All time favorite place to get bossam (steamed pork) and jokbal (pig feet). Steamed port with the washed kitchen is just the perfect combo! Their sprouts and fish is also so delicious. Seating is a bit limited but they do have a small private room which is nice to separate your party from the rest. Parking is limited. They have som in the front and the back. Back parking is stacked so you may need to move your car if you stay long. Food comes out fast so you won't wait long. Staff is nice, sometimes a little sassy but it's funny!

Dinner in Honolulu, Hawaii... A couple of weeks ago, I read Suri's review. It reminded me that I had never been to this OG restaurant - even though I pass by often. It's been around for a very long time and... It does not serve frog. The worst thing about Frog House is the parking. I circled around the block and decided to partially jump the curb and park in the front of the building. There is parking in the back, but it was crowded, tight, and tandem-style. Inside, when you enter the front door, you'll think that it's not a dine-in place - since there's staff eating right there while sitting at tables and chairs. I had to ask if this was a takeout only place. No, the staff are just taking their meal break in the first room. There are two more rooms for customers to dine-in. The menu looks authentic. I ordered the kalbi plate. It came on a sizzling platter with six types of banchan (side dishes) and a bowl of white rice. The kimchi was spicy and had that fermented flavor. The kalbi was tender, tasty, and fresh! Service was efficient and friendly. The owner (I think she is) offered us more kimchi, which we accepted a couple of times. I don't think we'll be back because of the parking. I asked the spa next door if I could park there, eat something quickly, and come for a massage. The lady opened the curtained, locked door, and replied, "No... men only!" I'm sure glad that our curiosity was cured!

Leaping into some Korean food... As my curiosity has always been there countlessly driving past this long standing place located on the busiest part of Kalākaua Ave and tonight finally here we go. We all notice that there are a few stall right in front of the restaurants though each are designated labeled and reserved leaving you basically nothing or if you decide to risk your car to park precariously especially if you're trying to reverse out while pedestrians walking by and traffic speeding pass without a care how long you've been waiting to find that gap to leave. That seemingly front door though is used by many as well apparently kinda isn't as there's a bunch of miscellaneous stuff with staff taking breaks and lounging is their back service area while the main entrance is in the back as we do see many regulars enter though there did confuse us but they were nice and friendly and got our seating immediately. Looking over their menu they seem to have more the meats and soup with a little bit of seafood and feeling too adventurous I got the combination plate which consists of Kalbi, Chicken and Bulgogi all and here comes the banchan lovely variety though it was the Kimchi that was the start imo it was sour and not too spicy it had all the right umami and was happy they replenished it for us a couple of times. The meat came out on a sizzling platter which is a nice presentation and there was a lot possible because I was eating a lot of banchan but couldn't finish it...sigh! Lovely place with delicious food thought the parking situation was the deal breaker for me...would I return again...probably not as I parked down the street along side Don Quijote and as we asked for more kimchi the staff looked puzzled even telling us "I thought you were done"...omg and gave us just a couple pieces...I felt offended...leap over. Thank you!

Tried this place after seeing it here for years!! I have been craving for gamjatang (pork neck bone and potato soup) and nowhere have I found anything decent. I used to eat it at a little hole in the wall behind Walmart in town, but hence they closed down to build another building that houses other eateries, pastry shop, hair salons, etc. After searching for it forever I found this little hole in the wall (I absolutely love hole in the wall places) and felt its vibe from the parking lot. The parking lot is a mess. The business owners fighting for parking in the front and there is nothing or no sign written you can't park there. The back parking lot isn't easier and it's tandem parking so if you're eating and someone is trying to leave you must move your car. Hahaha incredible. Anyhow, got there when they first opened and ordered the soup. I was asked if I wanted small or large and I said the $30 which looked huge in pics. I always see then if I like the place will come back for more The business gave water in a jug so you don't always have to bother the server/owner (smart) and we ordered one extra bowl of rice. The pot came out both 15 minutes later with banchan (side vegetables dishes) and it looked traditionally great. I think I missed perilla leaves that usually give it such a nice flavor. This is the only complaint I would have. We got three pieces of neck bone (not much meat on them) but the flavor of the broth is what was delicious. I ate potato, some meat, banchan and I'm good. I'm not a big eater so this is good enough. However next time I will get other dishes. It seems like I went to someone's house and their mother cooked for me. This is the feeling I love when I eat at hole in the wall places. Service was excellent and the place had about 7 tables. Not that spacious but you eat and go. If the food is good, people will return. Since they have been here for ages, it shows its worth. I will return for sure to try other plates

Food is amazing! Parking is terrible! Hope in the wall type of place lol. Still give it a 5 stars because food is damn good lol Our go to order is a beef and octopus stew that can serve 2 people comfortably w/leftovers. We also order their seafood pancakes. They make it so crispy but never burnt.

I got to try the Short-Rib Soup today for $15.95 and it was definitely a WOW! The soup was very good and they gave so much of side dishes and they all tasted so good. The service was very friendly and efficient. This place is a gem.

This is truly a "hole in the wall" kind of place! I have always passed here but never stopped in. We went for my daughter's bday at her request & I have to say, THE KAL BI WAS AMAZING. The meat was tender & tasty! We also ordered Fish Jun (which was also amazing), Meat Jun, BBQ Chicken, Man Doo Soup, Green Onion Pancake & the Steamed Eggs. Everything was tasty but I admit, I was not too into the sides. Just not my thing. Service was friendly & fast, ambiance was "homey" & we were actually the only party there so we were very relaxed.

Frog house is my favorite Korean restaurant to get authentic Gamjatang on island! They have happy hour daily until 7pm when you can order smaller portions of dishes like pigs feet, steamed egg, pancakes and well priced soju. When I have cravings for a hearty Korean meal like the ones I've had in Korea, I go to frog house!

If you're looking for authentic Korean food, this is the place to eat! The food is absolutely delicious, and the side dishes are amazing. Don't get confused when you walk in--don't turn away! Just take a seat and enjoy, because the food here is truly worth it.

We've been back here several times, mostly to order takeout. Today we decided to eat in. My wife ordered the Black Goat Pot Stew and I, the Oyster Jeon. I tried some of my wife's dish and liked it, with its tender meat in the savory broth. I've had oyster jeon at other places before, but theirs was different, with chopped vegetables mixed into the batter. It was delicious dipped in the sauce. We both thought the jeon was especially good because it was still hot. It would have been different had we ordered takeout. https://www.facebook.com/groups/bestofkoreainhawaii/permalink/941993243654752/

I have so many great things to say about Frog House but to put it into o just a few: MOST AUTHENTIC DELICIOUS KOREAN RESTAURANT IN HONOLULU! Let me start with the banchan (side dishes). Frog House hands down has my favorite selection of banchan. They serve well fermented kimchi, seasoned fish cake, steamed egg, bean sprouts, and choi sum. simply amazing! Each is seasoned to perfection and goes so well with rice. Bossam: with my favorite bossam place now closed, I'd say that frog house is now my favorite. Sizeable pieces of boiled pork with a hefty serving of oysters--it can't get better than that. I also love that they season their napa cabbage and give a side of spicy radish kimchi to tie the meal together. Octopus and Beef Pot Stew: if you ever have a party of 5-6 people, you can definitely share one of these bad boys. They're so good and filling and you can all eat together like one big family. The broth was a bit on the sweeter side for me but that was overshadowed but the hefty serving of octopus, beef, and perilla leaves. So filling and great now that the weather is getting colder. Whelk Salad: sad that they removed it off the HH menu, but still worth the purchase. It these crunchy, chewy sea snails mixed in with onions and other veggies into a salad. Love the tangy, sweet and spicy sauce that's mixed in!

If you're craving a culinary time machine back to the 1980s, Frog House Restaurant is your go-to spot. This hidden gem has been in business for over 30 years, and its hole-in-the-wall charm is part of the magic. The authentic Korean food here is all homemade, evoking flavors that will make you nostalgic for the Korea of yesteryear. Every stew and dish we ordered was better than anything I've had, even in LA's K-town. Don't let its modest appearance fool you--Frog House is a treasure trove of authentic, nostalgic Korean delights that have stood the test of time.

Taste wise the meat jun with the sauce was not sweet. But I enjoyed it regardless. The quantity was great! Along with the unlimited banchan I was a happy camper that got to take extras home. Service: Great! I called 2 hours beforehand on a Friday for a reservation for a party of 8 + a baby stroller and they accommodated us wonderfully. They also allowed us to split the check at the register by items. They gave e water as needed as well. Atmosphere/Ambiance: Casual. I really enjoy the Korean comfort foods! 4 stars for the food, soups, and ban chan, 5 stars if the service was great. Typical service you will get at a Korean spot but no complaints. Just gotta be patient for ban chan refills or if you need anything else, I don't expect much just happy that I get to have my Korean food. During this recent Saturday visit, I decided to go here for our late lunch, after hiking Koko Head Trail & Makapuu. It was about 4:30 pm, we were the only ones there, but it filled up pretty quick an and they do have many take out and Uber/Door Dash orders. My favorites here are the combo set, choice of soondubu (combination, kim chee, spam, beef, sausage, clam,) & either meat jun, fried mandoo, bulgogi, yellow corvina, seafood jun, or BBQ chicken. The combo use to be $20.55 my first time but now went up to $23.55, hence the increase, it is still a great deal, this meal comes with rice and 5 different ban chan. This combo was more than enough for the both of us. My favorite is the spam soondubu ( yes. who picks Spam right?! hehe) & the seafood Jun. Although it so hard to decide since all the choices are good, I will have to visit again for the other selection. The other half and I cannot eat an entire combo set by ourselves. I love the ban chan, especially the daikon & kim chee, so fresh and crispy! When I first dined here, I was surprise to see they give you a fresh egg to crack in your soondubu soup, I am use to the egg already in there. We always have leftover soondu soup which I take home and add to my Korean ramen the next day, so good! Support this local mom & pop restaurant, So Gong Dong has been around for the longest time just only recently I've discovered it. I will be back for the next Korean soondubu, ban chan fix!

The premium AYCE option is around $60 per person, which would be reasonable if the quality matched the price. Unfortunately, it doesn't. We're from the Bay Area and have been to countless Korean BBQ restaurants with significantly better meat quality for the same price or less. To make matters worse, even at the highest-priced AYCE tier, fountain drinks aren't included. What really left a bad impression was the automatic 20% gratuity. Our group consisted of two separate parties of three people each. We were seated together at one large table with two grills, but we had separate bills, ordered different AYCE meats option, didn't share food, and made that CLEAR before ordering. The menu states that automatic gratuity applies to parties of five or more, yet we were still charged because we happened to sit together. Had we known this was their policy, we would have chosen another restaurant or sat at different areas of the restaurant. The reason I'm giving two stars instead of one is because our servers were friendly, patient, and knowledgeable. They answered all of our questions about the menu and provided excellent service throughout the meal. Unfortunately, when we brought the gratuity issue to the manager, he insisted we were one large party despite us being separate parties with separate orders and separate checks. At the end of the day, the only difference was that we happened to be sitting at the same table. Overall, the service from the staff was great, but the overpriced food, disappointing meat quality, and questionable gratuity policy make it hard for me to recommend this place.
