Solid 3 stars...bumped down from 3.75 because of consistently incorrect orders. This is a long overdue review of Foster's, but I need to add it to my list. I love the burgers mainly because of the customization. An important note up-front about this particular location: My order was NEVER exactly what I asked for...over at least ten different visits. It didn't matter if I walked over and placed the order in person, if I called in, if I faxed the order in, or if I placed it online, it was always wrong and always in their favor (missing something that they already charged for). Half the time when pointing out there was a problem, I was given attitude by the staff. One time, when I faxed in an order, they had not even processed it as "the fax was out of paper." If it was not for those glaring problems, I would have given the place about a 3.75. They have decent (but not must-have) quality ingredients, and their milkshakes are usually pretty good...but not consistently. I went to Foster's Grille on 2/6/16 for dinner. Foster's Grille is a casual fast food restaurant. I wasn't expecting a fine dining experience. However, I was expecting (for the price of the food) it to be better than a place like MacDonald's. The food was meh. It didn't help that the our order got messed up. I am usually a little more forgiving about this when it happens. However, the restaurant was half empty when I had dinner (so it clearly was an issue of the kitchen staff not reading my ticket correctly). This place is great, and not just for the business park crowd across the street. It's one of the few places in that stretch of town that is open at night (most businesses close when their clients go home from work), and a great, uncrowded place to get a fantastic meal at a great price. My wife and I eat here when we're about to go to AMC theaters across the street. Flat screens always have sports events going, and if you don't like what's on and you can gain consensus from the crowd, they'll put it on whatever you like. It's a chain... but a great one, and this particular location has some family ties in the workforce. They're friendly and quick with service. I am a fan of the grilled chicken sandwich and the strawberry milkshake. I tried the grilled chicken salad once but was not pleased with the choice of lettuce used. On occassion, I get an order of onion rings. The staff is generally very friendly but the service can be a little slow at times. If I'm not in the mood to wait for a takeout order, I generally call ahead or order online so that it is ready by the time that I arrive. I dropped in for lunch on a Saturday after a nearby appointment. There were a handful of folks sprinkled at the tables and bar. Ordered a grilled cheese, vanilla shake, and a basket of onion rings. Was a regular customer to several locations in the DC Metro area. The other day we stopped in to the Westfields Blvd location and ordered 2 hamburgers - one with fries and one with onion rings. We have asked in the past to cook the burgers well done - no red meat what so ever. Their response was We are the home of the charbroiled hamburger so no need to ask. Well they brought us our food and one bite later they hamburger was completely raw. I took it back and the manager actually told me - we cook all burgers medium. Then he wanted to see mine and I showed him clearly the red and he said - well I don't see any red there. Both my husbands and I's were red. HE said he would cook me another one. He didn't - he just put my old burger back on the grill as it came back out with the same bite mark. It was still raw and he said he would cook a new one. Well 25 mins later no burger. The cook staff was laughing and carrying on along with the manager - would you really want to eat that burger since this is the second time you sent it back. The chicken wings are the best in the neighborhood! Geared for a lunch crowd, Foster's Grille is pretty laid back during the evening. It's nice to walk to as a resident of the Carlyle District. After watching with some mild form of interest for several weeks as this place underwent construction, the wife and I decided to pass on the "Grand Opening" yesterday, and instead stop by tonight for some belly fattening enjoyment. We had already seen the menu online, so we weren't expecting much, and Foster's did a wonderful job of not even meeting those meager expectations. It's generic American crap, the kind of stuff you take your family to if you're too lazy to find somewhere decent to eat, and really love inhaling more calories than your taste buds can justify. To begin with, the ordering system, which they pride themselves in, is completely stupid. Why on Earth would you have every customer fill out some stupid order card when the giant menu is right there behind the counter where you order? Is your menu REALLY that complicated? It's burgers, hot dogs, and simple sandwiches, stop wasting paper, the exact same order is printed on the receipt which you could just pass back to the line cooks, like every other "fast food" place, since you are essentially one step removed from that. To me, this food reminds me vaguely of Hooters, and is in the same price range, without the view. At a place of this quality, 50 cents per wing should not be a deal, it should be an outrage, as I highly doubt they're even worth a quarter. Also, they do not serve bottled beer, only draft, which consists of every kind of "Lite" commercial junk available, along with Foster's (cute) and some RedHook IPA, which I'm guessing is their idea of a premium beer. In short, even though I could easily walk here from my front door, I can't ever see myself spending more money at this place, even if I was drunk and needed carbs. This place has a not so terrible atmosphere and the wait wasn't as bad as I expected. That's probably because it doesn't take long to drop some pre-frozen food into a deep fryer. In this area if I go out and order fish and chips, I expect to receive a fresh piece of fish that has been battered and deep fried. Not here at Foster's grille where we can buy some frozen Gordons fish patties and serve you that on a bun for 12 bucks. This was one of the worst sandwiches I've ever had the displeasure of tasting. I shared my food with my friend and I ordered a hot dog and he got the burger with the works. At $13 with fries we hopped it would impress but it fell flat---very flat. I don't mind a frozen burger when I know what I'm getting but they tried to dress a cow up with lipstick (i.e. bacon). No luck. Ordered online through their website, which was easy to navigate and fast to complete. One of the great things that come with living in the National Capital Region is the burgers... With Five Guys, Ray's Hell Burger, The Burger Joint, Good Stuff Eatery, Cheeburger Cheeburger, and Z Burger, I consider myself honored to live here... I have found the 5 Guys pundits to say that Fosters has a much better burger, and when I saw a Fosters was near opening near one of my work locations.. I got pumped up! Although I didn't make the grand opening, I managed to get there on it's 1st Saturday of business. The late Saturday afternoon crowd was small, but not empty. A large space with a few outside patio tables (Dog Friendly) immediately stood out. I really liked the ambiance, as it has a bar/grill feel to it which separates itself from other upscale fast food counterparts. There are several postings as you walk in introducing you to their ordering process. They require a "sushi style" ordering menu to be filled out. I liked this as this can serve as an alternative to a menu, and is good if picking up for a large group. This also gives you a better chance of getting what you ordered. :) The prices stand out right away... All of their sandwich offerings are accompanied with Fries and a fountain Drink. Their burger offering is $8 and change.. But if you think about adding fries and a drink to a five guys burger.. The prices are close to equal. I went with a bacon cheese burger and a "fresh Squeezed" lemonade. You cannot have your burger cooked to order, and the cheese is defaulted with American. Unlike many of their counterparts, the toppings offered are slim. Mayo,Mustard, Ketchup, LTO, and pickle are your options. This surprised me as the trend is to go above and beyond with patrons imaginations.. The tables have an interesting deco pattern and they have a few excellent Plasma displays up. There is a bar area (Draft Beer) with 6-8 stools that I was impressed with. They do offer a daily happy hour with 50 cent wings, and $2 drafts The wait on a fairly simple order was 13 minutes, which I didn't expect. But was reasonable. The lemonade tasted more like Hi-C, but I probably should have ordered a diet coke anyway. The burger combo comes in a basket and the fry serving is less than generous, but fries aren't too good for you so probably for the best.. The fries are skin-on and appeared fresh cut. The burger was smaller than I expected and the outer edge was pretty burnt. Their slogan is the "charburger" so at least they delivered on that. The meat was cooked medium to medium well which surprised me but was welcome. The quality was better than burger king but not close to what I expected. For the price, the quality of the meal was dissapointing. That being said, I came away impressed with the staff. The manager on duty checks on you during your dining, and the cleanliness was impressive. As you can tell, I'd really like to enjoy this place. The menu has several other offerings (Chicken, Fish, Steak Sandwiches), so I will more than likely give it another go.. My first experience with Fosters was in Waldorf MD , we ordered delivery. I was not happy with what I got but I thought the long delivery distance might have been the reason so I decided to stop by Fosters and eat there on a weeknight at about 6:00. The Alexandria location is very big but it's very easy to miss it because the sign is posted too high in the plaza . All the other restaurants in the same plaza are pretty busy so this is an outlier. Not many people were there. I walked up to the bar to sit, it was so bright that you would think you are checking into a hospital, I think lighting is very important for a bar section. Anyway I took a tall table behind the bar, and the table was dirty and nobody came over to clean it . The presentation of food was hideous, the fries were shoved under my burger . French fries was not the way I like, they serve them long and soft . The only good thing about my experience was the burger , although they did not have fresh bread but the meat was very good . My advice to store management would be either you need to change quick and get better at every aspect or I don't know how you can survive for long . read more

Got in today half an hour before HH ended at 7pm. Filled out the form to select food and paid for the food at the register. Easy process and no waits on this eve before T-Day. They had IPA Longhammer for $3. Even though it's freezing outside, I was feenin' a nice cold brew. The seats at the bar were all taken but plenty of open booths and tables to chose from. Tables were cleared off and overall the place had a nice appearance. The red chairs and tabletops remind me of Chinese restaurants. The lighting isn't too blindingly bright, in fact, they emit a soft glow and convey a warm comfortable atmosphere. The service is friendly, at least the ones clearing the tables, but the cashier (the guy with a moustache) could probably smile a bit more even for the sake of looking like he enjoyed working here. He looked way too serious for a place like this. The burger had a lovely char flavor which I yearn and expect in a burger, reminds me of summer backyard burgers. And the fresh cut fries are just that, fresh, and served piping hot. I love seeing the skin of the potato still attached. This is a great place for a really good burger and fries or onion rings whether solo or with families. I used to think that the place where I work had the most inefficient business model ever, then I went to Foster's for lunch. I have a newfound appreciation for my company, now. Two co-workers and I were in the mood for a 'naughty' (i.e. 'unhealthy') lunch, so we decided to check out Foster's. We arrived shortly after noon and the line was almost to the door. Having done our Yelp research, one of my friends grabbed some order sheets and pencils from the counter and we started circling our choices. The bad part about us being so prepared is that the order sheets didn't include everything on the menu, so when I got close enough to read the menu boards, I realized that there were other options available, so of course, I had to hold up the line while I re-thought my options. The line was further slowed by the fact that most of the other people in line hadn't done their research and failed to read the signs about filling out an order sheet, so there was someone going through the line and filling out order sheets for everyone. By this time, we were all ready to submit our orders, but the 3-4 parties ahead of us still hadn't filled out their forms. The stupidity continued: When you finally get to the register to pay, the freaking cashier has to input your order, reading from your form, so it's not like it made any difference whether you had a form or just verbally put in your order, with the minor exception that filling out your form in advance forced you to make up your mind BEFORE getting to the register. From there, you pay your bill and go sit down somewhere. On your order form, you fill in your first name and whether you are sitting inside or outside, but it isn't like you get a placard to identify your table, so when your order is ready, someone carries your food around the restaurant asking everyone if your the person the food is for. Stupid. There are other points of ridiculousness. For example, a fountain soft drink/iced tea is included with all sandwich orders. If you want a 'fresh squeezed' lemonade, it costs like $1.95 extra and they still give you the soda that comes with your meal. And really, I could've just made my own damn lemonade by using the water from the soda fountain, and the lemon wedges and sugar packets they put out for the iced tea. I had the veggie burger with fries and it was actually pretty tasty. The fries looked greasy, but surprisingly weren't and were very similar to Five Guys fries, minus the grease. The whole meal cost me just under $9.00, which I thought was a pretty good deal. My co-workers' had the buffalo chicken sandwich and hamburgers, respectively and both claimed that they were pleased with their choices. One co-worker subbed a salad for her fries and said it was 'very fresh.' As am aside, the bathrooms were immaculate. Probably the cleanest I've seen in a public restaurant in a long time. I'm a bit partial to Foster's as I live and work in the area, so it's a very convenient place to stop by for food. They also have a decent happy hour ($2 Domestic - Bud Light and Miller Light), my only issue is I don't agree that Yuengling counts as a Premium beer ($3). But the price is more than fair in Alexandria. It's also nice that the happy hour is EVERY day, so you can stroll up there on a weekend even. The food is good, nothing amazing to be fair, and it sometimes takes a little longer than it should, but the prices are reasonable. They offer all the items as just the item itself (usually around $5) or as a combo with fries and a drink (usually around $8+). The menu can be a little confusing at first, but if you don't know how to use the checkpad part usually a staff member will help you. Lines can get a bit long during lunch time on a work day thanks to the USPTO being across the street, but it's usually very calm outside of that. As one reviewer remarked they do seem to have a possible problem with a local motorcycle club using the place as a hangout, on some nights it's nearly impossible to sit outside because they'll take up 3 of the 5 tables, but they usually come later in the day. In all the times I've been there I can think of only one or two times where I had any issue sitting outside. The staff is great and friendly, they'll bring out beers to you on the patio or anything else they can do to help. I've had a billing error there twice and both times it was corrected without issue and with an apology and a smile. If you're looking for something reasonably quick, cheap, and good to eat, or if you want a place to have some cheap beers on happy hour it's a great place. read more
