This is my go to place when I want healthy "fast food". I have to get the same thing each time. A 6 base bowl with sweet potato noodles, coconut ginger rice and kale slaw. The mushrooms and steak (double steak) are a must. I top it off with the marinated tomatoes and holy kale dressing. The bowl is large enough for 2 meals and reheats very well, since they cook their meat to medium. My favorite thing about this chain is they don't use a lot of sodium. This was my first time at a fresh kitchen and I didn't realize this numbered bowl ordering method they have. Because if I did, I would have looked at their website and practiced. I go in, a young girl is waiting on me to order, I tell her I've never been here and she's like do you want the rundown and I'm like yeah! She proceeds to tell me what sounds like football plays with 6 bowls and all the things that come in it and I have never eaten here and I don't know what's on the line so I tell her yall figure it out at the end and I'll pay. In which case she gives her helper on the line a side eye and I go on to pick what I think looks good. At the cashier three people have to chime in for what I actually got because I don't know lol. I don't care, I'm in my 40s and I've had many restaurant concepts that mimic a Chipotle style of ordering and I personally think this is the most confusing of them all. BUT the food is hot and tasty. Would I come back, maybe. There are places like this that might come to mind sooner but if I'm out and about and it's what's available sure. I think, as my first introduction to fk, it was just okay for me but that was mostly the service and less about the food. As someone who works in marketing for the food industry, I don't want to have to learn your system if you aren't the first to do it and if it's not that differentiated from your more well-known competitors, what will keep me coming back? Service, maybe some seasonal changes on the menu and obviously the product should speak for itself. This place is like a blend of Cava meets Chipotle in my opinion. This place is absolutely unreal. We walked in at 11:30. They open at 11 AM. Probably have 13 people working that assembly line ready and prepared for the lunch rush. You would think it would take some patience waiting in line but they work that thing like the damn army. No slow chipotle workers at this joint that's for sure. If it's packed in there by 11:30, you know the food must be good. The staff is so kind and made our experience. It was our first time trying it so they let us taste a little bit of the different meats and oh my gosh, it is insane. The steak and rosemary chicken is to die for and the roasted carrots and mushrooms, basically everything. The Star of the show is that white sauce at the end you need to get it also it's a place that everything is so fresh and they use olive oil instead of seed oils!!! This was my first visit to Fresh Kitchen, mainly because it's close to my house. The concept is similar to CAVA or Bolay, offering healthy, customizable bowls. The staff were friendly, and the environment was pleasant. However, one aspect really disappointed me. I ordered the Six Bowl for $14.25, which included 2 bases, 2 veggies, 2 proteins, and 1 sauce. What I didn't expect was that simple toppings like grape tomatoes, salsa, and cucumber salad came at an extra charge-$0.50, $0.50, and $1 respectively. I paid $1 for just a tiny portion of cucumber salad, which felt unreasonable and not worth the price. At Bolay, which has a similar style and pricing, these kinds of add-ons are typically included at no extra cost (except for avocado). I understand Fresh Kitchen emphasizes fresh, quality ingredients-and that's great-but charging extra for basic toppings feels like a "nickel-and-dime" approach that doesn't sit well with customers. OH MY STARS AND GARTERS! (bonus points if you know whose catch phrase that is) I got the 6 bowl ($10.50) with steak ($2 surcharge) and pico (.50 surcharge) plus tax came to $13.96. This came with : 2 starches (sweet potato noodle/coconut rice) 2 meats (steak/citrus chicken) 2 veggies (parmesan broccoli /mushroom) 1 sauce (Coconut siracha) Pros: The meats were high quality and not the anemic pieces indicative of Chipotle or Moe's. The number of pieces of each were one ladleful, but bigger and juicier. The way they were prepared was great--grilled and with lots of flavor. Outside of poke bowls at my favorite U poke spot, I haven't really felt the other bowl places like the defunct Florida Eats in Seminole Heights or Mahana Fresh were awesome as the one here. The rice had a nice but not overpowering coconut fragrance. The sweet potato noodles were good, but IMO should be hot since most of the other items were hot (except pico). The amount of overall food for the six bowl and quality make the cost worth it. Before I ate, I was admittedly skeptical. There are many indicators/symbols to show which items are vegan, have dairy, gluten which is nice. This is a place that would be good for people of varying food requirements. The furnishings are mostly pink with many pink potted plants which looks tasteful, yet cute. Parking is in a strip mall avoiding the South Tampa curse. The hours are almost uniform and they're open 7 days a week! Cons: Many of the add ons like pico de gallo, almonds are a surcharge of .50 cents or more which seems a bit much. I am unsure if you can get another sauce added and if so, would it have a surcharge? I came on a rainy Sunday evening and the restaurant was bustling.
