It's nice to be able to safely go out to eat. Good physical distancing enforced and everyone is masked unless eating. The atmosphere was relaxing; Forge has an outdoor area with fires and a nice view of the water. The pizza was as you would expect: tasty, but nothing mind blowing. We ordered the Fat Boy and Mushroom pizzas (pictures attached). The truffle fries, on the other hand, were amazing (so good I forgot to take a picture before diving in). Definitely give these a try. I called to inquire about making a reservation. Immediately, I was told that they could just email everything to me -- nothing else. It was a brief conversation that lasted seconds despite being transferred to the reservation line when I called. I got the impression they didn't care enough to be proactive and initiative to accommodate on the phone. It was lacking customer service and eagerness to assist. I wanted to be optimistic about it despite the tone of not wanting to assist further on the phone. I was told they'd email me for more info. I wait around and check my email and never got a response after several days. I've been to Forge before -- it's a nice restaurant with good food and service from my last visit. The best part about Forge Pizza is that it's in the heart of Jack London Square where there's a bunch to do and see. I like how they have a big patio with a fire pit for those cold days. It's on a corner so it's a cool roost to people watch. The food was average--can never go wrong with fried goodness and pizza. Minds were not blown the day I went though. While the cheese curds were tasty, they'll never be as good if you've been to Wisconsin for the real deal (I'm talking squeaky delicious). Well, i hate to not give a good review but unfortunately it was lacking all types of flavor. The salad was pretty lackluster and had little to no dressings, plus it's $6 to add shrimp and they literally gave me 4 tiny little shrimp which i felt was steep. The wings were fine and the pizza wasn't bad either, but the angel hair pasta tasted like nothing and needed so much more flavor. The setting was lovely, near the water on Jack London Square. One had the choice of sitting inside or outside (outside is better!), which is nice. The service was perfectly fine. However, when I go to a restaurant, I want the food to be really good. Unfortunately, the food here was not, thus only three stars. My companion and I split the fried mozzarella. It was really greasy, not very enjoyable. He had the fish and chips, again, really greasy to the extent that after the meal he said he felt a bit ill from too much grease. I had the soup of the day, "cream of tomato". The cream was impossible to find and the tomato tasted as though they had leftover pizza sauce and threw it in the soup. Blah. The best thing about this place is its great ambience. Servers were nice and helpful. Apart from that, the food is good - we tried the Fat Boy pizza which is tasty, not too saucy, and you don't feel heavy after eating it. The appetizers were standard, though the portions not as big as I expected (but still filling). The Caesar salad comes out with big romaine leaves and a knife for you to cut them yourselves, presumably to show you that it's not from a pre-made pack :). I enjoyed my meal here, it's a nice place to just sit and talk. Next time, I would probably opt out of appetizers and just try another pizza (many on the menu that look awesome). read more

The food at this place is DELICIOUS. Service is HORRIBLE; starting from the hostess. I have been to this place twice now and the same hostess (Latina looking) has been rude both times. The service to the table takes forever to place your order, very slow; we had to wave at our server a few times; I don't even know if they know they work there. Our pizza was pretty good too! The salami wasn't really that spicy but the sauce was very interesting. Instead of using marinara or pesto they used a garlic puree which was too good to be true. I normally don't like thin crust pizza but I think it really worked for the flavor of the pizza. Our server also recommended we get an app, and since we were doing a calorie splurge on pizza and beer, we decided to go all out and order the cheese curds. They were amazing. They're basically like mozzarella sticks except the breading is light and crispy and you don't feel weighed down as you would with a whole plate of mozzarella sticks. Our party of over 20 people were met with amazing service form our server Monica and we were sat early, even though we did not have our whole party there yet. We ordered appetizers and drinks first and Monica told us that since we are a large party that if we ordered Pizzas then it would come out relatively at the same time and would be the best for our size. I told her that we will probably be ordering everything and we did not fuss about things coming out at the right time. My friend and I came here on Sunday evening on Memorial weekend. It was packed but we were seated within a few minutes of arriving. Love that they have ample outdoor space. Here's what we ordered: Crispy Cheese Curds - $9 Lightly battered, perfectly fried bites of cheese. Need I say more? This was my favorite of the dishes we tried. Margherita Pizza - $15 Just OK. Crust was cooked nicely (I personally like a little char) but flavor was meh. G.O.A.T. Pizza - $23 I expected a mouthful of flavor from the goat cheese, garlic, and fennel, so I was surprised to find that this pizza was pretty bland. It was my least favorite thing we ordered. Not on Mai Tai (cocktail) - $13 Pretty decent, if you like almond flavor (I do). Not overly sweet! My friend is more of a Mai Tai connoisseur, and she said that this one was different, in a good way. Mexican Mule (cocktail) - $13 Ew. Stick to the cocktails listed on the menu. I will say that the service here was great! Monica, our server, was very friendly and communicative. She let us know immediately that the kitchen was slammed and the wait time for food might be longer than normal. (The wait ended up only being 20-30 minutes, by the way.) Recipe is simple but it was delicious and the best out of the other dishes we ordered. If you order bread its only $2 more. The flat bread was good when it came out piping hot. The mussels came with fries. Taste is decent and price for mussels was more than reasonable. Lastly we ordered the chicken wings as the table next to us ordered it and when the server brought it out you can smell the aroma. It smelled really good. Ordered the fried cheese curds based on other reviews and that we love fried cheese. Torn between a few of the pizzas we last minute just got a Fat Boy - sausage, bacon, pickled pepper, red onion. Disappointed in the cheese curds; they were ok but didn't meet the hype. Same for the pizza; everything was falling off the slice and was too wet. Maybe we should've gotten another pizza that might have more flavor. The best thing that stood out and interestingly not advertised except on their About Us page of their website is their dough has natural leaven. That flavor comes through in the crust and it's good. Also, try to avoid the booths behind the bar at sunset. The sun was blinding through the windows. Who goes to a pizza place for a late lunch and decides to try a salad? Ummmm... I do. It started off a bit rocky, not going to lie. I waited at the front desk like a leper for someone to greet me. But when I was finally greeted (by a lovely guy who was obviously off duty -receipts and cash in hand), I was offered a booth. He noticed the crumbs on the table and insisted he wipe it down for me. He also wiped the seats (because, duh, crumbs go there too), made sure I was settled and had everything needed before vacating. I didn't feel rushed or inconvenient for a moment. So if this is how the staff acts when they're done for the day, I was excited!! The butter lettuce salad with white vinegar, apples and blue cheese called to me. Slap some salmon on that and call it lunch! I considered asking for the salmon to be prepared medium to medium rare, this is a pizza place after all. But I needn't worry. It was cooked perfectly. And by perfectly I mean, they should seriously consider training others on how to properly prepare salmon! Normally salmon calls for bubbles but the Kolsch caught my eye and I asked to try it and within seconds had my sample. I decided to be crazy and get a Kolsch and I was not disappointed! In my defense it's conveniently located near one of my friends. If you're interested in the food, it's decent but overpriced. Service is hit or miss. Unfortunately there is one bartender that is never friendly and makes you feel like you're an inconvenience. My bad experiences include arriving prior to the end of happy hour being seated and waiting and then being charged full price because our order got put in less than 10 minutes after happy hour ended. My last, and hopefully final visit to Forge resulted with an almost inedible meal. I ordered the salad with lemon vinaigrette. It tasted like it was just covered in a mild olive oil, no lemon to be found. So I asked for balsamic vinegar but I made it worse since the vinegar tasted so cheap and acrid. I got the "roasted" carrots which came in a pool of oil, as if to deep fry them in the oven. The waitress told me it was the coriander oil. There appeared to be a few seeds in the swimming pool but the oil just tasted like oil. They were kind enough to take it off the bill.
