Went here for my birthday brunch on 6/14/26. The service was terrible. The food was either over seasoned or under seasoned. The ambiance and decor of the restaurant was impeccably impressive. Definitely a great spot for pictures. The vegan Salisbury steak and vegan eggrolls were great! Our table had: "Johnnie Cat" which was blackened catfish over dirty rice with crawfish. The fish was salty and wet. Fried chicken and crab Mac and cheese. The chicken was not cooked completely. It was pink on the inside and still had feathers on it. The crab Mac and cheese was just crab meat placed on top of the dry white macaroni. The chicken was sent back and took another 30 minutes to come back out. This time is was cooked a little better with less pink but there were still feathers on it. I guess the cooks expected the grease to fry the feathers off. Idk. Crab and spinach dip- uncooked warm crab meat on top of spinach dip. Just not good at all. Collard greens with pot likka and hoe cakes. Super salty. From the greens to the thin cornbread was super salty. Cabbage and hoe cakes. Unseasoned cabbage, salty, thin cornbread. Hawaiian Ribeye cooked medium well with mashed potatoes. Ribeye full of fat , like 80% of fat and rubbery. Potatoes were good. Let's not forget the beignets. Baby fried Hawaiian rolls! Absolutely terrible and hard! Find another option because these are NOT IT! And our server , Daleecia..... let's not start but I can honestly say that I think she was the only server on the lower level. Our water wasn't refilled until we asked 20 minutes later because obviously nobody thought we needed more and when the 4th person, the drink wasn't brought until maybe 10 minutes later. Dishes were left empty on the table as we sat and asked for them to be removed due to the clutter. Overall for a $280 ticket that included gratuity, I was highly disappointed with the experience and service. I was so excited to go experience Mahogany which was why I chose this location for brunch. Wow - what a special place! We had friends visiting from out of town and wanted to take them out for a nice dinner. We got that along with amazing views for an affordable price! I've liked Mahogany ever since they had the location on Poplar, but this location is definitely a step up. The interior is luxurious, glamorous and beautiful. I would say their menu has upscale soul food. I really wanted to try their vegan items, but our server gave us disclaimers about most of the items containing egg or coming with non-vegan sauces. I did get the vegan wings with honey gold sauce which I enjoyed. My suggestion is to come here for their delicious cocktails and maybe split a couple of cocktails. This is a great weekend brunch, date night spot. I would recommend booking a reservation because they will be packed over the weekend. The food selection was diverse from vegan, lambs and seafood. The food took a little long but we did have a large party so it was expected. I believe our wait time was around 1 hour. I wouldn't go off our wait time if you plan to have a smaller party. The best part besides the quality of the food was the live band. This was a great added touch for brunch. If their patio was open it would be a great spot to have brunch looking out to the river. Went in for a 2 pm Sunday brunch celebration. Weren't seated until 2:15 even though our whole party of 6 ppl were there on time. Also, wasn't happy that we had to pay $10 for General parking or $20 for valet. I chose valet but dang, do they not own their own parking lot? So I had to pay for parking even though they have a huge parking lot which is rare downtown. Then waited 15 min on a reservation. But the restaurant is really nice with a great view of the MS river plus they had live music being played...think Bridgerton vibes. So I calmed down taking everything in and enjoying the vibe. Then they tell us we have to order by 2:30 pm bc they close at 3 pm for the dinner prep. So we order our food and drinks quickly. 20 min later, still no food nor drinks, so we order beignets to eat with our water that is on the table. Beignets are delicious. It's after 3 and our food comes out. My daughter and mother's waffle and bacon is raw. We have to send it back. Comes back great. Everyone else ordered grilled/fried fish with grits and greens. We were pleased despite everything. Service can be slow. You have to pay for parking. But you will eventually enjoy your meal. If service was better, I could get past the paid parking and might come more often. But right now another restaurant has the ambiance, vibe, free parking, great service, and good food. Speaking of drinks, we ordered a few, though I can't recall the names--just know they were absolutely delicious. Perfectly crafted, balanced, and exactly what you'd hope for in a refined dining experience. For starters, we went with beignets, and from there, we indulged in a feast: lamb chops and grits, steak, fried catfish, oxtails and grits, greens, hot water cornbread, mac and cheese, brioche French toast, Belgian waffles, fried potatoes, and scrambled eggs. Every bite felt intentional--thoughtfully crafted and packed with layers of taste that left us thoroughly impressed. I really enjoyed my time at this establishment. I visited the first location in the past but this one exceeded my expectations. The service was excellent, the ambiance was perfect, and the food was delectable! We visited on Easter Sunday and it was crowded as expected. We made a reservation but had to wait maybe 15-20 minutes which was no problem. I enjoyed the catfish, greens pot likka, mac and cheese and cornbread. My companion had french toast brioche. Both of these dishes were chef kiss. The background music and scenic views made my experience more pleasant. They have paid parking maybe $5-$10 and a shuttle to bring you from parking lot to front door then back to your car afterwards. Can you say royal treatment! The customer service is amazing, and the ambiance of the restaurant is exquisite. I'm not a native of Memphis, a transplant from DC, who absolutely loves Memphis and the food scene here. Valet is 20 dollars, so definitely wasn't doing that. They do have a complimentary shuttle which was really nice. We got on it as we were leaving. The vibe was nice, it was a packed house as it was Father's Day. Sometimes it looks dead in there, there's a lot of seats inside and out. We were served by Chantel at the bar. She is an excellent example of superior customer service. She was knowledgeable of the menu, provided great suggestions, and had a welcoming, warm and can-do attitude. We wanted for nothing while we fellowshipped. I truly appreciate great service! I had the Beignets to start, they weren't the traditional version, but for what they presented as, they were tasty, flaky, yet soft and sweet. For my main course, I had the Catfish & Grits. The catfish was perfection! The grits had great texture, but flavor wise, it needed a little more love, but after adding salt & pepper it was just fine. I also ordered the collard greens - as a non pork eater I will always take the opportunity to eat greens outside of the house when I can! The Cornbread on top was also very good. My brother got the shrimp & grits and they were tasty as well! Lastly, I had 2 Michael Jackson's Billie Jean (I think that was the name?). It was their variation of a French 75. I would have given a 1star review because the service was incredibly slow. There was a DJ playing music that was way too loud and conversation was virtually impossible. The good however was pretty good. It wasn't worth the wait as there are so many places in Memphis with better food and better service but it was good enough to warrant a second star. Mahagony River Terrace is actually the elegant elevated experience that I've been searching for for awhile. Located in Harbortown, Actually ended up being better than if we'd gone downtown. The restaurant offers a shuttle that will take you straight to the front door if you choose to park public. They also offer a valet option. From the moment we walked in, we knew that it would be a different experience. With three levels, the ambience was perfect. We sat on the bar level since our reservations for the patio could not be fulfilled due to the weather. We had catfish, greens, and grits. We also had a tasty dessert that was like a funnel cake for our birthdays. The drinks were also perfect. We had an attentive, bartender, Shantel, Who checked in on us frequently and made sure that we had both our food and drinks. We will certainly be back. I'll take more pictures next time! It is critical that we support our local business who offer this level of care and service. I am hopeful that this best-kept secret becomes a well-known gem in Memphis. read more

I came here not sure what to expect. The river view is nice but place feels cheap. And the r food was below average. My steak didn't taste good and they gave me "A1 sauce which is apparently kraft sauce for steak. With the sauce it was edible but below expectations given how this place is rated. The place was empty during lunch which is also telling. If you want to enjoy the view come here but don't have high expectation. Moreover, I was charged 20% service fee when I am a single person doing lunch here which was a bit absurd which was not mentioned in the menus and typically service charge is applied in either large groups or super luxury places which none of this situation was. Extremely Disappointing Experience We had a reservation for seven people and were told we would be seated at a table in the bar area. When we were taken to the third level, the staff attempted to seat all seven of us at the bar, which was not what we reserved. After objecting, we were moved to a makeshift table on the second level. These were lightweight outdoor wicker-style tables, unstable and not suitable for indoor dining. The tables moved constantly, glasses nearly tipped over, and there was no room to sit comfortably. Our waitress did her best, but she was clearly overbooked and stretched too thin. Our reservation was at 7:00 PM but not seated until 7:35 PM. We were given only three glasses of water, and the remaining four were not brought until after I finally complained due to the lack of service. Service continued to be extremely slow. We did not receive our food until 8:59 PM. The food itself was also disappointing: Two guests ordered the salmon with scallops, but the dishes arrived without scallops. We were later told they had run out and were given shrimp instead, without prior notice. One guest ordered the lamb chops, which were severely overcooked. Despite a $530 bill, no attempt was made by management to offer restitution or meaningfully address the situation. While we received apologies and told next time I come in to ask for our waitress or the assistant manager and they would make sure it's right, the overall experience--from seating to service to food--was unacceptable. This was the worst 'fine-dining' experience I've ever had and I would not return. read more

First time here, found it on TikTok I believe and I will say I was not disappointed! It is a beautifully located locale by the water. As soon as we walked in we were impressed it was Black Excellence on full display! Although we failed to make a reservation we were immediately seated. The staff were professional and courteous. The female patrons were all dressed beautifully and the men dapper in their suits or business casual wear. There was saxophonist there he was jamming! Adding to the atmosphere, I felt at home and was excited to see what my meal would look like. I ordered Oxtails and grits and a orange juice mimosa. My friend ordered the lamb and grits with a peach mimosa. My food was good as hell! The grits came with cheese, perfectly cooked, didn't need seasoning, Oxtails were falling off of the bone and the mimosa was good. Her grits came the same way with cheese and her lamb was magnificent it was tender, flavorful, and cooked how she wanted medium well. My kids took me here for Mother's Day 2026 and I can't believe how we was treated! We made it on time for our reservation 5:30pm! We was seated right away! We order started food and drinks,it took them a hour to bring it! We order our food about 6pm and the food never came and it was 8pm! So we end up canceling our food because the food still wasn't coming out! And the manager came over just to say they only had 1 cook and they sorry! wtf! Had reservations for party of 15 to celebrate my sister's 60th birthday on Saturday 10/18/25. Made the reservation on 10/6 which is more than enough time to staff properly; had to prepay $32 per person, $480 at time of booking. We had 1 very slow disengaged server who definitely did not earn 20% on a $1000+ check. They do not do separate checks, we were told the server would help out & give each party their total with tax & tip - that did not happen. We were left trying to tally up and figure out totals from a check that has nothing in any order SMH. Our guests were all disappointed with the slow service not matching the expensive prices and ambiance of this restaurant. Server was taking 30 minutes to bring sodas and some guests even walked out due to frustration with the subpar service. The night ended without gifts being opened, games were not played & the fire alarm was blaring in our ears for what seemed like an eternity. Do not go here with a big group unless you feel like doing algebra. I have only heard complaints from our guests no one said they enjoyed the food, everyone said cocktails were awful & my people left agitated and not happy.
