Stumbled across this place earlier today while walking around South Seaport area. Everyone really enjoyed their lunch. My speck sandwich with avocado was delicious. Side salad had the perfect amount of dressing on it. Eggplant sandwich, turkey sandwich, and tuna salads were great as well. The staff was very friendly. The only downside was that the food took a little long after ordering. Would definitely recommend. read more

I had been meaning to try this place for a long time & finally came in on my lunch break back in November. The place is really tiny but when I got there early around 12:00 p.m. I was seated right away. However, not surprisingly, midway through my meal the place had essentially filled up. The service was friendly & efficient, which is nice and appreciated when you have limited time on your lunch break. I had the pepper turkey sandwich which was delicious and a can of beer. I also noticed some good happy hour specials advertised on the board outside. I would love to come back to try this place for brunch or happy hour and see if the quality of food/service holds up. read more

used to like going here for brunch but after stopping by on Sunday and waiting over half an hour to be sat, just to be told that we couldn't have the table by the same person who told us 10min, 5min then "I'm sorry we have someone else to sit here" I'm a bit salty about going back or referring anyone else to. Sidewalk has a few tables which where we chose to sit. Bartender came outside and took our orders, brought our food. Good find away from the tourist area at South Street Seaport. A little gem tucked away on Beekman. It's pretty low frills, usually only one bartender who's iPhone is the DJ and no dedicated wait service. You literally feel like you've been transported to Brooklyn, not the tourist ravaged seaport, the place has a great vibe. There's a few outdoor seats and all the food is tasty. Came in for lunch on a weekday with my boyfriend. We got the Italian and the Roast Beef Sandwiches. Everything was great. You can really tell that they use fresh, quality ingredients. The bread they used was perfect too - not too crusty or hard, didn't get in the way of all the meat. It was actually really delicious (I LOVE bread). Portions and prices are reasonable too. Plus, you get a choice of chips or salad with your sandwich. The chips come in many flavors. I got the jalapeno - they had just the right amount of spice. Me and my girlfriend came to brunch. It was quite crowded and cold. There was a table available by the door, but luckily the waitress told us just to wait 3 minutes she will have a table for us as some customers were leaving. Got the table and ordered the steak and eggs, pancakes and bacon, and mimosa for us both. The steak and eggs hit the spot, medium like I asked, (;0) The pancakes were fluffy and sweet, bacon was savory and crunchy. Good times. This place was so disappointing. My boyfriend and I live in the neighborhood and we were looking forward to trying this place considering it seemed highly rated on yelp. However, when we got there and started eating we realized we wished we didn't end up wasting out time with this place. First, the decor was a bit odd but we figured it was just their way of trying to be different, but what was disturbing was that there was a layer of dust and dirt on the blinds... Now the only reason why I bring this up is because I was sitting right next to it and couldn't help but thinking if their blinds are this dirty, what does the kitchen look like =/ Yes, we could've sat somewhere else, but the point it is clean the restaurant so patrons aren't breathing that in and/or that's not going in the food. Then, we ordered drinks which were lack luster and way over priced for the size of the glass the drink was served in. We ordered the hummus plate (which was the only good thing about this place, but not enough for us to go back or to recommend this place to anyone), the mac and cheese, pita melt & the meatloaf.... Sad to say that all of the dishes had no flavor and were lack luster. The pita melt had barley any pesto, the mac and cheese looked like it was sitting under a heat lamp or microwaved to the point that the pasta was hard, and worse of all my boyfriends meatloaf sandwich was so dry and taste less that looking at it reminded me of cat food from a can... Needless to say I'm completely perplexed as to how this place has such high reviews, but I know that we will not be back and we don't recommend this place to anyone who wants to check out the seaport. There are better restaurants in the area with much nicer food. read more

Fresh Salt is a cute spot but damn, the service is never good. We waited 40(!) minutes for our food on Sunday during brunch. 40+ minutes for a quiche to be warmed up and them to put together a sandwich that requires no cooking. We eventually just got up and left since they hadn't even started preparing the food, and the waitress had the audacity to make us pay for two sodas. Just too many good options downtown to deal with that ratchet mess. So...Go...but only if you have 2-3 hours to kill and some snacks in your bag. read more

Hidden in the murky depths of lower Manhattan, Fresh Salt is a surprisingly charming breath of fresh air (pun intended). I went on a Sunday night, since I know the bartender that night and intended on staying no later than midnight, but the revolving door of fascinating characters kept me there 'till closing. A group of men and women came in and their "leader" showed us his hat made by a blind hat maker from India. Two bartenders from a bar in the area came to discuss the politics or marijuana, A lovely young jewelry maker discussed the fashion biz with me. There was also a dog who was a dead ringer for a mop there who seemed drawn to a certain chair in the bar. Although the bar was never crowded, there were always a few good people there to share a drink and a laugh. My friend made me her specialty drink, apple juice, vodka and cinnamon - DELISH! The wooded decor gives it an extremely homey and woodsy charm. I can only imagine how lovely it is during the summers when there are tables set up outside. The neighborhood is not too conducive to street traffic, but it seems that Fresh Salt has found customers nonetheless. I agree with Katie N. on this one, I give Fresh Salt five stars because of what it is, an unpretentious neighborhood dwelling spot with character, not for what its not (an annoyingly crowded tongue in cheek joint that appeals only to trendy downtowners). I came here with great expectations about the place. However, it wasn't the case. I came here with several colleagues of mine. The bartender noticed us, but didn't say anything at first - I'm guessing he was assuming that we were still figuring out our orders. When the time came, he put on this sarcastic mood as he took our order. I asked for a vodka tonic and instantly he said, "a bottle of tonic? I don't have that." Okay, so that was pretty funny, but his attitude was consistent t throughout. My coworker tried ordering a jack and coke, but they don't carry Jack Daniels. He proceeded to order Jameson, which they don't carry either and then took the menu, pointed at it and said, "this is what we have on the menu." Note taken - I don't recommend anyone to come here to waste their time. Even though the atmosphere is GREAT, customer service is always important. I suggest you go somewhere else, especially if you have a large group tagging along with you. I would like to come back here to try out their food, but honestly, from my experience, I'll just plan to go somewhere else. read more

Tucked away in a quiet part of the seaport area is this wonderful bar. Happy hour runs from 4 -8, well drinks and drafts are $4. After 4, I think there is no more waiter service so you'll have to go to the bar if you want to order food as well. The place is small so that is not an issue. For the price, this is one of the better happy hour deals in the area. The space is a decent size, better for smaller groups and if the weather is nice and there are tables available outside, I highly recommend sitting there. The food was also pretty good. I got the pork sandwich, which was a decent size and comes with chips. The pork was nice and tender and the bread held up really well, which is all I really ask for in a sandwich. There is a limited draft only about 3 beers to choose from but there is a full bar. The menu is also pretty limited but since I enjoyed my sandwich I'm open to trying the other things they offer. After being to the other bars near by job, this one definitely is one of the better ones. I will definitely be back here for happy hour. read more

I've lived in this area for almost 10 years and I've grown totally sick of the seafood places that are just swarming on every corner here. When these guys opened up, I was amazed that they didn't jump on the seafood bandwagon. Finally I thought, a place where I can get some turf without the surf. The first time I was here I thought the food was awesome, and now years later it still is. The meatloaf sandwich is a really good choice if you're looking to be filled up for half the day, the meatloaf itself tastes delectable with its tender goodness. I'm glad these guys push for quality with their food, but the service has been a little shoddy over the years and it hasn't improved. The service however does NOT make this a bad bar, it's by all means worth trying whether you're from this area or more afar. read more

Generally speaking I really love this place. I have been going there for years, on and off, alone and with friends and have always had a great experience. Tonight, however, was one of the worst experiences I have ever had at any restaurant. I was basically threatened with physical assault by one staff person (male) and told it was ok by the supposed manager (female) because I had problems with my order. I really like this place but cannot believe that this is what the owners/management want in their staff. Great place but unfortunately reprehensible staff tonight.
