No questions asked, I was able to get another scoop of ice cream that I loved! I got the Pumpkin Cake ice cream as the replacement and it was so yummy! Well, after visiting Frite & Scoop in Astoria, you''ll believe that these two are a match made in heaven. It's such a simple concept done really, really well. I appreciate that this shop gives their flavor list and then recommendations for additional toppings/bowls/sundaes from their staff on the wall. It helps to try and find the perfect combo! I also gotta give props for the fact that they use metal spoons for tastes of the different ice cream flavors. No more wasting plastic spoons! The sign caught my attention walking by. It was cold and pouring rain but I can't resist good ice cream, especially when I can get fries with it (best combo ever)! There's a seating area inside the building between this place and another business. It's fairly chill and you get a little bit of a view. The shop itself is very cute. They have some awesome flavors as well! I can't remember which one I had but I think it was strawberry with Oreos in it. Sooo yummy! I also had the mint chocolate chip. It's my favorite flavor and here they use fresh mint so it tastes more natural. I liked it but recommend trying it first as I can't imagine everyone would like it. Delicious! Truly unique flavors of ice cream. The frites (fries) are not my memory of Belgium/ Dutch fries. Closer to steak fry thickness versus shoestring size Belgium fry style in NYC. This ice cream is the last ice cream you'll want to eat. Frite and Scoop is the NASA of ice cream. They have scientifically engineered the best tasting ice cream around. My go to is Hokey Pokey flavor with a krumkake. The flavor explosion will knock you off your feet. I have tried other flavors which I found very tasteful but always go back to Hokey Pokey. This place is a hole in a wall in Astoria. My friends and I were in Portland for a few days and decided to visit Astoria as well (~50mins) away. We were craving for ice cream and we saw Frite &Scoop, the only dessert place that was still opened on a Sunday evening. They have variety of flavors but not as many as the ice cream place in LA, CA. I chose the single scoop classic custard flavor in a sugar. It was really good and refreshing however, it was a bit too sweet for me. I'm not a huge fan of ice cream but I do eat it occasionally. I didn't end up everything so my boyfriend had to finish it for me. I also found it a bit pricey, single scoop for $3.50 and double scoop for $7. Not recommended for you if you are vegan or don't eat dairy. They have the token vegan flavor but it was just okay. The vegan flavor is just soft serve style, so nothing to write home about. Lame they don't make a true ice cream like all the other flavors, but choose the soft serve style for vegans. Also bummer that their waffle cones aren't vegan, because the cheap cones they had with the soft serve had to be eaten QUICK - it started to get soggy very fast and was dripping through the bottom of the cone almost immediately. I wouldn't go back, personally, but if I was with a group who absolutely wanted to go, it's nice they at least offer something I could get that was dairy free. read more

Quite the unexpected surprise coming here. Reviews were right in though that this place is great. Staff welcomed us warmly and with smiles. Wife had Milky Way Sunday and she said it was "awesome, so yum". Kiddo had mini scoops of Mint and Milky Way. She was shocked that the mint was actually real mint. I had the chocolate chip ripple and was in flavor happy land. Topping of gram cracker crumbles were not too soft and coated just right to compliment. The "frites" (chips) was a really cool addition. We came through Astoria via cruise ship and loved exploring this little town! This place is adorable!! I spoke with a man that I assume is the owner, as he talked about the process of making the ice cream himself. He gave me a sample of the Orange and told me that he used juice from oranges he squeezed himself - no orange juice from concentrate for them! And for the Brown Butter Pecan he browns an entire pound of butter and swirls it into his original custard. I chose to get two scoops - one of Strawberry Oreo and one of Hokey Pokey. Everything made from scratch except the Oreos they use. On the water. Amazing ice cream. How awesome is that? I'm glad that little shops like this are on the coast. It's such a nice departure from fast food joints that seem to be everywhere. I tried the licorice (yummy), the peppermint fudge (yummy) & probably the best Rocky Road of all time. My sister in law went with me and also loved it. They did a split pint for us to take back for my mother in law. I'm not aware of any other shop that allows split pints, so that's a huge bonus! I loved that the ice cream here isn't too sweet. They also carry some rare sodas including my sil's favorite O-So butterbeer which is IMPOSSIBLE to find. Wow. My daughter and I were in Astoria this past weekend and were craving ice cream and stopped here. The flavor choices were fabulous. Very unique. We finally decided on orange with chocolate chips. We came here on a Tuesday afternoon. They're usually closed on Tuesdays but they were closed the past Monday for a holiday. During the winter season, they're closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays. In the summer, they're open every day. I was able to try a couple of flavors but I really liked the lemon pie (lemon with graham cracker crumbs) and blueberry fog (blueberry jam, earl grey). The lady was very nice and let me split two different flavors in a single scoop. The lemon pie flavor was refreshing and there were a lot of crunchy pie crust crumbs for texture. The blueberry fog was not too sweet even though there was a lot of blueberry jam and you could actual taste the earl grey flavor. My friends ordered the Belgian fries so I was able to try them as well. The fries were crispy, seasoned, and hot. You can get different sauces and I really liked the chipotle mayo.
