....I feel something very strongly about it. Now I guess he was okay with eatting a random person's hair, but me on the other hand...I just cannot. Hair has to be addressed. So, I am sure you guys can assume by now that I will not be back to Flower Child. Sad. Back to Dallas to True Food Kitchen when I want a meal that works with my dietary restrictions. read more

Tried this place for the first time this weekend, we just stopped in for a lil snack in between shopping. We got the queso, and the lemon cake and the chocolate pudding! Everything tasted amazing! We were immediately tempted to order more food, however when we asked for more chips for the queso (because the serving of chips they gave with the queso looked like it was just enough chips for one person) they charged for more chips!!!! For me personally that's a huge deterrent, this place is already pricey for a small mostly Togo restaurant. I've never heard of a restaurant charging you when you need more chips for an appetizer!! Maybe it might be okay if you're getting food Togo, and taking it home where you can add things for free if needed. read more

We came in on opening day and it was BUSY! But I cannot say enough good things for how the staff ran the chaos. You would never know it was the first day by how well the staff ran everything. We made the mistake of ordering at the kiosks by the door - we thought it was like how Panera has kiosks that you can order and then have it brought to your table, but the kiosks are just for to go orders and they are put out on the racks to grab to leave. Staff member Rob (who is a trainer from Arizona helping the store open) was super nice and made sure our order was brought to our table and I was really impressed with how kind he was when interacting us even though we basically accidentally cut the line. This is my favorite lunch stop on a warm day in the Fort Worth area after shopping nearby. It has a fresh clean bistro feel, like a more casual version of the Dallas Paradiso vibe. Get in line and order at the counter. I like the pick your protein and 2 sides option. Salmon, GF Mac n cheese, & watermelon salad. The veg specials are always my favorite. I had curry spice roasted cauliflower once, or roasted carrots another time, then another time a side that involved watermelon, tomato, mint, goat cheese, and crunchy chick peas which was mind blowing. No joke, if there is a special side offered; try it. It's really hard to choose between the sides. Also, try the sangria. They will happily pour you a sample. I have always seen 2 available. They are known for having "mostly healthy" food with most of their menu being vegetarian or vegan but having a choice to add chicken or beef. Honestly I love vegetables and I really enjoy eating like this. We'll definitely be back for more. Oh and when you go in, don't be surprised by their odd way of seating you, purring a number on your table, and then you go get in line. We went for lunch for the first time today and had a really nice experience. My favorite part was that they were happily accommodating of my disability. Many people expect an explanation of why you need accommodating when you look fine to them, but as I started explaining the sweet employee stopped me and told me that I didn't have to explain myself to her and that she'd be happy to help me. The food was nice, I especially enjoyed the sweet potatoes with bok choy in a sesame sauce. Everything was so fresh and perfect portions to be satisfied but not stuffed. The menu had a nice variety and had options for just about every type of dietary need. Every employee we encountered was kind and friendly.
