It was so greasy and the food just tasted like nothing. If you like bar food that tastes like you could make it in college, this is the place to be. I don't mind people who smoke but with the smoking area being right next to the door you get the sour smell of the smokers area even though we weren't in the smokers area. My burger arrived hot and in a lightly toasted bun. The only disappointment was the sweet potato fries. The first problem was that they were limp and cool rather than crisp and hot. More significant was that they were sprinkled with sugar. When I mentioned this to the server, she said "We don't put sugar on them. That's salt." Meh, I've experienced better... Best description ever for this place. I've been here several times and swore it off years ago. I've seen a bunch of "hype" recently about new ownership and a new direction. We were celebrating my daughters last day of high school and she decided she wanted a burger. After discussing several places too far away, and one local favorite that we are all tired of frankly, we decided to check out Belmont. I do remember them having a good burger. We arrive and it is the "normal thing" you always get when you have four kids. We have heard it almost every time we go out. Today we didn't have the 20 yr old with us but did have a boyfriend in tow. Did you call ahead? Nope! Oh, Well... It's going to be at least 30 minutes, she says... Looking around its obvious that is crap. Right by the front door there is a table of 8 leaving, and I mean they are leaving right then. They clean the tables and proceed to pull them apart. I should note, there is no one else waiting on a table. Another family of six arrives and goes right in and sits down (they must have called ahead) We stand outside another 6-8 minutes while there are at least 10 tables open. I stick my head in to see what's up. I'm getting something soon, she says. Hmm, I hope so I see her pull the tables that were previously together, back together, all the while complaining about all of it. "I just pulled these apart". Yea, why???? You took our name. Wow! We ordered a sausage cheese plate and some fried cheese things for an appetizer. I will not comment on these other than you can see my pictures and the best of both dishes was the ham on the cheese plate. Two ordered burgers, one Reuben, one fried shrimp, kid's tenders, and a kid's grilled cheese. Emory (10) said it was the best grilled cheese ever made. That's a compliment, especially from her. I had the fried shrimp. I love fried shrimp and these would have been great had they been delivered hot. The breading was nice and the shrimp were butter flied and cooked well, just kind of cool. I had potato skins as a side and one of them was still crunchy from being undercooked. The other one was just ok... Not crispy enough all but at least fully cooked. I imagine that my food was ready first and sat waiting on the other dishes. We ordered Caramel Cake and Coca Cola Bread pudding to go. I thought that the BP was old and cold. It had a side of black stuff I didn't try. This was probably a mistake and is much better prepared in house to eat. I found the Caramel Cake to be dry. All in all, I've had better... I've been hearing about this place for years. I finally checked it out while catching up with a friend who lives 5 minutes from the restaurant. I was a tad skeptical since it was a bar. I had read somewhere there's a patio but when I asked they said they didn't, or they couldn't service it due to only having 1 server. It was 5:30 on a Sunday. Since I had heard their burger was good I asked the waitress which was more popular, The Grilled Burger or the Forrest Hill Burger, and she said the Forrest Hill due to the caramelized onions. I ordered that with a side of sweet potato fries. The waitress asked how I wanted the burger done and I said medium. My best friend ordered the Prime Rib Dip. The food came out relatively quickly and both looked really appetizing. Unfortunately my burger was not medium, it was well done. However I wasn't disappointed with the burger. The ratio of burger to toppings to bun were perfect. The bun held up, didn't get soggy, and was so fluffy. I especially loved the smoky-grilled flavor of the patty itself. The sweet potato fries weren't a side show either. Sometimes sweet potato fries still taste super "sweet potato-ey" but these didn't and the seasoning was perfect-not overly salty and not bland either). It was a great meal! read more

Our family of four had dinner there on a weeknight before Christmas. The service was a little slow but the food was good. We've enjoyed our meals there in the past. This night however, the owner clearly had a few drinks and was enjoying himself at the bar with patrons. No big deal except my family was sitting right by the bar area and had to listen to him swear and say inappropriate things very loudly. We ate and got out of there quickly. We just thought it was unprofessional for an owner to behave that way on a weeknight with families all around. The restaurant itself looked like it had a sprucing up and was nice. First visit to the Grill. Very nice young lady waited on me (Kat). Ordered a bloody mary, average. Patty melt on grilled rye and it was barely grilled. It's their spin on a patty melt and I hated it. Bacon in the patty that was limp and unappetizing, had a weird taste. Put tons of yellow mustard to try and mask the flavor but it didn't help. We went to give this place another try....sadly, it was just okay, nothing really great. We were promptly seated when we walked in, and while we were given menus, we were never offered a kids menu despite having two mini humans with us. I was surprised to see this place carrying Wicked Weed Brewing Company, one of the first restaurants to have this particular line of beer in Memphis. Bravo. This sadly is the last positive for this place. My wife ordered their Bloody Mary based on a recommendation. As my wife side, it was nothing special and she had has better. As we looked over the menu, we noticed that NONE of the sandwiches come with fries (or onion rings, etc). You have to pay $2.50 for a side of fries. I've never seen a separate up charge for this except in very high end restaurants. We ordered my oldest son a PB&J. The bread seemed somewhat stale or spent too much time close to a heat lamp. This made the very thick white bread very tough, and parts did not pass the eatability test of a 4 year old. My wife ordered a shrimp poboy. It came served on some type of yellow bread which seemed a bit odd (compared to the same sandwich served at Soul Fish next door). Here is the biggest issue....the sandwich came with 4 shrimp....4! For $12.99! Seriously? My wife was in absolute shock! Add the to that the lack of a "side", and now I have a problem with portion size vs. price. I had a Reuben....my favorite sandwich ever. It was served on beautiful rye bread....except as my wife jokingly said, "that's a sad looking Reuben". It had decent flavor, but the meat was not evenly distributed and there was more bread than "stuff". Compared to other places where I've had this sandwich, it was on the small side. The plates, which I don't normally pay attention to also seemed too small for these dishes. The aforementioned poboy was too big for the plate, and it just seemed like ownership skimped on buying proper plates. I don't think we will return, except for maybe apps/happy hour. The portion sizes of food are not at all appropriate for what one pays. I would hate to order the prime rib sandwich (almost $15 bucks) and still be expected to pay for fries, and be disappointed with what came out (as other reviews have mentioned). Service was also really slow. I had to track down our server Sierra to order more drinks, and even then, it took over 10 minutes just to get a refill. When presented with the bill, I placed my method of payment in plain view, and even then, it was another 10 minutes before the server returned to process our payment. It was a very disappointing lunch. This should be 2.5 stars, but I gave 1/2 a star for the clean restrooms. read more
