I used to come here all the time when I was a kid, after practice with my siblings and parents. It was always dusk and hot, the perfect autumn days for ice cream. Today was the first time I have been back in maybe 9-10 years. I thought surely it must've been closed years ago due to its antiquity. To my surprise , it's still up and busy. The same paint, the same overwhelming collage of posters that look like they were printed sometime in 97', the same drive-thru liquor store across the street, nothing had changed one bit. 3/5 stars mainly for taste I've been craving a chocolate dipped soft serve cone, so I decided to swing by Foster's Freeze around 4PM today. The location has a small parking lot right in front of the ordering window and there were only a couple of other people in line. I went ahead and ordered a medium vanilla soft serve cone dipped in chocolate, which came out to $3.80. Upon first biting into the cone, I noticed that the chocolate shell sadly wasn't super flavorful. Normally it has a bit more of that magic shell type chocolate flavor, but this one mainly had texture. As far as the ice cream, the vanilla tasted a bit more artificial than other soft serve ice cream I've tasted. In the future, I will likely go to Dairy Queen for a cone, as their prices are similar but I prefer the taste of their chocolate dipped cones. My experience is solely based on the flavor of the cone, but if you're interested in trying one of their other menu items I would still give it a shot. The staff accurately took my order and prepared it very quickly. They were also all wearing masks and require that customers wear masks in order to be served. read more

How this place has 4 stars is honestly beyond me. Started with us walking up to the window to place our order and the girls behind the counter or too busy talking with each other to even acknowledge. We existed for quite some time. Then when we did place our order the lady behind the counter did not repeat it. We ordered three items and when we got our order, they had gotten my ice cream incorrect and they didn't even apparently ring us up for my dad's or your float nor did they give us a receipt. When my sister mentioned it, the lady behind the counter freaked out and started yelling about how we didn't order that, when she had just repeated the order to begin with it we would've never been an issue. People need to learn how to have good customer service again and remember that the customers are the ones paying their paycheck. I've been in customer service for many many years myself and this is unacceptable. To make matters worse, the I'm assuming manager was behind the counter as well and he didn't even step in and really apologize for the issue or anything else. Wow... after trying their Oreo Twister soft serve creation, I am sold. Never buying McDonald's sorry excuse of an Oreo McFlurry ever again! Creamy, beautifully sweet, and immensely filled with thick Oreo cookie chunks. One of the best soft serve sundaes you could ask for, which melted slower than you would expect it to. Also, the small size I ordered was a good portion and quite big for a "small", priced around $4. Customer service here is first-rate and you'll get your frozen treat in a matter of minutes. Seating-wise, there is a small indoor eating area along with outside tables if you'd rather sit a while to enjoy your ice cream or even a hamburger, or chicken fingers or fries (all offered on their extensive menu). This Fosters Freeze location is across the street from Von's plaza, next door to a drive in Alta Dena market. Some parking spots in front but some more in the back. My husband, our little girl dog and I tried Fosters Freeze on 2 separate visits. We were in the mood for ice cream and thought this no frills ice cream, burger place would fit the bill. We ended up ordering: Vanilla ($2.29 prior to tax) + Dipped Cone ($1.98 prior to tax)- On our first visit, my husband and I decided to each get our own vanilla soft serve in a cone, dipped in chocolate. I think that was a mistake because the ice cream was running and melting so quickly and oozing out of the chocolate. It was good but pretty messy (does not make for good photos, if you see the one I have here). Small Pumpkin Cheesecake Twister, $5.25 prior to tax- On our second visit, my husband opted for the vanilla soft serve, dipped in chocolate (he doesn't mind the messy dessert and neither does our little girl) and I decided to try the seasonal pumpkin cheesecake dessert. This dessert is basically vanilla ice cream blended with pumpkin puree and cheesecake. I thought this twister dessert was good but a bit too rich after a few bites. I really wished that I had gotten a junior size instead (smaller than the small). The small size is perfect for sharing by the way. On both of our visits, wait time for our orders was relatively short. If there was a line, it went pretty fast. There are tables outside (where we sat for both visits and are covered) but also tables inside. I love that this place has several different ice cream options if you are craving ice cream, especially on a warm day. It's reliving your youth with one of the only soft-serve ice cream fastfood restaurants in the valley. You are definitely missing out if you have never been here. Really, you need to set aside some time and bring not only yourself but your family to enjoy some old fashion ice cream treats that are a rarity to find anymore (yes, your kids will love you for it). I've had all of their soft-serve dishes, from cones and sundaes to rootbeer floats to milkshakes, and of course, all of their "Twisters". It is like taking a time machine back to the 1960s and 1970s and enjoying a more innocent time. Because the place is hidden away somewhat, it never is that packed where there is a long wait (if there is a wait at all). The only negative thing I can say has nothing to do with Foster Freeze. On a recent visit, a lanky teenage girl and her mother were in front of my wife and I as we waited to place our order. The lanky teenage girl turned around, looked at my wife and I, and then asked her mother, "Why do young women get with old guys?" (Yes, there is an age gap between my wife and I). My wife can read my mind, since she knew I was about to say something (and not a pleasant thing), so she took my hand and kissed my cheek, whispering, "We're here on an ice cream date." This is why, after 20 years of marriage, my wife and I are still by each other's side. Anyway, take a moment out of your day and head on over to Foster Freeze. As always, I had another great experience here at Fosters Freeze. All the employees are very nice and make your food as quick as they can. The food is always amazing and you can always customize whatever you want. The blizzards and ice cream is always made in front of the window and handed straight to you. The employees also always ask what dipping sauces you need which is very helpful. There is always parking in the lot and there is plenty of room. First time at this Foster's Freeze location. I had been to one in Chiriaco Summit. I ordered the junior sized Mud Pie Twister and the cashier thoughtfully told me it has coffee in it. When she saw me flinch (as I am not a fan of caffeine), she offered to take out the coffee and put more Oreos instead. I LOVE Foster Freeze. I was so excited to find out there was one still open. I really miss the Placentia location in Orange County. Makes sense why it closed, there was never really any customers.
