Shave ice is Taiwanese style where the ice is already flavored and layered on (no syrup), so not the Hawaiian style (powdered shave ice). The black sesame and green tea were tasty, but i preferred if it were sweeter. The thai tea had the most flavor. One flavor is $6+ but 2 flavors at $10 is a little steep for me. I love this type of shaved ice , the shaved ice is very flakey and the ice itself is flavored (I'm not talking about pouring the syrup over crunchy shaved ice). I love Frostcity partly because of nostalgic reason. This mom and pop shop looks just like those dessert places I went to when I was a kid. It has no fancy decor or design just a few tables. But the major reason is the food! Its menu is very simple. They serve frost, which is shave ice, not local Hawaiian shave ice but Asian style shave ice. It's a lot smoother and softer than the local shave ice. It tastes more like ice cream than ice. That's how soft it is. I ordered Thai ice tea to go (sorry my picture didn't do it justice it started melting already) and it tasted so rich and real I mean it wasn't those syrupy flavors. It feels like they freeze a glass of Thai ice tea and then just shave it. That's how good it is. They also serve a few traditional Chinese desserts: black sesame soup, walnut soup, grass jelly, tofu pudding. These desserts are not easily found even in Chinese restaurants. I tried all of them and they all tasted so authentic and delicious. Come early cos they are sold out quickly it happened to me a couple of times. And tofu pudding is only available during the weekend aww. I saw that they have board games at the shop and the staff said they used to let customers use play these board games and hang out at the store. But of course not anymore because of covid =( This shop is hidden in a small plaza on Beretania. They have a small parking lot outside but it shouldn't be too hard to find parking. So happy its reopened again. More parking and more seating. There are more worker so that is great as well. I have always loved this place. Never had an issue with it. I recently went this past Saturday because the cravings were so real. Service was great and fast and of course everything tasted so good. I traveled from Ewa so its a pretty far drive but, I haven't been down that side in awhile so me and my family went on a little cruise. I was having a great time eating my dessert but right in the middle of that this family came in very rude dad ordered from the guy at the register but started cussing at the poor guy. For god knows what asked him if he was trying to be an assh*** or if he was talking sh*t, I felt so bad for him. I really wish one of the managers or owners came out to say something but no one did. My husband loves loves loves Frostcity. He brings his family from California here every time they visit Oahu. I'm more of a boba and ice cream person, but for what Frostcity is, I have no complaints. I've shared regular sizes of the strawberry-mango, black sesame-haupia, and haupia-chocolate shaved snow flavor. I've listed the flavors in order of preference. The black sesame flavor was a lot stronger than Black Sheep Cream's black sesame ice cream. Not sure how it compares to Hana Tea's black sesame drink. I tend to gravitate towards tart fruit flavors when ordering any shaved snow/shave ice/slushy. All shaved snow flavors come with in-house mochi, fruit jelly, popping boba, and fresh fruit. I love that Frostcity accommodated to my diabetic father-in-law by serving him a unsweetened version of their walnut soup which tasted like a nutty version of oatmeal with a natural touch of sweetness. I actually felt jealous for him after sampling the "soup" as I think it doesn't fall behind the shaved snow! A drinking water dispenser and paper cups are provided to help wash down those sweets. Another plus is that this spot doesn't get too busy, at least the few times I've visited evenings after dinner. Some of the other shave ice and shaved snow places in town get super packed. Frostcity is like a local's hidden gem. If you're not familiar driving around the UH area, driving along King Street from Ewa side may be tricky.
