Our family has previously dined at this restaurant and never had any concerns until last week! The restaurant advertises having Gluten Free options and yet one of our family members who's Celiac got very I'll after his dinner! It's difficult to dine out when you have to worry about being served contaminated food! Very unfortunate that restaurant management doesn't take individual allergies seriously when o ensure that kitchen staff and waiting staff are knowledgeable enough to serve Gluten Free food. We stopped here for lunch, it was delicious! Started with the Gouda fritters, only four are pictured of the 6 you get in an order. We devoured two of them as soon as they hit the table. I had the grilled Romain Caesar salad. Candied bacon, pickled onions and their homemade dressing made this the perfect lunch salad. I wish I could have taken the drawing home! The hubs had their burger and fries, said it was delicious as well. The fries seemed double fried, with an amazing texture and flavor. Cozy atmosphere, they share space with fortify pi. We are so glad we visited Fortify on our last night in the area. Everything about our experience was top notch! The hostess, owner, and waiter were so accommodating and welcoming. (And we have five kids!) They gave us the best table in the place, moved our reservation up over an hour (this was my hope) and called me to let me know! I was very pleased and enjoyed my dining experience at Fortify kitchen! The outside and inside of the restaurant has a rustic yet modern feel to it. There is a waiting table outside and 2 benches inside next to the front door. There is also a dazzling full bar in the restaurant perfect to relax and have light conversation. For seating there are half booth/table and separate tables provided. Right when my boyfriend and I entered the restaurant the floor of the restaurant was filled with customers. We waited for the hostess for about 3-5 minutes to get us seated to our reserved table. We sat at the half booth half table area. The space was clean and well organized. Shortly after upon getting we were approached by our very nice server, Daniel! He was very welcoming and promptly took our appetizer and drink orders. For drinks we ordered a Budlight and a glass of PJ Valckenberg. And for appetizer we decided to get the Korean fried chicken lettuce wraps. He then guided us through their specials for the night. He explained 2 of the entree specials that sounded delicious so we ordered both. The Cod with red curry sauce served over rice and Halibut served with a tomato sauce, squash, and rice. All of our drinks and food came out in a timely manner. First, we received our side of bread and spread. The homemade cheese was my FAVORITE. It was bursting with flavor and VERY creamy! I ended up buying a small cup to take home to enjoy~ Our appetizer was also just as delicious! The chicken sauce was a little heavy but was balanced out with the considerate amount of slaw that came with the dish. The peanuts also complimented the appetizer providing a nice texture and taste! Next, our entrees came out shortly after finishing our appetizer. The Halibut was juicy and had nice texture, accompanied with a tangy tomato sauce and crunchy/chewy rice. The Cod was also just as juicy and had a nice crunch due to the crust on top. The red curry was also light in taste which I loved, because I am not a big fan on heavy red curry taste. The green yogurt sauce on top was also very delicious with the Cod adding an abundance in flavor. During our entire meal we were checked on frequently by the whole staff and I greatly appreciated that! The entire atmosphere during the meal was also calming and cozy. The dim lighting also added to the mood. I am so sad that this wonderful restaurant is far from where I live but hopefully I will be able to go back soon! Spam Gets Its Proud Moment What comes to mind when you think of Spam? Bland....Mystery Meat, right? Ah, but Chef Sam last night elevated it to new culinary heights. Fortify was offering a fish special - Fluke from North Carolina with an Hawaiian touch. A beautiful whitefish resting on...yep, Spam with a soy/brown sugar glaze. Toss is some great rice and Fortify's version of a yum yum sauce and you have a memorable entree indeed. Who would have thought Spam 'from a can' could contribute in such a tasty way. Horrible experience at Fortify Kitchen & Bar. Had very early reservation for dinner and hostess with a bad attitude tried to seat us at a postage stamp sized table in spite of there being 8 other much larger ones available. Told us the others were reserved even though it was about 2 hours prior to the dinner hour and the place was empty so we left because of this and found another place to spend our $175 for dinner. Passed back by 75 minutes later after dinner and four of the same larger tables were still empty. Had a good experience there about a year ago but apparently, this hostess missed all days of her training. read more

We were in town from Tampa, Florida where we have our share of amazing dining places with creative food and chefs that get it. Fortify Kitchen and Bar exceeded our expectations. We were so happy to say we had lunch from there once and dinner from there twice. We took each meal To-Go due to COVID-19 but I can tell you that the food traveled fantastic and the flavors were GREAT. We had the BEST bahn mi sandwich EVER. The gouda fritters were absolutely fantastic, the scallops were some of the best we have enjoyed and remember, we live in Florida, and the cheese grits they had as a side were yummy! A huge shout-out to manager Jeremy, hostess Morgan, and bartender Tyler. All of them made us feel so appreciated, they respected our space as we have an at-risk family member, and all staff had on masks. Very much the right thing to do as we continue to deal with this health crisis. When we return to Clayton we will FOR SURE return to Fortify. read more

The food here was good. However, the wait time was long! We waited over 30 mins to eat and it was not that busy. In the end, the server took the cake. She was very nice and attentive to us. Looking for a good dinner spot en route to scaly mountain and boy did we find it. This restaurant is wonderful. We had a salad that was spectacular and then had the filet for dinner and the pork loin. The ingredients are fresh and the staff is very attentive and knowledgable. Our server, Kendall was on point. His suggestions were wonderful and he knows when to check on the table or give some privacy. He was truly remarkable and sweet. Thank you for a great meal! Back again just 2 days later and another phenomenal dinner. We had the fortified salad as an app and split it. The infusion of different flavors was genius! Now I know why it ranks high! I have eaten at thousand of restaurants all over the country and this is in my top 10! We ate lunch: quiche special and Cobb salad w/ grilled chicken. This was the second time we've visited within the week! The first time we came, it was a late and they had stopped serving food. So we sat at the bar and had drinks. We didn't think much of it but when we tasted the drinks, wow! They were absolutely amazing! Carlton, the bartender, focuses on farm to bar, so a lot of the ingredients were fresh and really came through in taste. We went back again to try the food. And it was good - not amazing. Our favorite part of the food was maple butter that came with the free bread. It is very sweet but very yummy!! And, the drinks were still amazing! One of the best meals of my life. Fortify caught my eye while I was walking around downtown Clayton, looking for a good place to eat lunch. I was not disappointed. Service: Our server, Adam, seemed a little unsure of himself, but then again we all have bad days. Food: The Mozzerella sticks were not sticks but in fact a circular shape. I thought that they looked sort of like Fried Green Tomatoes from the outside. They were very tasty and were coated with great sauce. The Magherita Pizza was great for sharing with friends, and the Mozzerella cheese on it was great. I highly recommend Fortify for an affordable, high-quality meal in a trendy atmosphere. read more

Service started great but quickly changed. Three times food was brought to our table that was the wrong dishes. By the time I got mine the scallops were cold and rubbery and way too salty. The server never came around to check on us for us to tell her. (She was not the one who brought our dishes to the table.) We asked for another glass of wine before our meal was brought out, it was about 25 minutes before she brought it and we were finished with our meal. We watched her stand at the bar chatting with other servers the whole time. We have been here before and were looking forward to coming back for a celebration dinner. I don't know if it could have been any worse. Places are short-staffed, but three different servers brought our food and the main server stood around doing nothing to enhance the experience. This is hands down the best, nicest meal we've had in a long, long time. The quality of farm-to-table food is right up there with any of the best in Atlanta. We were so pleasantly surprised with this place in downtown Clayton. Drinks--made with care and attention to detail. Ahhhhmazing. Must get the cilantro martini (cannot remember the name!) and the ginger bourbon sour. Appetizer--you absolutely have to get the antipasto tray. I almost cried it was so beautiful. House-made pickled veggies, house-made butters, dips and sauces...various types of cheese and charcuterie, a quail egg, sardines, and more. Never seen this much offered on an antipasto tray. Entrees--hubby really enjoyed the stuffed quail. Plenty of food. I had the pecan-crusted trout and loved every bite. Everything was cooked and seasoned to perfection. Top 10 meal of my life! Decided to take the long way back to Charlotte which took us through the cool little town of Clayton. We found Fortify on Yelp with 4.5 stars but we were completely blown away with the beautiful food and fabulous flavors. The fried green tomatoes looked artistically stunning and tasted wonderful. I'm not a fan of pimento cheese but the Gouda pimento fritters were unbelievable. The five pepper jelly was the perfect pairing. The Pork Chop and Grit Bowl entrees were cooked to perfection and had a wonderful depth of flavors. We live in Seattle and won't be back anytime soon but this is our new favorite restaurant. We were passing through on our way to Gatlinburg and found this wonderful gem. They are farm to table and you can definitely tell in the quality of the meal. We stopped on a Sunday so they were serving brunch. I had the strawberry cream crepes and my boyfriend had the chicken and waffle with buffalo maple syrup. Both meals came with bacon, grits, and hash brown casserole. The crepes were amazing and had a wonderful blend of flavors and the grits were so creamy and smooth. The chicken and waffle was hot and juicy and perfectly tied together with the buffalo maple syrup (sweet & spicy). My boyfriend said he had tried chicken & waffle at a few different places and it was like having two separate meals on the same plate, but here the syrup really tied the whole meal together. Based on the fact that the menu had today's date on it, I am guessing that the menu changes every day, but I will definitely return to see what is on the menu next time we drive through. read more

Every bite was incredible. They start off with yummy bread and whipped flavored butters. Then we shared the Gouda fritters with pepper jelly. I had the rainbow trout, which was cornmeal crusted and cooked to perfection and with a brown butter and pecans. It was served over asparagus and lemony pice pilaf and with a dill pesto sauce. It was incredible! My husband had the marinated lamb. The marinade was sweet and savory, almost like an Asian style marinade. My husband found this place while we were recently up in the area staying with family for the holidays. One night we were lucky enough to have our SIL offer to watch the baby so we could get out for a date night and decided that Fortify was the place for us to go. I am so glad we chose this place. Everything from the ambience, to the service and the food was incredible. Fortify exudes all the characteristics of what a restaurant should have and for a reasonable price. My only complaint is that we only got to visit it once while we were in town.
