We went to give this place another try....sadly, it was just okay, nothing really great. We were promptly seated when we walked in, and while we were given menus, we were never offered a kids menu despite having two mini humans with us. I was surprised to see this place carrying Wicked Weed Brewing Company, one of the first restaurants to have this particular line of beer in Memphis. Bravo. This sadly is the last positive for this place. My wife ordered their Bloody Mary based on a recommendation. As my wife side, it was nothing special and she had has better. As we looked over the menu, we noticed that NONE of the sandwiches come with fries (or onion rings, etc). You have to pay $2.50 for a side of fries. I've never seen a separate up charge for this except in very high end restaurants. We ordered my oldest son a PB&J. The bread seemed somewhat stale or spent too much time close to a heat lamp. This made the very thick white bread very tough, and parts did not pass the eatability test of a 4 year old. My wife ordered a shrimp poboy. It came served on some type of yellow bread which seemed a bit odd (compared to the same sandwich served at Soul Fish next door). Here is the biggest issue....the sandwich came with 4 shrimp....4! For $12.99! Seriously? My wife was in absolute shock! Add the to that the lack of a "side", and now I have a problem with portion size vs. price. I had a Reuben....my favorite sandwich ever. It was served on beautiful rye bread....except as my wife jokingly said, "that's a sad looking Reuben". It had decent flavor, but the meat was not evenly distributed and there was more bread than "stuff". Compared to other places where I've had this sandwich, it was on the small side. The plates, which I don't normally pay attention to also seemed too small for these dishes. The aforementioned poboy was too big for the plate, and it just seemed like ownership skimped on buying proper plates. I don't think we will return, except for maybe apps/happy hour. The portion sizes of food are not at all appropriate for what one pays. I would hate to order the prime rib sandwich (almost $15 bucks) and still be expected to pay for fries, and be disappointed with what came out (as other reviews have mentioned). Service was also really slow. I had to track down our server Sierra to order more drinks, and even then, it took over 10 minutes just to get a refill. When presented with the bill, I placed my method of payment in plain view, and even then, it was another 10 minutes before the server returned to process our payment. It was a very disappointing lunch. This should be 2.5 stars, but I gave 1/2 a star for the clean restrooms. read more

The Forest Hill Grille, formerly Belmont Grille, provides a convenient location that's tucked away from the congestion of the shopping just a street behind them. There are whimsical signs and the feeling of a more casual dining experience, but they offer something for everyone. I met a friend and he ordered the Cuban sandwich and I ordered the bbq mac n cheese. I was immediately impressed by the presentation of the dish. The cheese was melted all over and the bbq sauce had a nice criss-cross pattern. When I dug in, I liked that they used corkscrew pasta that was just the right texture. The cheese, bbq, and sauce were so good that I could've eaten 2 portions. I highly recommend it. read more

It has the same classy feel; great service; and great food. I met colleague out here today for a business lunch and was thoroughly pleased. I had the grilled salmon which was on the money cooked just RIGHT. It came with an Asian glaze which made it scrumptious. The sides were a yummy mushroom and rice dish and steamed broccoli. So I did not know they had a Belmont Grill in Germantown and wow I am so happy they have one. I went there on Wednesday for a friend's birthday and I was super impressed with the restaurant. We had a large party and customer service was fantastic. To top it off, all of the food was delicious and I mean everything. Because I know amazing people (love ya'll) I was able to sample some appetizers. I got to try the Hot wings, which I thought tasted great and were not spicy at all. I also tried the pork belly sliders. They were really good. I also tried the duck & waffles which I thought it tasted okay. I ordered the Prime Rib Dip with potato skins. My oh my was that sandwich good plus their potato skins were yummy as well. Because the birthday boy spoke so highly of their bread pudding, I ordered their Blueberry bread pudding which came with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and I will admit that was the best bread pudding I have ever eaten. Great neighborhood bar/restaurant. Very comfortable non-chain feeling. I like sitting at the bar and meeting life-long Memphians as well as smart visitors. Bloody Mary was excellent, I liked that I could taste horseradish. I had a wonderful hamburger steak with au jus (you can choose mushroom gravy) It's served over rice with spices It's served with a little loaf of yummy bread. Terrible service. The food was descent but after seating us it was a solid 10 minutes before our drink order was taken and then another 10 minutes before the drinks arrived. Our order wasn't taken. The drinks were just dropped off. Then it was another ten minutes or more before our order was taken. There were only three other tables in the entire restaurant so it wasn't because they were busy. We could see them just standing in front of the kitchen door talking to each other rather than serving us. There was even a lady who came in and stood at the door waiting to be seated forever. We've been a couple of times and each time the food and service has been fabulous. We've had the Sausage & Cheese plate each time for an app, The Prime Rib Dip, The Grilled Burger with cheese and bacon with a side of onion rings, Fried Mahi Tacos, and the Seared Tuna Salad. Skip Brunch! Almost $13 for Benedict with razor thin tomato & avocado, a cup of greasy bacon bits as the 'ham'. What a joke! Had to send egg back as top of one was raw. The patty melt and onion rings were pretty good. The patty melt had some really good bread, but the butter was greasy. I don't believe this butter came from cream. I'm pretty sure it was made by pressurizing hydrogen gas into vegetable oil. The onion rings were good. At $14 for the burger, rings, tea, and tax, I consider it too expensive. With what seems to be a change in owner, this places has been changed for the better. The inside is different and the food is great. The servers are polite and give good recommendations while getting you your order quickly and exactly how you order it. Nice local place with a bar to hang out in, so if you're visiting or a local looking for a place to frequent then check this place out. Has been our "go to" place for the past few years for both lunch and dinner, however, the recent price increases and food quality have been disappointing. Two weeks ago we took our grandchildren there and ordered a basket of onion rings for the table. It contained a total of three over-breaded and under-cooked onion rings. The french fries are still wonderful but the basket for the table is now about half full. The 50/50 patty melt I ordered last week was dry and tasteless. The Philly cheese I ordered the week before was medicore. I used to order the tamales (5 each) from the appetizer menu for $8.00. They came with chili, onions, cheese and jalapenos. Now they are part of the entree menu (5 each) for $12.50 with chili. Add $1.50 if you want cheese and onions. Quite a price increase. Sadly, we may need to find a new "go to" place. I came here after work to have a quick happy hour drink. While I was enjoying my lovey drink at the bar, a clearly intoxicated individual use the "N" word loudly in conversation to another patron. Not loud enough for the bartender at the other end of the bar to hear him. I asked for my check and told the bartender that if they are using the N word around here, I would like to leave immediately so cash me out. The white bartender then went to the pay station and printed out the check that I thought was mine. Instead, it was for the foul talking man. His words to the guy were, " we don't play that around here, you are out of here!" Then the manager, also white, stands next to me and reassures me that I was safe and that this type of talk was not tolerated in this place. Both of them red in the face expressed their anger and disgust at that patron as he tried to explain that he wasn't talking to me and tried to apologize. They didn't care about his excuses. There will be mixed feelings about this review, but as an educated black woman, it felt good to have two strong men having my back in a f'd up situation. This was my 2nd visit. Loved the fried mushrooms in a tempura batter. Well....... The 2nd visit the mushrooms were battered in more if a flat bland flour. Very disappointed as I love fried mushrooms and not many places do them anymore. The bartender explained that they were cooked perfect and that the last time they must have been done wrong. Chicken pasta was a bit greasy but edible. For the price seems like I was missing half of my chicken breast. Ribeye sandwich $17 bucks. It's shaved so you're only getting about 4oz of meat. Doesn't compare to the prime rib sandwich at J Alexanders which comes with fries for $19 bucks. Atmosphere is relaxing. No city crowd to deal with. Steve Barzizza has upgraded almost everything from installing new windows, cleaning everything, and a fresh coat of paint. The most important thing is the new menu. He has kept the famous Belmont Burger, but he has added several new items to freshen up the choices. I suggest the IRENE chicken sandwich. Very tasty! We went to Forest Hill grill for brunch. We started with brunch cocktail. The Bloody Mary mix had a funny taste, good garnishes. We all three ate brunch menu specials. Eggs Benedict and Oyster Benedict. One of my eggs was cooked perfectly, the other was hard, bleck. The breakfast potatoes were cold and over cooked. All three egg dishes were topped with something they called Hollandaise but it tasted like cheese whiz - it was horrible! Hollandaise is everything to an eggs Benedict so I will not be eating there again. The wait staff was good. read more

Not a place I would go eat steak - I'm picky about mine. The Belmont Grill is much like Huey's except they have a more extensive menu (that doesn't change). It's is one of those joints where you go and have a nice quick simple meal or hang out by the bar with a few regulars. It's cheap, it's tasty, consistent and friendly. There is a reason why they're crowded all the time - certainly every time we're there - and we're no celebrities :) It's not the cleanest feeling place. It's not dirty... the air inside just feels heavy and oily lol. Maybe it's just me - yes, I have some issues :D But I do return for their hamburger (which btw, is actually better then Huey's - juicier!), their fish sandwich is YUMZ. The service is consistent - they're mostly friendly and chatty sometimes - if it's not super busy - and I can't say I've had a bad meal ever in there. read more

This restaurant is one that my son and I fairly frequent. Chicken tenders, hot dogs, and grilled cheese are on the kiddie menu, and if you have kids, know that that can't be beat. I highly recommend the black eyed pea dip. I know that it sounds disgusting, but it's fabulous. Black eyed peas, artichokes, and cheese. Yum. The french onion soup is also very good with just the right amount of cheese, croutons, and onions. We've had the tamales and they are pretty standard. Not bad, but nothing like the ones that you can get at Hicks in Clarksdale (which are hands down the best ever). The stuffed baked potato is pretty good as a side, but I have had it a few times and the potato has been a little dry. The burgers are fantastic. I do agree with the one reviewer that says the burgers are better than Hueys. I realize that is sacrilege to say here in Memphis, but I do feel that it's true. No beers on tap, but they do have some good bottled choices. Belmont grill is dark inside, but I like how you have your own private little booths. We've always had great service - waiters and waitresses recognize and remember you if you are a regular and go out of their way to make sure you have everything you need during your meal. read more

We tried this place because of a recommendation from our realtor. I ordered the steak sandwich and my wife ordered a tuna fillet salad. The kids just got burgers and chicken. The service was fantastic! Our waitress was friendly, helpful, and always there to check on us. The lady at the door who sat us greeted us as we came in and sat us immediately. The steak sandwich was a thin steak put between two slices of french bread. Not chopped, just laid there. The ends were over cooked and the middle was raw. I mean, raw raw, like rubber and cold. The tuna fillet on the salad was lightly seared and completely raw on the inside. Like sushi. I choked down my steak but my wife had to send her tuna back to be cooked longer. The waitress took it back with no complaint, they cooked it to order, and brought it back. We might give this place another chance. Maybe the cook was new or asleep at the wheel. I've eaten here several times and can't really say that the food has been anything but average at best except for the chicken wings. My last meal at the Belmont was the fish sandwich. It was grilled swai, which I think is similar to catfish. The fish itself was very good and had they put this on a hoagie roll it would have been an outstanding sandwich but they didn't...They put this relatively large filet of fish on this tiny hamburger roll and there was absolutely no way to eat this thing by hand. My wife had the burger which was average at best, also on a very small roll. Hey Belmont, if you're reading this, spring for some hoagie roll's. That fish sandwich would be a 9 if it were on a nice fresh hoagie roll. read more

I have visited this restaurant dozens of times in the 6 years it's been open as the Forest Hill Grill. Except for maybe the very first visit, I have always parked 'in the back' and come 'in the back' door. I, and everyone else I know, was encouraged to do so by the manager Steve Barzizza. There were bigger parking spots, it's easier to get in and out of that lot, etc. I came in the back door for my 50th birthday party with 40 friends. I have brought every visiting family member to this restaurant, through the back door. No problem. I've never been to this restaurant and not seen more people come in the back than the front door. It's what everyone does, and has done so for years. Unfortunately Steve B. had to resign his position a few years ago for health reasons, but I have continued to come to this restaurant, and park in the back and come in the back door. Until today. I/we arrived at 10:57 AM (according to my Fitbit) for brunch, and came in the back door; they don't open until 11am and I know that. I have often arrived a few minutes before opening time and never had a problem. The door was unlocked and I've used that door exclusively for 6 years and never had a problem. Once we got inside, I saw the current manager behind the bar and smiled at him. He yelled at me from across the restaurant 'WE'RE NOT OPEN' and I said 'I know' and pointed at my watch and said 'can we wait a few min...' and that was all I got out of my mouth. He pointed at the back door and screamed 'OUTSIDE' and then 'GO AROUND FRONT WITH EVERY BODY ELSE'. Our drive to the back lot did not take us past the front door so I was unaware there was anyone waiting outside. I certainly wasn't trying to cut in line; I was only doing what I (and literally hundreds of others) have done dozens of times, without ever ever having any incident or confrontation like I received today. (Once we left we did drive past the front door, and there were maybe 6 or 7 people waiting.) Mr. Manager, if you don't want customers using the back door, then you can A) lock the back door, or B) put up a sign that says 'employees only' or 'customers go around front please', or something to that effect. Anything has to be better than what you did today, which was to scream at us for coming in your back door, in a tone I wouldn't even so much as use with my dog. Mr. Manager, I wish you could have seen the traumatized and mortified looks on the faces of your employees that were standing behind you today. I can only hope that you do not explode at your employees like you do your customers, but by the looks on their faces today, I'm pretty sure you do. Get some help, you need it. read more
