Went to Fortun's with a group of four. We thought the design was fun and a nice addition to the Old Town La Quinta area. It was hip in a casual way, good for a night on the town or a family event. They have a good bar area and on the other side a pizza bar, with tables inside and out. The owner has made it into a place I would go back to again and again. The food was delicious. We each ordered something different and sampled each others. All of the dishes were served nicely. The staff were friendly and provided good service. read more

Showed up about 6:45 to get something to eat. I was very impressed with the look of the restaurant. Nice tables even better bar stools. It was a little sleepy but it is Tuesday night on the desert. Still there was activity inside and on the patio. Turned out their happy hour goes to 7:00 pm. I ended up ordering the Pilsner Urquell. This beer comes from the Czech Republic. It was a favorite of mine back in the late 70s and early 80s. Back then the beer often times got warm in transit to the United States and had a bit of a skunk smell to it. The beer they served here had no skunk smell to it and was absolutely delicious. I ended up ordering the rotisserie prime rib dip. When the food was delivered I asked for some fresh grated horseradish. The bar back got it to me lickety-split. This was off the happy hour menu and originally I thought it was a little pricey but it was absolutely delicious on the chibata bread it was served on with Swiss cheese. I got the garden salad with the vinaigrette dressing. Outstanding!!! read more

Great atmosphere and friendly staff, even on such a busy night. We took our time ordering entrees after slowly eating out appetizers and our server was patient and helpful with the menu, which has a great variety. Wonderful, delightful place, food was very good, it's a kind of an upscale casual foodie place, the basics, but not off of the SYSCO food truck!, Full bar, some unique martini's, wonderful atmosphere inside and out. I will share some verbiage we encountered upon entering the restaurant...we encountered a mother/daughter leaving, we asked "how was it", the mother replied, the food was rotten. We did pause a few seconds, looked inside, several tables were gleefully munching down .their food and in glancing at what was visible on the patio tables, it all looked good, so we went in...after we got our check we mentioned to our server, Amber what we were told by the mother/daughter...she said they have been in 3 times, order the shrimp scampi, finish it, then complain about how bad it was, get full credit, the third time they were not offered full credit, but a desert instead, they left in in a huff! We have been to Fortun's several times in the last few weeks and it is wonderful! Savannah was our charming hostess and server when we arrived. She remembered our names right off the bat. Cool new place!! Our bartender/server Kenneth was awesome! He had some great vegetarian suggestions for me since a good portion of their menu revolves around meat. Their bar has a frozen strip going through it to keep your cocktails chilled...it is very unique! I had steamed clams and my boyfriend had a beef dip sandwich. Service was terrible at least as far as our waitress was concerned. Non-existent. Other staff had to do everything including making sure our drink order was placed in time for happy hour - because we never saw our waitress! Space is confused. Music is loud, 70s rock. Next to service, the loud music was the worst part about the experience. Big screen TVs with the Monday night football game on. Is it a sports bar? A wine bar? What the hell is this place trying to be? Food was decent and even tasty, albeit a bit overpriced especially if you're trying to tell me this is happy hour pricing. What that really means is $1-$2 off the normal price on a few items. But most items are already marked up a few bucks over market for similar food. Too many other great options to revisit this particular establishment. read more

We originally set out to go to Stuft Pizza but as usual they had a long wait, we decided to try a new place we heard of and very glad we did. The area inside was crowded so our hostess seated us outside. It was a cool evening but there were ample heaters to keep us very comfortable. I had the Cuban sandwich which was very good and my wife tried the spicy chicken sandwich which she loved, we both had sweet potato fries which were also very good. The menu has a lot of variety so we will definitely be coming back to try more items. Great addition to Old Town!!! read more

Great food but they really need to work on their service. I was there last week for dinner and when they brought our meals I was the only one who didn't get mine. It was about 15 minutes after that I finally got my meal. They really need to bring everyone's meal out at the same time. Was there again and the service was once again terrible. We spent$100 dollars on drinks and we waited 45 minutes for our drinks to come. The waitress never came over and asked if we wanted to order. She seemed very annoyed that we were complaining. I don't know how they are going to stay open if this continues. I was there last week for dinner and again the service was awful. We waited 15 minutes for our drinks. My chicken was dry and our waitress had an attitude. I had to go find her to tell her we wanted more drinks. read more

My friend and I had always liked this place until last night. We got to the bar early to watch the USC game. People started coming in and asked for the baseball game. After trying to turn 1 tv to the game to no success, they kept our football game on. Mind you, there were several other tvs with baseball. Because the people at the end of the counter kept complaining so much, we were asked mid meal, to move to a table. The owner, had made a comment earlier that the baseball was far more important than a USC football game. When asked to speak with him, he came over to the table and was already defensive. This was our first time visiting Fortuns. We found the ambience to be happy and fun. The cocktails were fabulous as was the coconut cream pie (albeit a bit pricey at $8.00 per slice). The staff and servers were attentive and friendly. The menu and entree options sounded super appetizing however when we got our food it was bland and mediocre. They have only been open a couple of months and I am willing to try this restaurant again in hopes they get their kitchen together. read more

Save your money. Overly salty and otherwise uninteresting food at fairly high prices made it a bad value. A few vegetables in one dish tasted of the freezer and out of several dinner items before 7 pm. Slow service. Very noisy. And a dirty (crusty and sticky) water glass. What is there too like? This was by far the worst dining experience we've ever had. ANYWHERE!. At 6:30 at night, they ran out of their swordfish special, so we settled on Mahi Mahi. Specifically ordered it to be cooked well done. Had to ask for water at the table. No bread was offered. Pitiful wine selection. Both fish entrees arrived quickly, but way, way under cooked. Patiently waited for the waiter to show up. He agreed it was undercooked and sent it back. New piece of fish arrives but still not cooked well enough for us. How many times do we have to asked for well done? The waiter did his best and I really don't blame him. We will never go back there. If I wanted Sushi, I would have ordered Sushi. read more

There is no point booking a reservation with this restaurant as they do not honour it when you get there , we got there 5 minutes ahead of our reservation and hostess told us they just gave our patio table away and they told us we could sit n the lounge at a crappy table no one wanted , when asked if we could wait for a table on patio were we reserved she just said nothing and asked if we wanted that other table . This is brutal. Customer service and wonder if she is in the wrong business , message to owners you have good food but your front end service might end up costing you lots of business as we went elsewhere as there are lots of options in la Quinta , you might think you are fine right now as you are new but later on you will wish you had some of these customers back. read more

The restaurant seems to have moved past it's earlier new opening challenges for the most part. We shared a capris salad which was excellent , presented nicely and tasted great . It was served with cherry tomatoes rather then sliced which I would prefer but still very nice. For the main course we had a burger and a friend chicken sandwich both done nicely. The menu items reminds me of Eureka with similar presentations. Nicely designed restaurant great addition to the La Quinta area. Service needs to improve however, slow and several items not delivered to the table , we had to ask our server several times for items which took long periods of time to deliver. read more

Went there to dinner with wife and two kids. Sat on patio. Very nice place and great decor. Started off well but then server said we were being transferred to another server. Our apps came and no one ever came back to take our order or fill drinks. Frustrated I went to host stand and asked for the check. After 5-7 minutes of more waiting a person who I think is the floor manager brings me the check. I give him my card. When he came back I told him what happened. He did apologize and told me he was in charge. He gave me my check and I paid $40 bucks for the two apps. I didn't ask for anything comped but they should have stepped up and done the right thing. We came in for dinner on a very busy Wednesday night.. The bar was packed the restaurant was packed there was even a wait. We ended up sitting at the bar area. We have the pleasure of Amanda taking care of us. It was our first time being in there, with hearing good things and bad things that we decided to check it out! We are greeted by the GM Paul who is very accommodating and very friendly and got Us seated right away. She took or drink or within minutes she recommended some great wine and some great signature cocktails!! We were not going to do appetizers but she talked us into doing the for caccia bread suggesting it would go well with our wine while we waited for entrées. When it came to the food she was very assertive she pretty much ordered everything for us. Lol . I ended up getting the short rib . My girlfriend ended up ordering the Thai salad... I also order a few pizzas for the table which were phenomenal. It was a busy Thursday night but everybody was very professional you could look around and see everybody was working very hard. We will definitely be back not only for the food in the entire restaurant but for Amanda... she definitely knows the menu she's very good at helping you make decisions very well spoken!!! We actually thought she was a manager because of how she greeted us so caring and wanting to make sure you're happy from the beginning until the end!' Everyone really liked their food, our server (Kimmy) was wonderful (service and personality both) and we didn't have a reservation but happened to get one of the few low tables in the quiet corner of the restaurant. Had the great opportunity to spend a weekend in LaQuinta and spent a lot of my time eating here! The food is AMAZING! My favorite was the fried chicken with biscuits & gravy, but I also had one of best steaks I've eaten in a long time. Friendly service and cool ambiance. They have a frost rail at the bar to keep your drinks chilled, which I'd never seen before and was pretty cool (literally!). The pizza looked awesome, too. I have never left a bad review for any business because I don't like to complain. This was the worst experience in a restaurant ever.We had to wait quite a while to order a drink.. No big deal. Finally got our drinks & Ordered dinner. After quite a wait the waitress served us 3 dinners,told us she would be back with my wife's Well after asking her several times ,when we could get her attention she brought a pizza.Not the pasta meal that was ordered.The waitress said she would be right back with the dinner..It never showed up.She made a point to repeatedly state she was new. At this point the dinner has already been ruined and we are now ready to leave. After asking to see a manager ..they sent out Keith ,the chef. he was unbelievably bad.. tells us he won't charge us for my wife's dinner, REALLY , you never served it and ruined the dinner for everyone. Are you joking ?? I asked to speak to Kevin the owner but was told he was busy,so we ultimately paid the bill and left. I called the next day and left a message for Kevin who was out. No return call. Called back several days later and was again turned over again to the chef ,Keith. He told me he wouldn't buy us dinner and that they weren't a full service fine dinning restaurant..unbelievable !! I asked what he meant by that.He said they were more like the stuffed pizza restaurant and were casual dinning.Not a fine dining restaurant !!. What ever that means ? Does that mean it's OK to not serve someones dinner ?? I didn't even ask for him to buy us dinners, I clearly stated that they could do what ever they felt was right to rectify a terrible dining experience. Keith has the worst customer service skills I have ever experienced..bar none. Kevin, Prior to our diner you were very nice,stopped by our table,talked to us and told us you had some staff and service problems due to only being open for 4 months. We can accept that, it's how you and your staff handle those problems that matters. While Keith told me he was your partner.. This review is long overdue! It's actually quite sad that I'm leaving this review. I've enjoyed prior service that was outstanding from Amanda. On June 2nd I made reservations for a party of 8 plus an infant. For some reason I thought Fortun's was going to be packed since it was a Friday night but it was actually quiet. Our sever Marco was absolutely horrible from the start. First, it took him forever to greet our table and when he did his vibe came off as rushed and unpleasant when taking our drink and appetizer orders. Fast forward, our drinks arrived in a timely manner but again it was taking forever for the appetizers to arrive. It was taking so long that I excused myself from the table to go inside and see what the delay was all about. Mind you, Marco never came to our table to explain the delay and we were all sitting at the table wondering when the appetizers were going to arrive because we were all quite hungry. Anywho, as soon as I enter the restaurant to talk to staff about our situation I see Marco with plates of food rushing out to the patio area where we were dining. So I turn back around to go back outside to join my family. Later on, he follows up with us to check on how the food is tasting and explaines that issues in the kitchen caused the appetizers to come out late. Fast forward to the entree situation. So...Marco comes to the table in a rushed manner and drops a hot metal pan that was holding my 5 year old niece's pepperoni pizza in front of her on the table. He did not place it gently in front of her nor did he warn her that it was extremely hot! Boy was I furious! My husband excused himself and spoke to the manager about the matter. The manager was very pleasant and served the rest of our food along with Marco. Later on when Marco came out to follow up with everyone as to how everything was tasting, he raised his voice and started shouting at my husband in front of my entire family. "How he told him what was going on in the kitchen." I'm sorry but this last experience I had here at Fortun's was extremely unpleasant due to the poor service we received by Marco. I could say some real low blows to you on here Marco but I choose to keep it classy. Thank you for giving me my niece's toy that we forgot on our departure but that action wasn't enough for you to redeem yourself. I'm seriously on the fence about visiting this establishment due to this poor experience. Sad. read more

OK ... I hate this ... but. No. Zero. Stars. The service comments are SPOT ON. The staff management is absolutely ridiculous. We were a simple party of two ... it was a busy Sunday night, and we just wanted a quick bite. Well, that quick bite turned into 2 and a half hours of sitting and waiting while we watched larger parties get their food. Out waiter kept apologizing, but never ONCE did the manager come over and offer some explanation. No, the Manager, some Gumba, was too busy flirting with a group of Plastic 50 somethings for over an hour (yes, he never left their side) ... So, because we never complained ... I guess we were being too nice. Just awful. I mean, let's be real Desert-dewellers .... for the most part, service in the Coachella Valley leaves something to be desired, no matter the time of year. But this ... this was by far, in the 2+ decades I have been living/visiting here, that I have seen something like this!!! Apparently, Fortun dropped $3 million dollars to fix up this eye-sore ... but somewhere forgot to spend some money on actual help!!! I can give a crap about an outdoor Pizza Oven or a Retractable ceiling if I cannot even get a Diet Coke, let alone my sub-par 'pizza' which I ended up taking home and feeding to my dog. I am not exaggerating! I WILL NOT BE GOING HERE AGAIN. The food is average to above average, but this does not change the fact that we spent 3 hours on a Sunday night and the best they could do was offer a free desert!!!!!! No!!!! This is typical of these desert "Chefs" thinking they are something when really, you would die in a major market ... so you spend ridiculous money to fix up a dump that has continually failed because no one gets how to make decent food with good service. (Hello, Figue anyone?!?) You cannot spent your way to success, you have to actually have management experience. I am sorry Mr. Fortun ... you can't go 'travelling the world' and finding your culinary center (which btw ... your best thing is BBQ burnt tips which I could make for you on my $400 smoker), spent stupid amounts of money and somehow forget to hire competent head chefs and staff management!!! I'll skip the Free Coconut Cream Pie ... which I could have gotten at Coco's for $6, and been home in time for work the next day. FIN. read more

We used to really enjoy this restaurant. However, this evening we had a reservation at 6pm and requested a table inside. When we arrived, we were told that only the outside patio was available and that if we wanted to sit inside, we would need to sit at a "hi top" table in the bar. I have a broken foot and I am in a large boot. The reception person told us that the tables in the dining area, which were normal height, were reserved. We had a reservation as well but it was not honored. We called Lavender, they could give us a table inside, and we had a great dinner. We will not return to Fortun. What is the point of a reservation if it is not honored? Very annoyed. read more

I really enjoy this place. Great concept and great food. I've never had bad service, quite the opposite, wait staff is incredibly friendly and attentive. Our server, Alyssa is very knowledgeable about the menu and wine and can easily direct you if you are not familiar with what they offer. The beef dip and tater tots are to die for!! read more

I was surprised by the great reviews after eating here today for lunch. I felt the prices were high for the quality of the food. Our salads were overloaded with dressing and the barbecue was dripping in sauce. The waitress wasn't very friendly. This restaurant has a great outdoor seating area with fabulous atmosphere but needs to fine tune a few things. Our group won't be returning. read more
