It's a little out of the way for us but she had been here a couple of times so knew I'd be impressed. We started with Fried Green Tomatoes which were amped up from what we're used to. A friend and I were looking for some good Cajun food near by. He had been passing this place forever so we decided to give it a try. We were very pleased to see they were practicing social distancing but service was still professional and warm/inviting. The menu was so exciting we couldn't decide and decided to let the waitress help. We decided on a fish entree with seafood eroufee and gumbo. They serve pieces of a warm baguette and this amazing herb butter that is like a drug because I couldn't stop eating it. ok let me be very frank here with this yelp... I have eaten at many steak chain restaurants and local hot spot mom & pops spots, and sadly I would have to say that this did not live up to the hype.. Now the red beans and rice were very good but when it came to the steak and asparagus both left me with disappointing taste buds... The asparagus was very plain and the steak was 1 quarter of marbling and plain..If it wasn't for the carmelized onions and sauteed mushrooms the steak would have been totally lame.. My waitress was very nice and personable but the food was not top shelf tonight. It was a wasted $40 dollars.. I could've went to longhorn steakhouse house and got better food.. Had the loveliest date night here! The decor is truly French and very fancy, this is a table candle type of restaurant! The food was excellent from the bread and appetizers to the drinks and desserts! The rolls and butter were so good as well as the escargot. We had the hurricane punch and daiquiri for our drinks along with the caesar salad and cup of chicken andouille gumbo. The gumbo was so good I was not expecting it to be so good! For entrees we had the chicken pesto pasta & the crawfish etouffee. I loved the tortellini it was excellent. Lastly for dessert we had raspberry cheesecake and orange creme brûlée. Excellent cajun food! A bit more gourmet style rather than all fried. I had the stuffed catfish, which was topped with a crab cake and smothered in ponchatrain sauce. Included sides of veggie succutash and a cup of red beans and rice, which were some of the best I've had. Forced myself to try the key lime pie, which was also some of the best. As a fairly recent transplant to Austin, an old friend and long-term Austin resident took me to the French Quarter Grille to celebrate my relocation. Our dining experience was impeccable from beginning to end! First up, Scott (one of the owners) helped us select an outstanding bottle of wine from their very expansive wine list. It was the perfect compliment to our meal and we enjoyed every last sip. Tip: After dinner, I looked up the retail price for the wine we had enjoyed so much and was delighted to observe that FQG's markup for wine is much more reasonable than most similar restaurants; instead of 100%+, their price was only around 20% over local retain :-) Despite being located inside a strip mall, the ambiance and the service at FQG are spot-on, which proves that you shouldn't judge a book by its cover ;-) Even better than the ambiance and the service, the food was nothing short of amazing! We shared a broad selection of dishes which included the blackened redfish with dirty rice, the crayfish and the pork tenderloin. Each selection not only tasted wonderful, but everything was beautifully presented as well. The portion sizes are generous, and the prices are surprisingly reasonable given the overall quality of the food, service, and ambiance. Our server came to explain the special to us and take our drink orders - immediately. The place is dark, but in an inviting way. Cosy, comfortable. We had a view of the kitchen. Ordered the chicken in a gravy sauce with prosciutto. Husband orders the steak. The food was beyond delicious and on point. The manager (I think) came to talk with us about the meal and my Jeep. Very friendly and informative. We finished and as stuffed as I was I couldn't resist the dessert. Bread pudding with bourbon caramel sauce and vanilla bean ice cream. Yes... blew my mind. Visited this location with 2 friends recently. The last visit was 2 years ago even though I live 5 minutes away. The only thing I remember from the last visit was the entrée portions are huge and good service. While my memory is still fresh, I want to review the food now. First off, they were generous with their wine! We each ordered a wine by the glass because we couldn't decide on a bottle. The pour was super generous! Felt like a double. I ordered the catfish gumbo (blackened catfish over dirty rice and topped with shrimp and crawfish gumbo). Their portions are still huge, rarely do I not finish my entree and we skipped appetizer. I personally love fried catfish and they didn't fail me on a blackened version. It was a huge filet, tasted so fresh and perfectly cooked! It was spicy, but I loved it! There was a side of cabbage that was quite good as well. Nicely seasoned. I had a quarter of the catfish filet leftover. Fried shrimp dinner - generous portion of plump fresh nicely fried shrimp, accompanied by the requisite red beans and rice, and a gift on the side of sautéed squash that made it a meal. Shrimp etouffee - very generous with the shrimp, a little bugger in every spoonful. Very mild flavor, had to bump it up with some hot sauce, then really just tasted like hot sauce. Chicken and andouille gumbo - a classic rendition. Some reviewers love the crawfish beignets, some don't. I found myself in the later category; they were kind of hushpuppies that tasted a little off. this place used to be good but it's been slowly declining in quality over the years. My favorite dish is the shrimp and crawfish pasta with wine cream sauce which had plenty of shrimp, craw fish and delicious sauce. The last couple of times I've ordered a for pickup, the dish lacks sauce and amount of shrimp and craw fish has been less than before. I picked up the dish again yesterday and had to ask for extra sauce, it was an additional $3 charge. When I got home I noticed large chunks of bacon, something that was not there before or maybe they were quite small that I didn't notice. The flavor was a bit off because of the large chunks of bacon. I found a photo of the dish from 2021 and comparing the same dish to the one yesterday, it's clear the quality and quantity have been declining. To my disappointment it was just a regular Crème brûlée with a orange slice on top. Texture was not firm as it should have been. The melted sugar on top was very thin and almost non existent. Overall my review is this. If you are looking for Louisiana Cuisine in Austin Texas this is not it. Étouffée is a thick roux not a soupy mix. This is the best Cajun spot in town! Being greeted with warm bread and garlic butter when you sit down is amazing and compliments the gumbo (which is a must try). My favorite is the Yoli dish, I get it with redfish but you can try it with any fish you like. It was hard to do but saving room for dessert is essential because the options are all so good! I get the bread pudding but take a key lime pie or blueberry cheesecake to go to enjoy later on. The cozy booths and chandeliers make it a great date night spot, but there were larger families dining in too. We love this place! read more

Moving to the hill country, I've realized there is a shortage of cajun food. I've been dying to satisfy my palate, and French Quarter Grille has been on my radar since I've moved here. I couldn't decide if I wanted the Gumbo or Étouféé, so I got both. NO MISTAKE HERE! Both were AMAZING. The roux is just the way I like it, thicker than soup, but not as viscous as syrup. For both, I ordered Crawfish as my protein. Once again, I can't state it enough AMAZING. I'm not sure if they always do this, but when I got my order, they had already added the rice to the gumbo & étouféé... which absorbs the meal :( I also wasn't a fan of the Crawfish Beignets, as these were more like hushpuppies than beignets. Food: 5 Staff: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Cleanliness: 5 I was lucky enough to have to visit North Austin again, which meant I got to go back to French Quarter Grille. A lot of times a restaurant doesn't live up to an excellent first experience when you return. Not the case here. Misti was my waitress again and she is extremely helpful and pleasant. I let her recommendations guide my choices. That meant going with the basil vinaigrette on my salad. The house salad had pine nuts in it, so mixed with the dressing it was like a thinner, more subtle pesto, and a wonderful starter. For the entree I got the Catfish Ponchartrain because she said it was their number 1 seller. I can see why. The fish was perfectly cooked so that it was fully cooked and flaky but still smooth and moist. The silky flavorful mushroom brandy cream sauce was a bold addition but the spices on the fish held their own. And how can you go wrong putting shrimp, crawfish, and lump blue crab in a sauce over fish? You can't. The Parmesan Tabasco mashed potatoes and the red beans and rice paired wonderfully with the authentically Cajun entree. Although I didn't need it at this point, I did decide to Treat Yo Self to a sweet treat to wrap it up. Choosing between croissant bread pudding, chocolate raspberry Crème Brûlée, Blueberry Cheesecake, Key Lime Pie or several other offerings became difficult, so what should you do? You ask for help. Blueberry cheesecake it was. The cake is firm and creamy, and blue throughout from the addition of I'm guessing blueberry purée to the batter. Top that with a handful of fresh plump blueberries and a blueberry syrup drizzle and you have a pallet cleanser to finish off a fantastic meal. But then they go and put almonds in their scratch made crust just to be extra. Thanks to the kitchen staff for the great food and to Misti for the great recommendations. We came to have dinner here with my parents after they had a wonderful lunch here earlier in the week. It was a rainy afternoon and despite opening at 5pm, when we showed up at 10 'til 6, the wait for a table of 6 was about 30minutes. We decided to wait. The service is very friendly and it feels like you're in a neighborhood where everyone knows or wants to know everyone. However, you're going to pay for that friendliness because everything takes a little bit longer. They are attentive and polite, but now we know why there's always a wait here. The escargot were tender and flavorful, and as a piece of advice, save the amazing hot French bread rolls to dip in the escargot butter rather than the butter that comes with. The fried calamari were tender and the size is quite generous! It was my 3yr old's favorite food of the evening! I ordered the shrimp & crawfish pasta which was very tasty. The portion was generous and I had to take the rest home. My husband ordered the Beef Tenderloin Pontchartrain and although he'll be sticking to our favorite steakhouses for steak, he enjoyed it. Piece of advice to the servers, "When someone orders the beef, bring 'em a steak knife!" My parents ordered the Fish of the Day (Corvina) with crab and the tarragon cream sauce and the Prime Rib Special. The former was the highlight of the two. For dessert, save room for the award-winning and "We're famous for this" orange creme brûlée and croissant bread pudding. Both were really really delicious and a perfect ending to the meal. Bottom line? I can forgive their laissez faire approach to efficient dinner service because they're friendly and pay attention to each diner. Their food is tasty, tender, and well cooked. Their dessert deserves to be highlighted so make sure you get your leftovers to take home so you have room for it! But...
