I like that you can have a side of balsamic to dip it in if you don't want it on top but I feel it needs more mozzarella and the basil leaves would be nice whole, not torn, though I feel I'm getting nitpicky. Summary: Decent hipster pizza at hipster prices. Freak Brothers Pizza is one of eight shops in the industrial decor "The Churchill" complex. Each is built out of a standard shipping container with well-appointed interiors. Seating is in a central community area of large picnic tables and pallet chairs. There are large ventilation ducts that didn't seem to be powered on. But two enormous ceiling fans keep the air moving, making it just tolerable on a summer day. First was a $12 Spinach Artichoke pizza on gluten-free crust. The GF crust was pretty good. I didn't even notice it when trying a bite, which is high praise compared to most GF crusts. The only really distinguishable flavor on the entire pizza was the tomato sauce. And it literally just tasted like plain, unseasoned tomato paste. Next was a $13 La Miabella pizza on standard crust with chicken added on. The crust was tasty and just the right thickness. The toppings were *very* subtle in flavor. Where typical pizzeria pies will tickle your tastebuds at level 8-10, this was more like a 3. The quantity of chicken was light-to-medium, but with only a 50¢ upcharge, it was a reasonable amount. At this price point, I probably wouldn't return. They'd have to drive the price down to around $10 before I think it would be worth another try. I came here a while back, but I wanted to leave a review because as a small business owner I understand that this is the lifeblood of your business. Especially in times like these in dealing with Covid. The location at The Churchill is awesome, with all types of restaurants, a couple boutique shops, and bars for any occasion. Ample seating, TV's, and just a great place to hang with family and friends to unwind. I'm vegan, so this place had a few options to accommodate my needs. They can make almost any pizza vegan. I attended this company not to long ago and encountered a terrible experience at this restaurant. the employees are rude and don't know what customer service is. Michelle specifically had an attitude every time I'm in there. if she hates her job so much maybe she could leave and find another one. the manager doesn't care how his employees treat his customers and talks crazy to people the same way. The pizza isn't even that good to act like you're better then the people paying you. on that note I recommend finding another pizza shop. First thing, this pizza is delicious! The location is near the first Friday event so it was super convenient, especially since it has a walk up window on the outside. I would have given 5 stars but here's why I didn't.. The only bad thing about my experience was that I had to wait almost an hour for one pizza.. the reason for that being that the online ordering was down ( I ordered online). I had to come back about 20 mins, to which they said they had given my pizza away to someone else on accident because it didn't have a ticket. That was quite frustrating since I had already been told to wait extra time ahead of that. I waited another 10 mins or so until my order was called. I spoke to a guy named Josh who was sincerely sorry about the whole incident, he had offered to give me something for free since I had been waiting and he even gave me a full refund. I firmly believe there is some serious chicanery going on here. I scoured the phone book and couldn't locate anyone with the surname of "Freak". Now I have to question if they're even truly brothers. Good thing their pizza is honest-to-goodness terrific and that's the truth of the matter. It's kind of like driving a car, nearly anyone can do it-pizza that is. But only a few can drive a NASCAR. I've been known to throw some flour, yeast, oil and water together, come up with some doughy dough, ladle some sauce on it and claim it's a pizza. The artform at Freak Brothers is indeed, slightly (ok, significantly) more elevated. Located in the ultra-cool, ultra-hip Churchill in downtown Phoenix, this pizza joint serves up some excellent pizza. Princess had the margarita, my brother in-law had the spicy sriracha chicken. Both of these 12" pizzas were spot on, highly flavorful with much thought going into the flavor combinations. Crust is thin, chewy, and fantastic. Luckily the Princess doesn't eat her entire pizza in one sitting (like yours truly) so we had leftovers for breakfast! So even if Freak isn't your given name, whoever is throwing pies behind that name is "freakin" awesome. You will not be disappointed in your pie. There are a great number of gaps in the Downtown culinary scene that could use plugging. Pizza is indisputably not one of them. Downtown Phoenix is a mecca for pizza (Cibo, Bianco, Pomo, La Piazza, Forno 301, etc.). So it's worth asking: is there room for Freak Brothers? Can Downtown support another pizzeria? Let's find out. So I did, on a warm spring Friday afternoon. Freak Brothers is located inside the Churchill, a food court and entertainment space constructed almost entirely out of used shipping containers on the northeast corner of 1st Street & Garfield. Look for the pizzeria in the southwest corner inside. Freak Brothers is a food truck turned brick and mortar, founded by brothers Nathan and Jamil Coury. The food truck was famous for their vegan tilt and some of those elements remain with their brick and mortar. But they've also expanded the menu to include a number of traditional pizza favorites as well as some sides and dessert items. As with most of the restaurants in The Churchill, Freak Brothers is a simple operation taking up a small space. Order at the counter, they text you when its ready and you grab a seat in the middle of the Churchill complex. As of this writing there's about half a dozen pizzas to choose from as well as a hummus app, a few salads, and a few desserts. There's also about a half dozen drink options (all non-alcoholic). For my first visit, I decided to measure Freak against the Downtown competition the same way I measure all would be competitors. Just give me a traditional Margherita pizza. Dough, sauce, mozzarella, basil. Simple and pure. I also got one of their Sea Salt Brownies (made by Chandler's Sugarloaf Lane Bakery) and added a Superberry Kombucha. Total cost for all the food, drink, and tax came to $22. Food was ready in less than 5 minutes. First, the kombucha. For the record I'm pretty dubious about kombucha and don't really understand all the hype behind this trend. My super berry kombucha was pretty good though all things considered. Like a carbonated berry soda, with a slightly lighter more herbal finish. Now let's talk pizza. I gotta admit, Freak Brothers makes a beautiful margherita. Tasty one too. The crust doesn't have quite the crunch or the char I love from places like Cibo and Pomo, but its only barely misses the mark. The cheese, tomato sauce, and basil however were all right on the mark. A very respectable pie, almost surprisingly so in fact. Lastly the brownie. And this thing is super thick. It's as heavy as a brick, but fortunately not hard as one. Soft, moist, and rich. Not quite as much of a salty texture as I was expecting, but a delicious dessert nevertheless. So there you have it. Freak Brothers isn't dirt cheap like your local Domino's or Pizza Hut, but its price and quality are pretty competitive with their most popular neighborhood competitors. And it seems that The Churchill crowd has mostly responded positively. Next time I'm here I'll probably give some of their more unique pies a try. But if you're craving traditional as I was this go around, Freak Brothers appears to be quite worthy of your tastebuds. read more

Needed to catch up on my Yelp reviews so finally posting this for one of my favorite pizzas in Arizona! I LOVE that Freak Brothers has vegan options! Very impressed that they are mindful of where they source their ingredients, organic and fresh. Their crust is absolutely light and tasty, the sauce not overpowering. The service has been quick and friendly, and this was back when I'd have their pies after a race. I would be more than happy to grab a bite should you guys come up here to Sedona. ...or maybe I should just start joining a few of Aravaipa races again if you still set up shop there. :) Keep up the amazing work! read more
