With a convenient location in Downtown Toronto and many happy hour and other special event deals, it's no wonder that this is a popular spot. However, if you're not looking to get drunk and kill time shouting to be heard over very loud music, then this may not be a good spot for you. The wait staff informed me that the music is loud all hours of the day, even during weekend brunch. It's the kind of place where you may have to wait a while in line just to speak to the host even if you have a reservation. Seating is limited and you may have to down a couple of drinks before the food comes. I tried the fish taco, which was flavourful but a little slim on the fish side. Also had the fish and chips (which were actually skinny fries) whereby the fries are a bit too salty and the fish too deep fried in hard batter. The tartar sauce on the contrary was rather underdone and bland. The guava glow mocktail was much too sour with a block of ice preventing the juice from blending with the syrup so each sip was either too sweet or too sour. All in all, it is certainly a wild ride coming to this restaurant. If you ever wondered what it would be like to eat in a club, this would be an accurate simulation. Probably best to only come here if you are already drunk, high, have lots of time, and/or don't care much about the quality of food or drink. We went on the 10th Anniversary of Fox on John, on 2025-05-28. It is also called Fox and Fiddle. It is quite a popular pub. It was very full when we arrived, approximately 17:45. They give out free finger foods and drinks, including a tall glass of champagne at the entrance. If you were there for the free offerings without paying for food, you cannot sit on a table. We were only there for 20 mins. We managed to get 2 finger foods: Spring Roll and Shrimp. Both were delicious. We told a server that we didn't drink alcohol. She checked with a manager, and came back with a mocktail consisting of lychee, Mango, and grenadine; so delicious! The customer service was good. There were so many tables indoors and outdoors. The food is excellent. We both had the ribeye appetizer, which was just the right amount of steak. It was perfectly cooked to order, with a creamy horseradish sauce. He had regular fries. Celebrated my anniversary here on a cold snowy Friday night Vibe was great (different from other Fox), love DJ with mood lighting. Service was great from my sweet server, managers came to attend to our needs too. It was their 20.25 January special too so we got a bottle of wine and lots of food. The sweet server even got us sparkling for our celebration. The food was overall great however, I found a hair I'm one of my dish but the manager and our server was very apologetic and made up for our evening. I am in complete agreement with the average rating of 3.2, and should have trusted Yelp to be more accurate than Google reviews (8000 reviews, average is much higher at 4.6). The inside has a typical bar atmosphere, football playing in the background, varied seating, lively and all the tables full. They also decorated for Christmas which adds to the ambiance. They were turning away walk-ins so I'm glad we had a reservation. For dinner we were lucky to coincide with Wednesday $15 pastas and their happy hour menu before 7pm. Off the happy hour menu we had the bang bang shrimp (5 pieces for $8). It was crispy with a sweet and slightly spicy sauce. We also has the broccoli ($6) which was not as good. It was seasoned unevenly, with some pieces very salty, others weirdly sweet. And all the pieces were wet. Portion sizes were very small. For the mains, I had the $15 lobster pasta which was quite good, especially for the price. The sauce was rich, there were some chunks of seafood, the portion was a healthy size, and though the pasta was a bit overcooked, all in all it was a solid option. The Christmas dinner was $30, and was a bit disappointing. It came with cranberry sauce but no gravy, and the stuffing was just cubed up pieces of bread with butter. It was packed, buzzing with energy, and the live DJ made it feel more like a party than just brunch. For $55, we got bottomless Cava Brut--and yes, we definitely made our way through two bottles. One thing I will say is that their DJ is phenomenal! They set the vibe very well for this popular location. We had very very kind service, comfortable seating and great food and drinks. 7 of us went to Fox on John on a Tuesday for lunch. We made reservations for the patio and were seated quickly. It was a bit cold so we asked to be moved inside, which they did very quickly. They had a fixed price menu which included an appetizer and main course for $25. There were quite a few choices, but only cheese pizza if you didn't eat meat, which was disappointing. It was $4 taco Tuesdays and since they were ordered individually, I ordered three different kinds - seaside taco (lightly battered cod + pickled carrots + pickled onions + jerk aioli + ancho chipotle + guacamole), lil' saucy taco (tofu + lettuce + salsa + jalapeño pepper + ranch dressing), and calamari taco (fried calamari + honey pico de gallo). All three were very tasty; although, the calamari taco was a bit cold. Other comments around the table were: The lobster pasta was delicious, the French onion soup wasn't super hot either but was tasty, and the cheese pizza was good and huge. This is a nice place to go for a meal; the inside of the restaurant is quaint with bookshelves and televisions. Our server was excellent - attentive but not overbearing. We had amazing experiences during our first time visiting Toronto but this was not one of them! We went on a Saturday and we had a reservation so we were seated quite quickly and the staff were really nice and courteous which was great as well! However we did wait awhile for someone to finally come and take our drink order (maybe 15 min) but it was busy so as a former waitress, I understand. Issue number one is the "bottomless mimosas". I guess I was expecting true bottomless like in DC where you pay a flat fee for 90 minutes and all of your mimosas are included in that fee but this was not the case. You pay $15CAD for your first and every mimosas after that is $2CAD. I'm from DC where WE BRUNCH so that could have added up real quickly. But the worst of it was the mimosas had clearly been premixed and sitting for awhile. There was no fizz to them and tasted like straight juice! No thank! The food was quite lackluster as well! I had the Big Fox Breakfast and everything was bland. My husband had the chicken and waffles but said it was just ok and was missing "something". Bottom line - Toronto was good to us with a lot of things but not this! Sad to say, we will not try Fox on John again when we come back to visit. read more

We dined at Fox and the Fiddle before seeing The Sound of Music--the location is perfect, just a short walk to the Princess of Wales Theatre. Even though we arrived early and it was very busy, the staff and manager were incredibly patient and kind, making sure we were comfortable and had drinks while we waited. They thoughtfully seated us at a low table instead of the high-top we booked, which was much better for my 87-year-old father-in-law, and even stored his walker for us. "Bottomless Mimosas" advertised are NOT bottomless. It is $15 for one, $2 for each drink after. There's a sign that says bottomless but that is false. Excellent bar and pub, or brunch for a fun time. There's plenty of space, tons of excellent drink selection, and good music. Came for brunch and have a few suggestions: - the audio of the venue is incredibly loud; the guitarist is very talented but the audio is such a high decibel that it's hard to converse so it feels more like a concert - the high tops are 5" away from each other; various people were asking for a table instead since we were nearly touching each other - staff is a bit spread thin; took 5 minutes to engage with a waiter and others around us were upset - the bottomless mimosas are not bottomless; you pay $15 then $2 for each one you add on, or $7 for each.
