We were super polite when we ordered, so not sure why that happened. The rest of our food was mediocre at best. We didn't try the ice cream, but that's what we should have ordered. I didn't really know what the big deal was with this place or why it has such a high rating. A place that serves ice cream, pizza, and falafel? I stopped by for coffee and a sundae and was pleasantly surprised. The staff were very competent, the coffee was huge and good, the Wi-Fi was fast and did not require a password, the restroom was very clean, and the seating area was pleasant. Oh and the sundae was perfection (she even gave me two cherries instead of 1) Visited again the next day with my family and had a large pizza with half #3 (Virgin Creek) and half #6 (Wages Victorious). Frankie's is a gem in downtown Mendocino if you're looking for a more casual meal. A lot of the restaurants in the area are pretty pricey/formal due to the touristy nature of the area. But Frankies serves up good pizza at prices that would be reasonable anywhere. They have a lot of great menu options which you can tweak to your liking. They also serve ice cream with a nice variety of unique flavors alongside the traditional - like candy cap mushroom (tastes like maple syrup). Milkshakes are more on the milky, thin side though. Clam Chowder -not too creamy, well cooked potato's and other veggies. The croutons were a nice addition and added the perfect crunch. No disrespect to our friends on the west coast, or the rest of the country for that matter but when this New Yorker travels outside NYC, pizza is usually out of the question because nowhere else gets it right. However, the scent did smell appealing so we skipped the ice cream and grabbed some slices. I am happy to report our slices were absolutely more than passible for non New York pizza! I adored my ice cream (I waited too long to write this review, so I don't even remember what flavor, but it had coconut and was super delicious). We came here on a weekday in early April when the weather was decent but not hot. There was no wait, and the staff were great about letting us sample the different flavors. Unfortunately for my spousal unit, he chose a flavor he hadn't sampled and was then disappointed. But the ice cream is fresh and high quality, and the folks working there are pleasant and accommodating. At Frankie's I learned an important life lesson - hot sauce is delicious on pizza especially when it's the Black Panther hot sauce bottle that Frankie's carries! Frankie's was one of the only spots open around 9 pm when we made it to Mendocino from SF and were ready for dinner but I'd choose it again for an easy dinner even if there were other spots open. A musician was playing cool, country-ish live music while we enjoyed our pizza and drinks (wine for me, beer for him). I was happy with the pizza dough (my favorite part of a pizza!) and that there wasn't too much cheese on the pizza (I'm a bit lactose intolerant). A great, laid-back, kid-friendly place exactly where you need it. The food, ice cream, and service is great to boot. Normally, I'd probably give a pizza and ice cream parlor like this four stars, but it's something that desperately needed in Mendocino and the staff are super friendly which earns it the extra star. In particular, on a Friday or Saturday night in Mendocino there's pretty much no restaurants that are remotely kid friendly. Everyone is catering to the romantic couples' getaway, which I understand, but you need some safety valve for those couples' that actually got on with the dirty acts and procreated. :p My wife got the felafel in a pita and it was the stand out of the meal. Everything about it was just delicious and fresh. That really took me by surprise, but in a great way. I got the one with pine nuts and goat cheese, which did exactly what I was hoping for and had some really nice, pungent flavors without being too greasy or heavy. You should also try the ice cream. It's made locally and was definitely worth having. The candy cap mushroom ice cream was surprisingly good. Enough so that I got it after tasting it. Very different and you should have it at least once. Cinnamon ice cream is always good, but hard to find, so we got that for the second cone. read more

Not our problem, the customer is always wrong here. the food is at least a 6 on 10 scale , but maybe the only 7 item was the falafel. I would go again if the owner hadn't told me that her failures need to be compensated for by the customers. WHAT? The service over the phone on our take out order was basic with a sprinkle of "not my job", truly didn't care about the customer or the business. (except Luis, he was the only service oriented person in the mix, good job Luis, teach you coworkers what the Service in service industry is please). I searched for local restaurants on Google (80%+ of global searches are on google), and looked at Frankie's business listing for the menu and number to call in and order from. I ordered based on the menu on Google listing. I ordered about $35 in food and show up and the bill me $65+ in food. I asked for the manager, was lied to because that person had to get another and then that person had to get Luis. first person said, "oh we don't got anything like that", nice way to represent the biz. Second person impersonated the manager because she obviously didn't know what to do when a problem arises. I got referred to Luis who seemed like the only person with a brain. Luis acknowledged there was an issue and said he'd have the owner call me. The owner called and left a vmail that essentially said not my problem, prices changed. Well, miss owner, Google doesn't just list your menu and prices, you have to get a Google listing first and populate that yourself. So, all of the information IS your doing AND your problem. If you double your prices, you need to tell people on the outlets that you've chosen to market through. The owner begged off on all responsibility and said it's entirely my fault and didn't offer any olive branch for the misunderstanding that her business practices created. The quantity and quality of food that we got for $65 was a joke. It was worth about the same as the menu said it was worth $30-40 at best. Luis, you need to go open your own restaurant and train your people like you operate and get away from the thief owner and illiterate clown posse. read more

Took my family to Frankie's pizza today. Will never return again. Food was decent and the service was good. The cashier was pleasant. We spent $160.00+ on 4 pizzas. Our bill came to $120ish and I tipped a 20%+ tip consisting of around $30.00. After our pizzas arrived my husband asked for three small ranch dressings to go with our pizza. They refused to give us them and charged us an additional $5.00 for a few small containers of ranch dressing. While I appreciate people who work in food service and always make sure I tip well... I don't appreciate the extra nickel and dime charges. I can understand if I ordered one pizza to go. I spent a lot of money in there establishment and tipped well over what the service warranted. You can have your $5 for ranch. We will never return again! Even the checker at the local market agreed and mentioned they were under new management and heard their service had declined. We were looking for a neighborhood gem on our road trip up the coast and I can say for sure that we found it at Frankies. They serve pizza by the slice as well as full pies. We decided to just get slices. We ordered at the counter and then choose to sit in their upstairs seating, which is a cute little alcove. They also have s nice little patio that would be great to sit on layer in the year most likely, but it was a little too cool and windy today. Shortly after we say down, they brought our slices upstairs and I was surprised by how big the slices were, we're talking Costco size. They were both thin crust, which I don't normally like, but Frankies is the type of place that could definitely convert me. Though thin, it was soft, rather than crispy, which is why I normally don't like thin crust. The pizza sauce had a nice mellow sweetness to it. I just had cheese, but my husband had pepperoni, which he thought was made better by the complimenting sweet sauce. He called it simple but well executed pizza. Slices were.only $3.50 and for the size, I'd say that was a spot on price. After lunch we took a quick walk around town before doing back in to round out the experience with their ice cream.
