In the Foothills Motel Zoo like an animal that just figured out the glass was retracted and there you are one unattended steak. That tawdry Wild Kingdom spit and shove love should occur in a setting that goes with the inherent tawdry found within your Post-Prison Papi. Think of it like make-up love. Except that you hafta wait 3-5 after the apology for it to actually happen. You got one chance Scooter. Don't screw it up. Get the room at The Foothills Motel with the pre-stained carpet, bed pushed up against the wall and lopsided table held up with The Getmesomes Bible. No one will know you are there because no one will admit going past room 399 and if they said they saw you then who's Man lied about his release date to double dip so it's all good no one talks code of honor thing. Best 60 bucks you'll spend for some time. Tag him in one of the 400's. THEN release him back into the wild. There were some very aggressive guys talking and cussing very loudly. I couldn't tell if they were right outside my door or in the room next to me. I rode in from the highway, on a friends' high praise recommendation. However, had I not been exhausted, I would not have stayed. The staff was friendly, but I was appalled by the duct tape holding down the carpet around the vents and the torn lemon-polyester and the absence of a phone. I was also amazed by the multi-chalked patio and torn screen door. When I checked, the boss was more concerned whether or not I followed his service button rules than whether I enjoyed my flophouse experience. I genuinely empathized with staff. Just what we needed! Retro motel in process of being refurbished. With that said, the rooms have been refurbished and are very clean and nice. Extremely comfortable beds and each bed had 4 pillows. Michael, the manager, was very friendly and accommodating. If he's not in the office he is out walking the grounds. There is no pool or spa/hot tub at this time. Even though it is being refurbished there is not construction noise. In fact, there is no noise at all. Guests come all hours most staying 1 night, sits on hill above I80 but it is extremely quiet. We were there last weekend for 2 nights and it was very restful nights. It is across interstate from Auburn State Recreation Area and is in a great central Auburn location. East access to hiking, lakes, rivers, Old Town and North Auburn. Moderately priced. Would easily stay again. read more

This motel obviously isn't the most appealing too the eye but we've been here 3 weeks and Micheal is nothing but helpful and nice. It's a place we called home. Pros: Sliding glass door to a porch Cable (if you plan on staying awhile bring your own tv the one in the room it's alittle outdated) Mini fridge Microwave Close to stores and fast food Cons: Parking is terrible especially when the maintenance guy thinks he owns a certain spot (he is nice tho just rubbed us the wrong way the first night) Showers are old and the water pressure is weird Bathroom is outdated hole in the ceiling where a light I'm assuming is supposed to go. Beds are comfy but check them when you arrive as my sheets looked stained and hair was on them. Good luck getting toilet paper when needed you basically have to hunt down a maid to get some. My biggest complaint is the fact that if someone is smoking marijuana in a room it travels thru the vents and it's strong as hell. I have a 16 month old and not something I want him smelling!! Micheal the manager was very helpful tho and I'm assuming moved them to another room. Also you don't control the air in your room so it's either too cold or too hot! Anyways I'm not talking bad about this motel at all just giving people a heads up as to what to expect. It's not a bad place at all! We have been staying here for years when shopping the Auburn area. All I can say is I love this place, it is always clean and has everything one needs for a pleasant stay. The rooms and grounds still have the feel of years ago with out the wear and tear so many others like have. I would give 0 stars if I could. This place is disgusting. Our "non-smoking" room reeks so bad of cigarettes that it makes me nauseous. And now all of our stuff stinks too. There was a cigarette burn in our sheet. The box springs are stained very badly. I'm scared to even look under the sheet at the top mattress. The tv is probably from the early 90's and has no remote. The shower head comes to my shoulders (I'm 5'7). The furniture is broken. Even for just $70/night, this place is way over priced. They should spend a little money and do some painting and upgrading. Might help with the disgusting smell. We have 5 people in the room (me, my husband and three little kids) and there was ONE towel. And no on at the front desk so we had to make do. This place also feels really shady and I've seen some questionable people walking through the parking lot. Spend a little more and stay at the Best Western or even the Holiday Inn. We won't ever come here again. I hope I can get this funky smell out of our clothes! read more

If your driving down 80 and your first reaction upon seeing the retro-ish Foothills Motel sign is that you would love this place, then you probably will. Pull over and stay as needed. The woman who checked me in was efficient without being friendly, had that single mom, small town look to her. If this was a movie she might have a late night tryst with a ruggedly handsome Kevin Costner playing a sensitive bad boy trucker just stopping by to rest up on his way to mete out some vigilante justice. Well this isn't a movie (and I'm no Kevin Costner) so it's remote and a key for me, and the window slides closed again. The hotel and rooms have that kitschy, run down--but not too run down--50's nostalgia, with a better tv, feel. Something in your room might be broken and the outlets are few, but you won't feel terrified of the shower--or have nightmares of bed bugs. Each room has a parking space right in front of it, so packing and unpacking is easy peasy. The beds are cozy, and the tv has tons of channels. A quick walk around the property and we see a pool, barbecue, and small patio for each room. The pool looks like a dead slug, but no points off since it's winter. The entire property is one story, and the room has a small back patio where I can watch the freeway, the dead slug, and see a few restaurants. I couldn't help but feel like this is one of those hotels that has some "residents." You know the type of dudes I'm talking about--you've seen them around, old single white men, with beards and limps, wandering back and forth with cigarettes hanging out of their mouths. I call these people the triple P's. The Potentially Postal Profile. These guys don't feak me out though, they just remind me of home. This, however, brings me to my last point. If you're driving down 80 and your first reaction to the Foothills Motel sign is, um--no. Then you probably won't dig it. Don't stay here. Between the triple P's, and the lights being off on most of the property at night, it feels a little Bate'sish. But just a little. read more

This place is OK, not very welcoming. You don't get a feeling that your business is appreciated at all and is defiantly overpriced for what you do get. The weekly rate helps for extended stays. At first the front desk lady was rude and not helpful. We were told at one point that we needed to switch rooms because they had a group with reservations for the rooms with sliding glass doors that we were in. We planned on moving to a new hotel. The day we were to check out we were told we can stay. We have been here long enough and were settled in and our dog loves it here since there are lots of dogs around to play with. There was an issue with parking since they have assigned parking, but they have parking available in other places. Don't stay in room 101, doors don't secure well. We found a needle in this room in the decorations also. We switched rooms. I bring my own sheets towels, bleach and vacuum since we travel all the time. (All it takes is one bad hotel to ruin it for the rest). I hope the housekeeping was having a bad day or blind to explain the piss spot on the bed protector covering the larger piss spot on the bed....we flipped the mattress to the surprisingly clean side, sprayed bleach... use their 2 sheets as barriers....spayed bleach.....put my thick protector cover down ....added 2 fitted sheets and my own blankets....sprayed bleach on surrounding areas. No Guest Laundry..not sure I wouldn't use it anyways. Going to Mrs. T's I think...will let ya know how it goes. Breakfast??? oh the other review must have been talking about the plastic wrapped pastry and old coffee in the lobby! (Pastry is ok...one of the few times I approve of using plastic in such a disposable manner. THE AIR CONDITIONING IS ON ALL THE TIME!!! IT IS HORRIBLE!!! The pros: 1.I like the patio a lot. Good for dog...but old critter poison= bad for dog 2.Little fridge and Micro 3. The rooms have a slight charm to the decoration 4. PET FRIENDLY 5. Hot tub is always open ALL IN ALL....the price is way to high for the return. I hear there is a Motel 6.... or a Holiday Inn. If you stay here and need internet make sure you are in the right room. No breakfast offered. No Guest Loyalty. Very few outlets. read more

After a grueling drive, 10 hours from Reno to Auburn, we saw their big sign off Hwy 80. Best choice we could have made. Very friendly. Clean and comfortable rooms. We slept great and took off refreshed the next morning. read more

The manager walks around 30 min prior to check out and anounces check out. It's a weekly rental type place and you will feel uncomfortable.

I would give zero stars If I could. The room temperature was about 55 degrees with no option to change it, the manager is extremely rude and the sheets were absolutely filthy. I called 15 minutes before checkout to ask for a 12 checkout (checkout is usually 11). He said they never do late checkouts and even though it was a little odd, I figured it's their right to do that. I ended up paying appx 10 dollars to stay an extra hour to get some sleep. At about 1130, a maid walked in when I was not decent and laying on the bed. Essentially, I was not able to get my sleep before work due to his lack of communication. I called to ask for a refund and his excuse was that he had to go to staples and didnt tell the maid service. He said it was after checkout and "sh#* happens,,, if you dont like it, dont come here." Very unprofessional and rude. Ps. Stay at super 8 next door. They are MUCH cleaner and give discounts all the time :) read more

Foothill Motel is by far the worst motel I've ever stayed in. Every morning the manager, whom I can only describe as a meth head. Bangs on the door like he thinks he's swat , and yells at the top of his voice, people are still sleeping. Very rude. The bed was agony and hard and sway back. There was one outlet which had a extension cord full from tv microwave ect. The bathroom had no outlets for personal care. And no nightstand to read by. Go to the Motel 6 down a couple blocks the price is about the same , it's clean comfortable and the have a phone to call desk and fire alarms read more

Don't stay here unless you truly, absolutely must. Really. For $70 a night this place is absurdly overpriced, unclean, and definitely not worth it. I ended up here because it was the only place on I-80 with a free room on the Saturday of labor day weekend. We checked all the other hotel/motels in Auburn before coming to Foothills' half-lit sign. The only rooms they had were smoking, but it was 4am and that sounded better than sleeping in the car. It was, but only just. Here's what was wrong, roughly in order of how much it horrified me: 1) Door to our room didn't close. It did lock, kind of, but it was too big for its frame and stuck out a full inch into the room (read: making the room totally unsecure and easy to break into.) 2) Many large holes across the bedspread and the sheets (maybe cigarette holes?) 3) Unfolded a bath towel to find a large, rust-colored stain covering half of it (I'm going with rust because the alternatives are too gross to contemplate.) 4) No control for the temperature anywhere in the room, which was so cold we finally put a stack of magazines over the air vent so we could sleep. 5) Advertised wifi, but then were told there's only wifi in some rooms, specifically not ours. 6) Threatening note in the room informing us (which the desk guy had not) that check-out is 11am and we'd be charged $10 for each hour later we checked out. 7) Further threatening notes all around the reception/office telling long-term guests not to eat the breakfast or bug the desk guy at night...not classy. I'm pretty sure there were more issues I'm not remembering right now, but you get the picture. Now, I've stayed in some grubby $25/night hostels in my time, and I'm comfortable sacrificing style for a great price, but for $70 I expect clean sheets and towels and a door that closes. I'd like to give this 1.5 stars, since so far as I know there were neither roaches nor rats, but I'm erring on the side of 1 star so the next exhausted yelper driving down I-80 won't be suckered into a bad deal. For the price it is quaint. It seems to be straight out of the Dirty Dancing era and I am sure in its hayday it was quite the charmer. The people behind the desk are a bit creepy but you only have to deal with them for a few minutes. There seem to be some long term folks who stay that are also kinda creepy but again...I am not living there. We found our room to be sufficient and super close to our meeting spot for White Water rafting. We ended up staying two nights with no realy issues. read more

if this had a 0 star I would for sure hit that button! went there on my way to reno. didn't want to keep going so figured we would stop. all out of desperation. all motels and hotels were booked that nite... #1 the beds looked like they weren't changed for months, #2 the ac was run by front desk and we roasted all nite, #3 the onlu plug outlet was the one that was for tv and direct tv. no plugs anywhere else not even in the bathroom. couldn't shave or anything! carpet hasn't been changed in yearssssss.... the sink in bathroom was dirty and had a big crack in it and was rusted.the office lady directed us to a place to eat.. said it was very good Mexican food.. called marias tacos, supposedly a local favorite.. OMG worst food I ever had. beans were sour, rice was like mashed potatoes. but the sprite was good lol...I guess the locals don't get out much.. food was awful! no coffee in room not even a coffee pot wtf? no pool and it was 90 degrees. I shoulda know something when it was the only place with vacancy but remember I was desperate.. save your money... disgusting! read more

My wife and I have been here several times in the last 20 years. Yes, it's old and yes the central heating is old and yes sometimes things are broken. But we like old funky motels and we like this place for the most part.......until now. Unfortunately our last experience was poor service and no phone service. My wife checked us in as I was comatose from a 13 hour drive across Nevada. The young women behind the counter was unprofessional, not attentive and unfriendly according to my wife. When I tried to call out for food, the phone didn't work. I tried to dial the front desk but no answer. My trip to the office didn't go well. The young women pretty much told me I should have known the phones were out at it was clearly posted in the office and that I was dialing the wrong number to call the office and that I should have known as well. I had not been in the office and the phone in our room clearly said to dial zero and not what ever number she said I was supposed to dial. I found her to be rude and combative and very unprofessional. Had she taken her eyes off of what ever captured her attention on the computer or attempted a civil conversation behind her hoody, she may have seen a very tired and haggard traveler and some kindness may have resulted but alas she suffers from what ails so many. My attempts to complain the next day were met with extreme resistance by 2 other persons who had read the night persons log and had absolutely no interest in hearing my grievance. They seemed very interested in telling me how rude I was even as I attempted to be civil. It seemed important for them to tell me the young women had what I can only assume were good excuses to explain her behavior and yet no regard for a very tired and haggard traveler. Had she any people skills, that would have been apparent. But since none of them seemed capable of eye contact much less a professional attitude regarding their job, it was useless to continue our conversation. Hopefully, a letter to the owner and triple AAA will result in positive changes. read more

No heat in room! When I asked the desk clerk how to control the heat he said there was no heat, only recirculated air from a central heater. A heater which they did not turn on in 40 degree weather! Because of a leaky door and single pane windows the temp barely got above 40 in my room. Tossed and turned all night because of the cold. Asked for a refund in the morning. No deal. Had my credit card company dispute the charge. No deal. They stand by their air circulation. Which means you are sharing air with every other room in the place. Cigarette burns on bed, bugs in bed and dirty carpet. Nice town though. read more

creepy, nosy manager makes inappropriate comments; says he cleaned up the place, but still lots of drug activity and late nite partying. Stated if trouble happened not to call the police; he would handle it....WTH??? And then we have the rooms. Bathroom had mold, carpet shot and the bed had springs coming through. A friend stayed there and the room was dirty and had no carpet. And if the manager doesn't like you for whatever reason, real or imagined, you need to watch your back. read more
