My wife and I had a great time until the very end. It was a people next to us. I know they were upset with us because we were cutting loose and having a good time. Yes we had a few drinks. They didn't have any. We got there first early as soon as the restaurant opened. my wife and I have been through hell I lost my parents and today was the loss of my wife's mother seven years ago. They have no idea what we've been through. We're allowed to cut loose and have a good time. I'm tired of people, judging us and not saying anything and giving us dirty looks. I had great service great food and fortunes is very accommodating but the other customers sometimes give us trouble. Have a good night. read more

Such a Disappointment! I wanted to like them. It looks like a potential gem. Great patio and beautiful decor. So when we were next-door at Enzos and saw that Fortun's didn't have a line. We decided to try them. Well, there is a reason they don't have a line. . . Painfully slow service and low price/value relationship. Slow service - Our first impression was not good. It took over 10 minutes before anyone greeted us after we sat down. This happened to all the tables around us. Subsequently ALL service, including food, was a snail pace slow. High Prices - The food was over priced for what you get. I don't mind paying high prices if the food is good. But the food taste here was just OK and felt we didn't get our money's worth. I do not recommend this restaurant. There are too many good restaurants in La Quinta. This one does not compare! read more

Just read the restaurants response. I didn't even share on my review the issue about the bone found in the salad, I had so many other issues with my experience that that was the least of my concerns. But I do wanna make some corrections since the representation is misleading number one there was NO OFFER to switch out my salad. I ate all of it and kept the bone to the side as a courtesy to the restaurant to let them know for other customers who might have not been able to spot it and identify it in their mouth and choked on it ..,, and number two, the dessert that was offered because of the bone located was NOT REFUSED!!! My wife and I were in the mood for something new in La Quinta and our neighbors recommended Fortun's Kitchen - what a find! The combination of location, ambience, menu selection (food and drink), service, and price made this our new favorite restaurant east of Palm Springs. Ask for Scott's section when you walk in - he is an excellent server and quite the personality. And do not pass up the shrimp appetizer - to die for. Reservations are not needed - we like sitting in the bar - but recommended. It will become a regular thing when we visit our home in LQ. read more

We had to send back two dishes (salmon and burnt ends), because the salmon was undercooked and the burnt ends were too fatty and grisly. They removed the salmon from our ticket, but not the burnt ends. This is a terrible and poorly managed restaurant. We won't be returning. read more

We were visiting friends in Palm Desert and they brought us here because it is one of their favorite restaurants. I didn't get to see the inside because they were following the protocol for COVID. We sat outside in the patio, which was covered. It was 113 degrees out at 4 pm, so the misters helped cool us down. Our server was very friendly and attentive. She took our drink order and of course I asked for Steve's Favorite, which is a martini made with Grey Goose vodka (my favorite) and blue cheese olives, which is a must. Keith's Old Fashioned was also good and my friend is partial to their lemon drop martinis. Our food arrived quickly. The filet was cooked perfectly. The Wagyu Meatballs were hearty and the sauce was very good. The garden salad was loaded with tasty vegetables and fresh avocado. I would definitely like to come back next time I'm in town. Although we made a reservation for dinner with a gentleman by phone, upon arrival receptionist had no reservation. Receptionist and two assistants busily attended to take out orders leaving the five of us standing there. Her "service" verged on rudeness. We were offered a high-top table inside, but since one of our party had had a knee replacement, this was not a comfortable option. Apparently the majority of tables were reserved even though not occupied as yet. We were ultimately given a table outside and Hector was very good trying to get us resituated to another table with heaters that actually worked. Although the booths inside were "reserved" they remained unoccupied the whole time we were there, and when we departed two hours later. Short ribs came out cold, but we were pleasantly surprised they brought back a new order rather than microwaving the old plate. Best items were the French onion soup and pizzas. But for $25-30 for an individual pizza, there are many other options for a lower priced better quality pizza in the area. We had not been back for a year, and all of us agreed it was "off the list" for this season again. We won't be back. read more

On Thursday April 20th, 2023 we brought our family from Washington to Fortun's . I ordered a filet. I had to return it as it was over cooked. So they brought out another filet that was cooked correctly. But unfortunately It smelt and tasted like liver. The taste was so pungent that as soon as I took a bite, I spit it out. My aunt also took a bite and said it was disgusting. Thankfully they removed the $47.00 from our bill. This is the second time I ordered a filet from them. The other time when I complained, the woman manager argued with me. My mom ordered the pasta and it was so spicy she couldn't eat it. We were a party of 6 and I was embarrassed by the food. Our bill was $400.00. We will Never return to this restaurant. There are to many other local restaurants that serve choice cuts of meat. read more

This is the second time I have dined at fortuns and both times the food was delicious. The first time I ordered the wagyu meatballs and they were incredibly flavorful and delicious. This time I had the burnt ends sandwich and shared it with my husband and it was delightful ! So savory and the brisket melted in our mouths. The waiter Angela was very kind , helpful and fast . We are always on the lookout for a good happy hour and we just happened to find a great one at Fortun's! The Martini's were ice cold and fantastic! & they have a more than generous wine pour. We had the French dip sandwich & the Cesar salad which was very good. Francisco provided us with excellent service and Scott the manager kept checking on us to make sure we were having a good dining experience. Well, we definitely were without a doubt! This used to be a restaurant that we often frequented. No longer. They now automatically add a 4% surcharge to your total bill. When questioned, our server advised that the staff do not receive any of this 4% surcharge. A blatant money grab by the restaurant owner. In addition, our bill came with an automatic 20% gratuity added on (even though we were only a party of six). To add insult to injury, the bill also included a separate line for a gratuity, clearly hoping to trick customers into double tipping. It also didn't help that we left the restaurant hungry, despite a hefty bill. On a busy Saturday night, the restaurant was at least 1/3 empty. The word of this restaurant's decline and predatory pricing policies is obviously getting out. There are plenty of other restaurants in Old Town La Quinta that now far exceed this place. read more

My husband and I are in town for a work trip, so we made a reservation for dinner and ate outside on the patio. Rodrigo was our server and he was fantastic! He had good recommendations and was very nice and attentive. My husband and I each had a Perfect Margarita and they were delicious. We both wanted to try the special of the day, King Crab and Shrimp Pasta, and the Braised Short Rib. Rodrigo was kind enough to offer to have the kitchen split the dishes for us so we could both enjoy both entrees. The flavors in the pasta were fantastic and the short rib was so tender and flavorful. A party in my mouth!! We also got the Coffee Toffee Crunch Mousse Cake for dessert and WOW - highly recommend! My wife made the res. on Open Table and requested indoor seating. The weather was extremally windy and dust heavy in the air. The message did not get delivered to Fortun's but they we able to accommodate for the indoor request. Seated by the kitchen exit. Only once did I get the chair kick. Classy décor but not fine dinning. All high-top tables with no linen tablecloths. Saturday night and the place was packed with perhaps two to three table turns that night. Very loud indoors. Perhaps better suited for an after bowling league hangout. We were met by Tonya who had big smile and was very accommodating. Brought my own selection of wine because they have an absurd markup on theirs. Head chef visited our table which was a nice touch. Keith make his own menu creations. Food quality was about average for what Fortun's presents themselves to be. Very expensive and having just moved to CA from LV, big price difference. Welcome to f***ing California, high price...low value. I have been a chef for over 55 years and I know the food costs, labor and etc. Ouch. Great balance of menu items from the vegan thing to poultry, beef, fish, pasta and etc. Great selection of soups and salads and by the looks of their pizza they must do amazing well. Super nice staff. Food is good but please be aware that if you are a table of 4 and you are at your table a minute beyond 2 hours, you will be asked to leave. I get that that they have other reservations coming in but it's just off-putting, especially because we had barely paid the check of $209.00 + tip and were wrapping up a conversation AND rethinking getting dessert to go, when our poor waitress came over and told us that our time was up. Therefore, we won't be back. Never have I EVER experienced what I consider a tasteless practice. There are too many other amazing restaurant options in the Valley to go back to this one. Nope. Man, I so wanted to like this place. Came here to celebrate my birthday on a Saturday evening. Made reservations, smart, still got here 30min early. Sat at the bar, had a drink. Fountain was a bit loud to hear my husband, can't fault the street noise. Server was quick, initially. I'm sure over-worked, tired & under paid, cause she seemed it. The bussers & runners were prevalent & on top of it. Server on the other hand, far & few between. The funny thing, it progressively got worse toward the end of dinner. Maybe she was helping cook our food or bake our atrocious carrot cake? We even said to each other, we could get up right now & no one would notice...wth?!? Started with the clam chowder. Someone lost the top to the pepper in my bowl. I think there were clams in there, couldn't taste anything but pepper. I ordered the swordfish, I've never had swordfish, so this could all be a bit ignorant on my part. Absolutely No flavor & dry has a bone, not a fish bone, their a bit more moist. The longest part was waiting for our dessert. DESSERT! Usually already Pre-made/baked/frozen. Server actually had to come and tell us it was the ice cream that was taking so long - ice cream?? I heard nothing of the sort it was freshly made or had to milk the cashews, come on. The carrot cake - thank goodness for overly sweet icing, the one bite I obtained a cavity, hid the compacted horse feed passing as cake. Oh, they comped the ice cream for our wait... This place advertises one of the better happy hours, we may try it again for that, but not a full course meal. This will not be one I recommend. Hope it's better for others & we just had a bad day. They are just across the street from some live music and it was nice to step across the street and get away from the crowd. Our waiter was Hilarious and was quick. The head chef came out and made sure everyone was enjoying the food. The bartender even came out and moved some chaired so my daughter could get a picture of the pig painting. read more

I went here a few times with my folks and have to say we absolutely loved dinning here. Amazing staff, great ambiance and outstanding food, all at such a reasonable price. I hate to do this, but it has to be done...I am trying to be extra patient these days as most restaurants are struggling to come back from covid related shut downs and from a shortage of qualified staff. We are loyal patrons of this restaurant, so I waited until we had a third consecutive disappointing experience before revising this review. Each of these instances occurred within the last month. The reservation system is frustrating. 3x now, we have made reservations specifically requesting indoor, standard seating. 3x now we have been redirected to whatever seating is available, but it's never what we initially requested. Not the end of the world, but not what we had in mind when we made our plans. 3x now, service has started off being great, then is non-existent. Plenty of bus staff helping to bring out food, but our actual server is MIA after our order is taken. We have to wave someone over just to get water. This last time, our deep dish pizza was our only entree (shared by my husband and I, and we had an appetizer and salads) and it took a very long time to arrive at our table (understandable as it is an item that takes a long time to bake) but when it did arrive, it was stone cold in the middle and lukewarm on the outer edges. The cheese was not even melted. We ended up asking for the check and re-baking it at home. Our server never asked if we wanted more drinks, which is a money maker for these places and would have made the exceedingly long wait more tolerable. On our Thanksgiving dinner, two of the turkey plates were served without stuffing/dressing. When they were sent back for completion, they arrived with the burnt, dried dregs of dressing, in tiny little piles. Clearly, they had run out. The turkey was dry and tasteless and overcooked. Also very disappointing was that Fortun's did not offer a single vegetarian entree or even a side dish other than salad. We had one person in our party who has Crohn's and could not eat any meat products. I called ahead to discuss this with the manager, and she said they could make her a larger portion of the risotto that comes with the swordfish, as a main dish. Great, except the risotto was not cooked - the rice was so crunchy it couldn't be chewed. Some of the premium spirits they used to have are now not available (Russian Jewel vodka being the best one!) which is sad because they used to make an awesome martini here. We have tried all of the desserts and they are not good. They are along the lines of a Vegas buffet quality. We used to get awesome desserts here. The staff is very nice, it just seems like they are going through something that I hope they can work out. We want to return to having Fortun's be one of our regular spots. read more
