After dinner we hopped on the L-train to Brooklyn and the outstretches for dessert. We did get this to go as we were still digesting dinner and not quite ready for dessert. Nestled on the corner in the neighborhood the pastry cases also are displays outside as well which was cool to get a sneak preview before walking in. They weren't busy so we were able to order quickly and get it for the road. We ordered cannoli, cake pops, and Sfogliatella. The cannoli was very good -wasn't overly hard and easy to eat without it shattering and going everywhere. The cake pop wasn't bad. read more

I had been wanting to stop by to try the cannoli and rainbow cookies. I was already going into Williamsburg so after I had lunch, I stopped by. I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to get a parking spot because it seemed to be a bit busy in the area but luckily I found a spot very close to the bakery. The bakery is nice inside and they also have a case with gelato. I picked out a few things including the cannoli and rainbow cookies. I loved the cannoli, it was fresh and not overly sweet. The shells had a nice crunch. The rainbow cookies were really good, and also not overly sweet. I didn't really taste the apricot jam in them, the raspberry kind of overpowered them but still delicious. The service was ok, the young girl helping me wasn't very friendly. I definitely want to go back though. read more

I am not Italian and have no experience with Pastry, but Fortunato's i am quite fond of. Their Cheesecake is what my folks always came here for (Birthday Cake Substitute). And i'm very sure i could identify their Cheesecake in a blind taste test with 110% accuracy. My favorite thing is the cake box with their brand and logo. And that Rainbow Cookie... Hard to explain but, it's a multi-layered cake disguised as a "Cookie". Moist without feeling dense. Firm yet absolutely delicate. A fine destination to end your night for Dessert in the area. Or to pickup along the way from home after school. read more

I usually go to Circos on Knickerbocker Ave. in Bushwick for my Marzipan at Easter time. This time I tried Fortunato Brothers in Greenpoint, Fortunato Brothers is a phenomenal bakery, large selection of pastries, cakes, and all kinds of other goodies. There Marzipan, are some of the most beautiful, works of art, I have ever come across. Except the taste is a little different that I am accustomed to, that's what the consensus was, at the gathering that my house. Definitely will go back to try their pastries and cakes. read more

Hands down! The best bakery, in the heart of Williamsburg, Brooklyn! I have been coming here since I was kid! My favorite is the "Fragola Gelato" (Strawberry Ice Cream). I have been having it here since I was a kid, it's a very flavorful ice cream with a nice texture to it, I get transported back to my days as a kid every time I have it, as the flavor is still the same. I have tried everything from the cakes to the pastries, you will not be disappointed with anything you have here! The customer service is top notch and everyone there is there to help and answer any questions you have. Other favorites of mine include: - Canoli (the best ones I've ever had too) - Napoleon - Lobster Tail - Eclair Anything you try here is delicious! Disclaimer: an Italian here coming from a family who has a bunch of pizzerias but we aren't experts at baking, just experts at eating Italian pastries. You don't have to be an expert to realize that their pastries are not fresh. I have no idea how they have high reviews. Everytime I've been here I've been disappointed. Stopped by for dessert after grabbing dinner not too far from there. I've been hearing about Fortunato's in Williamsburg for a while and glad I finally got to try it. It reminded me a little bit of the Italian bakeries in Bensonhurst and other parts of BK - typical old school style displays when you walk in with some cafe seating on the side. We decided to stay and have cappuccinos while sampling their cannolis and sfogliatella - all pretty good. None of the staff that helped us were Italian like at the other establishments I've been to, but they were cordial and efficient. I'd like to go back to try their rainbow and pignoli cookies to compare them to some of the other establishments. The only down side is if you park it may be difficult to find a spot (we got lucky last night), bit there is a train station very close by. read more

Long overdue review! Beautiful selection of Italian pastries! There was street construction (maybe ConEd?) going on outside when I went so I bought a few cannoli for the construction workers. I was feeling generous and wanted others to experience the deliciousness of this bakery. I've been going to this bakery ever since I was a little girl. This is my second time coming in to try the lobster tails but still no luck. I got a rainbow cookie instead which was pretty good but honestly, the service ruined it for me. The person at the counter was really rude and I tried to be in and out as fast as possible. I also want to note that the website and door says that they close at 11pm, but when I came at 10pm the first time they were closed with no reason. I read other reviews that this happened to them so I know i'm not the only one. Unfortunately I don't think i'll be back to try the lobster tail or any of their other desserts even though they all looked good. read more

If I can give this establishment 0 stars I would. I walked in at 8:35 looking to get a slice of red velvet and sit down and enjoy it real quick with my partner. There were about 4 other couples or pairs of people there. Some inside and some on the exterior still shielded from the cold. Let's start with the cake, no flavor. I've had MANY, slices of red velvet as it's my favorite cake. The bread itself was off and did not taste like your regular red velvet. Next the frosting, GROSS. It tasted like it belonged 100 miles away from red velvet. The size, oh my goodness the tiniest piece of a cake I've ever seen in my life! While charging a normal price relative to other bakeries. Gross. The service -10000/10. I asked for an extra fork so I can stay and eat. Google, yelp and the sign said they closed at 10pm-11pm (varies) and the young woman behind the counter rudely said "you can't stay we're closing in a few minutes". While all other pairs with MORE food, we're relaxing and taking their time. Very disgusting product with the worse service I've ever seen in my life. This place is blacklisted from my bakery spots and for my friends and family. read more

Over the years, my coworkers have gotten birthday cakes from here, and it seems to be hit or miss. Some really hit it out of the park, and others not so much. There's a good variety of Italian American pastries and other specialty desserts, so it's good to have an idea of what you want before heading over. Parking is also an issue, so plan to look around a good 15 minutes to find a spot. read more

What a great bakery! We sat in a really cozy seat in the back corner with plenty of sun light. Delicious food and expresso drinks. We took the recommendation of the pastry assortment. Everything was top notch. Especially the Lobster Tail which is my old favorite. Super creamy and crispy. The rainbow cake is a must try too. Excellent staff service. UPDATE: Their 7 layer cookies are quite possibly the best I've ever had. Perfect balance of chocolate and almond flavored cookie layers. 10/10. The blueberry turnover is also bomb. The fruit filling has the right amount of sweetness without seeming artificial which worked well with its flaky crust. Works well with a cup of their coffee. 10/10. read more

An absolute classic Italian bakery. I was recommended this as one of the best in Brooklyn, and this was not inaccurate! Of particular interest is their rainbow cookie--an Italian classic--but it's a variety I have not seen before, it's more like a cake with a layer of cream in the middle than a standard cookie. Very good! They have a huge selection of standard Italian sweets, bread, and some nice cakes. read more

Horrible service. I placed a fruit tart cake to be put on HOLD since it's New Year's Eve and it's a very popular cake. The girl on the phone asked for my name and said it'll be on hold. I wasted money getting here to find out the same girl who picked up the phone, didn't even put it on hold and that it was SOLD. There were absolutely none left "right now." She then tried to play it off as if she wasn't the one who said she was going to put it on hold. She asked if we wanted a different cake and had the audacity to tell us more about these other cakes. I have been going here for 20 years!!! Basically, just ask for their names so that you can call them out directly! 0/10 read more

We were craving a late night cafe for coffee + a sweet pastry and this place hit the spot! We ordered 2 lobster tails, a mocha cappuccino and a plain cappuccino. The pastries were delicious. Perfectly balanced sweetness and the cream was so fresh and perfectly textured held in a crisp , flaky dough. The coffees were great as well- very smooth. We sat in the back of the restaurant and there was plenty of seating available. Excited to go back (especially for the cream-based pastries!). read more

I have followed Fortunato for years on instagram as I live in California and can't readily access their store. My favorite desserts are rainbow cookies and sfogliatella cookies. I finally decided to spend the money and ship them through Goldbelly for Thanksgiving. The cookies were ok. But the rainbow cookie cake was as hard and dry as a 5 day old piece of toast. I was very disappointed. I am sure their desserts are much better same day from the store, but they shouldn't be shipping nationwide if the product doesn't hold up. We literally had 1 slice of the rainbow cake and threw the rest out. I had very high hopes of ordering, as I would do it again if the quality was there. Shame on me for spending $154.90- won't happen again. read more

I saw online that Fortunato Brothers has the best rainbow cookies, I'm a huge fan of rainbow cookies and I know a good one live in Los Angeles and I've searched. I've been in New York and in Buffalo and tried very good ones. I ordered the rainbow cookie from Fortunato Brothers through gold belly. it cost me an arm and two legs, but let me tell you it was the best rainbow cookie I've ever had. We took a ride to Williamsburg today especially for Fortunato Brothers pastry. I'm from Bensonhurst and we have some excellent bakeries here but I wanted to see what the hype was. Well they did not disappoint! So many beautiful pastries and gelato. I stayed old school with my order. Two different cannoli, napoleon, sfogliatella, a strawberry tart and a lobster tail. The store is bright and clean. They have covered seating outside, which we'll have a seat next time for some gelato which they have quite a few flavors to choose from. The cannoli were wonderful! Got the hubs one with chocolate and nuts on the shell and he was in heaven! The lobster tail had so much rich fluffy cream inside, wonderful The cannoli filling is so good I could eat that alone. I don't think you can go wrong with anything you order here. Next time I'm bringing a cooler so I can bring home some gelato! read more

My only other issue with the dish was that because chocolate shell was used, any residue at the bottom was hard so you have to chisel it if you want to savor any last spoonfuls; I guess that comes with the territory. Manhattan Avenue it still an enclave of Italian Americana. The encroachment of hipster goofballs has not completely saturated this neighborhood. Fortunato Brothers is a homage to a different time when Brooklyn was like its own country. I only wish that Fortunato Brothers lived up to my romanticization of it. I want to walk in and be greeted by Italians. Instead I'm barely greeted by some hood rat girl from the nearby projects who works behind the counter. I want to eat delicious Italian pastries. Instead I eat soggy Sfogiatella that has been in the refrigerator too long. I want to have smooth delicious gelato. Instead I'm fed some farce that their distributor has perpetrated on the public. I want the guy at the table next to me to get whacked by a big guy in a wool suit and felt fedora for skimming from his bosses take. Food is good but had horrible experience with a very young salesperson. I asked for a bag and she refused to give me any bag with my hands full. She advised incorrectly that bags are illegal. She was extremely rude much like many of the young kids today. Fortunatos has ruined me for all other cannolis. I look at every other cannoli I encounter with disgust. I don't know why no one else can make one that even comes close. Came to Sander's to get some kosher baked goods for my coworkers. I really wanted to get some…read moredonuts, but it was too early in the morning, and they were still baking them. Ended up getting some rugelach that were fresh from the oven. The rugelach were a hit in the office. The staff really liked them. My coworker who was kosher really liked them too. A bunch of people just kept eating them throughout the day. The rugelach were delicious. The chocolate was good. The pastry wasn't too sweet. The vanilla ones were great too, but I really liked the chocolate ones the best. They have a dress code that they post in front of the store before you go in. Make sure you wear closed toe shoes, cover your knees, and shoulders. It shouldn't be a problem in the winter though. If you want some good baked goods, Sander's is a great option. If you're like me and wanting to pick up some kosher pastries, I would check which certification your friend/coworker accept as there are many they may or may not eat.

My favorite is what I have pictured below, which is two big Cakey sugar cookies sandwiching a jelly filling. It's a yellow, slightly vanilla batter with a tiny bite like a snickerdoodle has. $2! The pastries are enormous and at an unbeatable price. Cannot wait to go back. Glad it isn't closer because I would put on serious weight.

In general, the gelato is of good quality, being soft but not too much, and it wasn't overly sweet. The pistachio on top was good with some pieces inside for a bit of crunch, though I would say in terms of other fancy gelatos, it's a bit worse than Venchi, as the pistachio flavor isn't as strong. The saffron was the better of the two, being floral enough without being overbearing. Not much else to say here, as I only had those flavors, but I hope they do well.

I looked online for nearby bakeries and they either were well out of our price range, or their reviews were not so great. I decided to give Gaby's a try because their prices were reasonable and their offering was varied. I had one of her roommates pick it up to surprise her. The staff was wonderful when I ordered it, and incredibly kind to her roommate during the pickup. Then the true test came when EVERYONE that was at her party loved the Tres Leches cake!!!! The decor on it was absolutely gorgeous and everyone raved about the taste. There was nothing left but a little piece she set aside to eat for breakfast the next day!! I will definitely be ordering from them again. And my daughter and her friends now stop by to get treats to have with their coffee!
