I can't believe I'm going to right this review... this place clearly change and not for the better... For 10 years I've came to this establishment. For only 1 thing and that was for the Kimchi fried rice. It was once such an amazing dish! Even when ordered to go! The original version was overfilled up to the rim on the to go box and it was always enough for 2 people to be full off of! But now it's a terrible shame that it's barely enough to even feed 1 person. It's pretty much like 1 scoop of rice that just spread out thinly. And clearly nowhere near the former amount like the box is less than 1lb and 90% empty, it's also saturated in butter and super bland now with no traces of the once amazing kimchee flavor and ZERO amount of spice. Sadly I won't be going back to this place anymore. The heart and soul of this place is gone. read more

This place been around for long time and 4 of us were there this past weekend (8/21)- 3 of us first time here. The place is nice in that it has a lot of alcoholic drinks options and a pretty decent size menu of items to choose from. The spaghetti with meat sauce is as expected for an Asian take on spaghetti. I like how big the "steak" patty was. The curry was low on beef and the taste was avg. it was similar to something you can make at home - which was agreed by all of us. The omelette was nice and the egg with bacon was good. I think for the price the quantity was there but not sure if I think it's better than avg taste. Therefore I settle with a 3. Though I have to say we did have a particular request of a salad with a different sauce and they were very nice to accommodate. So definitely the service was there. read more

I used to come here often when I was in college and I'm grateful that Fort St George and Maekawa are still here! Because of the corona virus, Chinatown was so quiet and restaurant was close to empty. 3 people at the bar, 2tables at dining. As soon as I walked in, the host/the server was eating at front and she was munching while she was seating us. I'm not sure if that was professional. My beef curry was disappointing and came with two pieces of carrots and two chunks of beef. $3.25 to add chicken katsu..etc. I wish they put potato or onion to look my beef curry little bit better. I feel like food quality, restaurant environment, service are downhill compare to several years ago. My friend's omu-rice looks good so I'll try this plate next time. read more

*this review is from pre-covid* Fort St. George is one of those Japanese comfort food restaurants that have been in the neighborhood forever, but I have only recently re-discovered them. And I am SO glad that I did. The last time I visited Fort. St. George was probably 3+ years ago, but when I came for lunch the other day, I was pleasantly surprised. They do have odd hours, so keep that in mind. They are only open for lunch from Fri-Sun, and the rest of the time, they are open for dinner after 5pm and stay open pretty late, which is perfect for those of you who like to grab a bite post-concert or games. I ordered their curry rice with 3-toppings, in which I chose katsu, hamburger steak/patty, and bacon + eggs. Portion was absolutely ginormous, so I was surprised I managed to finish the whole thing. Another recent favorite of mines is the garlic mayo spaghetti with meat sauce. I can't even begin to describe how much I love this dish. The garlic mayo completes the spaghetti and I could eat it all day long. I also highly recommend the melon soda - it's topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream so what more can you ask for?? A fun little izakaya with Japanese comfort food. There are definitely dishes found here that you cannot get at other places as they are mostly associated with at-home meals or childhood. My dad has been coming to this place for nearly over a decade and whenever I take my friends here, even those who grew up locally, they are sometimes shocked that such a "hidden" place exists considering they've seen the "Pink Gorilla" sign, directly below the restaurant, so many times. Located right in chinatown, close to the light rail, major stadiums, and one of the bigger asian supermarkets, I suspect many people have passed by this little gem. Nonetheless, we enjoyed many dishes: Kashiwa Senbei ($9): We liked this one so much we ordered another one! Very crispy and doesn't feel as heavy as karaage Meat sauce w/ Garlic Mayonnaise ($12.5): The flavors were really there! Definitely comfort food and the portions are pretty good. This place gives off the most authentic local vibes of a typical Japanese neighborhood dive than any other Japanese restaurant in Sesttle. Nothing fancy, just great comfort food. The taste of Doris really brings me home. Doria is a Japanese style risotto stewed in white sauce and cheese. I took a bite and felt the texture was a little soft so I broke the meat into pieces and found some places to be raw. Also, food is subjective just like a lot of things in life. There's dishes here I can't find anywhere else in seattle. Service is great, (if you're patient) because they get real busy. The hamburger steak was very pink inside. I was afraid to continue eating it, so I stopped and just ate the pork cutlet. Here is the photo attached. I came by to get out of the heat and have a beer and some salted beef tongue with sprinkles of seven spice peppers with a nice salad. A trendy spot located in the heart of International district. The restaurant is located on the second floor. It's easy to find as you will see signs leading up to the entrance. They serve Japanese cuisine and have a full bar as well. I like to come here when I want to have a casual sit down dinner with friends. My favorite dishes here are the Omurice (fluffy omelette over tomato rice), Curry over rice or spaghetti, or grilled mackerel bento box. They have a great selection of cocktails and beers on tap as well. My favorite go-to cocktail is the King St. Lemonade. Light and refreshing! If you're looking for a relax place to eat or grab a late night alcoholic beverage then this is the spot in the international district,but if you need ada access then this is not a good spot because they are on the second floor with no elevator. I have been coming here for years. Their food and service have been consistent. I always order the shrimp and mushroom doria. Normally I would order to go, but it was date night with the fiancé yesterday so I dined in and tried a few other items on the menu. Their items are reasonably price. Fort St. George is located on the second floor of the 601 S King St building - truly a hidden gem. On a weekday dinner, the restaurant had a nice dimly-lit, relaxed atmosphere and great views of the heart of International District. The thing that I really wanted to try was the casserole dish because I never had a Japanese casserole before. So I got the shrimp and mushroom casserole as well as the unagi donburi. The casserole was a little disappointing but maybe I had high expectations for it. It was just basically rice (not risotto like it stated) with mushroom and shrimp smothered in cheese. So nothing spectacular. The unagi was pretty good as it came with two decent size eel in a bowl of rice and miso soup. The sauce the eel was in was tasty, similar to teriyaki sauce. When the waitress brought it out I started eating the saba. My wife was going to start eating her hamburger steak, but then noticed it was very raw in the center. She told me to check mine, and it was also E. coli-sue-their-pants-off-because-you-almost-died-from-eating-raw-steak-at-Sizzlers bloody raw. We both like our steaks medium rare, but hamburger; not so much. We mentioned it to the waitress and she apologized and had the kitchen redo our hamburger steaks. Out they came some 15 minutes later. This is located in a small mall upstairs and it is not that hard to find with the view from the windows. The hostess greets you at the door and asks how many and seats you accordingly. The area is pretty large and is separated into two areas. I really miss this place from my trip to Seattle. I can say this place was a bit pricey but it is so worth it. My friend had the spaghetti and I had the cold soba noodles. We each had a drink as well, I had the Tokyo mule and my friend had a special mixed drink. The atomsphere was full of good fun and great laughs. Everyone was really enjoying their time. I believe they close their kitchen around 11pm. So they do ask for any last minute calls. I typically just get one of the curry-rice variants, an appetizer, and some fairly priced whiskey/Scotch - and call it a meal. Favorite go-to both by myself and with friends. Pretty decent izakaya food. The soju is way overpriced though. They do have s decent sochu selection. Why come here? You want a relaxed izakaya joint to hang out with friends. Reviewing for: Spot for Easy Drinks Location: It's in the heart of the ID so parking is a little crazy. We usually park up the street and walk down to avoid having to pay so much and the crowd. Food/Drinks: The drinks are what you expect, cheap, strong, and quick. There's usually space at the bar and you can order food there if you'd like. We've had the food previously and it's GOOD (spaghetti!) Space: The space is pretty big and they have gendered bathrooms each with multiple stalls. Not the cleanest but they're functional. The bar is a bit fenced off and has roughly 6 seats.   Tips and Tricks and Covid Deets: They're serious about checking Vax cards which I appreciated! From listening to the people ahead of us, they don't accept one vaccination and need ID to match. They are a Japanese Coffee shop but they are doing Bento combo entrees where you can choose which two main meat or Saba or Fried Fish you want. They have Tonkatsu, JP Spaghetti, Veggie Croquettes, Smoked Salmon with capers, sauteed Calamari, Chicken Karaage, Grilled Beef tougue, Kaki Fried Oysters, Tempura, Mentaiko Omelette with Spicy Roe, Garlic French Fries, Buta Pork Kimchee and Fried Veggies on an Iron plate. Teriyaki, JP Salads, Curries, Donburi, Fried Rice with Omelette, Fried Rice with Pork, Nabeyaki Udon, Zaru Soba, Shoyu Ramen. They expanded their menu and added more traditional JP dishes. They have some Specialty Cocktails and regular alcoholic drinks like Sake, Vodka, Jim Beam, Gin etc. But I don't drink. So You would need to try them yourself. My waiter tonight was extra friendly and from Osaka originally. I had a long converaation with him when it was slower about Japanese culture and my background being Japanese American born in Seattle. The background music is always trendy. Tonight's music was alternative Jazz and then changed to more trendy tracks. Before years ago, they had dance music blaring. So the regular customers used to very young people and some Asian Social Justice Community folks. I brought my White friends here after we met at the Chinese New Yr Street Fair about 3 or 4 years ago. Met up with a few buds here to have dinner and hang out for a while. It's in the upstairs part of the building, so as you enter just go up a flight of stairs and it's right there. I've never been here before but heard some good things about this spot. Kind of a divey place but in a good way, nothing fancy about it, just sit and have some drinks and eat some food. We were all pretty hungry so we ordered a bunch of stuff! As for appetizers, we got the spicy and non spicy fried chicken. Both were equally good...spicy wasn't too spicy but it does come with this awesome mayo dipping sauce that is super tasty. The non spicy just comes with salt & pepper mixture to dip it in, but it's ok to use the mayo from the spicy to dip as well....not confusing, you'll get it. Chicken was very good, it's more chicken strips and not on the bone. I totally could've eaten a bucket of this. Also for appetizer, we got the sautéed squid in butter. I hope you like butter because it is just that, squid cooked in butter with a mayo dipping sauce. haha! love it! Butter and Mayo....oh yea! As for mains, I lost track of all the dishes we ordered, because we would order more & more food. But we did get the Kimchi Fried Rice with an Omelet topper. Not spicy but flavorful and it was good, and satisfied that rice craving. Pork Cutlet Curry with Rice: basically a fried piece of pork topped with curry over rice! I liked it, and this went fast as everyone else was diving into it too! Curry sauce was flavorful so just take a piece of pork and mop it up. Spaghetti with hamburger steak & meat sauce: meat on meat sounds good to me! I really liked the hamburger steak patty, kinda meatloaf like too. Definitely not Italian tasting even though it looks like it. It was very good, and quite comfort feeling when eating this. Enoki Mushrooms & Broccoli Spaghetti: Pretty simple dish, but it was tasty! Oh they add butter to this too, so of course we liked it. This was our vegetable dish, and we couldn't get enough spaghetti and needed more noodles. Get the Tarako Pasta....oh my!!! Shrimp & Baby Scallop Doria: It's like a casserole, baked, cheesy, creamy with good amount of shrimp & scallops with rice on the bottom. I've never had something like this before but I sure enjoyed it. I know we got a few more other dishes that I cant remember and was too busy stuffing my face. The food is very home-style, something your mama would cook, so it was nice having a meal like this. Everything we tried, we all enjoyed and wanted more and more. Service was fine, one girl was pretty much working the entire dining room, but she was a beast and kept up and delivered food quickly and don't hesitate if you need to flag her down as she will get you what you need. Drinks were on the stronger side and tasty with interesting concoctions,beer options available, and they do make some dessert drinks that we didn't get to try. Whenever I'm in Seattle, I always crave Fort St. George for some reason. It's excellent, cheap, home-style Japanese fusion food. Think again, it's delicious! When I was young, I used to melt cheese on rice (with Korean food lol) and my friends always thought it was the weirdest thing. But, you will know what I'm talking about when you try their doria dish. It's a Japanese-style risotto with your choice of meat or veggie. It's a plate of amazing cheesy goodness! (Warning, it will only be good if you actually like cheese, obviously). Their spaghetti is just plain with traditional meat sauce but it really hits the spot for some reason! I don't know why I like it so much.. The hamburger steak is also delicious, it's an Asian fusion of a meat loaf! Just try it. You can't beat the price and the portions are pretty hefty. The interior is outdated and old, so it's not a place you come to enjoy the atmosphere. It's probably more of a quick bite kind of place in my opinion. They actually have a pretty good selection of interesting cocktails(most are on the sweeter side) if you feel like having a drink! The restaurant is a little hidden on the second floor so you might have a hard time finding it. But there is a noticeable pink neon sign on their window that you can see from outside. FSG is where all the other restaurant workers end up at the end of their shift. No joke! If you haven't been to FSG in a while, the décor looks tired, and they're trying to spruce it up a bit. But, really, this is where a lot of your servers, cooks, and others in the food and drink industry end up. It's an unassuming spot in the ID with good eats, and flowing drinks. There are a lot of entrees that are quintessentially Japanese (no, not sushi or sashimi), but doria, the Japanese version of spaghetti, ketchup chicken fried rice, etc... My personal favorite is the Japanese style hamburger steak with house soy based sauce. Any of the curry dishes are good, the appetizers are all good. Ummm...actually, we haven't found anything we don't like here! So just come hungry and you won't be disappointed. And it won't hit you in the pocketbook like a sushi restaurant. read more

Recently went for New Years got some spicy cheesy fries which was delicious happy the fries weren't super spicy and of course for the entree I had to try the pasta which I got the tarako spaghetti and it was very delicious! Got dessert some fried ice cream honestly not my favorite thing . For drinks we ordered some cocktails and I of course got the strawberry cream soda which comes with a scoop of ice cream and it's yummy always.
