Best breakfast (food) in Tucson. Been in Tucson over 3 years and haven't found one place worth yelping but Frank's is it. Not only was I completely satisfied with the food, the staff is unbelievable friendly and welcoming. The chorizo, scrambled eggs, and home fries were perfect. The pancakes are the size of the plate and finger width thick. And the biscuits and gravy (which had chunks of sausage) were also great. read more

Frank's is the place to come for a no-frills, quick breakfast. Despite it looking quite busy on a Sunday morning, my boyfriend and I were sat immediately at a table for two. We were brought water right away and my coffee was soon to follow. The kitchen is open, and you can see all the food being prepared in front of you if you sit at the counter. Our server was friendly, but they don't waste too much time chit-chatting. I ordered sausage patties with eggs, and my boyfriend got the hungry person breakfast. Mine came with hashbrowns (or you can choose homefries) and a biscuit (or choose toast or tortilla). My meal was good. I've also had a breakfast sandwich and the chorizo and eggs before, both tasty. My boyfriend's meal was three eggs, hashbrowns, a ham steak, a pancake, and a biscuit with gravy. He was hungry and mowed most of it. He said everything was good. I think the prices are fair. Everything is under $10 except the hungry person breakfast, which was $10 and change. You do get a good amount of food. And they have a $2.25 breakfast special on weekdays. We've been to a number of the breakfast dives in central Tucson, and I prefer Frank's over Bobo's and Brawley's. read more

Franks!! I love it here. We come here multiple mornings every time we visit Tucson. They make you feel like family. The food comes out really fast and the staff is really friendly and fun, you can tell they enjoy their jobs. It is a greasy spoon, the decor is outdated and stale but it kind of works with the vibe of the place. "Elegant dining elsewhere" says it all... you come here for the food and the smiling staff. And you will leave with a full belly and a good attitude. There is a tiny patio that is quite nice to sit on even on chilly mornings. The French toast is amazing! read more

The food is great and the service fast, friendly and efficient. Despite their "eat fast and get out" slogan we have never felt pushed to hurry. We eat mostly from the Mexican menu but their patty melt is tasty and has just the right level of greasy cheesiness. Best chorizo in Tucson and the beans have a wonderful smoky flavor. The burro is huge and full of flavor. I dislike the coffee but they don't force me to drink it so they still get five stars because every other aspect of the place is outstanding. read more

Our server was really friendly and overall got great vibes from this place! We got there right at 8 am when they open (recommended bc there was no line and not packed at this point). I could give this place 10 stars if there was an option! This place just reminds me how an old fashioned diner was ran in the old days, the servers remember your name and what you usually order( if you're a regular of course). The cooks are very nice and very talented in terms of cooking multiple orders at a time. I've seen reviews complaining about cold food or not to their liking, all I can say is I'd like to see you get behind a hot kitchen and cook for multiple people for hours on end and get all the orders perfect! ITS A STRESSFUL PROFESSION AND NO ONE IS PERFECT! Regardless there's always tomorrow and the next day to try something new or give it a second chance. I've ordered a handful of items there on the breakfast menu but my favorite would have to be steak and eggs, very simple yet very delicious with extra crispy hash browns. Franks is a great way to start the day with good hearted honest people with an intention of providing actual service with a smile! Which is Hard to come these days. I was eating lunch with my friend and her baby when her baby accidentally drank the hot sauce on the table before my friend could stop her & the baby vomited all over the table and floor. She was mortified and upset and trying to clean all while tending to her daughter. The staff was 100% kind and thoughtful. They brought us milk for the baby to calm her mouth and cleaned up after her with no problem. We apologized profusely and every single time they assured me it was no problem and one waitress even assured me we would be welcomed back. It's rare to find a restaurant that is cheap AND has incredible customer service. I've only been here a few times but now I will definitely return. I was in Tuscon for a month attending a class at the University and Frank's became my morning go to spot.. This place is a bonafided greasy spoon and I LOVED IT! I rarely strayed from the Early Bird (2 eggs over medium, hash browns and toast) all for $2.25. Watching the cooks put out delicious breakfast items while sitting at the counter was a sight to see. What I noticed is that, if you ordered biscuits with your meal, it took a minute because they were still in the oven, but the wait was well worth it. The people here were very friendly and willing to chat. I had several interesting conversations about Bigfoot with a regular. My only complaint is about the salty old lady that is there on Wednesdays. I gather that she owns the joint or something but, it's like dealing with a cranky old grandma, but what do you expect for someone that is a thousand years old.. anyway.. try it you will not be disappointed! read more

me and my daughter went to frank's to get some breakfast to go i live down the street so it was also a nice walk as the weather cools so we ordered our food went home i had waffle which they call belgium and bacon and home fries so i started eating my waffle and after a few bites i almost ate a long hair in my food i was so disgusted and thank god i seen it before i put it in my mouth. i called immediately to speak to the owner francisco he was rude and told me he would give me a gift card i hung up and went the next morning i seen the waitress who served us and i'm pretty sure it was her hair as she jumled on the defense and said these things happen it's not like we planned it took everything in me to stay calm i said please just give me my money back remember the customer is always right you guys should be ashamed of yourselves i will never ever eat there again read more

Let me start this review with a disclosure. I LOVE these types of restaurants: no nonsense, good cooking, rough around the edges, all about the food and a good time. None of the fluff you get at so many of these breakfast joints where it's all aesthetics with no substance or an atmosphere only a grandma could love. Frank's is the REAL DEAL. Now that I have that out of the way, let's talk about my meal. I had the meatloaf which came with a dollop of mashed potatoes, a bowl of corn, and a fluffy biscuit. From the first bite I was in love with the meatloaf. It was well seasoned, bursting with tomato flavor and a strong meaty goodness. No need for ketchup or salt, the cook made this up so you could just shovel it in your mouth and enjoy. The sides were just as delicious. Creamy mashed potatoes with skins and plenty of butter(just how I like em), a standard bowl of yellow corn to throw in the potatoes and a hardy biscuit with plenty of jam choices to slather on that bad boy. I can seriously taste that meat loaf right now as I write this, I NEED to go back and eat it again. Frank's is the epitome of what makes good food. No high strung descriptions, no farm to table marketing crap, and none of this over thought out forced emotional experience. So... it's been a while since I have been on here and I have a lot of catching up to do. Going to spend a few months in AZ and decided to start checking out the local favorites. Frank's---- What an AWESOME way to start! Sunday morning breakfast with the neighborhood people. Super friendly staff, and regardless of how busy they were (packed with people waiting in the parking lot), they get you your food quick, hot and deeeeelicious. We enjoyed the french toast, veggie omelette with egg whites and a pancake with blueberries. And when I say blueberries, I do not mean the blueberries you get in the store that appear to be on steroids. I mean the fresh tiny, tasteful, succulent blueberries! That goes for the rest of their veggies as well. You can definitely taste the freshness. This is a must-try in Tucson, AZ. And but the way, this is a mom&pop place. It is obvious they concentrate on the food moreso than what other upscale hoity-toity restaurants might tend to. Deal with the warmth, sit outside if you can, order, eat and go. Franks/Francisco's is the best! Consistently perfect breakfast or lunch. Eggs always perfect and liver and onions with potatoes and gravy a revelation. Love the 70's music, the happy vibe of long-time staff who work together effortlessly in a cramped kitchen space, the superhuman powers of the cooks who throw down hundreds of perfect meals by the hour without effort. I was looking for a cheap, cheap breakfast and remembered the early bird special at Frank's. When I arrived at 9:30 I saw that the special only runs until 9am. When I didn't see anything else on the menu I was interested in, I got up and walked away. My waitress caught me and asked why I was leaving. I let her know I was looking for the early bird special but was too late. She said, "I'll give it to you! I want my customers to be happy!" From now on, I will go to Frank's for breakfast. A better sign for this place: "Elegant service elsewhere." So true. I used to love Franks. My parents took me here often. Great home style cooking. Real waitresses with sass. A nice friendly place with good food, food enough for heavy eaters. Sadly I returned as an adult. I know there is probably a lot of good stuff about Franks/Franciscos. I would give it higher ratings but.... I had the worst experience with a waitress there a few years ago. And I won't go back. I don't care if that waitress is gone or whatnot, because a horrible experience like that is inexcusable for repeat business. Someone can have a bad day here and there. But this waitress really messed it up. My buddy and I popped in for breakfast and a surly, pissy waitress finally came over to get our order. It was obvious she was having a very bad day. Guess what? All of us do. And I don't ever take it out on the people I serve. She snapped at us for asking where our ice teas were, and told us to get them ourselves when she put them on the counter. The order took forever, and she barked at us when asking for the bill. I have had moments where service is slow, orders are forgotten, but I've never had a waitress in my life "You'll get your damn food stop bothering me." My husband and I went to Frank's this morning to get some breakfast after reading a lot of positive reviews on Yelp. We were not disappointed. The food is reasonably priced and plentiful. I had the Wednesday special, the chicken-fried steak with two eggs (over-easy) and home fries. I chose a biscuit as my accompaniment, and there was country sausage gravy over my steak also. It was all delish and I was barely able to finish it. My husband ordered the steak and eggs with hashbrowns and rye toast. He also enjoyed his breakfast. The waitress was friendly and available, and she brought everything out to us in a timely manner. No complaints. The interior of the restaurant just screams "greasy spoon!", so if you are generally put off by vinyl tablecloths or older looking paint and flooring, you may not love the way it looks. But it is clean, even if it's not brand new. The table next to us... *sigh* I feel like maybe they should have just turned around and left after they walked in and saw the place. All they did was make snarky remarks under their breath! The waitress asked if they wanted ice in their waters, and after she walked away they acted as though that was the most ridiculous question EVER asked. And when she asked them if they wanted their toast buttered, they did the same thing when she walked away again. The wife had a sourpuss look on her face the entire time, like she was just entirely unhappy they were eating breakfast here. OMFG!! The placed was packed this afternoon as it always is on weekends, find yourself with good timing and get seated quickly at the bar, a table or in the outside patio area. The purple laminated menu is chalk full of diner favorites. Eggs made to order and orders made to please. My sausage Biscuit and Egg sandwich was amazing. The right mix of light oil and flavorful meat made it a joy to have. The house fries with onions, peppers, and well seasoned are a great compliment to this special. Add some salt, pepper and Tampico and you're in business. The house hot sauce is like minced salsa and a bit on the spicy and vinegar side, in a good way. After reading Yelp reviews, we ventured to Frank's for breakfast. We weren't disappointed. The decor is as advertised - local diner/hole-in-the-wall. There's nothing fancy about the place - which is exactly what we wanted. My wife had french toast, 2 eggs and bacon. All were perfectly executed. the french toast was thick and custardy, with a crispy crust on the outside, doused in butter and syrup. The eggs fresh, with bright orange yolks, and cooked exactly as asked. The bacon was porky (surprisingly hard to find) and crispy. I had hueveos rancheros and a side of chorizo. The eggs were perfect, laid on a bed of home made beans and a crispy corn tortilla. A little mild tomato salsa on top. The hash browns were good, but less crispy than I like. Some of the salsa at the table fixed them up quickly. The chorizo was fantastic. Greasy, spicy, porky deliciousness. The service was brisk but extremely friendly. Franks is a complete dive, nothing fancy at all and they let you know about it. Went there for breakfast, order the chicken fried steak and eggs which was pretty good. Frank's was great! They serve up some amazing pancakes, chorizo and huevos rancheros! The rancheros were very scrumptious and the chorizo, well, it's chorizo...very good chorizo! While eating some of that chorizo and huevos though, I looked over to find a large squeeze bottle filled with a new hot sauce to me. The second I put that on my food, I was addicted; I even tried to see if I could buy some from the restaurant! To my dismay though, I could not. It was a local hot sauce that I would have to go to the mercado to get (it's called Poblano, by the way). The servers were extremely nice when I asked them about it and even gave me directions. Now that's quality service! Back to the food, and by that I mean pancakes! They were perfectly fluffy, moist and soaked up the syrup like a sponge! Did I mention that they're huge as well?! No? Well they are plate-sized. A stack of those could leave a person in a food coma for a week! Luckily for me, I split them. When I'm in Tucson, this is my little divey gem. I'd been in Tucson a little over three months and was actually on my way to The Blue Willow in my continuing search for "my" breakfast spot when I missed the turn from Tanque Verde onto Grant. So I headed down Pima instead and figured I'd go ahead and take it all the way to Campbell just to see what there was to see. Well, that had to have been the most fortuitous missed turn ever, because lo and behold I pass this hole-in-the-wall place whose patio is FULL at 8:30 on a weekday morning and I thought "Whoa, Nellie! Gotta see what Yelpers have to say about that place." Which I did while I ate my perfectly good, but nothing-to-get-excited-about meal at The Blue Willow. That was two weeks ago and I've been to Frank's twice now since. The first time was last Wednesday and I ordered the special, which happens to be my very favorite breakfast - chicken fried steak and eggs, hashbrowns and toast. Holy moley, I've FOUND it, I thought! This is my place!!! Generous portioned and freakin' fabulous chicken fried steak smothered in delectable gravy and perfectly - I mean PERFECTLY cooked hash browns. I went back today and had the huevos rancheros and again left feeling over-the-moon in love and absolutely thrilled I found this place. It ain't much to look at (I love the sign out front!), but the food is all that matters and that they deliver in spades. Oh, and the waitress remembered me! That's always nice. :) read more

People who know it hear the name and smile (perhaps remembering breakfast after a particularly eventful night out, or perhaps because of their favorite breakfast dish). People who don't know it tend to chuckle when I explain it is Franks in the morning Franciscos at night. It isn't fancy. That would ruin the charm. The servers are busy but nice. First off, as others have said and the ambience rating states, this place is a dive-y diner. Nothing spectacular, and if you sit outside, the pigeons try to get awfully close, but there is a fly swatter out there--use it. With that being said, I had a pretty darn good meal here with my friends a few days ago at lunch. I give it four stars because our service was good and the food was cooked right. The best part, to me, was the choices. So many tiny places like this can't afford to keep choices availables to the guests, but I had many to make when placing my order. I got a patty melt and I got to pick the cheese (provolone), the bread (sourdough, yay!!) and my side (I just got the fries, which were cooked exactly right, although next time I'm getting the potato-mix deal).
