The catfish was well seasoned, and the salad toppings paired nicely. I was excited for the cornbread that each dish was served with, but it was very dry and low-key hard to swallow. My boyfriend ate it without complaint, but I really wanted to like it. My boyfriend ordered the Blackened Salmon Plate with a side of Collards. We split a side of Sweet Potato Fries that were simple yet delicious. However, I'm not a fan of how much plastic they use. Each patron is served a drink in a plastic take-home Soul Fish Cafe cup. If you need a refill, you get another plastic cup. I can't imagine the amount of cups that they have to order and serve on a daily basis. I'd be open to coming again and would love to see them swap to a more sustainable drinking option.

Unfortunately, mine arrived with chunky raw onions, a few tomatoes, and not much else. The bright flavors that make avocado toast shine were missing. The sourdough bread, however, was perfectly toasted and had a great texture. Eggs Both dishes were ordered with eggs cooked over hard. Both arrived over easy. That's a simple request that should have been easy to execute. Salmon Benedict Presentation was nice, but the seasoning department apparently took the morning off. Salmon naturally has great flavor, but it still needs something. A squeeze of lemon, a touch of cracked pepper, sea salt, fresh herbs--anything. The salmon was bland, and the hash brown casserole followed the same theme. Breakfast Potatoes We ordered potatoes with grilled onions and received potatoes topped with the same chunky raw onions that appeared on the avocado toast. Not exactly what was expected. Now for the stars of the show... the drinks. The Mimosa was delicious, refreshing, and exactly what brunch should be. The Sidecar deserves special recognition. When the bartender admitted they had to Google how to make it, I became a little nervous. Turns out I had no reason to be. That Sidecar was fantastic and easily the best thing that hit our table all morning. Whoever made it absolutely knocked it out of the park. Final Verdict The Toasted Yolk has potential, but the kitchen needs to become friends with seasoning. The ingredients were there; the flavor was not. A few simple additions--lemon, pepper, salt, herbs, and attention to cooking eggs correctly--would have dramatically improved the experience. Will I return? Yes. The drinks were excellent, the atmosphere was pleasant, and there's enough on the menu to give it another chance. Next visit, I'll be ordering something different and hoping the kitchen brings a little more flavor to the table.

I have loved Belmont in the past. A commitment in the area found me rediscovering one of my favorite old restaurants. I went one night and had a lovely meal with drinks. I went back a few nights later and had a horrible experience. This time I wanted barbecue shrimp... the kind that is grilled with a buttery sauce... not barbecue sauce. I asked the waitress if the barbecue sauce was buttery; she said yes. I asked the waitress if the shrimp was grilled; she said yes, CHARGRILLED. She brought out 2 skewers of undercooked shrimp with barbecue sauce poured over the top of them (not a grill mark on them). Who DUMPS barbecue sauce on something AFTER they cook it??? They looked like skinned baby fingers with pale blood poured on top. I was literally nauseated looking at them and there was no way in hell I was going to eat one (this is coming from someone that eats raw oysters and sushi). The waitress took them back and was going to bring me gumbo, but the manager came back out and brought with her the plate with the bloody baby fingers and placed it by me. She said she wasn't allowed to take anything back just because I didn't like the way it looked and that I didn't even try them. I told her that I couldn't try them for fear of throwing up all over the dinner table AND that I had clarified by concerns with the waitress before I ordered. Manager said too bad, they were mine and I would have to pay for them because I ordered them. The manager later brought the cook out to harass me and tell me the sauce was a butter sauce (never mind that it was a pale red color). And then she came over again to tell me she had eaten one of my shrimp and it was delicious. Again... I wouldn't have had this issue had the waitress been honest about the dish. The sauce was clearly barbecue and the shrimp were clearly NOT chargrilled. My only regrets are that I didn't take a picture of the dish and that I didn't take a bite and throw it up all over their table. read more

Forest Hill Grill didn't disappoint! The service was fantastic--super friendly and attentive. They stop serving brunch at 3pm, so I went for the Pimiento Cheeseburger with onion rings, and it was delicious. The burger was perfectly cooked medium-rare, juicy, and the pimiento cheese took it to the next level. The onion rings were crispy and golden--just how they should be. To drink, I had a Pineapple Juice Mimosa and a Forest Mule, both of which were super refreshing. The mimosa was a fun twist with the pineapple juice, and the mule was just the right balance of flavors. This spot is definitely a must-try--I'll be back soon! read more

The place looks like a Belmont Grill, but, the flavor of the burgers is awesome. Go for the vegetarian burger, which has a Portobello mushroom stuffed with cheese. It's delicious. Avoid the lemonade unless you want to have a diabetic attack, and go for the regular french fries, not the cheese ones. read more

The Hushpuppies were cold and hard and the corn nuggets were underdone and sucked too. The cheesesteak thing was bad too. Just clumped up nasty. Server said the turnip greens were "great", but they were not. No seasoning to speak of, no meat or fat of any kind, just kind "soulless" if you will. We could not leave fast enough. Then our server disappeared like forever. We went to the front and stood at the registers for close to 10 minutes before another server comes and lets us pay for the food we did not eat. I went in with high expectations as it seems to be the only fancy spot for a long distance around. Also, I was a fan of the previous restaurant in this building, Vinegar Jim's. The service was friendly and the drinks were surprisingly good, though their cocktail menu is primarily sweet beachy drinks which I don't prefer. We started with the BBQ shrimp and burnt ends plate, both of which were excellent. My girlfriend and brother both got the Debris Samich, which I liked but they did not as the bun was rather soggy. I thought it tasted good and was happy to treat it as a knife and fork sandwich. I had the 38-day dry aged prime ribeye- which was offered at a great price for the quality and the treatment of the meat. The center was cooked exactly how I ordered it, but around the outside the meat somehow appeared to be raw while simultaneously having a burnt crust on the outside. I was underwhelmed because even though most of the steak was great the burnt bits turned me off. We had a few desserts, and my favorite was the butter cake. They're definitely worth a try. Good food, good prices, and friendly service.

Wait, before I go any further! The sweet tea is the best I have had in a long time. It is served in a mason jar, and it taste like it was brewed in a tea kettle by your grandma. It is a must try if you are ever in the area. On to the food! I started with the New Orleans BBQ Shrimp. It comes with jumbo shrimp sauteed in a bold, buttery sauce infused with garlic, Worcestershire sauce, Cajun spices, and a hint of lemon. It comes with French bread. I enjoyed this dish even though I didn't taste much BBQ sauce. It's more like shrimp scampi if I am being honest. The bread was definitely buttery and good! For my meal I had the crawfish lasagna and collard greens for the side. The greens definitely have that southern homecooked taste. The lasagna was the start of the show for sure. I tried it because I never had it before and they did their thing! It was loaded with tones of crawfish, peppers, onions, cheese, and cajun sauce. This is worth every penny spent. I wish it was closer, I would be there weekly, lol! They have so much on the menu that I want to try. Loved my experience and I can't wait to go back!

The hostess seated my wife & I and our server Carter did N excellent job for us. The restaurant is large and well spaced out. It is also clean and the ambiance is a home type feel. We started with the Fried pickles cooked in fresh oil and came out hot. The country dip is good. Basically roast beef cut up and provolone melted cheese on top within a roll plus an au jou dipping sauce. It's chunkier than a normal French dip but it is good. Flavor wise, it was average and could have been seasoned a bit more. The beef is barely above the bland side as far as pot roast beef is concerned. However, combined together the components elevate the sandwich. It's worth the try to see if one would like it. French fries were good and freshly lightly salted. Cole slaw was basic. Not too creamy but also not sweet. My wife got the fettuccini Alfredo with grilled chicken. It was good and you will notice the grilled flavoring on the chicken. For me, the food could have benefited from a bit more seasoning but that is subjective. The meals were well worth the cost and Pop's deserves to be on anyone's go to eateries if you want good comfort dining.
