I usually think of Darling Aviary as more of a weekend-night spot for rooftop views, music, and drinks, but my friend and I decided to stop by for happy hour on a weeknight and were honestly so pleasantly surprised by both the food and the bill. We shared the chicken sandwich, buffalo wings, curly fries, and each had two margaritas. Everything was genuinely delicious. The chicken sandwich was perfectly cooked. It was crispy on the outside while still moist and tender inside and it was well seasoned with a sauce that paired really well with the chicken. The buffalo wings were also perfectly cooked with a flavorful sauce that had just the right amount of kick. And the curly fries were gloriously indulgent in the best way possible. The margaritas were great too. They were happy hour sized, but they definitely did not skimp on the tequila. Super refreshing and well balanced. The biggest surprise of the night was the total. For all of that food and four margaritas total, our bill came out to only about $63 including tip, which honestly feels like a steal these days. Heading to Darling Aviary for our first stop on a girls night. The vibe was fun. They had a great rooftop bar with a great dj playing nostalgic 70s and early 80s music. The server was very friendly and worked hard to get our drinks but as the crowd grew it was to many for one server to handle. It did take a while to get our bill but again they were working hard so a small inconvenience. The water misters did cool things down but for most women the mister is an issue after styling your hair. More of a vibe for the beach or ask ladies if they want to be sat away from the misters. The drinks were great and we enjoyed them. The neighborhood down K street is still in transition so not recommended to walk down so stick to the area near Golden One. read more

Absolutely love coming here for a night out to sit outside on the rooftop. Darling Aviary is right across from DOCO next to a strips of other bars and restaurants, making it an easy spot to stay or end your night at. The inside is so beautiful, has bar and table/booth seating, and a Photo Booth! Upstairs is pretty spacious with bar and high top seating, and both upstairs and downstairs have areas for the djs. They do offer a rooftop bar but it was raining so will be returning for that when it opens. Was told that's the main attraction of the place. Bartenders were great! Had a couple questions about the menu a they were very friendly and helpful in finding a good drink. Full bar so they can make whatever you'd like not necessarily on the menu But their menu drinks are pretty unique so recommend trying one or two for yourself This bar all has a full menu for food Surprisingly great food! Went to Darling Aviary Rooftop Bar for the first time to celebrate a friends birthday. The ambiance and the setup was top notch especially on a beautiful day. The food was okay, my loco moco was on the saltier side while my girlfriend's breakfast burger was pretty tasty. The green goddess dip was okay as the zest was overwhelming the rest of the dip, we ended up not being able to finish that. In terms of service they seemed understaffed having only server for the whole patio, we had to constantly try to track them down both to order and to pay the bill. All in all the ambiance is what carries this place along with the drinks. Maybe the dinner menu is better but that will have to wait until my next trip to Sacramento. read more

Came here for the rooftop happy hour experience, however I can imagine this place gets turned up late at night. The bar itself downstairs is really unique looking and beautiful. There is a semi-large rooftop with lots of family style seating. We got here around 4 on a holiday Friday. Surprisingly the rooftop was really empty and we opted for a seat at the bar. The rooftop does have some shade available for the tables. The happy hour drink menu is great for typical drinks (beer, wine, seltzers). I wouldn't say you have a lot of "normal" options for mixed cocktails if you're into that. Someone next to us did order one of the Odd Bird specials and sent it back so I'm really not sure if that would appeal to most. Neither of us tried a mixed drink, but stuck with standard draft beer and Long Drink. We did order two sandwiches off the menu. They were full size, however I wasn't impressed with the chicken. I expected a large single chick patty and this was multiple small pieces which ended up being mostly breading or extra fried edges. The burger was a better options. Lots of people had the fries around us which looked great (sadly didn't try) Regardless it was just nice to be outside on a beautiful day. They did have a TV at the bar which they changed to the basketball game for us from the bird channel lol There is a DJ booth upstairs so I imagine it can get pretty loud up there later in the evening. read more

All around great spot to go to. Very unassuming from the outside. While I was in Sacramento I was looking for a rooftop spot with good vibes and I found it! This is a great spot for brunch, with a good rooftop view and a DJ set up for Sunday. The downstairs indoor bar wasn't open when I was there but I'm sure it's a vibe. Aviary themed on the inside and out. The upstairs/patio bar area has enough room to walk around and find some solid seating. While I was there the bartenders were attentive and hooked me up with the booze that I needed. I didn't have a chance to try the menu food but I hear it's pretty great as well. What a fabulous time my daughter and I enjoyed while having lunch & cocktails here! The vibe is quite chill with a very cool interior and exterior. Our server Jamie could not have been any nicer. She has an adorable personality with plenty of smiles and made some great cocktail recommendations for us. Their "Lady Bird" aka a Hugo Spritz was divine. A little too much ice so finished quickly but quite good. The Brussels sprouts were delicious as were the Tater Tots (perfectly crispy). The Cole slaw fell short with absolutely zero flavor- the most bland I've ever tried. The rooftop bar/cade offers beautiful views. The bouncer should aim to be a little less serious- no eye contact and robotic greeting (room for improvement). They have outside seating upstairs and it was a vibe. Lots of different types of people moving to this place which made it feel great. The food was delicious although we only ordered fries and Brussels sprouts. The Brussels sprouts were so damn good. I could not stop eating them and I am a fries kind of guy. They had really great delicious drink options as well. It gets very busy here for sure. Luckily we got here early on but after a while, there were long lines to ge to the bar. We strolled in from Old Sacramento through DOCO to check out Darling Aviary on a Sunday evening around 6PM. We were ID'd outside and able to walk right in with no wait, which was a great start. As soon as we walked through the front doors, there was a strong smell that honestly reminded me of a bathroom. It was pretty gross. Luckily, we weren't planning to hang out down there and headed straight up the elevator to the rooftop bar. Once we got upstairs, everything changed. Fresh air, big vibes, and music blasting. The DJs were on point, playing house and more up-tempo tracks that fit perfectly. The atmosphere up there is really well done. Plenty of space to sit or stand, and even though it was a cold night, the heaters kept us comfortable. Getting drinks was easy. We walked right up to the bar and were served immediately. A couple of us had cocktails and I had a beer. Drinks were solid and well made. Pricing felt average, not overpriced and not cheap, which felt fair for the experience. I'm honestly not sure why I haven't been here before, but I'll definitely be back. The rooftop alone makes it worth it. read more

I had a Terrible experience, my friends and I tried to go there and the Filipino man at the the front got mad because I inadvertently bumped into his kiosk with my walker; we were all dressed up as old ladies for my 40th birthday. He said we couldn't go in and was really disrespectful about it. I don't understand why he was being so rude to us; we're ready to go and have a good time but he treated us like we were an absolute inconvenience, I have been here multiple times and never had this experience before. This was absolute racism, ageism, and discrimination, and I will not tolerate it. I have been here before and never had this type of experience, I hope that management makes the right choice and gets rid of him. Meh. Was super excited to finally go here with my monthly brunch group. We got here at 11 and we were one of the first to arrive. There were 5 of us and plenty of places to sit. It took 30 min before someone came and took our drink order and food order. When the food arrived it was cold. The drinks were great but it's clear the food is not this places specialty. Our little group is easy as we love getting together and catching up and we're not picky at all. No one complained but it's all in the details. A side of eggs were delivered on a plate on top of a black napkin? Eww. I will say their bacon was delicious. Really flavorful. The only big disappointment was when our server went to settle our bill individually which was nice he sneakily gave himself a 37% tip and rushed me by saying "I just went a head and included gratuity " but then said "if you want to tip" and if you've been drinking and not paying attention I can see how they can get you. First time at Aviary on Saturday night. Arrived around 10:45 and no line at the door. Staff and security were great at the front which is always a good indicator that we will have a good experience. The bar downstairs was nice and warm and multiple bartenders slanging drinks. We had a group of about 12 and there was plenty of room for everyone to hang out. Music was neutral and worries for the vibe. The upstairs roof deck is the coolest part by far. There's a full bar up there, room to dance or sit, and bathrooms so you don't have to go back downstairs. They had heaters on also so pretty enjoyable even with the cold temp and winds The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is the drink prices. I feel like $17 for the mixed drinks we were ordering was a bit much but it's ok here and there. Will 100 percent be back next time in downtown sac. read more

We recently visited Darling Aviary for brunch, and while the menu didn't offer an extensive variety, the options they did have were appealing. FYI the burger pictured below did not come with fries and had to order a side. I personally ordered the French toast, and while the apple purée topping was delectable, I was disappointed to find a piece of lint in my food. On top of that, there was a hair on the lemon slice in my drink, which was definitely off-putting especially after the first incident. That said, the vibe of the place was fantastic. Good music played throughout, and later, a DJ took over, creating a fun atmosphere with people even dancing. The drinks and service, apart from the mentioned incident, were solid, and the staff was friendly. Since the downstairs area was closed during the day, seating was upstairs, but the view was lovely. Despite visiting on a chilly day, the heaters made it cozy and comfortable. The only other downsides were that there's gratuity included depending on your group size even at the bar when ordering drinks/shots which i find a bit ridiculous and dealing with the elevator situation . Security didn't allow guests to wait nearby, as only five people were allowed at a time, which felt a bit inconvenient. Despite the food mishaps, I enjoyed the experience and would maybe consider coming back --especially to check out the nighttime vibe. Hopefully, the cleanliness issues were a one-time occurrence. read more

It's pretty small up there though, so I'd imagine it gets pretty packed. We went for happy hour. The pelican fries were massive and tasty, but needed more sauce. Number one- on the weekends they charge cover-- and the thing is you have to go inside and wait to go to the rooftop. Which is complete BS! So you are paying to come inside and wait! My best friend and I had been wanting to come here together for a long time and today was finally the day we were able to do it. We were so excited for some adult time and happy hour, but sadly, that's where the excitement ended. After getting two drinks at the bar (Jamie the bartender was the only positive interaction) we sat down at a table. We waited over 50 minutes for the waitress, Alex, to come check on us and ask if we wanted more drinks (she never did). We watched her go to every table around us 2-3 times, but never ours. Ordered the chicken sliders and they were amazing! The crispy buttermilk chicken was nice and sweet, they paired it with a hot sauce that added some spice. The service is great the general manager Alfonso was so attentive of guest and making sure everything was running smoothly and one of the bartenders Russell was making amazing drinks as well as giving great customer service!! The ambiance of this place is amazing if you like music and dancing you can go to the rooftop bar and enjoy the scenery but if your more into having a drink and convo the downstairs room is nice as well. Stopped by Darling Aviary on a Sunday afternoon and it wasn't so busy inside. The interior is beautifully designed and super aesthetically pleasing with a trendy, modern feel. They also have a rooftop area, which looked great, but we chose to sit inside since it was a hot day. Customer service was solid. We both ordered the Sunrise Margaritas. They were decent, but at $18 each, they didn't quite live up to the price tag. Felt like I was just drinking juice. One fun touch is the photobooth inside, great for snapping a quick pic to remember your visit. We didn't try the food this time, but it's a cool spot to check out if you're in the area. read more
