Tried Frechuss for the first time, and despite the place being so empty, the experience was great. The lady taking our order was incredibly sweet and welcoming. I ordered the smashed avocado smoothie with durian ice cream--what a game changer! Creamy, rich, and layered with flavor, especially with the peanuts and coconut shreds. I devoured it and definitely need more. A hidden gem worth trying. read more

The place is cute with lots of fish. There are so many things offered on the menu I got their signature avocado smoothie with additional ube ice cream. I think the price is kinda expensive for 2 scoops of ice cream and avocado smoothie but the drink is delicious. read more

If you love durian and are in the area, definitely stop by Frechuss! I absolutely loved the combination of durian and coffee. If you're a fan too, you have to try the Dur-Phin. It's coffee topped with durian ice cream, plus they make it extra fun with nuts and shredded coconut. It was such a treat! The price was a bit steep--about $7.50 for a regular-sized Dur-Phin--but honestly, that seems pretty normal these days. It was worth it. The interior of the café is really cute and makes for a great spot to meet up with friends and bond over your shared love for durian. They offer other durian desserts as well, but I'll probably stick with the Dur-Phin next time--this time paired with their dark French drip coffee. read more

Was craving pandan waffles and found this highly rated spot near me. Upon entering, the store was relatively empty and there was no one at the front booth, but there's a QR code to order from. My friend and I both ordered a Pandan Waffle (Bánh Kẹp Lá Dứa) each (so 2 separate orders) and a lady eventually came out and told us it would take 15 minutes. After 15, only 1 order was completed and the other order was missed so we waited another 15 minutes. When we went back to check, she said it would be another 7 minutes... We ended up waiting over 40 minutes for our waffles, which the server kindly apologized for. The inside had no air conditioning on so it was warm and a bit stuffy in there even with the door open so we had to wait outside. The waffles themselves were okay, not the standard sized ones split by 4 but 4 mini ones instead. It was crispy on the outside but soft on the inside so the texture was good, but the flavor wasn't quite right and was too greasy tasting. Sorry to say it was not a good experience overall; maybe this place is better for ordering ahead and getting drinks to-go. read more

I also got the pandan waffle and it was delicious! It was a little more cakey so keep that in mind! The worker was very friendly and helped answer any questions I had! Avo durian is a must if you go here! You'll thank me later. If I'm in OC, there's a 50-50 I'll stop by here (and Pickle Banh Mi). I literally can't find these avocado durian goodness anywhere else in LA/OC. It reminds me of the ones I would get in Vietnam and I love that the durian ice cream is the perfect balance to the avocado slush. If you're not a fan of durian, the ube one is another classic. The space is small, so I usually get it as take out. But bonus is that the owners are also super sweet. I'd say if you've never had durian before, this is a great spot to check out to try. read more

3 years later and this place still doesn't disappoint! It's a hidden gem. Their Dur-Avo is the best item! It's in a dead area but their desserts are very tasty! I must admit the decor feels a bit confusing and congested. I do like to see the fishes but their home does seem a bit crowded. Getting to the desserts, I would highly recommend the avocado durian ice cream, it reminds me of when I used to eat it back in Vietnam. The coconut pandan waffle was perfectly crispy just satisfying. If I didn't browse using Yelp, I wouldn't know abt this place. The place is not surrounded by foods places or complex, and the sign outside is not readable either. But I'm glad I found it, because this place is good, and people should try it! I do love the wall paper inside, its a good place just to chill with your friends..and plenty of parking. I order the Pandan Waffle, and OMG!! Is big and fluffy.. very soft in the inside. Really good!!! The smell is very fragrant of the pandan and the mix of coconut milk, and there's also shredded coconut meat, so it's really good!! As for the Dur avo w/ ube ice cream... a really good treat to have. Almost like halo2 (Filipino dessert). The avocado, there's small chunck of it, so not all of it being blended, and on top it has roasted almonds and shredded coconut. I just wish, they put in more of the durian. Overall is a really good!! And everything is made fresh, so u just have to wait abt 10 min. So check it out!! read more

First timer! I learned no utensils are needed, you simply pull the waffle apart and enjoy like a cookie! The waffle had a great taste definitely a dessert waffle, a little sweet but not too overwhelming. It also had coconut shavings inside. Highly recommend. read more

Freshuss?? My friends and I look at our phones while searching for a dessert spot after dinner thinking *HOW DO YOU SAY THAT?!?!* Like freshesttttt?? Or like... fresh+precious = Freshous? It triggered a KC and JoJo karaoke session -- **And I will never find another love more FRESHUSS than you, more FRESHUSS than youuuuuu** Anyways back to the review, Freshuss seems to be a Vietnamese snack and dessert shop. Plenty of parking in this strip mall. The interior has PLENTY OF PLANTS, and little flying bugs that comes with those plants... and a bunch of tables and chairs. Although I had to wipe down our table with some wet wipes since it was sticky and looked like there was residue from the desserts of the person who last sat there. My friends and I all got the Durian Ice Cream ($4/scoop). Durian ice cream is a rare flavor so we were pleased to see it on the menu. The portion was like a tennis ball size. Loved the taste and the texture of the ice cream. This ice cream alone will bring me back for future visits. Next time I come back I really want to try their Dur-Avo which is an avocado smashed or smoothie topped with this durian ice cream and some dry toppings. It was a nice spot for my friends and I to chat and enjoy dessert and catch up on life before we took off in separate ways. read more

I absolutely love the Dur-avo (mashed avocado with durian ice cream) here. Yes, there's other places that popped up doing similar things but what puts this place above them are the various toppings. Other places will have crushed peanuts and shredded coconut but this place have more toppings. It's not overly sweet and sooo good. I've tried their frechuss bowl and that was good as well. Tons of toppings. I've also had the banh trang tron and it was just ok to me. The sauce is a tamarind mixture. Their flan with coffee in ice is also good. I don't have much to say about the service. It's not bad. It is a little slow since it's only 1, sometimes 2, people working. Place could use an update. I think they should get rid of the fish pond, tanks and plants. Too cluttered. I do like that they don't blare loud music so people can actually hear each other talk. read more

So happy I found this spot and it caught my eye right away because of their menu items :D I tried the dur-avo (smashed and also the smoothie versions) and the dur-avo ube smashed. My favorite was def the dur-avo; smashed was really good because of the texture of the avocado, but I was able to taste the durian more in the smoothie version which is what I wanted. The dur-avo ube was also delicious but I couldn't taste the durian at all :( All of the drinks come with peanuts and almonds which add a nice crunch, but the peanuts can be a bit overpowering The interior is well-decorated and the plants and water fountain they have inside are really cute :') Friendly service,, would go back! read more

I always goes here for the durian avocado. This always hits the spot! It reminds me of when my mom makes it at home with the condensed milk and the peanuts. This time i am paying someone to do this I personally feel like the prices have gone up but I know inflation has stuck all of us. Due to being poor, I'll come here once in a blue moon lol or when I had bad cravings or when my mom is unavailable to make this for me at home for free 99 lol Jk this place is great, bussing, as these young kids say. Very good avocado smoothie! Comes mixed in with coconut milk and condensed milk. Also ordered the beef jerky papaya salad. Didn't have high expectations but it was actually pretty tasty! Papaya was fresh! Comes with tamarind sauce and hot sauce. The decor here is very confusing though. My new go-to place for smashed avocado with durian ice cream/gelato. I use to frequent another location until I found Frechuss through a friend. Love how you can place an order over the phone. The regular size cup is a good size for me and I personally would never get the large anyways because it seems like it's about the same size between the two of them. They give you a lot of the toppings and the durian taste is more prominent here which I love. Perfect treat for the summer. read more

This pandan waffle was way better than i expected. It has a good balance of Chewy and crunchy. It has coconut flakes in it. It's made to order so it does take about 20 min but thats usually for pandan waffles. It seems like this is run by a couple. So feels good to support a mom and pop shop! read more

Amazing Avocado-durian shake! It's made with fresh smashed avocado with condensed milk and topped with durian ice cream, shredded coconut and almonds. The menu is available with the QR code and you can order online if you like. The guy took my in person order. There's appetizers and other shakes available. The place is a little dim inside but quite. I came on a Sunday late afternoon so no one was sitting in the small place. read more

This place changed. I came for the banh trang tron and it didn't come with shredded mango. They replaced their shredded mango with papaya -- so I am eating a papaya salad not banh trang tron. I came to the counter, ready to pay and pick up my order. The man behind the counter just look at me and continue eating his lunch -- he didn't acknowledge me or tell me someone will help me soon. This place is dark, humid and hot with a lot of dusty faux plants. It looks dirty behind the counter, looks like a whole living room back there. read more

Dur-Avo smashed is super good including the dried coconut and peanut toppings that makes me remember vietnamese street food. The durian ice cream has a strong taste and the flavour is yummy compared to other places I have tried. The avocado flavour is good too. I can tell they chose high-quality ingredients that are fresh and flavourful. Next time, I should order the biggest size. This is my first time here and i will be back more frequently to try other desserts. I would give them 5 stars had the Rice Paper Salad been less salty and sour. That's a deduction! read more

Have been to this restaurant many times, and food is always consistent! Came visit to the restaurant last week, and ordered my favorite Grilled Escargot with Garlic Butter and Peppercorn, Grilled Scallops with Cheese, and my all-time favorite Chilean Sea Bass hot pot! The grilled escargots are a must-have when visiting this place! These are perfectly grilled with rich garlic butter for sweetness, and with a slight kick of spiciness from the peppercorn. Don't forget to also dip the escargot meat with black pepper and a few squeeze of fresh lime juice! If you like melted cheese, then the grilled scallops with cheese would be the perfect match. Each scallop is covered melted cheese and comes sizzling on a hot plate when ordered! Last but certainly not least, my favorite dish of this restaurant is the Chilean Sea Bass hot pot. The order comes with your own tabletop gas stove, along with a hot pot filled with a tom yum like sour soup base. For ingredients, it also includes a plate with slices of pineapple, quarter cut fresh tomato slices, fresh bean sprouts, rice noodles, and a full plate of large pieces of Chilean Sea Bass. Just put all the ingredients in the hot pot and let it cook for 5-10mins on high, I promise you it is one of the best soups you will ever have! Service is good as always. This place always seems to be busy, so you may have to be on the waitlist during certain business hours (eg holidays, prime dinner time, etc). Parking wise, the restaurant is located in a busy plaza, and so you may have to drive around a few times before finding an open spot. However as I said earlier, it's worth the wait. You pretty much eat it by wrapping it with the lettuce or dip your noodles into the sauce. Very authentic and delicious without being overly heavy. There isn't much service here since they seem to be super short staffed but they do have delicious authentic Northern Vietnamese food so we absolutely will be back again!

The last time I visited on a Monday, the lot was completely full, and I ended up parking on the street. The restaurant is also primarily cash only, so come prepared. They open early, making it a perfect breakfast spot for an early bowl of pho. The pho broth is exactly what I want when I'm craving comfort food--clean, flavorful, and incredibly soothing. However, the star of the meal for me was the chả giò. Wow. Although they arrived after our pho, they came out at the perfect temperature. I was hesitant to take a bite right away because freshly fried food usually burns my mouth, but these were just right. Crispy, airy, savory, and absolutely delicious. Paired with their fish sauce, it was perfection. I enjoyed the egg rolls so much that next time I'm definitely ordering the egg roll vermicelli bowl. Service was friendly and prompt despite how busy it was, and it's clear the staff works hard to keep things moving. One thing I love is seeing all of the awards and accolades displayed on the walls. Phở 79 received the prestigious James Beard America's Classics Award, and it's easy to understand why after one meal here. This restaurant is truly an Orange County icon. The restaurant will soon be moving to a new location, as signs throughout the restaurant announce the upcoming move. While I'll miss the original spot, I'm excited for the new space--hopefully with more parking! Some places are worth the wait, and Phở 79 is absolutely one of them.
