The bread is fantastic. I prefer the traditional baguettes and the croissants. They taste like you are in France - soft in the inside and crusty on the outside. And super fresh. Reminded me of a pastry shop I experienced in Paris a few months prior, as part of a pastry shop walking tour. Though I needed a snack, I chose to skip the pastries since I had skipped skipped lunch. Very cute shop. I ordered the TM Pesto Cro'gel (A crogel is a croissant shaped like a bagel). I was told that they were out of crogels and would have to make my sandwich with baguette. I asked if they could make it with a croissant instead so that the sandwich could taste the way it's supposed to taste. They up charged me for the sandwich and a croissant, because THEY didn't have the appropriate ingredients. The sandwich looked really good, but wasn't that great. I've tried just about every bakery in the area that's located on Wisconsin Avenue. Fresh Baguette by far has the best croissant ever. It's perfectly made; it's flakey, buttery, and has the most perfect crumb. I buy several at a time and keep them in the freezer so that I always have a croissant whenever I want one. My family used to love going to this place because staff used to be friendly and helpful. Our two recent visit has proven otherwise. This morning I went there around 1115 and though it wasn't crowded the on duty person was very rude and impatient. I wanted the mini pastries along with a few things that I picked up in GT to take to my sons school for a parent student brown bag lunch. I asked for a bag to put the box of pastries in and i asked politely but my request was met with roll eye and "sorry mam' bye!" and poor attitude. I asked to have a varieties of pastries and the person didn't listen to which kind I want to include in our purchase. We have bought goodies from this place many times since it's opening this year but we are sad to say that we would not want to go back to this place again. Very disappointed. Also, they left some of the tongs on the unsanitized counter and the person wears the same gloves to handle pastries and money/ credit card. Very unprofessional! read more

7 star baked goods, 2 star service. After more than 10 visits, I am going to have to stop going here because most of the staff seem caught in Amber they move so slowly! Fingers crossed there is much more training of the staff. If you walk in and no one else is there to be waited on, you are almost guaranteed to have to wait 5 minutes to be asked your order, 5 minutes watching staff mosey over to your selection and 5 minutes watching someone scroll through multiple register pages to ring up your selection. Last visit, after all that, I had to prompt for the tally that had been rung up and my server fell into a stupor by asking "how much do I owe you?" Suggestions: Greet people when they arrive If you have to leave the counter and people are there to be served, tell them you recognize they are there and will be right back. Either simplify the register or better train the staff. Think about more staff. Get some mystery shoppers to assure things are going well. It is not the quality of the product you have to worry about, it is the quality of the service. read more

This morning I went to fresh baguette which just opened not far from my house. I bought a baguette and was very disappointed. The bread is undercooked and has no crust at all , it looks more like a ciabatta the a baguette. I understand that usually American do not like crusty bread but at least some of the baguette should be baked the way it is in Paris. I will keep going to Breadfurst even it is much farther for me. I've heard such good things about their other locations that I had to give them a try on day 1. Their space is nice, bright and clean though perhaps a bit sterile feeling. Super subjective though...so don't let that dissuade you. Walking in I felt welcomed and wasn't rushed to make a decision. For their grand opening they were giving away baguettes which just completely made my day. I ordered three croissants. Total came out to a little over $9, which isn't abnormal for a bakery in D.C. but I just never get used to paying that much for baked goods.
