My yogi friend took me here yrs ago when I had the worst case of bronchitis. (I couldnt afford a visit to the hospital, which I recommend to go when you are sick like that.) I went here, and this kind woman w beautiful hair, heard my cough and pulled down one of the herbs off the shelf. With clear explanation and seriousness of my cough, she sent me home w this tree bark, (I was new to all of this. ) Nothing had helped me at this point, not even whole cloves of raw garlic. I tried everything. It took a wk of drinking this bark water, and I got better. Didn't like the vibe of the store. Great products, customer service... not so much. Had to wait a little bit for assistance before having to go the register and ask for help. To then encounter a very dry and not warm person. I guess she's not used to interacting with urbanites/minorities. Perhaps next time I go, I will look more "hipster" like the people of the neighborhood to have someone offer assistance. read more

Awesome selection of herbs-- I go here when making homemade sodas (root beer, etc). The staff could've helped me pick out everything even if I'd entered not having any idea what to use, and were knowledgable on substitutions and other herbs that would combine well for taste. The staff's main knowledge seemed to be alternative medicine, but they're more than friendly to help you with whatever you're interested in. read more

I really like this place. They have a very large selection of herbs and tinctures. I always buy my loose white sage from there! It's sooo fresh! Employees are VERY friendly and helpful! This is my favorite place to shop for herbs. The staff are always pleasant and easy to talk to and they often stop what they are doing to answer any questions you may have. All you really have to do is say excuse me and they will even stop mid conversation to help you out. Also if they do not have the herb you need they are good at telling you what other stores in the area might have that herb. The thing is that you need to be willing to go up and grab the jar of whatever herb you might need and take it up to them. Going to this store is always a great experience and one can learn a lot from just talking to the staff especially Lata. They do not try to talk you into buying their herbs nor are they too forceful in selling them. read more

Wonderful place. Went in needing a few flower essences but unsure of what to buy, the woman who worked there gave really helpful guidance and the essences are the best I've ever purchased. This is one of my favorite places to come for bulk herbs. They have a really wide selection of them and hey're all ok to ingest. They even have some cooking spice blends! The prices are really great, honestly some of the best that I've encountered. The staff is ridiculously nice and such a boost to your day. They have a very broad array of knowledge and are very helpful. Plus I love all the little knickknacks you can get. The space has a very positive energy to it. Good place. Actually, one of the few places to get herbs in NYC! They have so much in a tiny space! They are friendly and attentive. The place has a good vibe. However, slow...slow....slow....slow service! Wow. Thank Goddess there are chairs. Also, not so sure how fresh all the herbs are. I like em potent and some seemed a bit old. What's great about this place is that the herbs are fresh and they are unusual. I found mugwort and a native american blend of herbs as well, that I have never heard of before. The staff was helpful when I had questions and could recommend places to go, if there was something I needed that they did not offer. Lots of holistic remedies. read more

The wall of herbs was very impressive and featured some rare herbs. The book selection was disappointing but oh well. Unfortunately the staff was too busy chatting with someone, I asked for something but I was completely ignored, I felt like I was a ghost and no matter how loud I scream, no one will hear me. However the general atmosphere was very welcoming and cozy -much more welcoming than Enchantments a couple blocks down- only if they heard my voice. I didn't have a better experience at Enchantments, the chatters holding up the staff were also present there. This might be some issue specific to this area, or part of the culture, I am not sure. Ignoring the customer to chat for half an hour, and not taking a few seconds break from your chat sessions to answer a simple question is considered extremely rude and bad for business where I live. It seems to be a part of the culture in the Village. 4 stars for the great selection of herbs and the nice, cozy atmosphere. I just didn't feel like waiting for god knows who long for the folks to finish chatting so I left. read more

I'm at Flower Power every couple of months and I always enjoy it. After my visit today I was sure that I had to write a review. I went in to get some loose sage to smudge and grab some rose buds. I was also looking for Rose Otto oil, which they were out of. I probably would not have bought it anyway since it's about $50.00 per 1/2 ounce no matter where you go. The girl behind the counter was so nice! I told her how I really only needed a few drops so she ended up giving me the empty rose bottle which had several drops of this liquid gold! How nice of her!! She also gave me some samples of a love incense! I always have a good vibe whenever I leave the store and I always get a few things for under $12.00. Its defiantly worth a trip. read more

Was there earlier this week. Customer came in with dogs. Worker pet the dogs. Then did my bulk herbs without cleaning her hands. Even touched some of the herbs. Very unprofessional and unsanitary.
