Seriously, I gave this guy 2 weeks to work on my suit and guaranteed me it would be done by the time I came back. The only thing done was done were the pants. I was so irritated that I paid for an incomplete suit and left. Highly unprofessional and now I need to find a different place to finish with what he couldn't do. His response when I came in was "I told you to call me before you came in". MotherLuver, i have you two weeks to finish it. He postponed my work till the day I came back. I went to this tailor shop after getting my suit at Al Weiss. I got two pairs of the same kind of pants tailored: hem, waist, taper. One of the hems was spot-on. The other needed to be redone. Both of the tapers were uneven. In both cases, the left leg is skinnier than the right. In one case, the seams don't even line up at the crotch. While one pair of pants is wearable and the unevenness is not noticeable, the other pair of pants is too small to fit into and it's fairly obvious that one leg is smaller than the other. Make sure you try on your clothes when you pick them up and inspect them thoroughly. read more

The person handling the translation is extremely unprofessional and tried to weasel his way out of the situation he put himself in instead of owning his problems and fixing it the right way. After doing some research I decided to shop for a suit at Al Weiss and go ahead with the alterations at Freddy's. I ended up with two amazing suits that I was excited to have tailored to my fit. Freddy's is very close by, and since the gentlemen at Al Weiss did recommend them while I was there, I decided to overlook the few negative reviews. Freddy was very nice, efficient, and as he pinned the modifications to make sure they were what I wanted, did a very good job (straight lines, everything looked uniform). Any hesitation I had was set aside by the experience. That is, until I picked up the suits after they finished. I debated giving an extra star because the jackets were both done very well, and the pants were hemmed evenly. However, when I wore the pants, both pairs on both legs showed crinkling and distortion about 2 inches from the bottom, where they had sewn in the material on the inside. Essentially they fold up the pant legs inside and sew it in. Now, whether this is standard procedure for a hem or not, I honestly have no idea. It is however, my humble opinion that one of the characteristics of a good hem job is that you can't IMMEDIATELY tell that they have been hemmed! You can see a slight circular wrinkle in each of the pant legs that is uniform enough to make it look like these pants have a fold at the bottom, upward and outward. I'm not sure on the specific measurement of these folds on the pants that actually have them... but I'm pretty sure they're not almost 2.5". So I resign myself to go back, thinking that it's really not that big of a deal. It's $5... if he really wants to rook me into another $5 to re-hem each pair correctly, I would even be willing to pay that in order to get the results that some of these others have apparently received. However when I go back, he shows no sign of recognizing me at all (which is not a big deal, until I realize he's purposefully not showing any sign of recognition because that is associated with something called rapport and customer service). I tell him that I had my suits altered there a week or two prior, praise the job they did on the jackets, and point out that when I wear the pants, you can easily tell they've been hemmed, and trace the line all the way around the legs. He looks for a second and goes "ya," and goes to measure someone else. I sit there kind of dumbfounded, and after a minute he looks at me for a moment, not saying anything or taking any action... so I shrug and ask if this is normal, or did they mess up, or will these wrinkles go away after some ironing or what? Freddy: "That's the way they are done." Me: "Yea but you can TELL they've been hemmed... even if they all come out like that right afterward, do I just need to iron them and they won't show like that, or what?" Freddy: "We do them all like that." (takes pants and shows them to co-worker). "Right?" (co-worker nods) Freddy: "Ya that's the way they're done. It's like that." (goes and helps someone) Again, I praise the job they did on the jackets. But for a hem... and then to be like that when I'm just trying to get some more information? In my opinion, that unfortunately deserves the lowest rating I can give. It's akin to you being served, for example, a cold steak. You bring it up to someone, and they say "Oh yea that's because we didn't heat it up enough." True information that is completely and insultingly irrelevant and useless, followed by a claim that steaks are supposed to be cold, and therefore you can't have it heated up. Even if you don't cook very well, I don't think many would disagree, upon trying the cold steak (or seeing the poorly hemmed pants), that the steak is not the way it's supposed to be. I understand why Al Weiss recommended a different tailor shop on this same day that I returned with half of my groomsmen, and I'm glad I told them to go check that place out while I try to handle my issue with Freddy's. read more

I went to Freddy's a few months back, and I knew I would be coming back at some point. $25 for tailored pants and suit jacket was a deal. I was directed from Al Weiss suits (check them out if you haven't yet - great selection, great prices, amazing value). However, after returning today, I was slightly disappointed. Their rates have hiked up to $30 for just a suit jacket as of 11/2015. The upside is that they are mighty quick on their return times. Upon dropping off my jacket, they told me to come back in 30 minutes and it would be ready. And lo and behold, they stayed true to their word. Quick service, moderate price, not a bad choice. read more

Dropped off pants and jacket inside Al Weiss bag. Only hemming the pants. Would pick up my pants 4 days later, expecting it to be done. Arrived on pick up day pants aren't even done. Unorganized and overpriced for the work done. To make matters worse wouldn't even discount the price after all this hassle. This may be a little harsh, but I didn't have a great experience here. It took an extremely long time 3+ hours to get 2 pants hemmed and tapered and 1 set of jacket shortened. I thought the tapering was a little bit off and it was + the pants were still a little long so the pants ended up bunching up. They had to fix them so it too even longer... read more

I'm from out of town and had a big event on Friday in Los Angeles. For whatever reason I waited until Sunday afternoon to buy two suits. I had back ups just in case but wanted something nice. I was leaving for Los Angeles on Tuesday so I knew my regular tailor couldn't turn around altering two suits in a day. So I looked to Yelp. Freddie's had some great reviews so I tried them. I didn't get to the shop until nearly 4:00pm on Tuesday and asked if there was any way to get the pants hemmed and the sleeves shortened on two suits by Thursday afternoon. The kind gentleman told me that they will close early this Thursday. I was sad. But then he added, that if I wanted to come by the next day they would be ready. I asked him what time and he asked me what time was good for me. I chose nearly 4:00 to give them at least 24 hours and as I walked into the shop at 3:45 my suits were hanging right in front. The gentleman had me try them on and they were perfect. I know it may seem odd to rave about a tailor, but these guys are good. I've had quick tailoring done in the past and it shows. I will consider coming here for all my alterations. I know it's a city away, but it's worth it. I'll just have to get a little pile of alterations done at a time. Walked in with my friend's Al Weiss suit and this is the actual conversation we had. Me: Do you know around how long will it take to alter? I assume Freddy: HEY! DON'T ASK ME THAT. DO I WORK FOR YOU? LOOK AT ALL THE SUITS. I DON'T WORK FOR YOU. Takes my friend's pants from the bag and slaps it down on the counter. Freddy proceeds to be passive aggressive as hell. Freddy: When is the event? Tell him several months from now. Freddy: *throws his hand up at me* This guy- By this point, we've had enough. Me: I asked since we would be back later that day for another person's suit and was wondering if we could have it picked up later or rushed aince we aren't close by. We will go elsewhere. Then, realizing we are leaving, Freddy: *slightly more politely and not yelling anymore* No one else can do this. Only we know how to do this. You leave and no one cam help you. Whatever arsehat. Like many others who have reviewed this shop, I rolled in with a nice suit from Al Weiss that I was excited to get tailored to a great fit. Freddy was friendly, but seemed more eager just to hem the pants than to take in some extra fabric where the sleeves attach on the jacket. On my insistence, he did pin it up and I gave him a week to get it done as I was not in a rush. When I went to pick up the suit, it appeared that the jacket either was not worked on, or they did such a minor alteration that the extra fabric was still lumped up around the sleeve. Just like when I walked in with the jacket the week before, the extra fabric was a lot more pronounced on one side of the jacket than the other, but Freddy insisted that this was "normal." The simple hem of the pants was fine, but Freddy would not budge about the "normal" look of the jacket, even when I pressed a bit. I decided it was not worth an argument as I did not think he would get it right the second time after whiffing so badly on the first attempt. So I just told him that I would just have to go somewhere else to get it done right. I must have pushed his pride button, as only then did he get his tailor to come take a second look. The tailor said he could take in more around the sleeves, but I thought to myself, what if he messes it up and goes too far to save it? So I paid my $30 and bailed. I'm sure there are other good tailors downtown, but it's far from my home, so I went to G&V Tailoring in Santa Monica (highly rated on Yelp). Although the tailor said it would take $125 to alter the suit, he explained that he need to take the sleeves off entirely to adjust the fit around the shoulder, in addition to taking an inch off the sleeves. I have not seen the work yet, but based on the stellar reviews, I'm anticipating a good fit. I wouldn't have minded paying Freddy more if he had actually done the work, but since the suit looked the same on me as the week before, I don't know that he even touched it. I'd rather pay more and be satisfied with the work than pay less and feel like I was fleeced. Sadly, in this case, I will end up doing both! Like many others, the salespeople at Al Weiss told me to go to Freddy's. I was so disappointed in Freddy's work and attitude, I walked the block back to Al Weiss from Freddy's with my jacket to show them and let them know that they might consider recommending another tailor. If you just need to get a hem done, you can do it for $5 at Freddy's. Otherwise, I think you should look elsewhere and realize you get what you pay for! read more

Freddy got my new Al Weiss suit tailored in 24 hours, and he had a significant work load too. My jacket and trouser cuffs needed work. I like these two stores -- Al's and Freddy's -- I think they do good work and my family was impressed. I used the $ 5 all day parking at Athena Parking -- across the street from Freddy's at about 935 San Juan St. since I had other stores to visit. There are usually open, short term parking spots around 1000 San Juan if you're lucky and need to make a quick stop at Al's or Freddy's. Thanks and see you soon! read more

This is the worst Tailor Shop I'd ever been to. The service is horrible and the woman in charge is plain rude! No appreciation for your business at all. Her work really isn't that great. The only reason why I came here was because I was picking up flowers at the flower district and I happened to park next to this business. I should have gone with my gut and drove to my normal tailor shop a few blocks down. If you're looking for good service, reasonable prices, and great work, go to Mike's tailor shop on Santee instead.
