I ordered the medium heat buffalo wings from DoorDash, they arrived quickly and piping hot, which is usually not the case so I was excited to try them. They were cooked well and were decently crispy, however the sauce was just dreadful. It tasted like a mix of water, butter, and just a touch of bbq sauce. I could not taste anything that resembled buffalo or even just regular hot sauce. Buffalo wings are simple to get decent, but it seemed like there was not even an effort in the sauce. read more

How about " a shadow of it's former self." When I started going there The song " Alone Again Naturally" was in the top ten. It had some of the best pizza in Albany. Which is like saying a place has the best tacos in L.A. I moved out West in 1974. Soon after that The Fountain moved a few doors down the street.. It cloned itself and on my visits back to my hometown, it was one of my haunts. I could walk from there to my Parents' house after several beers and a great pie. I heard it changed hands a few times in the 90's, but still it was amazing late night pizza. Jump to this Fall ( 2013 ). Usually crowded and buzzing...cut to the chase....the pizza is BAD. Thought I just hit an off night. Tried it again...BAD. We had a Family gathering and my Cousin from Long Island said, "Fountain pizza". I kept my mouth shut and soon he picked up six pizzas. Nobody complained, but let's just say that there was plenty of left over pizza. My relatives from New Jersey goofed on Albany pizza. Thanks, The Fountain. This was my first time going to the Fountain, but my husband had been there many times. Since everyone raved about their pizza that is what I tried and it didn't fail to impress. The only thing that possibly could have been better was if they used fresh mushrooms instead of canned. Hubby had the 1/2 meatball and 1/2 sausage hot sandwich and WOW was it good. Went there on a Sunday night for some dessert and tea. Obviously not ideal for that sort of food. I had the Snickers pie and my boyfriend had cherry cheesecake. The slices were super thin and we were charged an inane amount for the slice of cake we got (I think mine was $6 and his cheesecake was $5). My colleague and I come here all of the time for lunch since it is right down the road. We always sit at the bar because she is a former bar maid and knows the bar tenders at the Fountain. I would say overall, great vibe and hang out spot. They always have good lunch specials. The pizza is always great. The food we get is good. The company is fantastic. The only complaint I have is that the restaurant itself is a little dark. I always find myself squinting when it comes time to look at the menu, which makes ordering a bit difficult. Been coming here for a few years now and not once have I been disappointed. By far the best wings in the area along with their pizza and linguini with clams. Rotating specials never disappoint. Awesome prices and amazing food and service. Waiters, waitresses, bar tenders, and entire staff always polite and prompt. Honestly I don't have one bad thing to say as they have been consistent each time. Even on take out the food is ready promptly so there is no further waiting with the time they say. Had not been there in 20 years but it was as I remembered it..as the best pizza in town. If someone says otherwise they must not have a tongue. While it took a while to get seated (Typical on a Friday night), the wait was well worth it. While the pizza came out too hot (We burned our own tongues !), after it cooled down we could not get enough of it. The pizza is simply to die for. This is why you see a ton of people just stopping in to get a take out order. The only question we had was "Why the hell have we not been coming here more often ?" I was there for my first time last weekend after taking the kids ice-skating. A friend said the pizza was great and worth heading a few blocks over. I couldn't agree more - eggplant on pizza... yummy! The kids got to play with the arcades in the back, while we all chatted and relaxed... This place is in walking distance from Pine Hills. Good local place. Food is ok and staff is friendly. Pizza is hit or miss and mostly locals inhabit the bar. The average-at-best wings were the only non negative experience in my visit here. It's absolutely baffling that this soggy, doughy pile of grease is rated by some as the best pizza in Albany. Keeping the grease soaked cheese and pepperoni from sliding off of this soggy dough has to be the only artful element associated with this meal. I stopped for lunch and had a tuna sandwich, the tuna was so salty I could only endure 2 bites. Unless you're a regular you are placed on the back burner, I observed a couple that entered after I did place their hot food order and get it before me. There is just something comforting and comfortable about these local taverns like The Fountain. You walk in and you know exactly what you're in for. There's a devoted local following - couples of all ages, families young and old and some regulars eating at the bar. After not having eaten at the Fountain in easily 6 or 7 years, I hit the place up with some friends this week and the food was better than I remembered. I love coming here with groups and don't think I've ever eaten here with less than 5 people - pitchers of beer, a few different pizzas, maybe some shared appetizers - the menu is perfect for this kind of dining. I really enjoyed the eggplant on the pizza - the fresh mushrooms were a nice touch, but the crisp eggplant was what made the pizza for me. Well that and the crust, it was especially crispy on my first slice and it really was a tasty pie. The mozzarella sticks were also good and I know I've enjoyed the fried mushrooms in the past too. They also offer sandwiches and burgers, but for me, I've only ever gone here for pizza and that's what I'd recommend. read more

I live down the street from the fountain and been there a few times with my wife and two kids or meeting up with some friends at the bar. Let me start off by saying the pizza was not very good you can get the same quality of Pizza at Domino's down the block, there was a few times I've ordered pizza there and it wasn't even cooked or was burned when it came out.. I also ordered the meatball parmesan and it came in a small casserole dish totally covered in cheese and sauce and you have to eat it with a fork and knife and because it's baked in the oven like that the bread is complete mush and the meatballs were way overdone tasted like they put them in the microwave. And the waitresses are very rude I had one waitress while I was there with my family didn't bring us any napkins and I grab the napkin off the table next to me and she yelled at me in front of everybody in the restaurant and I got into a big argument with her.. most recently I went there and ordered the French onion soup it took a half an hour to come out and there was no onions in it. was all broth and the cheese was burnt.. I also ordered a whiskey sour with a friend of mine and it tasted like straight sugar when I brought it to the waitress's attention instead of her saying I'll take it to the bartender and make you another one she got frustrated with my friend and myself and said that's how whiskey sours taste so after that I have to say I would never go back there again read more

This place was one if the worst meals I have had in Albany. We ordered 2 large pizzas, on with broccoli, onions and cheese and one with sausage, olives, onions and green pepper. The first pie was exactly as ordered but the other was served with out sausage. When it was pointed out to the waitress, she said she would check. She never got back to us until presenting the check where she said she had charged us half for a pitcher of beer. No "Sorry for the mistake" or any consideration that most of the pizza went uneaten and the one of the customers had only a few bites of pizza. For a place with the reputation like this, you would expect more consideration of the customers To charge for the pizza that was NOT what was ordered and only give half a pitcher of beer ($5 credit against $20 pizza) was actually insulting to the customers. While the first pizza was good, and the beer cold, not delivering was ordered on the second pie was ridiculous...but worse was the indifference to customers... My aunt and I went here because she's from the area and told me how great it is (I'm also a sucker for a cheeseburger). Anyways we arrived and it was pretty busy but it was also a Friday night so no big deal. We were seated right away and we bother knew exactly what we wanted in under five minutes so we ordered. My aunt and I get talking about life when I notice it's been an hour and there's no food. We had our drinks but my aunt didn't even have her salad. So I asked a waitress if she knew how much longer and she quickly apologized and went to get the salad. Again no big deal it's a Friday night in Albany. So we sat there for another half an hour when a waitress gave me some Mac salad. I'm not a big fan of mayo but I was starving so I ate it. That's when everything changed. I suddenly became pale white and felt the room spinning so I ran to the bathroom. By this time our food had come after two hours and I couldn't even take a bite without my stomach turning. I thought I was going to pass out so I got up and went outside for some air. Now I was raised to respect wait staff, always tip and never argue the price of the food. They offered to cover one glass of wine and I regret not saying anything but I feared if I opened my mouth I would spew that Mac salad everywhere. read more
