BUYER BE WARE!!! I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience was so frustrating and unprofessional that I feel people should know before doing business here. Before I even applied for financing, I called the dealership and explained my situation honestly upfront. I told them I had recently transitioned out of non-W2 income, had inconsistent income history, and had a couple of repossessions on my credit. I specifically asked if it was even worth applying before wasting anyone's time. I was told that as long as I could provide an offer letter from my new position, they should be able to work with me. After applying, I was initially told I needed $10,000 down. When I explained that wasn't possible, they suggested either trying a different vehicle or getting a co-signer. I got my son to co-sign, and then suddenly I was told the deal was approved. At that point, they asked me when I could come pick up the car. I was then told the down payment would be $2,500, but I wouldn't need to bring it immediately -- I could pay it within three weeks. Then later it changed to $3,000. I was repeatedly reassured that the terms would not change again. From there, the dealership requested document after document: ID Insurance Proof of residence Utility bills Credit card statements I recently moved, so my license still had my old address, and utilities at my current residence are included through my landlord. I explained this multiple times. Every time I submitted something, I was told "that should work," only for them to come back later saying it wouldn't. I provided: A closeout utility bill Another utility bill Credit card statements Additional proof of address Eventually even documentation connected to utilities at my current residence This went on for days with constant back-and-forth communication and shifting requirements. At one point, after spending the entire day sending documents, I was told at almost 8 PM that we would "have to revisit tomorrow." Then after again confirming that the terms would not change and they could get the deal done. Today I was suddenly told the bank now required the FULL $3,000 upfront immediately. The most frustrating part was the complete lack of accountability. Every time something changed, the response was:"The manager told me..."or"The bank changed it..." Apparently the terms changed hour by hour. At some point, it honestly felt like the goalposts kept moving no matter what I provided. If the deal could not be done, that should have been communicated clearly from the beginning instead of putting me through days of stress, paperwork, insurance setup, and repeated requests for documentation. I have purchased multiple vehicles before and have never experienced anything this disorganized, inconsistent, or unprofessional. I also have to be honest and say that I began questioning whether race may have played a role in how this situation unfolded, because the tone and complications noticeably escalated after I submitted my ID. I truly hope that was not the case, but it is unfortunately how the experience felt. No customer deserves to be treated this way. read more

Called in to get price on a vehicle listed on Autotrader. Sales manager comes a long and says the lower price on Autotrader is made up by Autotrader and that the real price is $4000 more. I have never heard such a thing where Autotrader makes up their own price. I spoke with another sales manager and said he agrees that he hasn't heard that one before and would be happy to honor the price on Autotrader. read more

Bought my CX5 two years ago here. They told me the car comes with 2 free oil changes. At no point did anyone mention there was a time limit. I work from home, so I only need about one oil change a year. When I came in today for my second free oil change, I was told it had already expired. No one mentioned this when I bought the car, and no one mentioned it when I came in for my first oil change. A simple heads-up would have been nice. So now I have to pay. Fine. I asked how much an oil change was. It's $120. When I questioned why it was double the typical rate, Adrian explained that it's "a multi million dollar building." So just a heads-up to fellow customers: you will be paying an extra $60 for the honor of having your oil changed in a MULTI MILLION DOLLAR BUILDING. Truth be told, our interaction with Fontana Mazda went so well that I feel like I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop. Well, it's been a month since we were last here, and it felt like a good time to finally write a review! I have to give hubby props, because he was the one that really went into research-mode to figure out what car to get and which dealership to work with. He was also the one who did all of the communications, while I basically was on the sidelines and asked questions whenever the popped into my head, ha. Anyways, hubby really worked through a number of dealerships over the span of several weeks, but Fontana was the only one that felt like they were truly upfront 100% of the way from start to finish. Hubby asked questions; they provided answers (e.g., out-the-door pricing, timelines, package details). Hubby asked for specifics; they didn't beat around the bush, or give him details of a DIFFERENT car. Everything looked good to the point that we decided to make the visit. Shoutout to Shawn for working with us digitally. When we came by on a Saturday and parked, Christian was already waiting for us, and the car we were interested in were ready-to-go for us to inspect and to go ahead and do a test drive. Did a test drive on the road and a small part of the freeway, and drove back to the dealership. Christian answered all of our questions, and then, when we didn't have any other immediate questions, escorted us inside, where we met Shawn and went through some further logistics and details as we waited for Jose at Finance (e.g., Karr security system, trade-in options, warranties). It was quite a busy morning for Fontana Mazda, so we did wait around an hour to hour-and-half before fully getting started on the Finance pieces. Christian was great in chatting with us while we waited and getting some paperwork squared away, and was around to provide any other assistance. Once Jose at Finance was ready for us, Jose/Christian escorted us to Jose's office, and we got immediately started on the paperwork. While all of the paperwork was happening, Christian went to get the car further ready, check on the car we were trading in, and basically made sure we were set to go once the last signature was provided. Jose was great in answering all of our questions, never acting frustrated, and chatted us up on a range of topics (love the pictures of his truck!). I think the paperwork took around another 45 minutes or an hour. Once done, Christian was in Jose's office to walk us out to our car right when the last paperwork was shuffled away, and we were out of the dealership within minutes. Hands-down, this was THE best experience we've ever had with any car purchases. Shawn, Christian, and Jose were the dream team in getting us everything we requested, and timed everything out so that we weren't unnecessarily waiting if we didn't have to be. There wasn't any pressure on us to buy more stuff, or a higher trim; they really LISTENED to what we were asking for, and accommodated the best they could. They were straightforward, honest (!!), and extremely professional throughout, and I can only hope that our future car-buying experiences will be as seamless. In truth, we're still in shock on how WELL everything went. Case-in-point: we figured the official license plates would take around max 3 months to receive, but we received it in under a month! I have been interested in the CX50's for a while. When I was getting my CX9 serviced, I was looking at the CX50 inside the dealership. YZ approached me and offered for me to test drive them. I wasn't entirely sold on trading in my car at the time and YZ gave me a way to contact him so I could reach out if I changed my mind. What I loved about my interaction with him was that he wasn't pushy to get me into a new car that very second. I ran into him again when I brought my CX9 back for service months later. We chatted for a while and offered for me to text drive the CX50's again. I drove different trims several times which helped me narrow down which trim I preferred more. I still wasn't exactly sold on trading in my CX9 since I invested in new tires and maintence on it recently. He offered to go over some numbers if I had the time. I thought, why not, and assumed I couldn't get a good deal in the current market. I was firm on what I wanted as far as what I could afford and settle on. I don't like to be pushed into a deal or sweet talked into one, but, I'm glad YZ nudged me in the right direction without over doing anything. I was able to make a pretty awesome deal and made a trade into a newer, safer, gas saving vehicle, while sticking with the Mazda brand. This makes my 3rd Mazda purchase in a row. I decided to come here for a used car purchase yesterday and made a deal. Off the bat I called beforehand as was able to get all the info I needed from salesman Philip. He was helpful and transparent and responsive. I show up and sure enough everything was as expected. When I take the car for test drive I notice there's 6 miles to empty on the vehicle...odd that they are letting me test drive that way but ok... Check the car out and it's what I'm looking for, I came in with preapproval and they worked with my credit union so there were no hiccups there. My issue came after the signing for purchase, salesman told me that he couldn't get his upper management to approve them adding gas to the vehicle...I'm sorry?? I just gave you guys business and you are handing me a car that has 5 miles till empty???? I've never heard of this...I thought I was being pranked. Up until this moment I had nothing but great things to say about this place. I speak to Semaj who was the person who denied putting gas into the car, I drove here from Orange County. I told Semaj that there was no way I'm driving off the lot with absolutely 0 gas in the car. Can you guys put gas in the car so I can make it to the gas station at least?! His response? Basically he didn't care. I asked, is this going to be the reason to where I no longer want to make a deal with a dealership that is leaving me hanging like this. I wasn't asking for a full tank of gas but I've never heard of driving off the lot with a car (used or new doesn't matter) with a 5 miles till empty warning on the dash!!! Make it make sense? Anyway, Semaj had a very unprofessional, cocky arrogant response, to where he blatantly said we can cancel the deal no problem...so he basically didn't care if I took it or not. By that point I felt bad for Phil who had given nothing but great customer service the whole time. Before walking out and cancelling it all Phil was able to put some gas in the car so I can make it to the gas station and fill up myself. Thanks Phil. But overall this experience left a bad taste in my mouth over the principle of it all. Usually there's back and forth in the sales process of purchasing a vehicle but never heard of a dealer handing over a car that way, not only that but the response of basically not really giving an F, bad form. Had the worst customer service experience ever yesterday with a woman i will be posting a picture of attached to this review. So, i roll into the service department 5 minutes before my scheduled time and park my car in front of the service department- like i normally do. Now, keep in mind i have a prepaid service for 5 oil changes with a tire alignment. Anyway, so as soon as i get out this woman blatantly says "you have to move your car over there (points behind her) then once we move these cars you can move forward." I informed her that i had an appointment and would like to check in then move my car, being that there is a line for check in, and i didn't want to waste anymore time than i had to waiting for people who can just walk up to the service desk when i am clearly early for my scheduled appointment. I dont argue, just get in my car and move it to the back, and as soon as i get out AGAIN this lady is beside my car telling me to move my car, not asking or requesting my keys to move my car as they are paid to do, i tell her i am checking in and walk past her because at this point its annoying me that she is entitled enough to demand i move my car multiple times. As i get in line, she appears beside me and informs me that someone else has an appointment before me and i ask her how she would know that if im next in line and haven't even said my appointment time. This random man walks in behind me and states that he was here first, when i tell them i didnt see anything (at this point im irritated) i inform them that i was here first and didnt give a f*ck what their problem was but i just needed to check in my car. With that being said, the "manager" (same lady whos been accosting me since i pulled in) tells me that they will not service my car and informs her worker not to help me and walks away. At this point im flabbergasted at how much this interaction escalated being that i work in customer service and would never talk to a customer , demanding them go do things, or let others cut in front of them. After that she informed me that my prepaid service that i purchased here would not be valid anymore and said that i would need to leave. At this point im enraged and asked for a refund and which she denied, so i will be going to corporate with a formal complaint and the BBB. I dont know if it was just not her morning kr what but she needs to learn actual customer service if she wants to be working with the public. read more

I'm really disappointed because my first experience at Fontana Mazda was great -- we just couldn't agree on a price back then, and I decided to wait for next year's model. I was genuinely open to doing business with this dealership again after that good first impression. However, today's experience has completely changed my opinion, and I'll never consider this Mazda again. Here's what happened: A few weeks ago, a different salesman from Fontana Mazda called to follow up. I told him clearly that I would only be interested in the CX-90 PHEV Preferred if the out-the-door price was $48,000. He said he could make that happen. I confirmed that if he could do that, I'd come in over the weekend. He later texted me an "estimate" showing $48,000 (with some details hidden) and asked, "Does it have to be the hybrid?" I replied yes -- I wanted the PHEV Preferred. He then said, "Ok no worries, does this work for you?" and I confirmed yes, that would work for me -- assuming it was the PHEV at $48k OTD. So my wife -- who is 36 weeks pregnant -- and I drove an hour and a half to the dealership expecting a smooth, honest process. Instead, when we arrived, he acted confused and asked again whether we wanted the hybrid or the turbo. Then he came out and admitted the $48k estimate was actually for the turbo model, not the PHEV -- the very thing we had clarified multiple times over text. In other words, he misled us, wasted our time, and made a pregnant woman sit through a 3-hour round trip for nothing. I have all the texts to prove it. This was a complete waste of time for everyone -- for him, for Mazda, and for us. I understand that sales is a tough job, but misleading customers just to get them in the door is not acceptable. I purchased a 2022 Mazda CX-5 a few days ago. So far, I'm loving the car! I worked with Semaj and Miguel. Semaj did a phenomenal job explaining the car's features. He was kind and a great salesman. Miguel went on the test drive with me and my friend. He was very warm and friendly. I did, however, feel it was misleading to advertise the car online for ~23k, only for there to be add-ons that drove the price to 28k. I was told these could not be removed or discounted unless it was a new vehicle -- not sure why they couldn't be discounted at least. Ultimately, I'm not convinced I got the BEST deal. The car buying experience itself was pretty smooth. The financing office did persuade me into adding an additional warranty. I'm still not sure if that makes me a sucker or not. A few annoying things: - they gave me the car completely on Empty - the key fob was dying and I had to go buy a new battery the very next day - I already had to file a claim with Permaplate because the stitching on my seat was coming undone (fortunately, this is covered by one of those add ons). - three days after purchase, I had to take it in for servicing due to an electrical issue... fortunately, the extra warranty I purchased covered this... Lastly, because I drove myself all the way to Fontana, Miguel was asked to drive my old car back for me. This was during prime traffic hour and I live in West LA. They did not pay or coordinate a way for him to even get back to the dealership... as an HR professional... I can tell you this is not okay! Crazy, really. He had to ask his friend to drive all the way down there to pick him up and take him back. I Venmo'd his friend $50 to help incentivize him to come get him from West LA (took about an hour and forty minutes). That should've been taken care of by the company. I don't want Miguel to get in trouble here -- he did not complain about this at all. I simply overheard this and witnessed him trying to coordinate a ride back. This is a breach of USDOL and CA regulations - unless he is an exempt employee. Oh update: my brakes are already squeaking lol. WOW. I can't drive to Fontana for a courtesy check on them, but thankfully, the very nice service department lady hooked me up with someone in Huntington to do a courtesy review of my brakes. Everyone is gaslighting me saying it's not going to be my brakes pads. lol watch it be the brake pads and watch them not cover this cost for me. Update: that Permaplate add on they didn't give me a discount for or anything...? Well I had to open a claim for a stitching issue. The salesman told me they'd drive to me for repairs. The first vendor they set me up with started his email by telling me he would not drive to me... so I asked them to give me someone else. They finally did and the guy drove out from pretty far to help me out. He told me they don't tell him ahead of time what the claim is about. So upon inspection he immediately said he couldn't help with that. They can't help with a stitching issue. Only discoloration/stains/tears. Siiiiiick dude. read more

Everyone I dealt with respected my time, didn't pressure me, and helped me make an informed decision. Huge thanks to Semaj (manager), Justin (sales trainee), and Jose (finance)--all genuinely good people who made this process smooth and stress-free. I came in just to check out the CX-50 and ended up buying it within 3-4 hours--without even knowing much about it beforehand. I had just come from a Toyota dealership where the experience was terrible. Before that, I was at a Toyota dealership checking out the Crown Signia--my wife and I had it on our radar. It wasn't the car that was the issue--it was the customer experience. At Toyota, I felt judged from the start based on the info I gave. Let's be real--I'm not going to give you full details about my income just because you tossed me some keys and let me test drive the car. That's not how business works just because you work at Toyota don't think a car sells itself. As a business owner myself, I know the value of providing a real experience. The Toyota rep didn't even attempt to sell the car or explain the difference between the used and new Signia specs. It was a complete letdown. [Avoid dealing with Antonio--he's who I interacted with. Can't speak for anyone else there.] Now contrast that with Mazda: We were greeted by Justin, who kindly asked if we had an appointment. We didn't, but she still got us set up with Cunisin, a senior sales rep. I explained we were just browsing and that the CX-50 wasn't really on our radar--we had basically decided on the Signia. Still, they welcomed us warmly, offered us water or coffee, and took the time to understand what we might like within the CX-50 line-up. Cunisin showed us a specific CX-50 model with the doors, trunk, and hood open, and walked us through everything in detail--even things not listed on the spec sheet. He explained the MyMazda app, answered all our questions, and gave one of the most informative, non-pushy presentations I've ever experienced. After the test drive, I was sold--this car felt better than the Crown Signia. Semaj, the manager, handled the negotiation with transparency. I had a number in mind but wasn't ready to make a decision yet without talking to my wife. They respected that completely, gave us space, and didn't rush us. Once we felt ready, we talked through the deal and were happy with it. They presented the usual packages and warranty options, but made it clear it is part of his policy to present these options--no pressure, no upsell tactics. They even stepped away to give us more time to decide. Jose, the finance rep, was super chill. He reviewed the warranties we selected, crunched the numbers, and explained Gap Insurance in a way that actually made sense. While Semaj had touched on it earlier, there was a lot going on in my head at the time, so I appreciated Jose's clarity. Again, no pressure--just helpful insights. --- Bottom line: This Mazda team gets it. Respect, transparency, and actual customer service. I wish every dealership operated this way.
