Came here for super late night chuanr (skewer) ... It was just ok. I think I prefer chef yang's much much more. The spice here is not enough for me and the veggies are not cooked the right way! The chuanr I am used to, the jiucai a-cai or whatever veggies should be cooked in the same way the lamb skewers are. Here, they put the red spicy soybean sauce (the kind they used in Korean restaurant for bibimbap?!?) so I was very disappointed Wide selection of food and The price does add up pretty quickly!!! Came here late at night; it was different from the rest of the restaurants in the same plaza. Their meat definitely tastes good, but I think it's on the saltier side. Also a dollar a wing? Sort of expensive. I loved their fish though! Super yummy. Since it's slowly bbq, the food takes awhile to come out. Ordered the rice fake seafood soup, pretty bland. Probably one of the best late night spots to get food. We usually order beef sticks, and rice. These are one of these joints where you order and eat. Tables began to leave and other parties were arriving and waiting. After roughly HALF restaurants left, they decided to sit people. At this time, the wait has already been 40 minutes and there we more people standing than sitting. I love FT BBQ and I've been here at least 20 times since it opened approximately 5 years ago. It's great seeing how this place evolved. For example, they went from a few bottled beers to multiple taps (Including an IPA), accept credit cards instead of cash only, and now utilize a dry erase marker menu. The service is good and because it's a relatively small restaurant, it's easy to flag a waiter. I especially like how late FT BBQ stays open and is a great alternative to Pho, Denny's, Jack-in-the Box and other late night places to eat. The food is where it's at and I love being able to order 5-6 skewers for a normal meal or 8-9 skewers with rice if I really want to pig out. Either way the price I pay is always fair for what I ordered. I like the mix of spices used on the skewers and the food has never been dry or over cooked. I particularly like the chicken gizzards, lamb, and A Vegetable. The soups here are also good. Overall, stop here if you want a cold beer, good food and a fun atmosphere! read more

As I have noticed all previous reviews were very inconsistent, I waited after myself coming out here several times to write a review. At this moment, I am confident to say that the place is one of my favorite places in Bay Area to get traditional Chinese skewers. First of all, the food collection is decent, from common beef, lamb, chicken wings, to exotic ones such as cow tendon, lamb kidney, chicken stomach, chicken hearts, which were rare to find in other places. Lots of vegetables are offered as well, such as chives, eggplant, garlic, mushrooms. Additionally, white bread (mantou in Chinese), very popular in China, is also offered here. I cannot say the collection is the widest around this area, but definitely satisfies most of the customers who know what traditional street-side skewers look like. Second, the food flavor is mostly good. The signature beef and lamb skewers are well-marinated and seasoned. You have additional salty, cumins and pepper powders on the table to use if you think the flavor is not strong enough. Besides, the chicken wings are also a hit, as pointed out by lots of other yelpers. Veggie-wise, my favorite ones are sweet potatoes, chives and garlic. The white bread here is cooked with sugar while back in China I also got bread with spicy sauce. The sweet ones were not as good as spicy ones but a different experiences. There are ones that i dont like, for example, eggplant. The eggplant is super oily and I just felt like drinking oil. Overall, I am ultimately satisfied with the taste. There are indeed downsides of this place: 1, Price. It can sometimes easily add up, especially with a large group of people. Therefore, I would not suggest this place as a regular cheap-eats, rather a nice friend-gathering place once in a while. And just do some math before you order your food. 2, Service. I think for most of my visits, the service was good. The waiters were prompt and food were served at a reasonable speed. And sometimes, the service can be sloppy, especially when the restaurant is very crowded. Getting a glass of water can be a problem. However, I personally do not mind too much, as I am so used to bad services for this kind of food back in China, since they were mostly served on the street sides. Therefore, I would say if you are looking for some authentic Chinese street-side skewers, come here and check it out. Overall the food was okay. Ordering is like how you would order in an ayce sushi place. You are given a menu and a marker to mark what you want. I tried the beef skewers, quail egg skewer, mushroom skewer, and seafood pancake. Beef skewers are very flavorful. It's not very spicy, but it has a very strong spiced taste. I forgot the name of the spice they season it with. Mushrooms are drizzled with sriracha. Quail eggs were over cooked. Seafood pancake was really good. Super crispy and it came with pickled cucumbers, but it was lacking a dipping sauce. There are sauces on the table, but a sauce made for the pancakes would have been better. The service is what you typically get from the area it's located in. When you ask one person for something two more people have to respond in another language before you get it or an answer. After ordering, my bf wanted more cucumbers, so he asked the server for more and he said okay. Then like 5 seconds later he came back with a menu and told us we need to order it through the menu next time. I don't know how we could've ordered more through the menu when he took our menu from us in the first place. TL, DR. Service was bad, food was ok but not okay enough at those prices and portions to come back. Gave this place a shot because I wanted Top Cafe but didnt have cash. I walked away full, but could have gotten better food, faster service at better prices somewhere else. When I sat down the waiter handed us a menu and walked away without saying a word. I don't need your whole life story or even a hey how ya doin, but a "what would you like to drink?" isn't too much of a stretch. Marked off a few things on the menu, one of which was on the bottom right of the menu. Hand it to the waiter and I notice that his thumb had accidentally wiped off the dry erase. Asked him for a water. He goes and puts in our order and then proceeds to bus some other tables. As he walks by I ask again for water for me and tea for my friend. He says ok. A few minutes later most of our food arrived brought via the other waiter. Asked him for water and tea. He brings us tea. Now Im watching one of the tvs so I time things by commercials. 3 commercials and a news segment go by and still no water. I turn around to see 1 waiter sitting and eating with someone else and the other guy was outside having a cigarette right by the door. I get the guy havin the cigarettes attention as soon as he comes back in and ask for water. He nods his head. I eat some braised pork belly which is the only item I had worth talking about. He brings me a menu. I say water. 2 commercials later I get a water. We received some extremely unusual dishes that are in no way authentic representations of Chinese cuisine. For example, we ordered a fried potato pancake that was absolutely drenched in pure sugar, it was basically inedible. Even their grilled buns are, for some reason, also covered in sugar. This is a Beer match place. Food was good but I do not know if we were illiterate or if it was the language barrier but there was only one flavor for the BBQ which was spicy. $1 chicken hearts and $2 lamb kabobs?!! Holy moly I hit the jack pot! After trying Gaku Yakitori and blowing my eyeballs out of my sockets, I have to say FT BBQ is a big money saver for those who like yakitori (meat on a skewer). Although they are not japanese owned, this little chinese spot is a nice new hidden gem. The variety of meats you can eat on a stick are delicious and super inexpensive! I loved the chicken hearts, lamb, gizzards, and combination chow mein. Between 4 girls including myself, we had 12-15 skewers all together plus 2 beers, corn, and chow mein for under $50! This is the worst chinese BBQ place I've ever been to. I came in with my family at around 9pm on a Saturday night. We sat down, did not give us water at all. We had to ask 3 times and water finally came after 20 minutes(the food came before the water). FYI, it's a pretty small place. There were 2 servers on shift at the time. They basically hand you a menu with a whiteboard marker, they don't even need to put in the effort to take your order. Anyways, food did not come all at once. We have to wait for a long time everytime they drop off couple skewers. And they would hold the skewers in their hands to drop them off in your plate instead of holding a tray and hand them to you. We ordered quite a lot of food, nothing much impressed any of us. Beef had a weird taste. Beef tendon is tasteless. Vegetables is the worst of all. The lotus root were so salty, I felt like I ate a spoonful of salt we had to spit it out. Oyster mushrooms were $1.90/skewer with only 3 thin slices of mushroom on the skewer. Enoki mushroom came out cold, you can't taste anything other than cumin and salt. Their chinese chives were not any better, looked like spicy sauce stir fry instead of actually grilling it. It took us 2 hours to finish the meal. With 80% of our time waiting for the food. Service is bad. Food is bad. Price is also bad. I definitely do not recommend this place. FT has become mine and my friends go to place for late night munchies. I want to personally thank the owner/manager (?) dude for putting up with our past drunkenness and continuing to feed us both skewers and alcohol. First off, the skewers are a steal, ranging from $1 -3 a piece. My favorites are gizzards, hearts, lamb, garlic, and potatoes! They also have grilled corn. It's been years since this place first opened, and it remains to be on my very top list whenever I think of Chinese style BBQ/lamb skewers. The proportion of lean and fat meat has always been the same--perfectly balanced. Be sure to also order some of their cold dishes, they work very well with the grilled meat. Those of you who dislike spicy food, can always request the meat grilled without chili powder as well! I would recommend you to call them first if you are coming in with a huge party or getting to-go food as it does take some time to get the grilled skewers ready, but I assure you that the food you get will be well worth it. 5 stars, my friends and I come here at least once every two weeks! read more

I walk in to this restaurant around 1:30am and i was so hungry, the person that's in the cashier just looked at me and just kept doing what he's doing. 15 minutes later he approach me and hand me the menu to order. I only know two chinese barbeque places in south bay area. This one and another one in cuppertino village. If you have a choice, dont go to this one. All their meat tasted stale to me, and nothing was spicy to make-up for it. Just bland, stale, meat on sticks. Their vegetables also tasted a bit not-fresh. In addition, the place is not cheap. Fairly pricey for what you get. Their service is pretty bad. Without going into details, their "hot" tea was colder than their tap water, which was served to us twice even after we complained about it being cold the first time. My service was awful, the waiter was rude, and they ignored me when I asked them for a menu the first time. I had to ask another guy for a menu. The chicken was DRY. The beef wasn't bad and the Taiwanese Sausage one wasn't bad either. Combination Chow Mein: This is a plate of oil and noodles. Which isn't bad but don't be surprised if you broke out after eating it. Cucumbers: A staple in Taiwanese dishes, it had no flavor/barely any vinegar. I grew up in Beijing, China and one of the things that were always around were the street food vendors that sold bbq lamb kabobs. These were my favorite and any time I would visit China, I would get a bunch of them! I was so stoked when I found out about this place, and that they served the same style of food! Flavor wise, it wasn't as good as what I had in China, but I think this is about as good as you can get here in the States! Plus it's probably a lot cleaner than what you would find in the streets in China ;) I tried some of the other kabobs, and they were all pretty tasty. I especially enjoyed the chicken hearts. I'll definitely come back and try more of their other stuff, but I came specifically to have the lamb kabobs, and I'm damn glad I did! They have a huge selection of different kabobs and they all range from about $1.50-$2 which I think is fairly reasonable. They have anything from beef, chicken, and lamb, to chicken feet, chicken gizzards and hearts, and veggies. I've tried a lot of the things on their menu and I must say they were all quite delicious. I paid 15% tip for a takeout order and were rudely asked to leave the store while waiting (when we already settled down for a while and some dine-in guests showed up) For the food, it might be a special case but was a huge disappointment for us.
