Visited here twice while in Austin on a girls trip - once in restaurant and the other to go. When you walked in, it felt like you'd been transported to New Orleans. That's great since the restaurant in a shopping strip in a busy Walmart parking lot. There were some unsavory characters hanging outside the restaurant but everything about the restaurant was nice. We were tucked away in a quiet area of the restaurant. Our server was extremely nice and knowledgeable. They provided freshly made bread which we quickly gobbled up. We started with chicken and sausage gumbo, shrimp gumbo, and fried green tomatoes. The roux on the gumbo was the perfect color and it was so flavorful. My friend loved the tomatoes. We all ordered the same thing - catfish ponchartrain with dirty rice and red beans & rice. We had zero notes. Everything was on point. The chef was definitely in a zone and we were more than pleased with our meal. I'll definitely be visiting on my next trip to Austin. read more

This is my favorite restaurant and where I have my birthday dinner every year. These are the old recipes from the original Gumbo's and they are still just as delicious. The Crawfish Eddie (off-menu) appetizer is the perfect blend of creamy tarragon sauce, crawfish, and mild cayenne kick over French garlic bread. I still ask for the shrimp, crawfish, and andouille sausage pasta and substitute tarragon sauce (off-menu) just like the old days - delicious. Service is always fantastic and efficient, the drinks are great, and the ambiance is cozy and dark enough for a date night while also relaxed enough for a casual meal. Don't forget to finish the meal with their bread pudding with ice cream and caramel sauce. I hope these guys stay open forever. read more

I always enjoy dining here. The food is always amazing and the staff very delightful. The owner even takes time to stop by the tables. I have been here for lunch numerous but never for dinner. However, that is on my list. There was a fire at the restaurant a couple of months ago. I am happy that they have reopened. The inside looks a little different than what I remember. Im an East coast guy so most of food scene in Austin is a downgrade but French quarter grille is light at end of tunnel. The simplicity, but yet complex and extremely balanced flavors of each dish have me drooling, thinking about it, and contemplating when I can squeeze in another visit. Appetizer: Blackened Shrimp Yoli, was just perfect. Yum, Yum, Yummie in my tummy! The Wedge salad, was fresh, salty and creamy. Entrees: The special were shrimp served over white fish and served with grilled squashes. I'm admitting here that I might have licked the plate... The sauce was on point, and complimenting the fish. The tenderloin was smooth as butter. The red wine reduction was the best! Dessert: a Habanero peach cheesecake. The spice was just a slightly little kick. I love the sweetness of peach, and the cheesecake was sublime in total! Dessert was truly the cherry on top of the all-5- star meal, that I was able to enjoy. This didn't phase the hostess and we were seated immediately. Our waitress could not have been more professional, and personable. She handled our group with ease, and made us all comfortable. I had an incredibly disappointing experience at French Quarter Grille .The gumbo was inedible, with crawfish that still had feces in it, and the flavor reflected that. Naturally, we sent the food back, but instead of addressing the issue professionally, the owner/manager displayed appalling behavior. He looked at us with disgust, shook his head, and showed zero willingness to resolve the situation. To make matters worse, he responded to my friend's review by calling her a liar and even went as far as saying he hoped we "kept our word" and never returned. This level of customer service is unacceptable. Mistakes happen, but the lack of respect and professionalism from the management is what solidified our decision to never return.
