We decided to try this place on a recommendation from my sister. The restaurant is located in old town Tustin and we found parking in a nearby parking lot. There's also street parking if you can find it The place itself is really nice It's very modern and open and it also has a patio area if you prefer to eat outdoors. I ordered a soup for my mom. She always loves a soup and it was the soup of the day which was mushroom. I ordered a regular size bowl and it was a pretty big bowl/portion-they have a half size as well. Now my mom is pretty particular and if she doesn't like something, she will let it be known. Appearance wise the soup didn't look that great but it must've tasted amazing because she finished the whole bowl. I also ordered their chicken Pannini and split half with mom it also came with a side salad. Let me tell you for not being "real" chicken It tasted really good! I would've never known the difference had I not known it was vegan. To drink I ordered my mom a ginger apple drink that she seemed to like and I ordered an iced coffee. It was really good... It came out like a slushy and was delicious. we were with some friends and they all seemed bto enjoy their food. One friend ordered the hamburger. The Patty on that thing did look very vegany not even sure if that's a word or not but you know what I mean you could tell it wasn't beef. She said it was just OK. She took a bite of her mom's Caprese Panini and said that was a lot better than hers we also ended up ordering four desserts yes I said four lol this Group definitely likes their desserts. We ordered a red velvet cake, a peanut butter, cheesecake,, Keylime pie, and a coconut cake,, my favorite was the Keylime pie and the coconut cake the desserts are small, but not too small so you can share with your table .Service was great. you sit down and a server will come and take your order..the gentleman that served us was very kind and attentive. my sister says they have amazing pizzas but apparently they don't serve them until after 5 PM. Still the best food. The only vegan spot my non vegan boyfriend willingly drives 45 min for. Quality food. Super consistent. We'll get the waffles, potato hash. Iced vanilla latte and a chocolate croissant if we're lucky. And for dinner we'd get creamy potato gnocchi or fettuccine, sausage pizza and maybe Brussels sprouts or caprese salad. Or any of the veg sides really. Key lime pie is legit. I also go here when I'm sad because it makes me happy. Eh. Came here at 8pm on the dot, actually, probably more like 7:58. The server says they close at 8pm as of now. And the only food they can do is to go. Their hours are all kinds of weird on Google and yelp and their website. So I suggest you come early and don't expect a Spanish style dinner. For a vegan place.. they could be better. Got the truffle mushroom burger.. the patty was delicious but the bun was just an awful choice of bread. A brioche or even regular hamburger sesame seed buns would be better than this piece of dense wheat. The truffle flavor.. despite all the mushrooms, I couldn't taste much of it. Even ate the thing without the bun just to see and it was.. in need of salt. Or soy sauce. Or mirin. The green beans were good. Nothing to write home about or brag to your best friend's girl about. Fresh beans but a little greasy. The server recommended it-- that or the Brussel sprouts. I was looking for something slightly less farty. Perhaps I should've known better. The caprese salad was the only thing that's.. interesting in a weird way. The cheese is all vegan so it was just basically a mushy glob of tasteless mascarpone. But their heirloom tomatoes though.. everything about this place just screamed fresh quality ingredients but lazy execution. Whoever is in charge of the produce selection, deserve a pat on the back. I love a good tomato but it's hard to find one that doesn't have that fishy fertilizer taste. The place is also.. pretty dimly lit in terms of their sign. So good luck trying to find it at night without your old folks glasses. Or perhaps I'm just more blind than I realize. *Be aware that their Yelp hours are not accurate- as far as I know one weekdays, they close at 8.* (First time coming here, I went by their Yelp hours and arrived a little before 8, in which I was told they are closed- and that they don't have access to changing their Yelp hours) I came by again for dinner during the week, I have had this restaurant bookmarked for a while and was excited to finally try it! Honestly, their food was just "good". We tried the Fennel Sausage pizza, Chikin Fettuccini, Brownie and ice cream dessert. The presentation of the food is great, but honestly looks much better than they tasted. The pizza was good but nothing too spectacular, especially for the price. The middle of the dough was not the sturdiest and didn't hold the toppings when picking up the slices. The outer crust was actually the best part of the pizza, so yummy and perfectly airy inside. The Fettuccini Alfredo had a very nutty taste. I have had some really good white-sauce pastas at other vegan restaurants so this didn't really hit the mark for me. I think next time I would just go for one of their red sauce pastas. Lastly, their dessert was slightly disappointing because it looked SO good but the brownie was a bit dry and not very warm. I did have very high expectations, especially because of how good their pizzas look. But I would have to say that they didn't meet my expectations. Freesoulcaffe has been a stable in the OC community. I really enjoy their food and the values they embody. I have been vegan for close to a decade and they have never steered me wrong. Sure there are dishes that I love more than others, but overall the quality has always been consistent. I am a huge fan of their burgers considering they make the burger patties from scratch. Even the bun feels very wholesome and unprocessed. It's the one place I can eat a salad or a side of vegetables and feel good about it. Freesoulcaffe is such a treat! A vegan paradise if you will. This is one of the few vegan restaurants that I would never associate as "vegan" first and foremost. Anything you know about vegan restaurants - go ahead and throw that out. This is a standalone, wonderful, aesthetic and flavorful dining experience in its own right. I used to come here as a vegan, and now that I eat meat, dairy, all the things, I still LOVE this place! My husband is vegetarian so this is a great spot for us. The staff is amazing, I believe it's family owned and independent, and they are attentive, warm and welcoming. The ambiance is lovely. There's a beautiful outdoor area and a warm indoor restaurant as well, and you are always offered your pick when you arrive. Parking is pretty ample. We came on a Saturday night 2 hours from closing, and there's street parking. This is in Old Tustin and it's a gorgeous area with classic architecture. Freesoulcaffe boasts a menu that feels "just right." Salads, pastas, burgers, soups, sandwiches, pizza, even ramen and lots of great dessert options. Note, they do not sell alcohol but they have alcohol free beer for our sober friends, which is awesome! We ordered the following: Matcha Granita - yum!!! A classic Italian granita, made with soy milk and matcha. They also have a coffee flavor (cafe) and mocha. Hatch Burger - vegan jalapeño cheese, hatch chili relish, sriracha aioli. This is the burger that looks a bit plain in my photos, but it is EXCELLENT, promise. I'm a bad photographer :) always comes with a salad! Sprout Burger - LOVE THIS. So refreshing and healthy, but so tasty. Organic alfalfa sprouts, avocado, Roma tomatoes, red onion, house spread. They also have a great looking sprouts sandwich if that's more your vibe! Potato Pizza - UGH THIS IS DIVINE!!!! I always fall in love with this every time I have it. You can smell the fresh rosemary before you even have a bite. Golden potato, fresh rosemary, vegan feta cheese, creamy white sauce. Pineapple Coconut Cake - Wow. For the portion, such a deal. You get a whole mini cake! The cutest vegan restaurant located in Old Town Tustin! My friends and I came in for a late brunch, which gave us the chance to try breakfast and lunch menu items. I've had a couple vegan meals before, but Freesoulcaffe does it best! My friends were skeptical as they've never had vegan food before; they ended up liking it. I'm truly glad that they got to experience "good quality" vegan food here. The service was great as the staff gave us time to look over the menu and didn't rush us. It's a classic sandwich that reminds me of the ones my mom would make growing up. Thing to note that this place is a work/study-free zone, so if you're spending time alone here, you can't have a laptop or textbooks out haha I just thankfully had a book! Refreshing surprise!! So my friend who eats meat actually recommended this spot. I assumed they had some vegetarian options and was willing to give it a try. I just trusted all the positive yelp reviews but didn't really look at the menu. When we got to the restaurant, I realized that the entire menu is vegan! Whaaaaaaaaat. So freaking awesome. This is music to my ears. That means I can order ANYTHING off the menu. Anything I want. This place is such a blessing for any plant-based peeps who don't participate in animal cruelty/ consumption or have issues with dairy products. I was so happy that I didn't have to order a bunch of sides to create a plant-based meal or do substitutes to make things veggie friendly. And the menu is big. It's not just a couple things you can order. They had a big menu with lots of options. It is mostly sandwiches, salads, and soups. They have some dessert options as well. I ordered the veggie panini sandwich and a chicken Cesar salad. Both were good! I think I enjoyed the chicken (vegan chicken) Ceasar salad more than the panini. The dressing didn't taste like Ceasar, but it was creamy and good with the mock meat and greens. My veggie panini just had too many vegetables lol It overpowered, and you couldn't even taste the pesto sauce. I also ordered the Oreo cheesecake, and it was rich and amazing!!! So good. Our first time visiting tonight and we left so so impressed! Everything was absolutely delicious and it felt and tasted like non-vegan dishes. We spoke to our servers and food runners and they let us know that everything is made in house including their vegan burgers! The cream sauce used in the creamy gnocchi dish was out of this world. Also the squash blossom pizza with cashew burrata was so dang good. What really impressed me was the Oreo cheesecake. I'm going to spend the rest of the year dreaming and trying to figure out how they made it! The texture of the cake itself is SO LIGHT, almost like how a sour cream and mascarpone base cheesecake is!! The interior of the restaurant is also very classy and romantic, in our opinion.
