Food was fantastic and service was friendly. Sat outside on a beautiful sunny day. The place was packed so get ready to wait. The wait was really fast tho. Food was delicious and hot. I ordered the corned beef hash and eggs. They give big portions and the corned beef is fresh and cooked to perfection. I enjoy a little crisp on the beef. My partner ordered the huevos rancheros. He devoured the whole dish and enjoyed every flavor. We love to bring our dog with us on our many adventures and this place is very dog friendly. They have a doggie menu and ordered scrambled eggs. Our dog loved them. They give big portions so we were able to take some home. Great place. I'd come back again
Best pancakes I've ever had! We stopped in Carmel during a recent Highway 1 trip and stumbled upon this gem while looking for a brunch spot. My husband and I shared the Triple D Sampler and banana walnut pancakes, along with a latte. Everything was delicious, and there was so much food! The chili was especially flavorful, with tender brisket, and the pancakes were incredible. We sat outside and enjoyed the beautiful weather. There was a short wait, but my kids had fun browsing the shop while we waited, and they even found a few reasonably priced activity items for the road. Great food, friendly atmosphere, and definitely a must-visit when in the area!
We had an incredible experience at this pet friendly restaurant! Not only that, but our Frenchie whose name is Bubbles got to meet a server also nicknamed Bubbles. Picture attached. We had the corn beef and hash. It had amazing flavor with huge chunks of corn beef. It was absolutely delicious. We also had a bowl of their chili brisket. Fantastic flavor, and lots of chunky brisket. I did have them heat it up prior to being delivery. I like all my liquid meals, extra hot. Just a personal preference. It was still delivered lukewarm. If there was one thing I would say, because this place was incredible from the servers to the food and to the fact that they allow pets. It would be to the young lady that cleaned and straightened tables and her RBF. You're working at an incredible restaurant, with incredible food, in an incredible town. SMILE!! Enjoy your surroundings and all the people around you. Life is short and a smile won't hurt you. AND it will bring smiles to all of the people around you. You're beautiful.
We visited because this restaurant was on Diner's Drive ins and Dives, so we had to get the Triple D plate! The portions are huge and so delicious. There's a variety of sides for each dish too. My favorite was the fried grits ; it might be my favorite breakfast side ever! The bowl of chili on the triple D plate was also massive. We also had the French toast which was a nice balance of sweetness with all the savory foods. There was 45 min wait when we got there on a Sunday afternoon, but we just walked around the plaza and got a coffee while we waited. Theres tons of outdoor seating, and very dog friendly. Would definitely return!

We stuffed ourselves here but loved every bit of it. My husband ordered biscuits and gravy, with eggs and potatoes and a side of chili! I ordered eggs, potatoes and potatoes and we shared the churros/ cinnamon pancake! We still talk about that pancake- it was just right on the cinnamon and sugar. Service was super friendly and attentive. We did arrive right when they opened, good thing because quickly this place had a wait list! Plan accordingly and enjoy your service and meal!
Woah! This was seriously one of the best breakfasts I've had in a while! The portions are HUGE, so definitely come hungry! I don't usually love chili, but theirs was SO good and honestly a must-try! The location is pretty tight, which I wasn't the biggest fan of, but the service was quick and the staff were super friendly!
Very big portion. Good brunch spot and very popular on a weekend. Tasty but would be nice if the house potatoes were crispier. Corned beef hash had a good amount of corned beef but a bit dry.
The place felt really welcoming, and I honestly enjoyed the service, the atmosphere and specially the food. I'd definitely recommend trying the huevos rancheros they were one of my favorites.
Really tasty breakfast spot in Carmel that definitely gets busy, so expect a wait during peak times. The food was worth it though, and everything tasted fresh and homemade like the name suggests. Loved the little store attached to the restaurant too. It was fun to browse after eating. The surrounding shopping area is also really nice to walk around and explore. A highlight for my daughter was the Mickey Mouse pancake! Overall a solid stop if you're visiting Carmel and looking for a good breakfast or brunch spot.
Wow, what a delicious and fun breakfast spot! We came in on a Thursday around 11:30 am and were able to be immediately seated. It was quite busy outside, but we found a nice spot in the shade. Once we started to order, a lot of the people started to leave and there was only a couple other parties outside. For once I was hungry AND actually able to order while thinking about portion sizes. Normally my eyes are more hungry than my stomach! I had one banana walnut pancake and still couldn't finish it. My partner ordered the breakfast skillet with chorizo, mushrooms, and avocado. Both were exceptionally delicious, and the skillet especially with their homemade bottled pepper sauce. It's available to purchase but they ran out when we were visiting. The pancake had bananas or walnuts in every bite, if not both. The maple syrup was also heated up so it made for a very pleasant experience. I'm normally a savory breakfast gal, but this called to me, and I'm so glad I went with it. And the skillet wasn't that spicy but packed tons of flavor. I could taste some smoke paprika, garlic powder, and a pleasant amount of salt and pepper. We enjoyed our time here, and since the business was slowing down, we were able to chat with our waiter and get some ideas for local spots to try. 10/10, we will be back again! :) Thank you so much!
On a recent trip to the Bay Area we had a chance to swing by the Monterey Peninsula on the way south and visit with a dear friend. This "young lady" and I have been great pals since 4th grade, and that was quite a while ago. Ahem! She's lived in Carmel since the early 80's and knows so many great places to go. She recommended From Scratch as a good spot to meet for breakfast. On a foggy morning, we parked on the exterior of The Barnyard and took a meandering path to find the restaurant. I had actually dined in that space many, many years ago. I don't even recall what it was called at that time. The From Scratch iteration is wonderful! It's cozy and charming on the inside. I didn't end up taking many pix inside as they were so consistently full of patrons that I didn't want to intrude on people's meals. They also have an outdoor patio area, which is kept warm by heaters, but my friend had scored a table inside near the fireplace, and that turned out to be a perfect place. The menu has all the breakfast favorites, but with their own little creative twists. It was hard to narrow down to a final choice of what to order. Service was excellent throughout, and our server had a just-right sense of humor. The portions are enormous!!! Dear Hubby and I could have easily split one plate and would have gone away completely full. If one is going to order whichever dish you choose, unless you haven't eaten for a week, I would plan that you'll be taking away leftovers. Their homemade sausage patties were superb with a subtle sweet taste that complimented the savory meat. Thick, fluffy French toast was so delicious with real maple syrup to drizzle on top. DH fully enjoyed his biscuits and gravy. I don't know how he ate as much as he did, but I did do most of the driving in the afternoon while he napped off that breakfast! It was so divine to visit with my sweet friend in such a lovely atmosphere while eating delicious food. What a wonderful start to the day! I can see this being a draw for locals and visitors alike.

We enjoyed our visit here at From Scratch in Carmel. It was very very busy but we got seated quickly and the food came fresh & quicker than expected. Our server was super kind and gave great recommendations. We will definitely come back when we go to Carmel and try different meals! read more

Saw this spot on Diners Dives and Drives so we decided to check them out. We ordered their specialties Cinnamon Roll Pancakes and the Triple D special. The pancakes were so good they did not need syrup! The biscuits and gravy were outstanding as well. If you want so delicious comfort food with big servings come check em out. read more
An awesome and relatively affordable spot for breakfast! We only had to wait a few minutes to be seated and there's a little gift shop you can browse while you wait. I ordered the Carmel omelette with potatoes, and my boyfriend got the corned beef and hash. We also ordered a fruit and granola parfait for something sweet. Everything was a great portion and delicious! My omelette was jam packed with cheese, I wish it had a little more avocado. The potatoes were very seasoned, which I thought was great. The toast they provide with breakfast comes with little sides of jam, we had strawberry and apricot and they were great! My boyfriend loved the corned beef and hash but wished they used the same potatoes that you get on the side, as his were a little undercooked. Our parfait was surprisingly big and great to split with lots of yummy fruit. They make the granola in house and you can buy some as well! read more
The location can be a bit hard to find as its tucked away in an shopping area. We went for brunch and it was quite busy. We had to wait 15 minutes so we walked around and shopped a bit. We spent a week on vacation in this area so it's hard to remember the details of every place. It took a while to get a server to take our order. Once he took the order, I think they spawned our food into existence it was so fast. My biscuits and gravy were good. Good portion size. The others liked their food. It was a bit cold on this day and they didn't have a heat lamp by us which put a damper on the experience. Still overall nice. read more

We stopped in on a recommendation from a local. It wasn't until we were there that it was also featured on 'Triple D'. The downstairs outdoor patio is a great place to enjoy the spectacular weather and outdoor space. Servers were all very attentive and made sure that everything met you were satisfaction. Portions very much outweigh the size of our stomachs. With leftovers in are hands, we were extremely satisfied with the price for the amount of food. I had the house made corned beef hash, which was divine. Full of flavor, every bite made you want to keep eating more. read more

Good food and quick service! I heard weekends are longer wait times. We went Friday at 10am. They have the triple D plate but I did not think it was good or worth it. The scratch skillet was totally worth it but too much cheese. Cinnamon roll pancake is a must!!! Sooo goood read more
Yesterday morning we had brunch at From Scratch with two friends and our pups on the lovely patio. Service is very friendly and nice and our breakfasts were delicious. I had Corned Beef Hash and Eggs that came with an amazing cheese biscuit. and yummy potatoes! We also had the Eggs Benedict that my husband loved. The Granola bowl was also delicious! The bacon and scrambled eggs were both cooked perfectly and everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals. Coffee is delicious too! This is a great breakfast spot and we will be back! read more

This is 5 stars all the way! My only problem here (but it may be for the best) is that it's extremely difficult to find all tucked down in the corner of this complex of buildings. If it were more accessible the crowds would be difficult to handle. We didn't know going into it that this was featured on DDD, I found it by searching here for restaurants close to Point Lobos. The day we came (late October) was cold and windy, so walking into the warm, homey dining room and being greeted by the most mom-like waitress ever is exactly what we needed. We ordered the B.L.A.T and the Chicken Caesar Wrap and we ordered the fries. The waitress immediately offered up ranch which we of course we said yes to because how else do you eat fries!? We had NO idea what we were in for... these plates of food were gigantic! And the pile of fries, not just fries... seasoned waffle fries were piled so high it never looked like I made a dent in them. These are fly across the country for them fries. We even took the leftovers w/ us and heated them up in our hotel microwave the next night - they were still delicious! The sandwiches were also delicious - and while the price tag is high for sandwiches, you definitely get your $$'s worth. We watched a whole lot of people around us order breakfast and those dishes too looked incredible. I don't know that Carmel will be on our itinerary again, but if it is, rest assured we will be back. read more
Overall - this place has big portions but be prepared to wait for it. They do not take reservations. Parking: plenty of free parking. You can park in the spots behind the mall too. Location: the description on the website was lengthy. Basically you can access the restaurant from any direction in the mall, and you can park anywhere. I think the easier way is to find Synchronicity Holistic in the parking lot and go toward Allegro. Follow the walkway into the mall. You have to walk down some steps to reach From Scratch. On a Saturday afternoon, it was about 15-20 minutes wait for four people. They text you when the table is ready. You can browse inside their adjacent shop to kill time. Food: I loved the sampler plate $23! The chili was so good. I enjoyed the apricot jam with the cheesy biscuit. The banana walnut pancakes were ok. They were a good size. (If you want real maple syrup, it's an extra charge.) The tuna avocado salad was only ordered because we needed some kind of veggie. We ended up taking home the leftover lettuce. There was so much of it. The coffee latte is served in a glass cup, but it's a hot drink. Service: good. They are friendly. Credit card/Apple Pay accepted. Bathroom: there is only one stall. If you go out to the left of the restaurant, you can find more restrooms upstairs. read more

While we walk at Barnyard in Carmel we found a hidden gem situated on the lower level of the property. We came at a perfect time because we were there on a weekday. The service was amazing! Servers were very attentive and considerate. They also have great customer service. Food was rich and yummy! The order came in fast!!!! Which is great because we were with my toddler. I got the eggs Benedict with Turkey sausage and my mom had the Big Sur omelet. My daughter had fruit cup and yogurt! The ambiance was great but a little dark inside the restaurant but its not a big deal! Servings were huuge we left the place with our tummies full! Homey brunch spot! They have incredibly hefty portions here. We ordered two of the brunch items. Our favorite was the biscuits with sausage + potatoes. The biscuits seemed house made and fresh to order. we also got the omelette -- build your own with a side of biscuits. The fresh avocado on top is a must. Let me start by saying I only gave 4 stars because we sat outside (dog friendly restaurant) with our dog which is great they accommodate pets. But the table location we had was super chilly and my seat was directly in the 'wind tunnel' near the stairs. I was so cold it left an impression on me that was hard to forget though not by any disservice by the restaurant itself. The server did turn a heater on for us which was behind my wife who did not feel cold at all. That being said we ordered Triple D Chili came first and was only luke warm. But very tasty and nice slight heat with big chunks of beef. Asked for crispy potatoes as a side with over easy eggs. Biscuits and sausage with gravy were nice and fluffy and good portion of sausage. Not overly salty but could use a bit more flavor. Potatoes could use a bit more crisp. Overall was enjoyable meal Corned beef hash Was great. Shredded corned beef with a smidgen (IE not too many) of potatoes and topped with green onions. More meat than potatoes!! Fruit bowl side was nice and fresh. Biscuit was a bit dry but did dome with butter and jam. Since we sat outside on the patio and it was cold that morning, the food got cold VERY fast which I think affected the flavors a bit adding to a 4 star review read more

We're local residents, and we've been to From Scratch many times, but this was by far the best service we've ever had. Our server, Sarda D, was exceptional. She was hardworking, meticulous, and paid attention to every detail without ever being intrusive. She anticipated what we needed before we even asked and made the whole dining experience feel smooth and enjoyable. You can tell she truly takes pride in her work. I told her at the table that she was the best server we've ever had and we meant it. Experiences like this are exactly why we keep coming back. read more

Gerald our server was super kind and very friendly! He definitely earned a good tip. He was patient as my family looked over the whole menu, we hadn't been there before and there were so many good options that it took a while. The food was really tasty and they have Pepper Plant hot sauce from Gilroy which was super good on eggs along with Tapatio as another option. There was plenty of seats inside and out on a Monday morning around 11. Nice atmosphere and not claustrophobic. All the servers and staff were very attentive and nice. We will be back! read more

Came here early Saturday morning with a group of friends and was seated right away with no wait time. The restaurant provided indoor and outdoor seating. The food was delicious. My friends enjoyed their meals. I had ordered the cinnamon roll pancake and the carmel omelette. The pancake was crispy tasting the cinnamon per bite. Couldn't finish the pancake and saved it for two days, pancake had its texture if you toast it for a few minutes. The omelette was really good paired with the fruit cup. Overall it was a good relaxing sit back vibe at this breakfast spot. Will be back when I'm in Carmel again. read more

This place was a little hard to find for my first time visiting Carmel, but it was a cute little spot. They had indoor and outdoor seating and I did see cute dogs in outdoor seating! They had a little giftshop while you wait to be seated. I was pleasantly surprised by how much avocado came on my omelette. It was not mindblowingly amazing but it was solid and I was stuffed. The sides were okay and didn't really stand out to me, but again, not bad. read more

Cute little restaurant, but very busy for a week day morning. Be ready to wait a few minutes. The service is pretty quick, as we were still ordering and they had already brought drinks out to our table. The cinnamon roll pancake was an absolute must as well as their home style potato. We liked the location and service was actually really quick considering the crowd and the "from scratch" method. However, I ordered a cafe mocha and got a mug of hot chocolate. I don't like food waste so I just asked the server to bring me a shot of espresso to make it more like a mocha. Later I ordered my eggs over medium, and the server repeated our order verbatim so I know he didn't give it to the kitchen wrong. However, they came with super liquid yolks (over easy), definitely not over medium. Again, I told the server but did not want it taken back and remade (although they offered).. because I cannot stand food waste. I'd rather eat the wrong eggs. So they did say they told the kitchen. Overall, portions are very large so it's a very good value for the price. Just don't expect orders to be accurate I guess! read more
gravy was delicious. very flavorful and tasted delicious. the potatoes and the meat inside the gravy were decent, wasn't the biggest fan. the pancake was good but nothing special. the fruits tastes great. service was nice. it was very crowded and busy in the morning. we waited around 20-30 minutes. inside is a bit tight but has lots of seating. overall, gravy is worth coming back for again! read more
Came here on a Monday afternoon in late December 2024 via car. There was plenty of free parking in the plaza. They welcomed dogs and seated us under a heat lamp on the patio. I didn't have to make reservations and there wasn't a wait when I went. Their food was great and so was their service. It was everything you'd expect from a cafe. They even had a dog-friendly menu! I ordered the eggs for my dog. They make it with 2 eggs and my dog loved it. I also ordered the hot cocoa and the Veggie Eggs Benedict with fruit. Everything was yummy and fresh. That hollandaise sauce was perfect! They actually have me the Eggs Benedict with sausage but I wasn't mad about it. I'd highly recommend this place. The staff was friendly and attentive. read more

This place has some of the best brunch I've ever had. The portions are HUGE! The omelette was soft and packed with toppings. I loved the potatoes and ended up getting so full I couldn't even touch the bread. I ordered a side of the sausage links, and they were full of flavor! I loved my experience here and would definitely come back again whenever I'm visiting Carmel. The inside is very homey and feels like a cabin almost. It has a warm and inviting atmosphere. There is also an outdoor patio section if you wanted to enjoy your food outside! The service was awesome. Our server talked to us for a couple minutes about how plans for the day and gave us advice. I love creating conversation and having human interactions with servers, so that was a sweet memory. Highly recommend this place! (expect to wait if you're coming on a weekend though!) read more

Service was very good and our waitress was attentive. We arrived at 9:44 AM (time was circled on our receipt, implying tables only have 1 hour exactly to eat and pay) and about 5 minutes later there were 10-12 people in line. It's worth it to come early. We both ordered biscuits and gravy which were definitely a letdown. The bread was not really a biscuit and the gravy arrived lukewarm at best. Guy Fieri wouldn't be impressed with the biscuits we received and neither were we. What made up for the lackluster biscuits was the cinnamon roll pancake and the house made brisket chili. We would most definitely come back just for these dishes. The restaurant is somewhat hard to find but is in a really cool plaza filled with flowers. read more

Cute spot in Carmel - It's definitely a place to come for breakfast without the kids! We ordered the French toast, biscuits and gravy, and omelette. Drinks we ordered the guava mimosa, mango mimosa, and coffee. Biscuits and gravy were okay (not my absolute favorite) but the potatoes and omelette were fire! Our drinks were also SO good! read more

We chose this place since it was close to Point Lobos State Natural Reserve and we wanted a hearty, affordable, no-frills place after our morning hike. It's a 7 minute drive away, a 5 minute wait during the week for brunch, and it was exactly what we were looking for! We all ordered our choice of breakfast (from hearty, meaty, to vegetarian) and everyone seemed happy with their choices. I'd go back for their chili and their guava mimosa (which was recommended by our server). They give big portions so two of us had to-go boxes. Highly recommend if you're looking for breakfast diner food and nothing fancy. (Go to the shops by Ocean Ave area if you're looking for more upscale dining). read more

First off I am very sorry that that happened to you. Typically SUR is not open at the same time we are. So that we actually share - they use our tables outside at night sometimes. There is a picnic table on the back grassy area that is common…
