This restaurant is affiliated with Original's pizza next door arguably the best pizza shop in Brooklyn. I went to Fontana's to order the spaghetti and meatballs. Simple dish. Who can mess this up, right? Wrong. I got a large plate of pasta with two meatballs. The sauce was not seasoned and tasted as though there were several ingredients missing. I'm so sad that I have to rate this place two stars. The ambiance is great and the staff is extremely friendly. However the food is not great at all. Now I'm not Italian nor do I profess to be an expert on Italian cuisine. My review is based on my preferred taste, and the presentation. I ordered the Lasagna and honestly couldn't find it. I'm used to lasagna having layers--mine did not. Another issue I had was the overuse of tomato sauce. My one layer lasagna was swimming in sauce. Due to the small portion, I had to combine my brother's spaghetti and meatballs with my food just to have something filling. I honestly couldn't finish it though because I began to experience heartburn. I wanted to like this place so much especially because of its affiliation with the pizza shop next door (amazing pizza by the way) but I can't. I have had better Italian food honestly. I am very picky on my sauce. My pick up order was eggplant parm with pasta. The eggplant was not crispy and the bottom slices seemed undercooked. I am also not a fan of bitter tomato sauce over done with basil. I called in the order and asked them to have it at 7- I wanted it warm but it seemed already waiting by 6:45. These are crucial moments so I don't have to re-heat a pick up order. Asking for a side order of parm cheese was like pulling teeth. Aside from the fact that the food and service are awesome, I have to relate something that occurred last night while my three adult children and I were eating. This is the second time that I have been here. When I paid the check, I thought it was a little high but we had ordered a few things to go so I really just checked for the items. I did not check the math. As we were getting into the car, the owner (who is also a chef) came out and asked if that was my bill, Thinking my credit card didn't go through or something I said yes. He said "we charged you too much". He brought us back into the restaurant and refunded $71 in cash. Tried this place on a whim as we were looking for a place to grab something Italian for dinner. My SO got the meatball parmigiana hero, I got the eggplant parmigiana hero and we split an appetizer of mini rice balls. Everything was delicious!! The rice balls were piping hot, crispy on the outside and full of cheesy goodness. The meatballs were flavorful, and the eggplant was beautifully sliced thin like a cutlet and not greasy at all. The marinara was slightly sweet, but in a good way. The bread was perfectly toasted and the sandwiches were individually wrapped in foil and came in their own boxes so they didn't get soggy. We loved the place so much, we went back next week and got the exact same sandwiches! We'll be back and trying the other things on the menu for sure. read more

My favorite dinner go to! The best authentic pasta dishes and salads. With my 5 and 1 year old, I found the receptionist there is so welcoming and accommodating. Horrible service. Spent over $20 on pasta and selected gluten free because that option was provided (I have celiacs). When it finally arrives it comes with pasta that isn't gluten free. I call them and they say that the particular pasta dish doesn't come gluten free despite the fact that there is the option to select it. The man on the phone was not apologetic nor helpful. I went there today with my mom and husband. The food was great, and Carmelo made us feel very welcome. We shared two delicious appetizers: eggplant rollatini and burrata with prosciutto. We all enjoyed our main courses as well: pasta with seafood; veal Marsala; and chicken Sorrentino. We finished our meal with tiramisu and the best espresso ever. Ravioli, baked ziti, mozzarella sticks, eggplant parm hero, penne a la vodka; it was all very good. I ordered a takeout from this place for dinner and it was good, not over the top but okay I'm average tasting. I ordered the chicken cutlet, fried ravioli and rigatoni pomodoro. The chicken cutlet was okay but I wish it was a bit more crispier, nothing special about this piece though. The rigatoni was average, there wasn't much sauce or other ingredients that came along with the dish though. The fried ravioli was very good. It was crispy and the fillings were good. read more

I saw this place on my way to visit my friend a few times.. I finally gave it a try and WOW.. First off I was SO, hungry when I checked it out. I was getting takeout and asked what was good. The cashier right away suggested the penne alavodka... It was probably the best I've ever had. I've had a lot of Italian takeout and delivery in the past- and let's just admit that when you order pasta; it never arrives aldente.. Well they managed this.. Portion was huge so I had lunch the next day. Also ordered the chicken parm hero and it was awesome.. Salad was small but fresh.. I came through here with my family 2 nights ago and have to say that the food was absolutely incredible! The funny thing is, we were initially going to head to the pizza place next door. I was next up in line and my dad called me to stop me because he wanted to try out Fontanas (I believe they're owned by the same family). It was such a cute, well kept spot, with waiters that pay very close attention to detail, making sure everything is just the way you want it. I would like to say again that the food was SO good. Passed this place so many times and finally decided to try it . So glad I did. Chicken marlasa very tender and great taste. Fettuccine Alfredo with chicken very good, gave it to two three year olds they were practically licking their plates. The focaccia is good but could be a bit more crispy. Ordered a grilled chicken and broccoli rabe hero but got the one with grilled chicken it was really good. My husband and I were craving something yummy locally. I enjoyed my previous meal at Fontana's so we decided to stop in again tonight. The staff is very welcoming and the waitress was super sweet. We started with minestrone soup which was really good. My favorite was the filet sole oreganata. It was so good and full of flavor. Food is very good. Meatballs are good for restaurant meatballs but far from authentic Italian meatballs. Spaghetti perfectly al dente. Bread was sliced and toasted into a crouton but the garlic oil came to the rescue. Don't ask for the garlic oil unless you really love garlic or are trying to repel vampires or your girl. Waitress was really nice and slow but I'll give her a free pass since she was probably about 16 years old. Really nice chandelier in the center of the room. Dining room is spacious and the tables have nice space between them. Actually felt like a table for 2 not 6. A full bar and homemade real Italian meatballs and they can probably pull in a 5* rating. I've ordered from Fontana's five (5) times since they've opened. Being it's the restaurant side of Original Pizza, I was expecting great food, but I was mistaken. I've ordered from Fontana's after long gaps hoping there would be improvement but it remains subpar. It's truly sad because I believe Original Pizza is the best pizza I've ever eaten. Unfortunately, something must get lost in the wall between Fontana's and Original. The food is edible, but considering portion size and quality it's extremely overpriced. My family has been ordering from here since they opened. We catered from them for all of our parties as well as take out a few times a week not to mention we went there frequently with the whole family about 15 people to eat inside the restaurant. I recently ordered a tray of eggplant parmigiana for the superbowl and they sent me eggplant rollatini. I called up to let the them know they sent me the wrong food so the boss tells me that he is the one who took the order over the phone and tells me i told him i wanted rollatini which i would never say because i dont like ricotta cheese and on top of that my wife called and confirmed what was on the order the day of the superbowl and they repeated the order to her twice and said parmigiana. Long story short the boss tells me rollatini is almost the same thing as parmigiana and i kind of got offended after him telling me that i said rollatini which i most definitely did not and then trying to get out of it by telling me it's almost the same thing. They sent me the tray of eggplant parmigiana in the end which was like 1 inch thick and disgraceful compared to the other 20 plus times we have ordered a tray of this from them and the guy got here and asked for the rollatini back which some of my guests had already eaten 2 pieces of knowing that they were just going to throw the rest away which is a sin. I wasnt going to eat it because i do not like rollatini but knowing they were just taking it to throw it in the garbage got to me, or who knows maybe they were going to resell it as someone's dinner. I called the guy after everything in a polite manner told him the story and how i felt about it and he told me then dont call here no more and i said i will definitely not be. This place is complete trash the guy i spoke to who claimed to be the boss was a real disgusting person and did not handle the situation the way a proper restaurant would have. I do not recommend this place at all. $150 for a tray of wings and a tray of what was supposed to be eggplant parmigiana just to get this aggravation. read more

Fontanas is a beautiful Resturant to bring your family or people from out of town for a special night. But their prices of their food are just ridiculous. They are charging Manhattan prices for their food and giving little portions. How does chicken fettuccine alfredo and bake clams come out to almost $30!! Mind you the bake clams are like $12.00 and they give you 6 small little clams. Food is great but not great enough. This restaurant is one of the fancier high end ones in my neighborhood, and is perfect for both casual or fancy dates, dinner with family and friends, etc. I absolutely love the service here; the waitresses/waiters are always nice and efficient. The seating is very comfortable and the decor in the restaurant is on point! With tvs placed around the place and the radio playing, there is always some entertainment so it's not awkwardly quiet.
