First things first; we (my Family & I ) were celebrating our December birthdays and recalled all of our Great memories of dinning at Freddy's Steak House. I called a few weeks ahead to make reservations for a party of 15. Speaking with the manager ( Frank ) who gave me his personal cell phone number; Eagerly assisted me with all of the arrangements. Which I really appreciated. Well, it had been probably 17 years since we last ate there and got lost on our way to Freddy's ; which as you know made us late for our reserved time. Frank was very kind and texted me to make sure that we were okay and still planning on coming to eat. Our lateness pushed our reservations into another birthday party's reservations. However, we made it and EVERYTHING worked out perfectly. The wait staff was Excellent (Daisy) our waitress and 3 awesome others who helped took very Good Care of us. The Live singing was Amazing and added a a really Special touch to our whole experience. Food was delicious; sorry no pictures this time guys. Been here many times. It's a local place and it's great. With regard to the recent slamming reviews, there's more to the story than these people are saying. They booked for a party of 25 people 44 people showed up. That makes a big difference when you need more weight staff for a larger party. Secondly, the credit card was declined, or as they claimed put on hold. Some people walked out after they were done eating, and when they were stopped and asked if they were going to pay, they said no they weren't paying. Fourth they were quite rude and nasty to the Weight staff calling them names. Finally, the police were called. It was over a $2000 bill that they wanted to walk out on. Please stop playing that damn race card. And for a church group you certainly didn't act Christian like. Christians don't cuss, steal/scam. After visiting Freddy's for a friends birthday dinner, I have several complaints about my experience. FIRST of ALL, we were impolitely told to return to the party room since the bartender was overwhelmed with our simple orders at the bar. We obliged and went to sit in room where we were told that 3 servers would tend to our needs. Only two ever showed. If the party was too large, and since I was not the host so I can not confirm this statement, and you knew you couldn't handle the additional patrons, you should have informed us that you couldn't accommodate us and we would have never stayed. Secondly, no one pushed or called anyone names besides complaining of the slow and subpar service (which is name calling, it's stating facts). Also, are you referring to the dollar tree balloon weights as table settings? Because that was the only thing on the table beside the pile of rolled up cutlery. Lastly, if she paid the deposit, one would assume that the card used was kept on file. A request for a new card was never mentioned until after the police were called. We never received a bill prior to the police being called. I literally had just received my room temperature salmon, almost 3 hours after my arrival, when the police walked in. We never even had the chance to pay. At no time was a request for payment made. We looked up mid meal and saw the police, as if to say, "we just fed them, now let's call the police before they get the chance to run out on the bill". This is ridiculous! At any given time, anyone at the table could have handled this tab, which was not even expensive considering everyone there was working or retired professionals with lucrative income. We all felt extremely insulted and do not doubt that this was all racially driven. This transaction required no support from law enforcement whatsoever. It was a case of discrimination, prejudice, and racism, plain and simple, and you can't convince me other wise. Oh, and by the way, the card declined due to a fraud alert placed in it for a large purchase from an unknown establishment, not for lack of funds. Black people have money, please understand that if you don't understand anything else. Lastly, what you should be doing is trying to find a way to right your wrongs. The extremely slow service with no apologies from management, cold food, improperly made beverages, and overall attitude of your manager is what you need to focus on now. My first visit to Freddy's was last week Friday, January 29,2021. This place is a true gem. I loved the feel of the Supper Club from days gone by. My dinner companion ordered a Ribeye Steak that was grilled to perfection, I ordered the full slab of ribs. They fell off the bone, tender and delicious. Service was excellent . Did I hit Freddy's on a bad day? The food might have been good if it had been hot. The steak was warm,bur the lobster,perch,and potatoes were cold. TH waitress tried but adressed my 97 year old mother,myself,and my daughter-in-law as"guys"and couldn't remember which of us had which dish,although the restaurant was not busy. I am so disappointed with Freddy's Steak House. I have been here several times in the past and had wonderful service and tasty food. I decided to have my 45th Birthday dinner here and it turned out to be a bad idea. I called the restaurant on January 26th and asked to reserve the back room. I was told the only way to reserve the back room for a party of over 20 was to come in person, make a deposit and leave a card on file. I came in on January 26th, spoke with a manager, we viewed the room and went over details. He asked how many people, I said 20-30 but there may be more or less. Some may bring a plus one, others may not show. He said the capacity of the room was 50, so there couldn't be more than 50. We went over how I wanted the room arranged, he also told me to choose 5 or 6 items from the menu and people can choose from those items vs the whole menu. He said there would only be 1 bill and not a bunch of separate bills. I gave a deposit of $200 and told him that would be the card on file. Everything was set to take place February 4th 5-8pm. I arrived 15 minutes early to set up my balloons and cake. I discover the room isn't set up according to the agreement. I asked if they would set it up as I had planned. I was told they couldn't do it by 1 manager. I knew it could be done because we had it that way for another event. Another manager comes in and says they can't move the tables. I told her as well, it could be done, it was done before and that was the agreement made on January 26th. They moved the tables, but now it's after 5. My guests began to arrive and wait at the bar. We finally get in the room around 515pm. Guests began to order drinks and food. Some of the guests were not pleased with the food and the amount of time the service was taking. I was walking around interacting with my guests and taking pictures. Most of the guests had eventually received their food and were beginning to eat. I look up and the police were there. I asked an officer why were they called and they said 2 people had left. I told them those people had sent the money to me (the host) and I would pay the entire bill when everything is finalized. I hadn't received a bill because people were still eating and some still hadn't received their food. Now, they try to run my card before I receive the bill and before everyone received their meal. My bank denied the transaction as a fraud alert, not for insufficient funds. No staff of Freddy's spoke with me (the host) before calling the police. If my card wasn't on file that would have been an error on the restaurant, because the ONLY way to reserve the room was to come in person, make a deposit, and leave a card on file. I could have easily rectified YOUR mistake had you spoke to me. Your first action was to call the police, instead of communicating with me. No one was trying to run out. My mom was there, she is 87 and could barely walk out, let alone run. You really need to do better as an establishment. This was a horrible experience, but you did manage to make my 45th Birthday one that I will never forget. read more

I wish it was possible to leave zero stars. This was a great example of how an establishment does not want to serve African Americans. Was there for a birthday dinner, and it was assumed that we would skip out on the bill before the bill was even presented to us. They called the police during the appetizer course, telling them we would not pay. So you can understand the confusion the dinner party had because meals had not been served and yet the police are here asking us why we won't pay. Wow where to start. We stop in for first time and the ambience thwy looks like a family style place old fashioned and friendly staff. The waitress Chantelle was uper friendly and was nice to talk.to and suggested what to get. My mother had 8oz steak which was juicy amd zesty she hadn't had a steak like that In a while. I visited Freddy's Steak House for the first time about 2 months ago. I ordered the lake perch with some sides and it was delicious. My friend ordered a porterhouse steak, I asked if I can try it. Let me first say I'm not much of a steak eater but that steak was tender, cooked well done and the flavor was outstanding. I first heard of Freddy's from my younger sis months back who was asking me about it for my brother-in-law who was planning to dine there. I went to Yelp which had mixed reviews but I saw a "Yelp buddy" gave it a rave review so I bookmarked it for me to try it one day. D and I went there Saturday afternoon about 25 minutes before they were open (4:30 PM). Thankfully the time went by and since it was an unseasonably warm December 2nd, we waited on their bench outside. The exterior of the restaurant definitely reminds me of an old 60's flick. The parking lot itself is a bit of a confusing mess if you enter it from 164th Place. You have angled parking towards the building with no obvious exit other than to reverse back where you came from. If you park closer to Kennedy Avenue or 165th street, you'll have an easier time escaping afterwards. One of the workers came out to let us know it was time to enter. We were officially the first customers of the night. The dark wood interiors with the cherry upholstered seating made me think of the movies Scarface and any of the Godfather's. We sat one section from a corner booth where you could sit and have a nice view of the entire room and who was going in and out. Don Corleone would approve...LOL. One minor nitpick on the seating...there was a guy who was seated behind me who literally pushed back against his side of the seating enough to push me forward. It was a bit irritating but alas it's the nature of the style of seating. Our server said she was a month into working at Freddy's and forgot to mention some of the specials but she was friendly and efficient. I spied a section of different martinis and settled on an sour apple one. We were given a warm bread loaf with honey butter to nosh on while waiting for the main event. Both D and I went for their porterhouse steak, I had mine medium well and he had his well-done. D substituted the soup specials for a larger bowl of french onion soup which he enjoyed. I had a cup of their turkey chowder that was good. D especially loved his steak which he said was extremely tender and melted in his mouth. Mine was a little chewier but still very good and D noted my piece seemed a bit thicker than his. We wuzz lusting (lol...thinking way back to Robbyne Manning's infamous quote on the very first season of America's Next Top Model) over the photo of the molten lava cake with a marshmallow like topping. We both agreed we'd have to split one for dessert. Alas we were disappointed to learn that the cake was a November special and was no longer available. I settled for a pumpkin praline cheesecake which D wasn't too enthused about. He changed his tune quickly when it came out though...LOL. It was so good and a perfect way to end the evening. The food I did not care for. My fish was too crispy and salty. I ordered a baked potato they gave me salty old fries. Like they were sitting there since lunch. Ask for tarter sauce they give my sister sour cream. They charge extra for dbl baked potato when it was cold. Waiter was so busy in conversation with one other guest that we got tired of waiting for him we just walked to cashier to pay for bill. And he didn't even notice we left until we we're heading for door. But hats off to the two bus boys. They were kind and very polite. I tipped them. Shouldn't have tipped waiter but I did. I've lived in several states but every time I came back to Indiana I went to Freddys. Its steaks have always been high quality. I've never had bad service even when it was busy. This place has a classic 70s decor atmosphere, carpeting and red booths. Its an old style steakhouse but the food is very good!! The filet mignon, the steaks, the ribs fall off the bone and we havent ordered an appetizer we didnt like. They are very generous with the food. You get soup or salad and endless warm bread at the table. We've only had 1 thing we definitely didnt like and that was their Poor Boy sandwich. There was more fat than meat. NEVER AGAIN! Horrible experience to say the least. Where can I start? Hmmm let's see.... First, you don't really know the places exists unless you put it into the GPS. The "digital sign" is in the worse place for a business. In the back of the parking lot that let me tell you, looks like a bunch of hillbillies put a layer of ultra-cheap blacktop over the previous surface. Besides that, the outside doesn't look as bad for the area. This should have been the first indication of what I am in store for.... As I approached the building I was greeted by a cloud of smoke by what looked like a waitress. Who mind you never said a word to us, only worried about her cigarette and phone. Then before we could even enter an older lady came full force smacking us with the door cigarette in mouth and told us we need to be careful??? Like seriously I believe you went out the wrong way lady. But anyway. So, I walk into a foyer and I am greeted by a Decorated Christmas tree? Yes it is done up with the coming holiday so kudos to that I guess??? And as things aren't weird enough I look over and I see what seems to be a church bench pew??? Hmmmmmm. Interesting I must say the least.. But anyway, you walk past the restrooms that mind you aren't labeled in anyway shape or form. Besides some bull horns that hang over them. As you walk In, all you can notice is a bar that literally looks like it's sinking into the floor! How this gets past building code is beyond me. Above the hostess station are they dusty germ infested vines that look like they were built with the place. I feel bad for anyone that sits in that little area behind the hostess stand. The dust and dirt that just fall in your food and drinks I truly feel bad for you. So let's continue... I look around and notice not many people in the restaurant besides a few tables of what seems to be "locals". Made me feel a little uneasy for my wife and I. We heard many good things about Freddy's Steakhouse from our grandparents and parents on how it use to be 15-20 years ago. So this is why we are here to enjoy a good steak dinner. Well, this is so far from good that you can definitely stay clear!!!! When we sat in these booths that looked original and felt like it too! As you looked around the room pictures were hung with images of past places. The dining area had a roof which looks like an addition was put on. The ceiling tiles are spray painted black to probably hide a leaky roof. I am assuming because, if you look really good you can tell were the water was filling the ceiling tiles. The ground has old red ripped carpet that seems not to have been replaced since the beginning of time. You also notice the server station that's in plain view. The ground is covered in what looks like "door mats" turned upside down to probably cover "wear marks" in the carpet. Above the server station the ceiling seems to be falling down because of warping. Maybe, idk.... After the waitresses were done laughing and using there phones they finally noticed us. This was probably after a cranky crotchety old lady that was obviously drunk told them we were waiting for about 10 minutes without water or even being greeted. This is when we realized the lady the hit us with the door works here. We later found out this was the bartender??? She literally looks as if she should be retired. We spotted what looked to be a manager behind the bar making herself a drink in a solo cup. All I could see was alcohol going into the cup. I believe it was a vodka bottle if I'm not mistaken or some clear liquor. When she approached the table we could definitely smell cigarettes and booze oozing from her pours. Definitely not something you want to encounter before dinner. We told her we were just waiting for a server to take a drink order. She looked at us for a minute without saying anything, and told us a server should be with us in a few moments? Are you kidding me right now? I am thinking, because a manager of a restaurant would technically apologize, and just take the drink order. Am I right? Well after a few minutes we get a waitress that.... well... you could clearly see is very unhappy with her job and seems high on something (keeps sniffling scratching her arms and hands, eyes were bloodshot ). She also smelled of cigarettes. Does everyone in this restaurant smoke??? Like seriously???I believe her name was Jamie ,Julie or something. To be honest she was pleasant at the table but that is about it. Her knowledge of the menu was another story. All I have to say is stay clear of this place. Also, eat at your own risk. read more

High priced meals that are a good solid average. Double-baked potato for $4 was a huge disappointment - inedible. NY Strip was prepared properly but I would bet it was USDA Choice, and Not Prime, based on how "dry" it was. Even with the high prices they still feel a need to charge a 4% fee on the entire bill for "non-cash payment". That's the straw that broke the camel's back here. We are done with Freddys. Our waitress, Melanie was sweet & never rushed us with our courses. Kept our drinks full. Our dinner was Fantastic. Started off with french onion, a hint sweet but still very Good. But you know the saying "don't judge a book by its cover" well that's literally what happened with my experience here. If you looking for a restaurant with a great structured or modern appearance then this probably is not the one you're looking for. Had an amazing meal at Freddy's Steak House this evening with my family. A gentlemen named Shawn was extremely personable and made us feel right at home throughout the entire evening. The Filet Medallion meal that I ordered was excellent, and the wine sauce that it came in was to die for. The soup, potatoes and salad that were included with the meal were a great value for the price. The Chicken Piccata, ribs, salmon, and Sirloin were also big hits at our table. Please go some where else. This establishment is a scam. They charge a fee for using your credit card. My order was over $350 and they charged me $13 to pay using my credit card. I asked the staff why they didn't inform the customers of this charge before and alert them to the charge,. There is a fraudulent and conspicuous fee being charged here. This is not right. They stated that there is a sign on the door alerting patrons of this fee and this is a lie. Also I had to send my lamb back due to the blood on my plate to be refried .
