It's a unique shop with goods from England. There's not many stores that carry the items this store does.

The Friar Tuck Shoppe is next to the Robin Hood Pub.

Those of us who like fruit cake know one of the very few places fruit cake can be found all year long is in British shops. Went to the Friar Tuck Shoppe today for the first time to see if they had fruit cake. They had an extensive selection of fruit cakes. Bought a fruit cake today and will go back the next time I want to get a fruit cake. The Friar Tuck Shoppe gets extra points for having the best name of any British shop. In the British English speaking world, a tuck shop is a shop that sells food. The Friar Tuck Shoppe sells food and it is next to the Robin Hood Pub.

$7.50 but you can't get these at Ralph's!

So many different kinds of pastas (imported) , olives , pickles , tinned fish, etc. way too much to list here, prices seemed reasonable on most items and some items were out of my budget, I just went over the weekend for the first time so haven't tried too much of what I got yet* but can't wait to try it all! There is such a selection of very unique items , some with such amazing packaging/ art , so this place would be a great place if anyone is looking for a gift/gifts!

Upon entering there are shopping carts and baskets. Take a rolling one (trust me) and get ready for a wonderful store filled with food stuffs that will make you swoon. The neatly stacked shelves are filled with things like chocolate, jam, pasta, tinned seafood, chips, and pasta are all neatly organized. Tags indicating country of origin (largely from Europe) are helpful. There are refrigerators full of charcuterie, cheese, and French butter. Freezers have ready to bake breads and pastries from a bakery in Canada. It's actually quite overwhelming (in a very good way), if you don't know what you need. You'll definitely see lots of things you want. The people that work here seem happy and are very helpful. When we were looking at chips, one of the employees shared his favorites. The best part of the visit was meeting the owner. He was enthusiastic and extremely informative! He told us that everything in the store was sampled and scrutinized for taste and quality. He knew everything about the products and why they were sourced. He helped me find a delicious arbequina olive oil from Italy and tins of sardines packed it butter. Swoon. By the end of our visit my basket was full! While the items here are pricey I truly think that the quality is worth it. Parking is plentiful and conveniently located just outside. The store is clean and well organized. Bring your own reusable shopping bags because you'll need it for all the wonderful goodies. Definitely returning! One of the most popular thrift stores in the Valley - actually, the most popular and it is…read morefantastic - resides in a old Circuit City building near the intersections of Victory and Woodman. You absolutely can not overlook the famous red tower façade. To the left of this, sits a small shopping strip and in this shopping strip: you will see Monte Market. The signage font looks like it employed the same branding graphic designer as whomever is behind retailers REI or Patagonia, complete with mountain images; but this is no sporting goods store pampering the hiking and granola crowd. Rather, Monte Market is an ethnic market (predominately Armenian, Russian-Armenian) and being European (100% Hungarian) means that I ADORE ethnic stores and therefore I made a beeline for the Monte Market entrance like a moth to a flame. Monte Market is a relatively small space but they fit a large variety of goods into the square footage. You will find everything from dried fruits, nuts, candies/chocolates, teas, beverages, cookies, fruit syrups for seltzers (us Hungarians love these) lavash breads, and other dried goods; to fresh produce, refrigerated items and a deli and meat counter. You can find a little bit of everything at Monte Market on your list plus can order meats for your events (or just your dinner). The great thing about Monte Market is that in typical ethnic market fashion, you will find imported goodies that you don't see in our standard grocery stores even if from brands we are used to for example: Oreo and Twix cookies we don't have at Ralphs, tea inside matroyshka nesting dolls, etc. Also favorably, I've found that items tend to be expired at ethnic stores and covered in a layer of dust but that didn't seem to be the case at Monte Market. Another highlight of Monte Market? I was expecting crazy, overpriced items due to imports and being a specialty market and I was happily surprised to find that prices were VERY fair and even less than prices at a Ralphs! Even eggs which are in hot demand at the time of this review were cheaper than most other stores including Walmart. Very impressive, Monte Market! My only complaint with Monte Market is that I felt very out of place. Everyone from the employees to other customers were starting at me. Did they know I'm not Armenian? Was it because I was dressed up in a sexy outfit and heels? Even the girl behind the register whom I tried to start small talk with cause were were both wearing  cropped black leather jackets; asked if I needed help in a way that was obvious she thought I was trying to steal or be shady. Relax honey, I'm not stealing ethnic foods and simply browsing. Other than that slight hiccup; Monte Market is quite nice with a desirable selection of goods that is much better than the other Armenian markets in the adjacent area (which, for the record, also always give me weird looks as well so maybe it is because I'm not Armenian. Meh).  I suggest Monte Market up their customer service game. Despite this, I still recommend this market for your Middle Eastern goodies or to browse after your thrift store adventure.

I absolutely in love with all Armenian food. The only problem they had is inconsistently of salads taste. Sometimes it's good, or hot it supposed to be, but sometimes absolutely wrong. I hope they fix it)) It's not a big deal for people who know the recipe. Oh! And the bakery section is delicious. Hope, it's gonna grow as well! I know it's all coming for "big brother " shop, and the selection there is much more.

We first kind of did an overview of the whole place, checking out the bakery, the kitchen (wonderful aromas) produce, and then the canned and jarred goods. Then I worked up my courage at the kitchen and asked the guy if he could help me, because I had no idea what I was looking at, but it all looked and smelled amazing! He was so sweet and after asking, if we were vegetarians, which we weren't, he then gave us samples of two of the most popular dishes. These were both stews and had such a complexity of flavor. One is with ground walnuts, and pomegranate juice and small little meatballs, and the other was this amazing mix of herbs and greens and fava beans, which I might not normally choose, but tasted great! We ended up getting containers of those and then tried a couple different types of the rice. One had dill and other herbs in it, while the other one seemed to have lentils and maybe raisins? Once again, so good. We also got a quarter chicken and he packed them all up. It comes with this wonderful yogurt, herbed condiment. Our only mistake was not also picking up some flatbread to go with it. I picked up a chopped cucumber and tomato salad, and it's great because they have the dressing separated inside the container so it doesn't get soggy. Yes, like most places in Encino parking is going to be interesting! Their parking is directly in front of their entrance and at first it didn't look like there was anything, but then we realize there actually was. I found everybody friendly, even had some very lovely woman recommend some of the nuts and seeds to us. Speaking of which they have an enormous selection of both. I had no idea there were so many different types of sunflower seeds to name just one of the selections. In retrospect, I should've gotten some cookies! We will definitely be back, I would think it would be a great place to stock up and treat friends to an interesting set of new tastes. If you're vegetarian, they have an enormous selection as well.

The produce and fruit prices here is unbeatable. They always have variety of things on sale specially their top sellers. Let's say cucumbers cost over $2.50 a pound in other markets and here it's almost always 99c a pound. Today I was surprised to see a 10 lbs bag of potatoes for $1.29 now that's crazy. Even though I don't buy non organic potatoes it's a great price for people that do. Apples 79c peaches 1.29 a pound which I stocked up on to freeze once they are ripe. I got bags of cherries for $1.29 a pound. Sweet and juicy cherries. I especially love the bulk section of dried fruits and nuts here. I always buy the dried fruits that are imported from Armenia such as sour plum, peach, apricots, pears and more. Love it They carry a wide selection of imported rice, legumes, pastas, olives etc.... Two isles of bread from pita to lavash to tortillas to ciabatta and more. The deli is amazing but I'm not crazy about the meat department. Customer service is average for a supermarket and finding parking here is always challenging. Overall a great place to shop for food specially for large families that want to save a bit of money.

I was faced with this Rude employee named Martin who tells me flat out that the employees of the store or at least Martin is not about Customer Service or the customers needs. Earlier I had walked by the tangerine booth. I saw that the bin was empty. I went over to Martin and ask him where are the tangerines located he pointed where they were. I looked over and I said the bin was empty and if they can fill it. Non-responsibly he struck his shoulders so I walked over to produce Manager and asked can they bring out fresh tangerines since the bin was empty. He said fine in 10 minutes. I continued with my shopping and 20 minutes later I came in and the bin was still empty so I went over to Martin and as I couldn't find the produce manager, I asked can they fill the bin he says when I get around to it so I walked over, found the produce manager, and I asked for the tangerines to be filled. The produces Manager went and ask Martin to do that. exactly 2 minutes later he walks up to the tangerine bin and tells me why did you go and asked the mgr for Tangerines? I told you I will get to it when I get to it. I told him that I had a doctors appointment that I've been waiting for 20 minutes and I'd like to finish my shopping to which he responded well we don't work around the customers schedule we work whenever we want to. This has left such a bad taste in my mouth and so contrary to my experience in Northridge. I hope the store manger pays attention to Martin and his lack of customer service attitude.
