First off the fact that they text you and still have you wait almost two hours defeats the purpose of telling someone that they are first or second in line. Secondly when we checked in they move the suits on to the rack and then they are called. We came and checked in and waited over an hour. I asked the lady how much longer and they didn't even have my son's suit on the rack for him to try on. That means that they didn't even check him in properly. Had I not asked we would have still been waiting hours after receiving a text and checking in with the person at the desk. This is terrible customer service. Not only that but as terrible as it sound COVID is still present, but yet they have everyone waiting in side. It cannot he safe to have easily 40+ people in such a small space with no masks. And yes I understand that people can wait outside however since people have to wait after they are closed people have no choice but to wait inside. Along with that when they call someone's name to have them try on the suit they don't even go outside to have them come in they just say it and thats all. This is a terrible business practice and they need to work on their organization of trying on items. Again I understand that this is prom season and people need suits and it is a busy time, but this store and company should anticipate this season and HIRE MORE STAFF! To have been fitted, and even jacket with incorrect colour, missing belt reordered to for next day, to come back to pick up the items and being told to wait in line with everyone else for 1 hr 30 mins, is very disorganised. Courtesy advise: Have someone ready to handle items that are ready for pick up to minimise amount of people in the store. I will not recommend this store to anyone. First, I was told over the phone I did not need an appointment for a fitting. Upon arrival, I was told they were unable to see me that day since they were understaffed. I came from Marina Del Rey, which is about an hour round trip minimum. I made an appointment for next time, only to arrive and find myself in a line of four because apparently they schedule simultaneous appointments. Lastly, I was told to come pick up my suit the Wednesday before the wedding after 4 pm. I called days before and asked if I could potentially come earlier because traffic on the 405 south at that time is horrendous. They then said I couldn't because they wouldn't have all the items ready earlier in the day. I arrive to the store at 4:30 only to find a line of about, no joke, 30 people. Apparently they tell everyone to come at the same time because of their item turnover and run a logistical nightmare that just creates a huge bottleneck. I've been here 45 min just waiting to pick up my suit. I will never be coming back to this store or any Friar Tux and urge any customers to do the same and save yourself the hassle. Never going to another tux shop again!!! Reggie was an amazing help. I would come back to this location in particular just to get serviced by reggie again. I came in to find a tux for my son who was asked very last minute to go to a formal ball. I was very nervous because I know nothing about suits and after a whole week of looking around I was finally put at ease after walking in. reggie took the lead and he even made the experience fun !!!!! My son went looking amazing and reggie even pushed him out of his comfort zone with the colors he proposed but they looked so well on him! And my son has never looked so confident. I brought my son here to get fitted for Senior prom & it was nothing but prompt, professional & courteous service. Delores knew exactly what she was doing & guided my son in his decisions on style & color. When we returned for the final fitting we were assisted upon arrival by Shanti. My son waited too long to choose the color of tie & pocket square & thought we might be out of luck. Dennis aka D-Train is the man! I was so frazzled in the days before my wedding I was picking up my suit and had no idea tie colors or if I wanted a bow tie or a regular tie. Presentation is everything! Got married in October 2013 and searched high and low for a very particular tuxedo. My husband wanted the cutaway morning jacket with pinstriped pants. Without disclosing any names of other stores I want to tell you that Friar was the only place that could handle our order. They gave us an appointment and took care of us from beginning to end. 1. They treated us with respect, they were organized, and courteous. 2. They had many different sizes and styles for my husband to try on. 3. They had actual samples of what we chose on the catalogue. 4. They made a virtual account with every groomsmen name that showed who was fitted and their balance. This made things easy to keep track of. 5. Our bridal party mostly came form the East Coast and Friar made it easy to get fitted out there without any hassle. Friar is a member of the SAVVY mens formal wear which means that they can take measurements for people out of state that are equally accurate and true to any other business who is part of their SAVVY group and vice versa. Two days before the wedding we picked up the suits and everything was perfectly organized shoes and all. I can go on and on about how perfect the service was, but I will let my pictures speak for their selves. The service at this location is a joke. This type of business is obviously popular for special events and you would think they would be welcoming, encouraging or at least polite. The people who work here are incapable of proper customer service. We had nothing but a hard time and I don't understand what is so difficult about taking a measurement??? How is it that 6 suits are incorrect ! And not only were the sizes WAY off but this was during the week of the wedding. The guys were picking up their suit the day before the wedding and one had to go back twice AND THEY DIDN'T EVEN PROVIDE THE GROOM WITH A POCKET SQUARE!!!!! We only went here because our venue provided a discount to this place and they didn't even honor it. We tried to meet the requirements for it and they didn't work with us, they were unbelievably rude. You're better off making your own suit than trusting them cause they're incompetent of measuring. We will never go here again, the price is not worth it and we will make sure that this wedding venue will remove them from their vendor list. read more

I received a last minute invitation to a formal event at USC. Without a great deal of time to shop, I decided to stop in after visiting another nearby competing store. This location isn't the biggest; however they have a nice variety of accessories at reasonable prices. Customer service was excellent. I purchased a bowtie and other accessories for the formal event and was not disappointed. There is plenty of parking. It is conveniently located on Pacific Coast Highway. At the time of fitting, i requested to have the pants be adjustable. That was the only thing i needed for the tux. I had already mentioned that i wouldnt be able to try a final fitting so i was glad to have gotten measured that day and that i would just be picking it up. The first guy who assisted in the initial fitting already made me feel uncomfortable due to me being an obese guy. I have NEVER felt disrespected like that in my life. Obviously he wasnt paying attention to my request, maybe because i was obese or the fact that i didnt look like a rich fancy looking white person (because the other customers that were in there with me were white and getting 5 star service. All they were missing was maybe a glass of wine to go along with their fitting. I know you have a diverse staff, but treatment between me and the other customers was quite obvious. [If not rwcially profiling, then maybe the staff discriminates against fat people.]) The best man ended up getting adjustable pants and he explained to me he didnt request it for his tux. Seems like someone added the adjustable pants to the wrong person. So he didnt pay attention to my name, my request, or anything. On the day of pick up, the lady who gave me my tux explained to me that everything was there, she even took a look at the tags and said yes everything i requested was in order... low and behold, my pants wasnt adjustable, my collared shirt was basically fitted barely below my waist line which made it difficult to tuck in. So now on the wedding day, my pants is falling and my shirt keeps getting untucked. Thats already two staff members who obviously dont care about customer service. Now on drop off, i found it funny that the guy who collected my tux asked "so how was your event?" And then interrupt me during my explaination by saying "mmhmm, ohhhhh!". Seriously, if you dont give a sh*t, do not ask the f*cking question. If this is how your staff treats people based off looks, then please put a big sign on your door telling customers they need to walk in looking as preppy and as fit as possible to get good service. You know, it speaks volumes when a Girl from Orange County makes a trip out to Torrance to rent a suit! The wedding is 3 weeks away, THREE WEEKS AWAY - and my boyfriend had procrastinated to get a suit for his sister's wedding on April 19th. Leave it to "Super-Girlfriend" to make sure that he has one in time. I did a mad search for tux rentals online - I stumbled upon the Friar Tux Shop in an online ad and found that they had a location by the BF's parent's house. We made a reservation, (recommended), to have a consultation regarding the rental. It's a decent sized establishment in a very busy plaza; never fear, tons of parking appear. The appointment was at 1:00pm and we came about 15 minutes early and they still conveniently accommodated us. Friar's Tux shop is upfront about their prices, which I find extremely fair. It's not like they have a bunch of suits displayed and tell you that it's $150 to rent one day and the next day the same suit is $200. All the prices are clearly labeled. As expected, the necessary items are included with the price: Coat, Pants, Vest (if applicable) Button-Up and Cufflinks - and strategically the tux shop has the ties/bow ties to match for an added price. What I really loved about the place was the professionalism of the attendees and the efficiency of it all! Not only that, but they have the up to date styles for today's dapper gentleman. The boyfriend only does the SLIM FIT tailored look, and thank goodness it was available for half their collection. We were out and done in less than half an hour, the suit will be ready for fitting and pick up, 2 days before the wedding. Nice! "Super Girlfriend" has come to the rescue again! read more

I visited this store yesterday (Sunday) to buy a new tuxedo jacket for my son. What an incredibly disappointing experience. The customer service provided by Reggie was terrible. He was rude, impatient, and unhelpful. I heard him complaining that his friends were going to brunch but he couldn't go. Clearly Reggie was not interested in being at work that day. If my son's school didn't require us to purchase tuxedos from this store, I would have left and gone elsewhere for our needs. In the end, we left with a wrinkled tuxedo jacket that Reggie was unable to properly iron/press. My son desperately needed the jacket so I bought it as is. I plan to take it to my dry cleaner to get it properly pressed. I will say that our first visit to the store 1.5 years ago to get my son's first tuxedo for school was a much more pleasant experience. Clearly, this store's customer service has declined since then. I can see from other reviews on here that I am not the only one who has had a poor experience at this store recently. Hopefully the store manager will take these complaints seriously and address these issues. read more

My son & I waited over an hour for a tuxedo pick up!! There were no dressing rooms available to try it on. If we waited for a dressing room, we would have been there another hour or more. I'd give it a zero if I could. Ten suits ordered and all were wrong. They clearly just ,pretended to measure something. Had to return 3 times before they got it right. They have zero inventory in Torrance and say, 'come back tomorrow at 4' after they shuttle sizes from the OC local. We asked, 'Is this normal?' and they said it was for them. Literally they have no skill set or remorse for the inconvenience they cause people. On another occasion my friend had to go back 4 times. If you still choose to do business with them, make sure to add more time to your schedule and money to your gas tank. Otherwise, go some where other than their Torrance locatio. read more

Easy to work with when your wedding party is spread out across the country -- just have people in states without a shop upload their sizes online and the tuxes will be ready for them. She was patient and was helpful to provide me with all of the options their location has to offer. I personally do not own a suit, so I went to the rental route. I was a plus one at a wedding this past weekend. So I kept it simple and rented a black and white suit without the vest (saves you $15) and only paid $125 for everything (I had my own shoes too!) Nonetheless, I was highly satisfied with the ease of renting versus buying a suit since I rarely go to weddings or important events that require dressing up. read more
